Could have been amazing but keyboard sucks

This could have been an amazing Chromebook, but as somebody else has already mentioned, unlike the images shown, the keyboard is a BILINGUAL keyboard with extra keys in odd places and keys with smaller sizes. This does make it VERY difficult and annoying to use. Really, this is fairly useless to me because of the number of typing errors that arise. You will see what I mean if you try it out. I'm pretty flexible with using different keyboards, but this one kills the functionality of it. If you are looking for a bilingual keyboard, are used to typing on one, and can live with the distorted key placement and size, then you will give this a 5. I've used about 8 different Chromebooks in my work and I can say that this is the least functional keyboard out of all of them. My daughter has the 11" version with a standard keyboard and it rocks!

was almost going to return it to the store

Had it for a couple of days and had a lot of trouble setting it up. It did not function like android I love. I updated the chrome book right away but it did not function the way android should. Long story made short...took it back to best buy and got one of the Google guys to look at it. Right away he made it act like android by updating it to the less stable version and it acts like my phone and i'm going to keep it☺ BTW the less stable version seems very stable.

Fast and versatile

Started with a win 10 laptop and quickly exchanged it for this. Much better. The chrome OS takes getting used to as always opens an Internet tab for everything you want to do but it's super fast compared to Windows. Also love the folding touchscreen. The screen is full 1080p HD, just ignore the incorrect bestbuy website info on that. Text is a little fuzzy on the screen but everything else looks good. Ignore the reviews saying because it's glossy it reflects lots. It's just fine. I got a discount on mine as well so for the price I paid was definitely worth it. Cheers!

Love it

This is my first Chromebook after using Windows all my life and I'm so glad I made the switch. The OS is easy to use and now that I store all my stuff in the cloud this is really all I needed. The screen is beautiful and bright. I've always had 17" laptops so was worried about the decrease in size (but needed something smaller now) and I'm very happy with it. It's light and the keyboard is easy to use but not cramped like in the smaller sizes. And love having the Play Store and being able to get Skype and other apps on here. All in all, a great little machine and worth the price.

Perfect Chomebook for travel and work

I purchase a second one of these after buying one for marketing my organization at trade fairs. It is the perfect device with its large local storage, great display quality, and it's multimodal display styles. Plus, you can't beat the battery life. If I didn't need some of the specialty programs that my organization requires, I would not even keep/use a PC. I am absolutely satisfied with this machine.

A very good machine

I purchased this in Dec 2016 and I have used it for promotional purposes at trade shows - showing video, google slides presentations, etc. The fact that android apps can be used on it and that it has 64 gig on-board storage makes it useable even without wifi. My only complaint is that it only has one USB 3 port. A second one would be very handy. Other than that, with a 10+ hr battery, quick updates (unlike PC's) and its versatility for presenting, I wouldn't bother with any other computer. I highly recommend it.

Excellent computer, especially for the price

Loce the 360 degree touch screen, accelerometer, screen rotation, and inclusion of android apps. I can see a large segment of the tablet market moving over to these devices. Weaker points: 16:9 13" screen is a little awkward and unwieldy, especially in tablet mode in portrait. I use it in stand mode or tablet mode like a legal pad of paper on my lap scrolling through news and social media. Processor isn't intel, but performance is just fine for most users. I think the hinge is okay, but that long single hinge could become a weak point as it ages. Kind of annoying that you can accidentally close the app or chrome browser when you adjust eh screen or pass to someone in tablet mode. Hopefully a software update addresses this soon. Strengths: Speakers on the side and bottom are pretty good. The 1080P screen and aluminum build are really nice for a computer at this price point. Power and volume rocker buttons on the side make it work nice as a tablet or laptop. Android apps work great, and bluetooth game pads work with some awesome android apps to make a really fun and immersive experience. ChromeOS is fast, nimble, and probably does everything you need over 95% of the time, especially with Android apps on top. Battery lasts easily 9 hours (rated for 12 hrs); easily gets through the work day.

Very Good Laptop

I have been using the Acer R13 for about three weeks. I'm very satisfied with the overall performance. The OS starts up literally instantly when I turn it on! It's perfect for daily productivity, plus I love the ability to flip the screen around to stand it up in tent mode for watching videos or in tablet mode for music production apps like Caustic from the Google Play store. The speakers are pretty decent for listening to music when I don't feel like turning on my stereo or grabbing headphones. The 1080p display is beautiful and bright. The build quality is good overall. The brushed aluminum body feels excellent. They keyboard is VERY nice to type on. The size and weight are very well balanced. Battery life is fantastic! I can go days without charging it with an average of 2-3 hours of use each day. I have a couple issues with this product. The touch pad is bad. I prefer to tap the touch pad as opposed to actually pressing down to click, but even then there are some dead zones around the outer edges of the touch pad that don't respond well to touch and the pad itself has some play and movement in it even when you're not clicking it. I often find myself fiddling with it and it definitely takes away from the experience of using this otherwise gorgeous machine. If you prefer to actually click the touch pad you may want to think twice about this one. Instead of crisp and clicky it feels spongy. Also, I'm not completely confident in the hinge that allows the machine to rotate 360 degrees. I have attempted to lift the laptop my gripping it at the center of the hinge alone and it bends but does not break, so it seems durable enough, but there is also a fair amount of wobble in the display as a result of this slightly weak hinge. This doesn't bother me much, but I just hope it stands up to many hours of use over the next few years. I must say, again, this is a really solid machine. The many positives definitely outweigh the few (but significant) negatives. It's certainly not in the premium category, but it comes very close in so many ways that overall I really love this laptop.

Great Chromebook

Best convertible Chromebook on the market (not many others out there). Great screen, amazing battery life and nice and snappy on the Android end of things. Scores around 75k on AnTuTu Benchmark. Runs games nicely and awesome tablet/stand mode. Website details are incorrect on Best Buy site though it is a 1920 x 1080 screen.

Great chromebook

Have been using Chromebooks for a couple of years now. I know they're not for everyone, but for 95% of what I do a Chromebook works great. My biggest issue with my old Chromebook was not being able to Skype and not being able to print (we don't have a cloud enabled printer). This R13 is nicely made. Metal construction feels way more solid than my old plastic C720. Hinge is nice and stiff. Screen wobbles a bit if you try to use the touchscreen in laptop mode, but then again I figure most people will be using the trackpad in laptop mode. Screen itself is bright. Full HD works for this sized screen. Big draw for a new Chromebook - this one supports the Android Play Store in addition to the ChromeOS webstore. For now you have to put it in beta mode before the Play Store shows up. But now I can Skype; loaded up the Android printer drivers so I can print and scan to our multifunction printer; play my favorite games. Basically I have the best of both worlds. *** Biggest bonus - the description on BestBuy shows 32 GB storage. The Chromebook I got has 64 GB. The same model number on the Acer Canada website also lists 64 GB, so I think Best Buy's description is wrong. Anyhow plenty of storage for both Chrome and Android to co-exist

Great laptop horrible keyboard

Maybe it's unfair to give an otherwise great laptop a one-star rating because of a subpar keyboard but for a touch typer bilingual keyboards are simply unusable why in the world Best Buy and Acer would combine to think it's a good idea to ship any laptop primarily with a bilingual keyboard is beyond me I returned the item simply because of the keyboard. touch screen was nice it was fast I love the concept of using a Chromebook but at the end of the day if the keyboard doesn't work the laptop is useless and so one star since returning this I've gone into Best Buy's I've gone into competitors and I've noticed that the vast majority of Canadian laptop shipping today are shipping with a bilingual keyboard I can only imagine this is for efficiency on the manufacturing side and I know that the next laptop I buy will be out of the United States directly as a result of this action what is shame

Great Chromebook

I've been using an Acer C720 for the past couple of years and loved it. Bought this because it can run Android Apps (not quite out of the box, have to put it in Beta channel). This fills in the usage gaps for me nicely. My biggest complaint with my old chromebook was no Skype and no direct printing (I don't have a cloud print printer). The R13 fixes those problems easily. Perfect for emailing, browsing, working on Google sheets/docs/slides, watching Netflix and YouTube. Skype seems to work. Printing and scanning from our wireless Samsung printer using an Android printer app. Bonus? This Chromebook actually has 64 GB of storage, not the 32 that is in the product description. Are there things I NEED a PC or Mac for? Yes, but that's only 5% of the time. Rest of the time this works great for me. Only downside? I've forgotten what it is like to carry around a 13" laptop. I'm so used to 10 and 11" devices, this is relatively huge.

Wrong Specs listed

Just a quick note, your specs show a 1366 resolution screen, all R13 models are 1920 x 1080 to my knowledge, Just wanted to note that. Looking forward to buying this!
