LED Televisions are Brilliant

When it’s time to upgrade your home theatre system, look no further than an LED TV. These light-emitting diode displays offer up to a 70% slimmer body than LCD televisions without sacrificing high definition picture quality - giving you bigger, more brilliant entertainment from a smaller chassis. At Best Buy, you’ll find a wide selection of energy-friendly LED TVs from brands like Samsung, Sony, LG, Sharp, Panasonic, Toshiba, and more.

Illuminating the Benefits of LED Backlighting

Ordinary LCD TVs use cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) to provide backlighting across the entire screen space, whereas full array LED TVs use smaller, more efficient light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to illuminate necessary parts of the picture while engaging local dimming in others. The benefit of this process is that LED bulbs can render scene changes more quickly, as well as offer both a greater, truer colour range and a more dynamic contrast.

Energy Efficiency Stars

Besides picture brilliance, LEDs shine for being more energy efficient than their LCD counterparts. Light output is the largest factor in considering how much power a TV uses, and so independent bulb dimming saves LED TVs from exerting more energy than they need to, conserving both power consumption and bill payments. LED TVs can use up to 30% less power than comparably-sized LCD TVs.

Resolutions for Clarity

LED TVs are available in an array of resolutions, a term that represents the number of lines of pixels that create the images we see onscreen. A 720p resolution is ideal for smaller TVs diagonally measuring 40” and under; at that size, you'll still enjoy stunning HD images that are crisp, detailed and clear. Full HD 1080p can produce even greater detail than its 720p counterpart; however, you might not be able to see a lot of difference in the two resolutions unless your TV is larger than 42”. Ultra HD, or 4K TV, offers a resolution that is four times that of Full HD, packing in over 8 million pixels to deliver ultimately smoother lines, and stunning detail and clarity for more true-to-life visuals – even when you’re sitting close up.

A More Intelligent and Immersive Experience

Plenty of LED TVs now come equipped with a Smart interface or integrated with 3D technology. Smart TVs link to your home’s wired or wireless network to give you access to online entertainment, apps, games, social media, and so much more without the use of a computer. 3D TVs can display images that appear to be coming right off the screen with the help of passive or active 3D glasses that lend a true cinematic experience by putting you right in the action. Next up – curved TVs will take LED televisions to the next level of dynamic display. By bringing the edges of the screen closer to the viewer, a curved TV provides a more expansive field of view similar to movie screens, and makes everything look beautifully uniform while reducing light reflection.
