Not worth the hassle

I've wasted two hours getting this adapter working on my Windows 10 desktop. Long story short after installing/uninstalling several drivers it now works with the Mediatek drivers, but it's the only one of 8 devices that couldn't connect to my router on channel 165, even though it could see it. After changing the channel it now works, but this thing is just too flakey, and since a reliable/troublefree connection is my number one concern (it's going to my mom's house), I'll be returning it.

Good product

This wifi adapter installed with no problems on my windows 10 desktop. It glows when communicating and is kinda cool in a geeky way. Plug and play.

constant drop of connection

This works fine if all you want to do is Facebook. If you want to stream, game, download, or anything that a computer is made to do this will fail you. Literally can't get through a Youtube video.

Does not work properly on my USB 3.0 ports

This adapter does not work properly with the USB 3.0 PCIE card of my PC. Right from the beginning there is problem when it takes several times before the wireless connection is made. When I load a webpage, there is a long lag. When I test the connection speed, it is horrible (I am on Rogers with maximum speed of 60 Mbps and only gets 2-3 Mbps!!!) Apparently, the adapter does not agree with the USB 3.0 chipset (Etron) of my USB 3.0 card. Thank goodness though, when I plug it into the USB 2.0 ports, I get 50 Mbps (my old TP Link USB adapter only gets about 20-25 Mbps).

No so good reception

For USB wifi I tried both Asus USB-AC55R (AC1300) and Net Gear N600 USB (a little cheaper). Asus looks nicer, comes with a better utility and has slightly faster speeds, BUT the reception is only 1/2 as good as the Net Gear. If you're in the same room as your router, Asus would be a good choice. If you're receiving wifi through a wall, Net Gear is better. I played Diablo III using both on the same computer 2 rooms and one floor above the router. Both had lag. While Net Gear had some occasional lag, Asus had terrible lag and impacted the gaming experience.

Great purchase

Just upgraded to Rogers 100 high speed and got their rocket 2.4/5 ghz gateway modem. I needed a new usb antennae to handle the new speed and I went from 35mbps to 85mbps download speed on the 2.4 channel and my connection speed went from 72 to 144 mbps. My desktop pc only has usb 2 but I may upgrade to usb 3 later on that is why I bought this model as a bit of future proofing. Very happy with this purchase.

Great Hardware Terrible Driver

To Start, the hardware works great, but not until you install different drivers than the one Asus provides. With the provided drivers (v. 5.1.14.0), the 2.4GHz works fine, but the 5GHz barely keeps a connection for more than a minute and constantly disconnects. I spent many hours uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, checking for updates on the Asus website, installing on the USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports, etc. with no success. I'm running off of the RT-AC66U router and checked and confirmed the 5GHz worked fine on that end. Dug deeper and found many people with similar problems, but with the AC56 adapter. One reviewer suggested installing the driver from the chipset manufacturer and for him it worked. With this adapter, it seems to have a chipset manufactured by MediaTek based off of the MT7612U chipset. I installed a MediaTek driver (v. 5.1.20.0) and since then the adapter works perfectly. (Sorry, I not able to provide a link as per Best Buy rules, but a quick search should find the driver). I usually get over 25MB/s on the 5GHz channel with over 50 other networks nearby.
