DISCONTINUED - NO SUPPORT

Bought this on the basis of the price and reputation of the manufacturer in July 2017. When I got home I installed the camera which was easy and went for a drive. I then decided to view the images, only to discover that the viewer software and manual that was supposed to be included on the Micro SD card was not there. When I went to the Blackvue website I discovered that this model was in fact DISCONTINUED. I could not get the correct firmware nor could I correct the time and date on the device. When I did manage to download Blackvue's legacy viewer the Image quality was not great, could not read the licence plate of the vehicle in front until it was very close. - Taking it back. Best Buy you should be telling customers that the product is discontinued and is no longer supported by the manufacturer.

Works in night mode

Video quality awesome Easy to copy using card reader usb which is included in the box Night mode works well enough I wish i could get dual camera in single piece in more expensive version of black vue But due to split cameras i had to select this single camera dashcam Bcz i want to keep the usage as simple as possible

Very good camera

Had in my car for two years and only two issue is the camera doesn't like certain SD cards even if it's formatted correctly. Some times if its too cold or too hot the camera doesn't turn on but when the temps get back to reasonable levels it operates perfectly.

Discontinued product

I just received this as a gift and when I went to the blackvue website I found the model was discontinued. Best Buy should clearly mark this as a discontinued product and reduce the price as well as including a link to the replacement product.

Problematic

I would not recommend this product. I had it for about 3 weeks before the micro sd card started getting jammed inside the slot. However, I was able to get it out eventually. My second problem that arose is that it would constantly and continuously start up and shut down immediately followed by starting up and shutting off immediately. Thirdly, my car had been vandalized and I went back to review the footage and the dash cam had not been recording for the last month even though every time I started my car it said it was recording. And because all of this happened after the 30 day return period I'm stuck with an expensive paperweight. I brought up my problems to Blackvue themselves and they said there's pretty much nothing they can do and won't refund me.

Blackvue

Had problems with the SD card getting stuck right from the start. After about a month it started shutting itself on and off repeatedly at random times. Lastly, I had some damage to my car and went to check the footage. When I looked the camera had not been working or recording anything for the last month even though when I started my vehicle it would say it was. Because its past the 30 day return period it is essentially an expensive paperweight now. I would not recommend.

Good Price Point...

Just recently picked this up last night, installation was easy, dash-cam itself is good quality material, on sale it is worth it! Day time footage is good, night time it looks the best when I compared to other leading brands of same price point. I tested it during heavy rain and my wipers going off, it looked good! It was hard to see license plates at some angles. Quality of the video itself recorded at night is good, sometimes the street lights do "blow out" some of the footage but only at the sources (usually up top). What is disappointing is you can't set the time stamp on the device itself, you have to go online and look for the "BlackVue Time Setting" app, and set the time at your expected use of travel via computer/PC. I didn't check sound quality yet or GPS function *yet*

Pretty good

I bought this one after returning a more expensive dual lens camera that in my opinion was garbage. I bought this one mainly because it has the parking mode feature. Our work truck was constantly having things moved or taken from the box of the truck. After only 2 nights of using it, I caught the guy! Pros: I like the small size of the camera, and it's many customizable features. I have mine set to 720P 30fps with a 32g card (get a 32gig card!). In parking mode I have the sensitivity turned almost all the way down and it seems to record only the things I want to see. In normal mode for daytime driving it seems to capture licence plates pretty good. The software that comes with this camera is very simple and effective to use and doesn't seem outdated. Cons: It's missing a button to lock files that you want to keep. - You really need to be able to get to a computer within a day or two to unload the events you want to keep, otherwise they will be lost. The event recording mode it too sensitive and it doesn't capture long enough prior to an event. About once a day it seems to corrupt 1 file, but it quickly restarts itself and continues to record. I will be buying a 2nd one today for another vehicle

Not Worth The Headache!!!!

I received this as a birthday present as an upgrade to my old dash camera. (For those that care, my old one is a DR400G from like, 2011) At first it worked ok. Camera quality was a bit better than my old one but some features lacked compared to my old camera, but overall it worked and that's what I needed it to do. Fast forward 3 weeks, I noticed it was not turning on anymore. It worked fine when I was going to my destination, but when I came back to it about 2 hours later, the device would no longer turn on at all. It showed no signs of having power connected to the camera, but the same cord would still power on my old camera. After a few attempts to get it working, I went back to bestbuy to see if I could get a warranty replacement. Turns out, these only carry 14 days warranty but the associate and the manager were understanding of my situation and offered me an exchange. Fast forward another 2-3 weeks, and same type of problem happened. This time, it powers up, but would not completely boot and function. It would be stuck on the same led at start up (it has an led ring that lights up, and then changes colours as it boots up) I tried any form of trouble shooting from my end but to no avail. I returned this unit right away, as I didn't want to play around with it anymore. What a headache for what SHOULD have been an "UPGRADE" to my old camera. I would not recommend this camera to anyone!!! (i'm now still using that old camera and its still running strong)

Good quality

Have been using Blackvue for over 4 years now. Owned a Blackvue DR400G-HD for 3 years and the lens started to give up, producing foggy videos. Switched to this model and it works as expected - producing high quality videos. Try to watch its videos on a large screen TV..

Good Upgrade From Previous Dash Cam

I got this with the Power Magic Pro and got it installed professionally. It is a very good lightweight camera, and it is easy to mount and unmount. Some one earlier spoke about the blinking lights when recording....you can customize all those settings, the first thing I did was remove the blinking lights. I don't want people attracted to the fact that I have a camera. I recommend getting a 32 gig micro sd card. I also recommend setting the recording to 30 fps, and change event settings and motion detection to insensitive, otherwise, it ends up recording way too much video. The sound isn't very good, but I think it is because the camera is setup behind my rear view mirror so the sound is muffled a bit...but I got this for video, not for sound. This is a very customizable camera and I am pretty happy with it. There is a GPS attachment available out there too. That will track time, position, and speed.

expected more

I bought this based on the quality I expect from an expensive camera like this. I own a Cyclops as well and I must tell you that this unit isn't any better than the much less expensive Cyclops.

Nice design...but

I bought this dash cam and Thinkware (H50) dash cam for my two cars. This is more expansive than H50. The design is nice and it is of better quality, but the image and video quality is worse than H50. I compared both on my computer after recording day and night driving for each. This one does not seem to be able to record plate numbers at night. H50, although it records at 720p produces clearer image and video from which I can read plate numbers of other cars. Probably this is because it DOES NOT use Sony sensors that higher models of Blackvue use. If you read carefully, the higher models of Blackvue use Sony sensors. I would not recommend this model.

DR-3500 = Too Many Glitches

This camera has too many glitches. First, with Mac there is no way to set the time. Research it on line,it just can't be done with Mac's on this 3500 model. Second, the very bright LED blue and red record lights blink all the time. Even with the camera hidden behind the rear view mirror, they reflect back off your windshield back at you constantly blinking. You can turn these two lights off, but then you have no idea if the unit is recording which isn't practical when using a car camera. Lights should be dim, non distracting and not be blinking constantly. Lastly, the park mode doesn't work unless you hard wire the camera into your cars electrical. Forget it, too many issues with this camera... ended up returning it.

install it!

replaced my Garmin as it was very big on the windsheild and i have a small car...this works great, my bf just installed it with the power magic. comes as advertised! overall image quality is better than Garmin, and the MAC viewer on the PC is much more user friendly compared to the Garmin. didn't even need my BF after the install, ha

great product

easy to install, however unsure if I will ever be able to remove the sticky double sided tape between the camera and the windshield. aside from that, you plug the thing into your lighter to give it juice. it comes with a 16GB mini SD but it supports a 32GB if you want to go get it yourself. the mini SD continuously writes over itself once it's reached the maximum storage which is good so you don't have to take it out ever, until you get in an accident and want to hand over the footage to the police, for example. if you do decide to take the mini SD out, plug into the USB reader-adapter, you'll see that all files are stored in 1 miniute intervals, with options for every 2 or 3 minutes. this cannot be changed for any longer but it's good because it allows you to locate footage easier. When you start up the dash cam for the first time it basically configures itself and then is ready to go. the clarity of the video captured is amazing. it's a goPRO for your car. you can easily turn off the audio from the inside so all of your conversations in the car aren't recorded. at night the dash cam flashes a fairly bright blue and red which I haven't learned how to turn off yet (it's discreet, no one thinks a cop is behind them) but as the driver you will definitely notice it. for the peace of mind this product offers with increasingly erratic drivers all around us, it's a good thing to add to your car. you might even notice YOU start driving in a more behaved manner as well.

Really good quality

It has really good video quailty for dag and night (used it on commercial truck) Cons: No screen so have to fix the mount permanently, 32GB max doesn't store much video may be about 6-8HR max. Overall: its awesome! Can't beat it on sale price

awesome device for the price

this dashcam is awesome, got it on sale and was totally worth the price paid. I feel protected and some peace of mind someone can't scam me during those difficult incidences. Pros: - Sleek-looking (very modern) - Small (great for hiding) - Easy to use (hook it up and you're good to go) - Decent Memory card size (16GB) included - Price - Audio will tell you when its recording, when its powering off and when voice recording is on or off - no GPS, so it won't record your speed and location (its good in those incidences when its your fault) - video quality is very good Cons: - wish it included wifi - recommended mobile app sucks with this model (probably better with higher models) - no GPS, when its not your fault, you want your location tracked
