CTK3200 as a midi controller

I got this as a MIDI controller with 5 octaves that could be easily moved around. For years, I had been thinking it would be nice to have a MIDI-capable keyboard that you could actually play without connecting to everything; so this unit does actually do double duty. As a standalone keyboard, it has a large number of usable sounds. Not a lot of power, but more than adequate for trying things out, and the touch sensitivity (velocity) works well. No aftertouch, but not expected on a unit at this price. Piano and string dynamics work well. Realize this is a synth-action keyboard and not a piano-weighted one. PS - didn't try any of the learning features yet, and there's a whole LOT of extra stuff crammed in here. As a MIDI controller, it's budget, but again the velocity works well. Just connect it to your computer, and it installs drivers (Windows 8.1 in my case); and my favorite sequencer program recognized it instantly. A modulation wheel beside the pitch bend would have been nice; and it has no "transport control" buttons, but a light, inexpensive 61-key controller at this price is good. PS - it does support a standard foot pedal (not included) for sustain; and unlike many dedicated controllers it DOES require a power brick (included), as you need enough power do drive the speakers. Oh, and in a pinch, it will also emulate the full standard GM sound set (general midi).

Keys are disables in polyphony mode

The keyboard is mechanically OK. I have found a software issue and I notified Casio LTD. It is about how keys react in polyphony mode after Registration keys are selected (1, 2, 3 or 4). All the keyboards from models CTK6200, CTK3200, CTK2200, and WK6600 have this bug in their software. How to reproduce the error: Step 1: Select any keys from Registration (1, 2, 3, or 4) Step 2: Press Start button to play the background songs Step 3: play first 3 white keys (all at the same time) which surround the first group of two black keys – they do not play Steps 4: play first group of 3 black keys (all at the same time) – they do not play Step 5: stop the background songs Step 6: repeat steps: 3 and 4 – the same result.

Amazing quality for the price

I got this keyboard today and I'm really impressed! So many different sounds and features. Max volume is loud, keys feel great. My only issues are: The metronome is way too loud and piercing and I don't think you can adjust it The volume control is not the greatest, the quality is fine but instead of sliding, it clicks into various volume settings I can live with this though. The qualities I was looking for were: touch sensitivity (check) natural sound, different sounds to play with (check) foot pedal compatibility (check) good price (check!!) This keyboard is perfect.

Got this on sale and am very happy with it. Lots of fun to play. It is a bit of a strippo model (no on/off light, just LCD display), but what's there is good. Pitch wheel feels solid and works well. I use it as a midi controller. Saved a lot of money using this instead of an "official" controller. No mod wheel but most software allows you to draw that in anyhow. I also like to plunk away on the keys while waiting for my computer to respond. Great little addition to my bedroom studio!

Great for beginner

Bought for my daughter to learn piano. This keyboard + a $10 USB A/B cable + Piano Marvel software = success (as long as they practice)!

This is a fun little keyboard

It does quite a bit more than I realized. The sound is pretty good, although the maximum volume is much less than pianos I have been used to. I haven't had any luck connecting it with the computer. Headphones work, so long as you have the proper adapter. If I would improve anything, it would be the volume output, and the lighting on the control screen, which is a bit weak.

Great keyboard!

Nice touch and sensitive keys. Good sound. Excellent price. My only kwibble is with the volume control slider switch which is not on a par with the rest of the unit

Good unit

I bought this for myself for Christmas. I am using the built in computer for learning how to play. It won't teach you how to read music, but it will certainly get your fingers working and help with muscle control. It is a fair sounding keyboard, there are better ones out there for sure, but can't beat it for the price. The weighted keys are quite nice, allowing you to add a personal touch to the sound. All together, a good buy. If I had to recommend one under [price], I'd choose this one. (By the way, I got a good deal -- [price] on sale at Best Buy in Canada)

Good Keyboard

Good keyboard. Nice and sturdy. Sounds great. Have not tried the MIDI interface yet. Here's hoping that functions as well as the rest of the unit does!
