Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

By Matt Paligaru

The 9th installment of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series is coming this fall and takes you to the foggy streets of Industrial Revolution-era London. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate will be a fully open world single player game, but features a brand new core experience. For the first time ever, you’ll get to control a female protagonist and get to switch between two main characters at will. Do you prefer a brawler style or have you always been a fan of stealth? You’ll have to master both to survive and succeed. Here’s what Assassin’s Creed Syndicate brings to the table

Two Ways to Play

Play as sibling team Jacob and Evie Frye as they attempt to reclaim London from the hands of the Templars. Jacob has more of a hand-to-hand close combat brawler, while Evie excels at stealth tactics and is the more intelligent of the two. You can swap in and out between either character as you progress.

A Huge Playing Field

Did you think the open world city map of Paris in Assassin’s Creed Unity was big? London is bigger. 30% bigger in fact. In addition to the main city area itself, Syndicate features 5 other detailed boroughs of 1860s London including all of Westminster. Each borough features their own street gangs and own set of obstacles you’ll need to overcome before uniting the city.

More Manic Action

The combat engine has been improved. Be ready for a faster action and combat experience featuring less lag time and more enemies coming at you on-screen. You’ll have items like brass knuckles and the odd revolver at your disposal. You’ll need to showcase your skills to win over the various street gangs of London in an attempt to unite to defeat the Templars and claim the city as your own.

So Many Ways to Travel

In addition to getting places on your feet, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate features an extensive travel system to get from place to place on the playing field. The rope launcher allows you to traverse high above on the rooftops of London. You can simply launch yourself from building to building or use it as a makeshift zipline. Horse drawn carriages adorn the streets too and you can hijack any one of them to make it your own. Be careful though! Not only are the police on the lookout for carriage thieves, but your enemies can hijack (and attack you in the process) in return.

So slip into your finest Victorian-era duds, do some stretches and get ready for the run. It’s going to be a long trip. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate arrives at Best Buy starting October 23, 2015.
