Overview

The Canon Rebel T5i is a powerful DSLR that lets you channel your creativity to capture special moments. This 18.0MP camera boasts a DIGIC 5 image processor so that you get exceptional quality in every shot, while the Hybrid CMOS AutoFocus system assures perfect clarity, even in continuous shooting.

More Information

High resolution images and high definition video

  • An 18.0MP CMOS sensor and DIGIC 5 image processor capture stunning digital photos. Crisp, detailed, images you can really work with. Blow up that breathtaking sunset and frame it for your bedroom. Use your favourite photo editing software to remove that hapless tourist with the grossly undersized t-shirt who wandered into your shot -- you've got ample pixels to work with.
  • Full HD recording lets you capture video at up to 1080p, with continuous autofocus tracking of moving subjects to reduce unwanted blurring. The T5i's Hybrid CMOS autofocus responds swiftly when shooting photos and videos in Live View. So you don't lose focus and end up tracking the wrong player on the field because for a second they all look like amorphous blobs.

Fast focus, speedy shutter

  • A 9-point All Cross-type AutoFocus system comes into play when using the Eye-Level SLR viewfinder. Whether you shoot in portrait or landscape, the subject remains in sharp focus. That's important when waiting on those little nuances that make the difference between a good shot and a great one -- like for a posed smile to turn sincere.
  • Shoot at up to 5 frames per second, thanks to an enhanced shutter mechanism and mirror drive. Capture an image in split-second perfection, whether it's in the midst of action or at the height of emotion; the game-winning goal and reaction that follows.

Versatile EF-S 18-55mm IS STM Lens Kit

  • Compact and lightweight, this f/3.5-5.6 lens kit can give you incredible results in a variety of situations. Designed for exceptional colour balance and minimal flare, it features a 7-blade circular aperture, so you can achieve those professional-looking shots with the subject in focus while the background is beautifully soft. A high-speed CPU ensures fast autofocus, while a quiet stepping motor and focus mechanism reduce unwanted noise, which is especially favorable when shooting video.
  • An Optical Image Stabilizer system compensates for unintentional camera movement to reduce blurring. Useful for handheld or tightly zoomed shots, it can greatly increase your chances of getting the perfect photo in frantic shooting situations: sports events, spontaneous pet tricks, Bigfoot sightings -- whatever.

More ways to see what you're shooting

  • The 3-inch Vari-Angle LCD touchscreen lets you intuitively adjust settings, and use two-finger touch gestures to zoom or change images. It features Touch AF, so you can tap the screen to quickly change what's in focus. And because you can adjust the angle of the screen, it's easy to take shots at unusual angles and still see what's in frame. Think: tall people between you and the stage.
  • Preview Creative Filters in real-time as you shoot. Experiment with Grainy Black and White, Soft Focus, Fisheye Effect, Toy Camera Effect, Miniature Effect, Art Bold Effect, and Water Painting Effect.

High performance, even in low light

  • 100 - 12800 ISO range is expandable up to 25600, so you can shoot in a wide range of conditions. And the DIGIC 5 image processor offers remarkable noise-reduction technology, so you can shoot in low-light with minimal graininess. Great, because some of the best photo ops happen after the sun goes down.

Rebel T5i

I bought the T5i for amateur cinematography and videography, having previously used the T3i. It shoots clear video, in a variety of different frame rates and sizes, and takes good pictures (in my limited knowledge and experience). While a bit heavier, it is durable; it fell from my tripod onto the stage I was standing on, then bounced off. Luckily, it was caught by a friend before hitting the floor; it came through the ordeal with barely a scratch. Great product.

Having a few issues...

This is my first DSLR camera so I'm still learning the ropes but for the most part, I'm enjoying it so far. I am having a few issues though and I'm not sure if it's my inexperience, a problem with the card or a problem with the camera. First, it seems to me that one out of every 10 or so pictures I take is just a black screen when I look at it on the screen. Second, when I'm taking a lot of pictures, eventually the red access lamp will light up solid and I can't take any more pictures. The light stays on even after I turn the camera off. I have to pull the battery to stop it. Third, when I attach the telephoto lens that came with the package I purchased, I try to focus on something using live view shooting and if I take too long, the camera makes a clicking sound like its taking a picture and the screen goes black. I need to press the live view shooting button twice so the image reappears. It seems Best Buy does not have an area to ask questions so if anyone can shed some light on any of these issues I would certainly like some feed back. I shouldn't have to pay for Geek Squad plan just to get answers.

Failed within 5 minutes of use

I unboxed the camera today and got through 2 setup screens on the LCD when it stopped working. I called Canon Canada support and they walked me through troubleshooting... the result was that the camera was defective... I am returning it today and replacing it with the same unit... and getting the in-store insurance... I feel like a bit of a sucker doing that though... On other elements, I was surprised how light and 'cheap' the camera felt I my hands... light plastic... I purchased this as part of a kit (bag, battery, extra lens) and am very happy with the bag quality.

CanonRebel T5i

I really like the 18mp! My previous camera had only 12. I like that the auto focus always works. I think I wore it out on my first one. ;) My one complaint is that it doesn't have the A-dep setting that the other camera had. Of course, it may have it and I just haven't found it yet. I am still negotiating my way around in unfamiliar territory.

I'm impressed...

I recently purchased my first Canon DSLR online which was ordered and shipped on 29 December - arriving on the 31st. That's pretty darn good considering I live in a rural area. The picture quality (tone, colour, sharpness) using the 18-55mm lens whether in auto/manual focus modes are impressive to say the least. Hands down the best pictures I've ever taken. I'm sure cameras that are 2x, 3x times the price might have more features but for the life of me I can't imagine what they would be. The "touch" flip screen is a must and puts the T5i in a league above the T5. Changing settings is super quick. There are 10 menu lists with logically sorted sub-lists under them and one that you can customize with setting that you use most often - nice. With everything from the "mirror lockup" to creative in-camera filters; I find that I keep the fairly easy to use manual close at hand as I learn what the camera can do. I like the design of the figure grip and thumb rest which places the camera comfortably and securely in my hand with very little effort to hold it. I'm thinking the camera would probably stay in my hand even while falling down a flight of stairs. I think Canon did a great job with the layout of buttons and dials. Things just seem to be where you'd expect to find them on the camera from the ISO to the delete button. It took almost no time to remember where the 20 or so buttons/dials were located on the camera with out really having to look for them. In automatic mode, this camera is as easy to use as a "point & shoot" with amazing quality pictures. I've tried to keep the camera in manual mode which makes it somewhat more tricky being newer to SLR photography. Thankfully I'm not paying to develop film and my 32g card can hold over 4000 pictures. I've taken almost 500 pictures in 16 days. If I knew someone looking at getting a DSLR, I would without hesitation, tell them to look at the Canon T5i. Dollar for dollar, I don't think you can beat it with even with slightly more expensive cameras. As I said in my review title - I'm impressed.

Simply the Best !!

My experience with the Canon EOS Rebel cameras started about 5+ years ago with the Rebel XSi. This was a transition from a small point 'n shoot camera to my first DSLR. I just recently moved from a Rebel T2i to a Rebel T5i, the best Rebel yet, which was 'on sale' at Best Buy. It has all the features and refinements you will need to satisfy your DSLR picture or video shooting needs. Very easy to use, and simply the best EOS Rebel yet !

Meh.

I've had Canon in the past and it feels a little cheaper each time there's a new release. Their direct competitor however feels the opposite. I had have this camera for work and it was bought for me otherwise I'd have paid the extra money for a more feature rich product.

It is Good for beginners

Low price and low weight are two advanced points in this camera, and it is very friendly for a beginner. BTW, the new T6i could bring more fun I guess.

Feature rich DSLR

Takes great photos. Can do sports shots with its decent high speed frame rate. Articulared touch screen is easy to use and very useful. Controls are well laid out. Lots of customization capabilities. Best digital Rebel yet.

Canon EOS T5i

At first look it seemed way to complicated because it has so many great features. After using it for a while, it didn't take long to figure out when and where to use each feature. I'm especially blown away by the image quality and colour reproduction.
