The remote is extremely easy to setup and use, even my two year old knows how to use it after seeing it being handled a few times. Community updates to the device database means you'll likely find what you need, even those unpopular [cheap store] brands [...].
I'm glad to combine all the remotes into one. The interface could be improved though.
We have had this remote for many years and now it is stuck on turning off all my devices. Have others experienced this problem. Do I need to replace it or what?
In the last year we always needed to press help in order for it to move from audio to cab/sat. Then it would go along great.
This is probably the best Harmony remote you could buy. It's easy to set up, easy to use, comfortable to hold and batteries last for a long time. The Ultimate One remote may have some really cool bells and whistles, but this one is probably the best bang for your buck Harmony and will do everything except be a telephone for you.
I wasn't confident I would know how to set this up as my remotes included shaw motorolla box, apple box, toshiba sound bar, LG TV and a Kinivo HDMI switch. I'm more of a hit and miss technical person. I will try something and if that doesn't work I will try something else. This harmony 650 was an exception. As long as you know your models (everything says what it is right on it and if you get it wrong the harmony software will try to help you out) and you know what inputs you are using for each device (HDMI1, component, etc) it is incredibly easy. This thing is so user friendly it is unbelievable. Just a tip, set up your satelite pvr as always on so it will still record when you are doing something else. Also easy to set up in the software. As you can tell I love this thing. No more searching for the poorly designed (size wise) apple remote!
I had a mountain of remotes on my table. 6 to be exact. Now I have only one and it does the job beautifully. The only downside is battery life. Only lasted about a month but it is understandble since this remote has an lcd screen. I highly recommend it.
This is my first universal remote and I'm loving it. The web site and setup instructions were easy to use. I've heard people complain about the battery life but after six weeks of daily use I have no complaints. I would highly recommend this remote.
I can't believe it took me so long to buy a remote like this. I always would program other remotes, but this remote was easy to setup and operated all my devices with ease.
We've had our control for a month now and love it. The ability to access all of our media players with the one control is wonderful. This one, as opposed to our previous universal control, has the ability to open and close our DVD player as well as accessing on demand channels and wi-fi streaming.
The downside will be replacing the batteries more frequently due to the lit window and the control's movement sensitivity. It is, however, perfect for our use.
I was getting tired of playing the remote shuffle and some of the easiest tasks took at lease 2 remotes thanks to fact the the Shaw Gateway remote does not have an input selection button.
I figured out how to program it very quickly and even added a few custom buttons. Thanks to the Logitech Harmony 650 Universal Remote I was able to put 6 remotes into a drawer never to be used again!
I liked the 650 so much I bought a Harmony 350 for my bedroom and as a small gift for an upcoming birthday.
Bought it on sale and it has simply been the best universal Remote I've ever used very easy to set up and the ease of use is at a high level
Just purchased this remote and returned within 3 hours. Very glitchy programming responses and massive lag on commands.I come from a long line of multiple harmony remote setups the high and low end models. This is by far the worst I have seen . I am hoping its not a sign of things to come from their data base as the amount of functions were very surface oriented compared with the detail available in older versions. I would avoid this unless you are doing a very simple setup.
This has replaced 5 of my remotes. Whats more amazing that it supports older VCRs and the remote controlled sound bar (I have a philips 60w). Basically anything that has a remote this remote covers. No more pointing at the TV to hope to get the correct code. Its all done through the software. The only time consuming part (and it took me 4 minutes tops) was collecting the devices module numbers to input in the software. On top of that, you can custom the button on front. For example, we use Arris gateway for our digital cable and it has 4 colored buttons at the top this remote has the same colors yet unassigned. All I needed was to edit the button settings and it was just like the remote that came with the Arris Gateway. I recommend this for anyone who wants to have one remote.
Remote is great, as it does what 5 remotes would do. There is a small learning curve to the remote. You will need all the model numbers and makes of the devices you will be adding. If you have apple tv, you will need to set it to sleep after 15 minutes, as apple tv does not power off. Took about 45 minutes of programming and now works like a charm.
Bought this boxing day. The build is not as nice (more bulky and plastic-y) but it works really well. Have my TV, Bell Fibe, Sony Blu-Ray, LG DVD and Patriot media player all hooked up to it. The application to program the remote is really simplified compared to before, and works well. The defaults for the activities aren't the best, but can be easily modified.
The only regret is that I should have purchased this a long time ago, it's outstanding. Managed to do away with 4 other remotes.....
Our first remote was more than 11 years old when it finally quit. I replaced it with the 650 Harmony and it was on sale, I got a great deal. even not on sale it's way cheaper than 11 years go.
When I told my wife I wanted a Harmony remote in 2008, she thought I was crazy, but both of us think it is well worth the money for the daily convenience. The Harmony 650 has replaced our older failing harmony and the transition was very easy. The new setup software is much simpler and faster to use. We have 6 devices on our remote including our TV, PVR, AV Receiver, Apple TV, Xbox 360 and Bose Sound Dock. All work great, setting up activities is simple and saves so much frustration switching between devices. If something does go wrong (a device doesn't turn on), the help button walks you through the process to make it right.
Is supposed to control the volume on my receiver and the on off power. Works randomly and generally stops volume function after a few hours. Really the most important function does not function. Would definitely not recommend this device for simple stereo audio. Not stable at all. If asked I would not recommend this device at all.
I was in search of a replacement for my old Harmony One remote that the screen gave out on it, white lines issue. It was over 4 yrs old and well used. Loved it but sadly no longer available new. Anyways, did my research online and hands on at Best Buy and really found as others have commented on I don't like the new Harmony Ultimate One remote. Most of the buttons removed now and play/stop/rewind buttons moved to the top of the remote so not sure what they were thinking usability wise. Mostly the Ultimate One is now a touch screen remote which I'm not keen on at all. Did my research on this Harmony 650 that still has the button format pretty much identical to the Harmony One, just doesn't have a touch screen. Ok by me! It can replace 8 remotes so works perfect for my TV, PVR (Shaw Gateway), Blu Ray, Amp, Multi-CD player, Apple TV and so on..... Loaded up the new software MyHarmony and was able to pull over all my one Harmony One settings from my old remote. Gotta say love the MyHarmony software over the very dated now Logitech Harmony program. Drag and drop commands to your keys! Nice. Spent like a 1/2 hour tweaking things so buttons do what I want and can say really loving this Remote. The feeling in the Keys I would say are better than my old Harmony One too.....and best of all.....price is like 1/3 of the Harmony Ultimate One! Try it, you'll love it. Thinking I'll buy a second one as a backup......it's just that good and well designed.
I purchased a TV where the remote was defective, so I picked up the Harmony 650 while it was on sale for [$price]. Product arrived in 2 business days, popped the batteries in, plugged in the usb to my computer and set up the remote.
It took 5 minutes to set up and I was off to the races. It's nice to be able to turn the TV on and have it go to a specific channel.
5 star experience all around.
I have had my Logitech Harmony 650 over 2 years now. I find it very easy to setup any audio, video , television myself.
I had 2 old CRT Television plus 1 dvd player which the oem remote stopped working. I bought the other type of universal remotes most of the codes didn't work well at all, or they were just impossible to program.
Yes I do agree that the Logitech Harmony 650 can take a bit to learn, but it is so simple to setup.
I find that my battery lasts over 5 to 6 months n my unit, and I have had no contact issues with mine at all.
I you're looking for an easy to setup and use universal remote, this is the one for you.
I purchased this remote a few years ago and still going strong. Like any "high end" electronics item, the battery won't last forever. On average about 3 months I 'think" they last. When the welcome screen appears that tells me the batteries need replacing. It took some time to understand and figure things out. But eventually it all comes in very handy. No real issues with it at all.
It replaced our old Telus remote which had been replaced several times. I found the instructions to be somewhat confusing until my 8 year old showed me the way. We haven't got the DVD player working yet, but are still trying. I would rate it 3 out of 5 since it partially works.Like anything new it takes some patience to use.
Worse remote I have owned needs reprogramming often and every time the batteries get low it is dead. A real zombie remote. Seems to be alive but eats your brainsht
Bought this about 5 months ago after getting frustrated with the OEM remote that came with my PVR. Didn't even wait for it to go on sale, as I was just excited to get a new remote. I previously purchased a Harmony for an HD box, but I purchased the base nonLED model. I was quite happy with the performance.
This model was great to set up with my PC. That's about where the benefits end.
The single button activation works only when seated in front and centre of all devices, and don't even bother trying to turn on your PVR or cable box if there is any daylight shining into your living room or den. Unless it is overcast outside, every weekend includes having to get up off the couch to stand mere inches away from the box to turn it on with this remote.
If I get the TV on, and not the box, then I have to follow an annoying troubleshooting process to get the remote to turn the box on.
If you happen to bump this remote, or it drops from the couch a few inches to the floor, you may as well cancel whatever plans you had for the rest of the evening, as you will have to walk through a frustrating welcome tutorial to try and get back to a stage where you can actually access one of your devices, but you'll have to recalibrate the All Off/Watch TV buttons before you can do anything.
This was the worst purchase I have made in a long time.
I never write reviews but feel compelled to do so this time. This is the third 650 I buy, only because it is the only reasonably priced universal remote out there. It suffers from recurrent issues [...] Don't buy!
One major problem with these remotes is the battery compartment. Any little bump and it looses it's connection causing it to restart. Even picking it up sometimes does it. Very frustrating. Also, the remote seems quite slow when changing from say TV to Movie or what ever. And the assistant screen is a pain also. It always seems that I have to wait for it in some way or other before I can get it to do what I need.
This is not a one off type issue because I did buy a second one and it is just the same. This would be a great remote if it didn't have those problems.
Bought this when it was on sale. It was a great purchase. Simple to set-up and straight forward to use. My last Harmony remote (Harmony One), never worked my Fibe receiver properly. It didn't matter how many times I tried to program it. This remote, first try.
We love these devices for controlling TV/multi-media setups throughout the house. We purchased our 2nd model 650 (to replace a 670) so we could have the same button layout in both TV rooms -- main and upstairs. No problems setting them up for different equipment configurations, everything just works.
I found the Logitech 650 to be easy to program for my initial devices , albeit limited to 4 devices (TV, DVD, satellite, Surround Sound amp.)
I now have a different TV and DVD player...I am trying to remove the original settings and reprogram the Logitech 650 to control these new devices and remove the old devices from memory...impossible it seems .
I may have to buy another Logitech remote...very frustrating process...and you have to "buy" phone support from Logitech, I suspect it will be cheaper to purchase a new remote unit.
finally the harmony 650 does 8 devices again!!!
Got this on sale at a good price. Setup was quick and easy and it works as stated. Now I can put all my extra remotes away and enjoy the simplicity and non-clutter of one master remote. Great product!
Couldn't be happier. This is my 3rd Logitech remote. I also have the 700 for my Family room setup. Easy to set up and simply connected to my previous settings because the last remote was dropped several times before it stopped working. Quick response when used. Fits in my hand nicely and will go weeks at a time before it needs recharging in my case.
Perfect all in one solution.
I have used a Harmony 900 for a number of years. It uses a rechargeable battery that recently failed. After six months of trying to purchase a new battery from Logitech and from third-parties on the Internet, I purchased a 650 online. It works fine and it was able to configure itself from my previous remote almost automatically. The 650 LCD screen is inferior to that of the 900 - it has very course resolution and fewer colours compared to the 900. Also, the 650 only supports five devices which is not that many. I purchased a second unit for another room. Unfortunately the Logitech configuration program identifies the configurations by number (1 and 2). It is not possible to name the configurations by room or location or purpose. I would purchase another one.
Easy to setup, very customizable. It's our third Harmony remote and we love them. The color is so-so but it was the one in special so...
I got this on sale, and its a awesome...
Ease of use.
Replace all of your actual remotes.
Very easy to program as you must go online to manufacturers website to set up. The remote works with all of our equipment and is convenient to use. The one button watch tv and watch movie is great. Great value for a nice unit. Do not hesitate to purchase this unit if you need a good universal remote.
my first universal remote. online programming is super easy with thousands of devices listed. one button operation for all your setups make this device perfect if you use your tv for several activities; tv, movies, games. so impressed I bought another for thr second tv.
If you have an older remote capable of more than 5 devices, you can set it up as desired, then upgrade to this remote and go beyond the 5 device limit. You just can't add more devices. I have one running all 8 devices that I needed. Good little remote, especially on sale.
I bought this remote to replace an old Harmony 880. It was very easy to setup. Copying my data from one remote to the other worked fine.
At first I was worried that it would not have all the functionality I need because it is much cheaper than the 880 but it worked perfectly for me.
I had been thinking about getting one of these for a long time, but I was concerned that my rather obscure home theater receiver (NAD) wouldn't be supported. But I shouldn't have worried, I typed in the model number and there it was. The basic, net-based setup couldn't have been easier. I also like the more advanced setup options where you can tweak the order the macros run, etc., if you're so inclined.
My only complaint is the form factor. I really don't care for the oval shape, with the larger part on the lower section. It always looks like it's leaning forward on the coffee table. On the other hand, it does seem to fit in my hand well, so I guess you can't have anything.
Also, I really hate the grey colour. I suppose they do this to entice you to purchase their much sexier (but much more expensive) remotes.
Finally, I was pleasantly surprised that it lights up when you pick it up. This was an unexpected feature that I am quickly not imagining living without. Not sure on the battery life, though. Time will tell on that.
Its an amazing remote for the price. It does EVERYTHING. It controls everything in my component receiver, HD cable box, XBOX 360, and Blu-ray player. Never get asked how to use the TV anymore.
had a harmony 510 remote and it finely wore out /
the harmony 650 same idea, works much the same way
hope the 650 lasts as long
and the price was right / paid a lot more for the 510 model
Bought for my tech savvy hubby who I also bought a Harmony One a few years ago. He loves this one as much as his One. I love it too. These are great products. are
