Nothing comes close for the price!

This camera can take large group pictures at 7'. Most camera's you have to back up 20' to get everyone in. The old Canon Power Shot SD 600 you have to stand back about 9' to get everyone in. The zoom on this camera which is the same for any others Point and Shoot camera is less than half of the old Canon SD 600. Overall a fantastic camera especially for the money!

Good Basic Point & Shoot

I wanted a small camera to back up my slightly larger (and more expensive) Canon Powershot SX700HS. I was disappointed to find it has no "sport" mode or way to set a fast shutter speed. It also lacks the "Vivid" colour setting. I find "Super Vivid" too rich but I almost always use "Vivid" on my other Canon cameras. Finally, the ISO only goes to 1600 which limits your ability to shoot in dim light. Having said that, it takes good quality pictures in the short amount of time I've had it and it certainly fits easily into your pocket. My SX700HS has a 30x optical and both shutter and aperature priority so I will continue to use it most of the time but I wanted something to take on basic outings and on long trips in case I have a problem with the larger camera.

Don't buy from 'Best Buy'

The camera package is sold without a memory card and no cord to connect the camera to a computer. I can understand the lack of the memory card as they have a tremendous variation in capacity and cost but no cord to connect to a computer. The staff at BB don't mention this and when I tried to buy the Canon specified cord, they just shrugged and said they don't carry it. Thus you have to buy another piece of electronic equipment to read your card, after you remove it from the camera. Note that Canon has decided to use special end, different from all other cameras that our family have.

Faulty focus and weight 50% more than advertised

I bough this camera for the combination of price, quality, brand recognition, and mainly, the weight. Something to carry in my pocket. The camera's description says "126 grams with battery." In reality it is 187 grams, which is about a 50% addition. In my language we say "it is easier to catch a liar than a three-legged dog". This was a typical case of that. On the first time and all subsequent times except one, that I used this camera, the picture went out of focus progressively worse every time I turned on the camera. I had one good picture, then two passable one, and the fourth one was visibly out of focus, the fifth one was grossly out of focus, for no good reason. I had to shut down the camera (turn it off), turn it on, and the sequence repeated (one good shot, two passable one, then two horrible ones.) Today I'm returning this camera. The store sold it to me as "brand new", and the seal on the box was intact. But the camera's numbered shots started at "IMG8113". Is that the serial numbers where the camera starts its naming the pictures in series? I don't know. Now I can't trust Canon and I can't trust the store. Canon is a brand name that ought not to have this fault in its cameras; and a store where I bought it ought not to have sold a returned faulty camera as brand new. Unfortunately I live in a small town with only this store, so I need to wait with my next camera purchase when I travel to Toronto again, which is in October.
