50-50 deception and satisfied

Due to the price I guess I could not expect to have a full speed laptop...So it's a little slow when navigating and opening windows...The biggest deception is the speakers and sound in general. Had to go back to the technician support for connecting it and now the headphones don't work...

Do not buy this brand! If I could give it zero stars I would! I have never had this much trouble with a computer in my life and I have been using them for over 30 years! The first one, I back 4-5 times because it kept cutting me off the internet! They gave me a new one because I didn't want to wait 2-3 weeks for a new part??? I took it new one home, it wouldn't let me sign in, I took it back, they installed and set everything up. I took it home. It's STILL cutting me off of the internet? Sheeesh! The Geek squad has been amazing though!

Really Slow

Bought this for with my wife. She doesn't have high demands, so I figured it looked like a good deal. Not a great processor, but good RAM and a large hard drive. I wasn't expecting it to handle much multi-tasking, or to be able to handle a a dozen tabs at once, but didn't really need it to. The Geeksquad staff warned me that the laptop wasn't very powerful, but I told her that I knew that. Unfortunately even with these fairly reasonable expectations, this laptop was not able to meet them. I installed a clean version of Windows 10, as the Geeksquad staff told me that there was a fair amount of bloatware, and then started to use it. It was painfully slow. Loading webpages chugged, even with only a single tab loading a single page in Firefox. The page rendered ok, but then the images would take 30-60 seconds to finish loading. Youtube sputtered if I had the resolution at 720p or above. I didn't even bother to see how it behaved with a browser AND Word open, but I can't imagine it would be good. My wife, after seeing me use it for 10 minutes said it was too slow for her, so we returned it. It is a shame as otherwise I really liked the little guy. It was a nice screen with a very decent keyboard and build quality for the price. With the 8GB or RAM, I really thought it was a steal. I used to have a Asus Netbook running Linux that performed better than this, so I would bet this thing would be usable with Linux over Windows 10, but otherwise, too slow.

Not that great

The time I bought the Asus Eeebook I that it was going to be a really good bit it wasn't. The battery was horrible it said it would last 12 hours but now it lasted 2 hours. Over all it is a good laptop but the battery

A little on the slow side

The laptop is a little sluggish when trying to open several programs at once. Would be nice if the hard drive was 10000rpm instead of 5400rpm and ddr4 ram instead of ddr3 ram.

  • from Toronto

At full price, I thought I was getting a steal looking at the specs. Have owned it for approximately 4 months and I would heavily suggest not to buy this. Pros - Typing experience feels smooth, touchpad is good, looks ok aesthetically, fairly portable Cons- Keyboard not backlit, mediocre performance, often lags in chrome, speakers don't work half the time If this laptop was under 250, I would recommend it. Don't be deceived by the advertised specs.

Slow? Followed S's suggestions and now have a wonderful laptop

I bought this a month ago and just after I finished loading my programs it started to freeze on me. I followed the suggestion in the review of S from Surrey, BC (dated Nov 23, 2016) and now it works like a charm. Thanks S from Surrey, BC!! the Unistaller program directly from McAfee website to get all the hidden files. :-)

Do not buy

Do not buy this machine. I've only had had it for 14 days and I will return it today. This machine has had issues from the start. At first it would not update windows and the disk usage and CPU usage was at 100%. After it finally started working again after 5 days it worked fine until today. I just tried to turn it on and it won't even receive a charge or turn on. I am very frustrated and I will return it as soon as possible. Thankfully I'm still in the return window. Be cautious when considering buying this machine.

slower than my grandma

I just bought this computer , i have been using it for a lil over 14 days now it is very very very ........ slow and it keeps getting slower and slower OMG some times the volume for the speakers dont work if there is more than one window open as the same time it freeze up for over 15 minutes, i would have to hold down the power button in order to turn it of and then it takes over 35minutes to turn off i would only check my emails and facebook and this computer can not even handle just that This computer was recommend to me by a best buy worker i will be returning this computer

Pretty Good

My only complaint is that the space bar is very stiff and I find that my sentences run together. I looked for a solution online, but found nothing good. I fixed the issue by running my finger very hard along the space bar ten times or so. This seems to have relaxed the inner workings. and it is better. ...not perfect but better The unit is very cool compared to my older laptop and is light too which is nice.

Don't buy it.

Works like 10 years old, very slow. I'm just wonder, why Best Buy sells this !

  • from South Surrey

Not worth it even on sale

Bought this when on sale to replace an older generation ipad. I was hoping for a faster machine. Unfortunately it was slower and frustrating. Returned it 4 days later for a Lenovo which was on sale for the same regular price of this Asus. Well worth it!

not recommended

I was very disappointed with this computer. I've only had this computer for 8 months and its been a very disappointing. There is issues with the voice conrol, its very low. Programs freezes while watching a movie and and creates a loud noise coming from the computer and when trying to reboot, the ESC button does not work immediately. It also turns off while in use. Lastly, even more strange, smoke was coming from the key pad. Manufactues did not want to fix the computer and blamed me for all these issues. Not impressed with this computer and with my experience, I will never buy an ASUS again.

Poor performance

This is a beautiful laptop and the specs it has should work pretty good but it doesn't. It lags terribly, pages take forever to load. This will be returned for sure.

ASUS Eeebook 14" Laptop - Dark Blue (Intel Quad-Core N3710/1TB HDD/8GB RAM/Windows 10 (64 Bit))

Positives: 1 TB Hard drive space - Lots of hard drive space 8 Gb Ram - lots of memory Negatives: Everything shuts down when you right click on a photo or PDF, I have to open the file in the appropriate software in order to see it. Overall a good product.

Got at a good price but have multiple issues

Got this laptop on sale for my daughter for college. Battery life is terrible (barely 4 hrs and that is on battery save mode) Graphics display is not as good as claimed and she is having issues with volume control when using earbuds. She got it for xmas present and is not what she needs for school. Hoping Best Buys hassle free return is just that...

I installed Mcaffee and then it had to shut down saying "driver power state failure"

  • from Sudbury

Great Product

1TB is more than enough to keep all my documents and more, the lightweight and sleek design gives me the ability to take from location to location with ease!

  • from Ottawa

Solid Laptop

This ASUS Eeebook has a solid feel to it with a decent sized keyboard. The touchpad is very smooth and accurate. The Intel N3710 is adequate for everyday use but is enhanced with 8GB RAM so multitasking is seamless. I like the portability of this 14" laptop as well. The downside is that the smooth Dark Blue cover shows fingerprints and I would still like to see a DVD drive included. A bit on the pricey side, but a great deal on sale.

Uninstall McAfee and you've got yourself a great little laptop

When I first purchased it the computer was ridiculously slow and freezing during simple tasks. Seriously thought about returning it. But then I realized it was all the McAfee programs that we're causing the slow down. Uninstalled them and this little machine has been great since then. Exactly what I was looking for.

Just don't

The computer is unbearably slow right out of the box. The computer I was using this laptop to replace still runs faster and its 7 years old

Buy at your own peril

I bought one of these laptops because I wanted something that could handle Microsoft Office programs and photoshop---the usual fanfare, nothing fancy. It worked fine in that respect (never lagged, etc.), except the first one I bought had a problem with the hard drive that wouldn't allow me rename files. Well, I went back to the store the following day and exchanged it for a new one of the same model. Big mistake. It would completely freeze every one to two days. Had to contact Geek Squad online a number of times to help me out, but nothing seemed to work. They eventually advised me to take it in for repairs, which I did (and they replaced the motherboard in record time, among other things), but the day after I brought it home, BAM, frozen again. It was so aggravating, I wanted to cry. I ended up taking it back again and this time had it exchanged for a different laptop altogether (acer swift 3---so far, it works like a dream; I would highly recommend it). In essence, buy this laptop at your own risk. Maybe I was just one of those unfortunate souls that bought two duds in a row, but I somehow think that's not the case. I do have one other thing to say though, and that is I'm grateful I bought the full Geek Squad protection plan back when I bought the first asus laptop. So worth it. They were always amazing, both online and in store, and they will save you a lot of money in the long run if you end up with a lemon like I did. I would totally recommend buying a plan with them.

Great product!

No complaints whatsoever with this product. It came as advertised. A very reliable unit with a compact and sleek design. Highly recommend. I have read many positive things about Asus over the the past few months - I can echo these sentiments.

Asus Eeebook 14" Laptop - Dark Blue (Intel Quad-Core N3710/1TB HDD/8GB RAM/Windows 10 (64 Bit))

Nice look , feel and price, however this is the slowest computer I have ever owned. A simple cut and paste takes 10 seconds. Updates take forever to download and install. I like Asus but this computer should come with a warning about being very patient while you wait. Sorry Asus this one is a fail!

  • from toronto, ON

Awful!! Freezes and is very, very slow. And I've only had it for less than 24 hours. DO NOT BUY.

  • from Rural NE Saskatchewan

Nice little computer.

Compact,, lightweight, visual is great, overall, good for work and personal. Battery charge lasts a full day+ of work Only detail question is ?*It's all Black, Not DkBlue anywhere.

  • from Scarborough, ON

A little slow

When I first used the laptop it was just slow and was lagging everywhere, idk if brand new laptops are suppose to be like that, but even now it is still a little slow. Also the laptop is glossy so expect a lot of fingerprints when getting this laptop. Overall I definitely would recommend this for a lot of students mostly because it's very leight and easy to travel and I think that it is a resonable price.

  • from Montréal, QC

Useful but lazy

It is useful to go with this laptop. In fact, it is so slow when iit starts some update and we easily lose time ( I use it for work). Windows 10 refuse to open files sometimes depending on the version used (Office). There is complicated to modify files.

  • from Toronto, On

Awesome when on sale.

Great for the price I paid on sale. Needs an ssd installed to make her super snappy which I did day 1. The screen could you use more nits and would be nice If the wireless was 802.11 ac instead of just the bgn. 4/5 stars for these two reasons only.
