Well Worth the Cost

Given that most DVD-RW and DVD-RE external drives are about half the price of this unit, it's a tough pill of [price] to swallow, but I can say it is well worth its dollar value. The unit can run off USB 3.0, a significant advantage over its competition, for this means that the signal quality does not degrade nearly as much as it will from a USB 2.0 which can only read HD discs up to around 720p or 1080i. Moreover, should your disc require extra running power, the unit itself has a cable which can plug into two USB ports for extra power. Be forewarned that, unlike DVD, Blu-Ray is a registered product of Sony and that means that your media viewing software such as Windows Media Player does not support Blu-Ray. If it did, Microsoft would have to pay royalties to Sony and they're unwilling to do as such. Thus you will need an after-market piece of software to run your Blu-Rays which are generally not free.
