Not Impressed Blackvue

For what is to be a high end camera and the very high price I did expect more. The camera is very grainy - pixelated for a 1080p full HD at 30fps it sucks. its a bout the same quality as a doorbell viewer. Had this 650s-2ch system for two months, been though all the settings tried them all, did all the updates still sucks. There are entry level cameras that record much better than this. Only records ok quality during cloudy conditions. Only then can you read a license plate. Glare is horrible, worse at night as headlights wash out everything. I really do like the features it try's to offer so I give them two stars. But they forgot about the camera it self in trying to develop their own software. Then they want to charge you for live view on top of that. Add on parking mode battery pack or hardwire kit - more money. You have to connect to the could just so you can adjust setting also sucks. Your able to track other blackvue owners, as it shows everyone on a map. Even if you turn off the public view and mic it shows your location. A cell phone in a holder records better than this. Not impressed Blackvue.

Awesome Dash Cam!

Purchased this two channle dashcam for our van after having a near miss and confrontation with another driver. We mounted both cameras on the inside of the windshield. Mounts are well made and don't fall off in cold/heat. The big one looks out the front and the little camera faces back watching the interior including what the driver is doing, (usefull in the event of a false distracted driving ticket) Video quality is amazing! detail, signs, light controls and plate numbers are clear and crisp night or day. The app works well as one is able to quickly locate and download video directly from the camera to a phone/tablet via wifi. We installed the cameras with the optional battery controller so it can keep rolling even after the vehicle is parked if needed. The best feature we appreciate is that it doesn't have a battery inside it like other dashcams which can cause fire when over heated inside the car during the summer. Sure it's a little bit pricy compared to other options but it's well worth the investment. Over all 5 star dash cam!

had nothing but problems since I got the camera installed

the customer service is no good and you'll find that you are repeating yourself over and over and then they blame it on your phone's wifi when they were clearly told that the unit had to be powered down and back up again before u could connect to it not to mention the restarting while driving. would look for different dash cam

Glitchy with Multiple Service Issues after the first few months.

Product does everything it claims and works well in all lighting conditions. After the first few months of using the BlackVue 2-CH FULL HD DR650GW-2CH the unit said I needed to replace the SD Card. I replaced the SD Card and it was fine for a few months. Then I get the warning, Please insert the SD Card. It was inserted. I had to pop it in and out several times before it would find the SD Card. This problem has persisted. I now have an issue when the units starts up and says "BlackVue for your safe driving... regular recording mode starting." It just keeps repeating this over and over..." Thankfully I'm still under warranty... I will report back on how the service department handles my warranty claim. The website says (1 years Parts warrany... what no labour?)

Great package

Did a lot of research before choosing this setup. I think its the best overall package and after installing and using it, I'm sure I made the right decision. There are cameras with better this or that, but when you look at everything this does, you can't go wrong. I love the parking feature and how I can pick up my iPad from my couch and look through either camera in my truck live. It automatically logs events triggered by motion or impact, and you can set it up to notify you on your phone when an event happens. All of the negative reviews I've seen are from people not downloading their firmware settings onto the camera properly or from not properly connecting the link cable between cameras (you have to be careful or you can damage the tiny pin), or from not taking the time to learn how to use it properly. Once connected, and you learn the app and pc software, its a breeze to use. You can combine the 1min clips for a seamless video clip as long as you want. In my GMC, the lighter port gives it constant power and will cut it out if the battery voltage drops too low so there's no need to purchase the blackvue accessory. The setup draws such a low amount of power, I've never had it shut down once from low truck battery. You can barely notice its there, but its always working away. If theres a problem and something isn't working, it tells you. Just set it and forget it. Thats what I love about this system.

Not worth the money

Good: small cameras, pleased with video quality in night time, very good software Con: bad video quality during the day, blurry, having problems setting the app cloud. For me video quality is very important so I returned it.

Top of the line 2-Ch dash cam

This model is the top of the line, and that's why it is more expensive. Its features are: (1) front and back recording, (2) designed for hard-wiring (permanently mounting), (3) parking mode monitoring and (4) wifi connectivity. If you don't need all of these, they are cheaper alternatives. But if you do, look no further, there are nothing cheaper or better out there. Here are my reasons. For wifi, it has a dedicated on/off button for you to turn it on only when needed. Not all dash cams have this option. The mobile app (connecting to the cam over wifi) supports both iOS and Android. It works well and you could save important videos to your phone anytime, like on the road. The app also provides regular over-the-air firmware updates to the cam. Blackvue is very good is providing firmware updates. For parking mode, make sure you get the Power Magic Mode. It has an on/off button for you to turn off the parking mode when not needed; e.g., when parking at home garage. Power Magic Mode is a must as it also shuts off your dash cam before the battery goes flat. In terms of other features, I like that you could turn off all notification (voice) and sound (beeps) to have the cam running silently. It still has a tiny orange LED that blinks to let me know it is recording properly. It supports 64GB microSD officially, and is reported to work with 128GB. Quality of the videos is excellent, as good as it could be for the front cam. The rear cam video is lower in quality, but still acceptable. The cam has built in GPS, but you could turn it off so the video does not display your speed. Overall, I am very satisfied with this cam. I can't speak for the durability, but I purchased the 4-year extended warranty from Bestbuy, and so I won't have to worry about it.

installers choice

I used to install for future shop, and now run my own shop. Although i don't have a dashcam in my own car, I've installed well over 20 in the past year or so. I can tell you from overall quality and functionality, blackvue seems to be a cut above the other dashcams I've worked with. I noticed there are a few brands using lithium ion batteries...not sure why these things are being sold, it get's HOT inside cars...causing a potential hazard should the battery overhead and explode. Blackvue uses a super capacity, no battery involved to avoid this. if you read the instructions, including the deafault passwords for resetting the wifi ect, it is easy to set up and use. the computer app from what I'm told is very easy to use and usefu - i had a client bring me beer because the footage saved his deductible! anyways, i dont own one, but probably should, they aren't cheap but if you're going to try one - i would suggest taking a hard look at the Blackvue. - your friendly x future shop installer

Returning it tomorrow

First, after running the wire for the cameras, plugged the rear camera in and it did not work. No power, nothing. Front camera yes, back camera no. Then, the phone app issues. First, after creating the account and checking out the video/saving features, the app kept telling me to change the password from the default one. Fair enough but when I tried to sign in with my newly created account in order to do so, it wouldn't accept my email/password to sign in. Instead reffered me to "check my information". (Yes I set up and confirmed the subscription properly) Frustrating enough but then the app crashed later the the first day for no reason. Then when I tried to sign in with my email/ password after reinstalling the app, it kept referring me to "check my information" because it of course didn't recognize my email or password. Back to the confirmation email to try the link again but it said that I was already registered. Tried to create a new account with the same email/password and it went to "network error". Had to create a new account with a different email address in order to get back into the cloud. Then noticed the videos I had saved when setting up the first account had disappeared. Yes the video in the front camera is nice quality but the rest is a waste of time. Plus, not being able to trust whether or not the video evidence will be there when you need it defeats the purpose. Will try to change it in for something that costs less. One star is too many.

Good all around so far

Pros: Installation was very simple even if you are a stickler for detail. Works great at night. Wide angle shots doesn't distorts the image. Very simple app for Andriod (have not used the Apple app, can't comment unless its the exact same). Fairly discrete unless you really look for the camera. Picks up audio surprisingly well. Cons: The wire tabs didn't stick to anything, tried it on the plastic and the fabric parts of my car and I only managed to get 1 to stick out of 5 and even that eventually fell. The wide angle shots though does not distort, it does makes cars being captured in the rear camera seem a bit further then it actually is. Also a little bit on the expensive side. I can't comment about the parking mode, I don't have the Power Magic Pro installed yet. I also can't comment on the PC software, I haven't used it yet. Would have liked to have seen a bigger microSDHC card as it comes with a 16gb card and I hear its finicky with what kind/brand it uses.

app and desktop viewer are the best

have not installed rear camera yet, waiting for a friend to help but I've been using the front for a few days now and it's awesome. I love the app and how it connects to my phone, adjusting everything is easy - and the desktop program has incredible detail and is very intuitive / easy to use. I've tried a few less expensive dashcams, unimpressed with their quality - I've returned 2 different brands (sorry best buy!) - but i'll keep this one :)

just used for evidence!

not one to write reviews, but i just thought I'd let people know that my vehicle was recently involved in a hit and run. Someone smashed my rear bumper - the motion sensor kicked in and recorded the whole thing! detail was good enough to have the police follow up and I paid no deductible!! Got the license plate no problem and you could easily see the driver. get a 2 channel Blackvue system - you never know when you'll need it most. This thing just paid for itself!

not worth it

Bought this camera. for spending [price] after tax, I expected something good, something I can control, something out of this world. The truth is, I am not sure what everyone else see's in this camera but If I could actually control it, it would be a good start. First of all, I could not get any video over 1 minute long no matter what setting I chose. It keeps recording events that i've told it not to, and when I try to manually record the video, it doesn't. It also feels like this camera was designed to incriminate you. -the odd time, it will record your voice, even if you tell it not to. -the camera makes the speed feel at least 1 third faster than what you are actually going (in court, the sheeps will crucify you for that cause they aren't smart enough to look at the actual speed you are going) long story short, I am taking this camera back and I will try to find a REAL one. don't waste your time or money on this one... NEXT....

cadillac of all dashcams!

saw the blackvue reviews on other sites. just bought this after a hit and run with my vehicle, can't wait to have it installed when my car is out of the shop. i saw blackvue has a free cloud service with their wifi dashcams now at best buy. excited to use that feature, relieved to have a high quality dashcam installed. i checked with icbc...had i installed this earlier,it could have saved me my deductible. the video needs to be very clear and GPS helps. hope this review saves someone!

Awesome Quality and Feature Set

Bought this for myself after being rear ended in a parking lot a month or so ago. Right after opening the box you can tell this is a high end quality camera and when i viewed some files the quality on the outside was easily matched by the excellent video quality. I have an android phone and also use a mac which this system is both compatible with to view files. Highly recommend this system for anyone looking for the best!
