I bough this for my 13 year old in Sept 2016 for hes Birthday present, he wanted a better computer for gaming purposes. 5 months later it starts making weird noises after 30-40 min of use, so we turned it off and it wont re-start. Calling Asus to see what their warranty covers and what they plan to do about this. Hopefully its a better experience than dealing with Best Buy scamming guarantees. I will review again once I have dealt with Asus customer service.

Do NOT buy from BestBuy

If you buy any ASUS product from BestBuy and something goes wrong, the computer will need to be sent back directly to ASUS. BestBuy will not provide a shipping box nor will they pay to ship it back for you. Any other computer they will, but ASUS wants you to only deal with them and BestBuy will not help you whatsoever. Please save yourself the hassle and buy something else. I'm very disappointed the BestBuy would sell something but not stand behind their product.

Good machine

Does the job for daily use (emails, browsing, music, streaming videos). MAKE SURE TO UPDATE ALL THE DRIVERS when you first start it up. Most of them are out of date. Thats the reason for all the negative comments below. You can do it yourself if you do the research or you can download Driver Booster by IObit

Very pleased with this desktop

I purchased this Asus desktop 2 weeks ago. I'm very happy with it. It was quick and easy to set up. Everything is working flawlessly (touch wood ...).

Great Buy

It is a cheap computer with a great performance for day to day operations... If you want to browse the web, listen to some mp3 and have a good time this is the pc you need.

Dedicated GPU Is Pretty Much A Must

Got this PC for Xmas, but constantly had issues with "Thread Stuck In Device Driver". Tried and tried but nothing I did would solve the issue. I was finally able to solve this by upgrading the GPU (which was kind of my intention to do eventually anyways). I put a GTX 1050 TI in it and now it runs like a charm, although the card is still kind of bottle-necked on CPU heavy games. Most games I've tried run on some of the highest settings and don't dip below 30fps with max settings, or get 50 - 60 fps on high. I've played Rise of the Tomb Raider, BF4, Resident Evil 7, and Fallout 4 without a hitch. My biggest complaint now is the noise it makes when even under some load, the fan seems pretty loud. I haven't had much experience gaming on PC so I don't know if this is normal, but it seems a bit loud to me anyways. For anyone stuck with this machine and having this particular BSOD issue, I'd recommend picking up a 1050 or 1050 TI. It should solve your issue, and now you'll be able to hold up pretty well for some 1080p gaming on the newest titles. The install is super easy and the power requirements are super low so there's no fooling around with installing an additional PSU. It is kind of unacceptable to have to do this in order to have a machine run properly, but if you aren't able to return it this is probably your best option. For the most part it seems like this issue occurs when trying to play games, so at least this upgrade will make your experience that much better, as the APU doesn't do well with newer games anyways.

Terrible computer

This computer is the worst I have ever had. It started to have problem after 2 weeks(can't return). I have used for a while. It gave me so much headache. At beginning, it constantly restarted automatically. Later, it didn't restart, but after 30 minute or so, it became super slow, I had to restart myself. Finally I got my new computer. I will never buy Asus Again,

Past reviews

Many bad reviews on this unit over the past few months. The problem appears to be that these people are trying to run Windows. The easy solution is to replace Windows with your choice of one of the many distributions of the Linux operating system. Problem solved. Free yourself from Windows for free. Of course, you still had to pay for Windows buried in the price of the unit. My rating is reduced because Windows is present. But a good buy for the price.

So far no problems....Dropped a 250gb ssd in at purchase to run operating system for cheap and so far so good. Fast machine good Ram for bucks. Will be upgrading to seperate graphics card in near future if needed.

Runs hot, blue screen and now in servicing

I am sitting here waiting to hear the verdict from computer techs as to why it suddenly went to blue screen overnight and won't reset, will not allow backup windows drive, no restore point, no image drive. Nothing. Doing some research, I found this model of cpu is known to run hot and a post on reddit says you MUST install a stronger cooling fan because the factory one does not keep up. My cpu temperature on idle while trying to change the bios to boot from my backup stick was 56C. Max temperature is rated at only 71C while my laptop is 105C. Normal idle temperatures should be in the 30s and I doubt it has ever been close to that. Here is a link to the reddit post: I expect to have a lively chat with ASUS once I get the final verdict and bill. Its only been 10 months and the factory warranty says 1 year.

Superb machine. Just reset Windows 10

Not sure what all the dissatisfaction is with this product. I got the model with 12GB of RAM and it works like a charm! However, I reset Windows 10 from the settings right after I booted it up. Maybe that would solve the issues on this machine.

Blue screen of death

  • from Peterborough, ON

Reviews are spot on. Don't buy

I usually research my purchases. Bought this on sale based on specs. I read the reviews when i got home but decided to give it a try anyway. BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH within hours . Wiping the drive and back to the store it goes! Best buy should read these reviews and pull them - something is defective .

  • from Hamilton, ON

Good value once you fix the BSOD

I have three of this unit. It is fairly powerful for a good price. The blue screen of death (thread stuck in device driver) is common problem, and despite this ASUS' tech support is clueless; all they do is give cut-and-paste responses and then eventually stop responding. I was able to fix the BSOD on all three units by manually updating the audio driver.

BIG noise

We got scared and the next day we return the pc

  • from Edmonton

It works good and all but I've had it for a month now and just this morning the pc started to make a really loud squealing sound, not quite sure what it is. The sound went away after I turned it off and back on but did it once again. I turned it off for an hour and back on and so far so good. Hopefully this won't happen again.

  • from Embrun, ON

It's still new.......I'll give it time.

I purchased this computer on a Boxing Day sale to replace my 12 year old outdated machine. The price was worth it for what it came with, comparable with higher models. However, I don't play high demanding games, but I have noticed that the integrated video card lacks in performance. I have experience the "Thread_Stuck_In_Device_Driver" error twice since purchase along with the B S O D. The message on the screen says that the computer is gathering the error info and will restart but it will not restart........I let it go an hour before I had enough. Only way out is to manually press and hold the power button.. It's only occurred while playing the same games, so I assumed it was just that. Reading the other comments, it sounds like it may be associated with the video card. I haven't experienced any temperature problems. I will be adding a video card, upgrading the power supply to a 500W, and upgrading the CPU. This is a good base platform, but I think I should have purchased a better system off the get go, especially because the upgrade price will pass the other models and my warranty will be void when I break the seal on the side panel. Not too impressed, but not the end of the world either considering I'll have this for a handful of years to come. Interested buyers, do your homework first.

Not What it appears at all, very unhappy..CAUTION

Was a good buy on sale but, once I started using this machine I realized it was not a good buy at all. Running Google Chrome, IE Explorer and Skype all at the same time causes the c.p.u to run on average 84 degrees celcius. Fan does not run quiet as it appears to be overworked with all the added apps that are installed along with WIN 10 by the O E M and Microsoft. Playing games was not a thrill either; Thread_Stuck_In_Device_Driver constantly; B S O D. Computer is suppose to gather error info and restart but, will not restart without manual attempts. Had to take the first one back for these reasons, got another one and just after the 30 day return policy for full refund ended it started the same thing even worse. The only way to allow this computer to handle gaming is to shut down all apps that are not needed especially with live tiles and antivirus programs. Way too many apps run in the background causing major instability. Only way to help this machine now is to upgrade power supply from 350 Watt to 550 Watt and a dedicated video card. Pretty sad if you ask me, to have to pay for a computer to only have to add extra hardware to get it to perform properly. Will be contacting Asus again and also; gonna try to return to Bestbuy hopefully for a full refund. Warranty for 1 year but that is no good as if you try to upgrade anything and break the side panel seal the computer is null and void from manufacturer.

  • from Hanmer, ON

Not sure yet?

Bought this..... Red screen of death all the time playing CIV..... which I thought this unit would be capable of handling. Luckily I had a case fan from an old gaming machine, which I added to this PC. So far no more RSoD.

  • from BC, Canada

I bought this PC on the boxing day sale, great specs and expected a good machine. Got my first blue screen on the FIRST USE! Computer Bluescreen of death every day its disgraceful. I am so unhappy with this PC and hope this review saves someone some money. WOW.

  • from Winnipeg

Title says it all. DO NOT BUY. Bought it for the sale price because the specs were promising. Little did i know that its garbage internally.

  • from Hamilton, ON

Don't Buy This!

We have three of these machines. Each one gets the Blue Screen of Death and "Thread Stuck in Device Driver" error. ASUS tech support has been terrible. Their suggestions? Update Windows! Uninstall the program with the error! Avoid these products. I've only rated this with 1 star because zero stars is not allowed.

  • from Victoria, BC

I am also recieving the BSOD error. I uninstalled the display driver and reinstalled, also re-installed BIOS. Not happening as often now, but I'm also making sure to take it easy with my processes. Error: THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER

  • from St. John's

Mixed Reviews so far

Got this for Xmas. I have had some issues, notably "Thread Stuck in Device Driver" which I think I may have been able to solve myself, but would cause your average user some problems. Installed Skyrim and have been getting crashes, and Crysis wouldn't even launch. Maybe not too great for gaming, but other applications have been running very smooth once the Windows updates were taken care of. Planning on upgrading to a better GPU soon, hoping this will make it a bit more suitable for some moderate gaming

  • from St. James

Got it just last week and already giving me BSOD (blue screen of death) when i play Dota or league... Two errors. Bad_System_Config or Thread_Stuck_in_Device_Driver

  • from Oshawa, ON

There's a reason it's on sale.

Picked this up in early December. Unboxed it, booted it up without issue until I actively tried to do anything ( including simply browsing ). Discover Windows 10 is running two processes that drain all available memory. I happen to know how to access and disable them, so I do that. Get everything set up on it and decide "I just bought this, may as well see how it can handle a game or two." Not an hour into it, the PC blue screens with the "Thread Stuck in Device Driver" error. That can't be fixed as both Windows and my drivers are 100% up to date. Not five minutes prior to writing this, I've also received a red screen crash. This is without any form of tinkering with the system itself. It is riddled with issues simply to force you to head back to the 'Geek Squad' so you can throw more of your money at them to 'solve the issue'. Don't bother wasting your coin. It's worthless to use for even mundane tasks without tinkering with it and if you're one to indulge in even mildly-intensive programs, it'll crash. I'm returning this myself in the next few days.

  • from Etobicoke, ON

Really dig it.

No problems to date. Doesn't handle 4k video so well, but everything else works quick. Lots of ram. Ideal for regular use. I've always liked Asus products.
