Fast & Stylish Laptop

I purchased this laptop for my wife as she wanted to do video-editing on the go during our travels. Looked at a few options, but settled on this one and very happy with it. The large-capacity solid state drive means the system boots up really fast and programs run smoothly. The high-end processor, large RAM and dedicated graphics card also make it ideal for intensive programs like editing software. There are laptops with better specs out there, but not many that are as sleek. Sure, there are gaming laptops that can trounce this on specs, but they are generally bulky and cost a lot more.

A solid notebook, good graphics and poor sound

Love the feel of his notebook: the aluminum body gives it a solid and sturdy feel, much like a Macbook, but lighter. I am not afraid of carrying it around without a protective case at work. Not a fan of the "smoky brown" colour however.... The innards are very impressive: fast & responsive, especially with the SSD storage option. As a photographer, I picked this notebook because of the discrete graphics card and QHD display capability; and the combination is very impressive! Also love the touchscreen for multimedia applications; did not think I would use the screen much, but I am becoming a convert. A drawback of running Windows at the highest display resolution available is older applications (such as Windows Live Photo Gallery from 2012) do not adjust correctly and use up only a 1/4 of the screen! Bummer #1. I also needed a notebook with backlighting and good keyboard; however, I was hesitant on this Zenbook because the light is a "surround" solution that lights up the entire keyboard at once, unlike the traditional design of lighting the keys from underneath. Fear not. This solution works very well, and the auto light sensor turns it on and off as needed. The feel and travel of the "chiclet" keys is correct, but I miss dedicated HOME and END keys (which are available via Function key), and I keep hitting the Power key in the upper right-hand corner instead of the DELETE key (which is just to the left). Bummer #2. A note on the excellent touchpad with gestures: it is wide, sensitive and mostly intuitive: I have yet to figure out how to do a Ctrl-Click with just the touchpad. Lastly, the sound is only average, with no extreme bass as promised by the SonicMaster publicity. And the automatic SmartAudio that detects when something is connected in the audio jack is annoying, and will not detect a change when the cover is closed (e.g. use headphones, close cover to go to sleep mode, unplug headphones to move notebook around, when resuming, no sound will come from the speakers until you plug the headphones back in briefly to "inform" SmartAudio that a change has occurred). Bad design! And another BIG negative is the sound of anything playing, whether local, network or on the Internet, whether a music file or video, is regularly interrupted with a strange BZZ hiccup sound, as if the audio decoder is repeating bits of sound every 5 seconds or so... HUGE Bummer #3. In conclusion: A great notebook for desktop and display intensive applications. Deserves a 5-star rating. Not recommended for audiophiles; loses a star as a resutl.

Super light and fast - great product

Very happy with my new ultrabook. I've been using it for about 2 months. It is so light and portable to carry around. I've received several compliments on the design as well (nice colour). Keyboard is comfortable to use. The only drawback is the "power" on/off button is in the same place as "delete" key on many keyboards, so I have inadvertently sent it into sleep mode several times. Takes some getting used to. This machine boots up incredibly quickly and has excellent screen resolution. Worth the extra money for its sleek and portable design and fast processing speed.

So far so good

Pros - Light - Quick Boots speed - Decent Battery life Cons - Screen Glare - this is a very shinny screen, if the what son the screen is not bright you will see your reflection all the time.

poor build quality

Great components, cheap assembly, a very expensive disposable unit.

Buyer Beware

Check the web for issues with the "hinge" on these zenbooks. I obviously got a lemon, have returned it 3 times for repair, First the touchscreeen, then the battery and lastly the hinges broke due to the brittle plastic hinge mount ...hoping nothing else goes wrong as the warranty is now void.

Exactly What I Was Looking For

I was looking for a small light weight laptop and researched a few models before settling on this little gem. It is everything I was hoping for, great display, and powerful enough to stream hi-res video. Also very stylish. It's the perfect laptop for anyone looking for a small laptop for work or play! I would not hesitate to choose this product again or suggest it to any looking. I will say it's only flaw (and it's not the laptop itself) but I wish you could get it with Windows 7, getting use to 10, but I think I do prefer 7.

Asus product good with flaws

I am a big fan of Asus ... when I purchased this laptop I want a computer with quick reprise time to apps and it has lived up to that.however where it seemed to fall down was during website usage .. where it froze quit a bit and seem to be slow. .along with my mouse not very responsive. I cracked open my old laptop which had problems to compare performance across the Internet and the new one just was oddly slow and website timeouts... it was frustrating and I ended up returning my new power house laptop for my old one ..considering the price.
