The extra front facing USB ports are nice, but the hard drive enclosure really isn't. It says it fits any 2.5" drive, but it means slim drives. I tried to put a 4 GB drive Seagate in and it didn't quite fit. About 1 mm too thick. I shaved down the plastic on the inside with an exacto knife, and managed to get it it. After transferring about half of the files to my drive, the drive (which worked fine with my PC for about a year) died.
I loved the fact that it matched the Xbox One and mated to the side of it. I had to physically remove the side panel from my Xbox and insert it in place on the Media Hub as it would not otherwise snap in to my Xbox.
My hard drive required the use of an external adapter. Note that it does not come with one, nor does it come with a plug that fits any 5V adapter known to man; it actually uses a size more commonly utilized in 12V equipment (But can only handle 5V, be forewarned)
Upon inspecting its insides to see why my 5V adapter wouldn't fit, I found that the circuit board was plastered with copious amounts of flux (a material that helps with soldering that is usually rinsed off afterwards as it is slightly corrosive, leaving it on may eventually result in broken connections) and I also found that a number of the solder points on the connector that would be inserted into the Xbox were either unsoldered or soldered poorly.
For the half day that it worked, it was a great little thing. I may try to swap it for another one and hope the person soldering it was having a good day.
This media hub works exactly as advertised. My 500GB hard drive runs perfectly on it with no issues and all the usb slots read fine. It was a bit stiff to get it to click into place but once it was on it seemed secure. The only small issue I have is that my hard drive does not turn off when the Xbox is in "Instant On" mode. Even with the "turn hard drive off when not in use" is selected it still stays on. The green LED indicator goes off but I can hear the drive spinning still. You can easily work around this by simply putting the Xbox in "Energy Saving" mode but it would have been nice to keep it in "Instant On" so it would download updates automatically. Regardless, I'm still happy with the purchase since I had an old broken laptop laying around with a perfectly fine hard drive. Saved me money and the added memory looks much cleaner than adding an external hard drive.
The media hub adds easily accessible USB ports, replacing the awkward side one. When adding a hard drive it's a simple install. If it doesn't show up after clicking the hub back in place simply turn off the console. Hold the power button for 10 seconds so it's fully shut down. After starting up it popped up for me and was easy to formate the drive then move content over to it. Great product.
It did what it says it does. Very happy with it. Looks perfect attached to my xbone.
5 stars. Plastic is thin but this performs great. Nice clean install with no wires.
I could have bought an external for probably $50 less total. But I liked the clean look.
Installed (with ease) a SAMSUNG Spinpoint M9T ST2000LM003 2TB 5400 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive.
Just follow the instructions by screwing the bars on the hard drive then slide it into the connector. Easy.
Installed on the Xbox one and to recognize it I had to power it down (holding down for 10 seconds) then powering up. As soon as it's back on it recognized the new device and requested to format. Did that and had 1.8tb good to go (all computers seem to reserve some memory.
I saw this product as a great opportunity to clean up some clutter around my xbox. Sure enough it works great. Added a 1TB Solid State Hybrid drive (after reading many sites, SSHD seems to be the way to go for the best speed). The metal pins that hold the device to the console are pretty lame and easy to bend. I would not trust moving around the console with the hub attached. They slip into the seems of the plastic on the Xbox. Hardly secure, and was a pain getting them lined up. Setting up the drive is no different than a normal one. For the tech illiterate writing reviews, go into Settings, System, Storage to format the drive manually. Some drives come preformatted (like Seagate) and won't show the popup on the Xbox so you need to do it manually. There is an option for a AC adapter (not included) in case your drive can't be powered by USB3 or you have many high energy usage components plugged into the hub. Overall it matches the look of the console, but there is an annoying bright green activity light they could have made white to match (and less bright).
I added old Laptop drive I had laying around. Was super easy, and it has front USB3.0! For the price, its a win win...
Bought this product with a laptop hard drive. On the box it said bring to geek squad and we will install it. So when I did they manager said sorry we don't deal with any xbox product. So i took it home myself and it installed great. Plug it in fried my hard drive. Brought it back to store got new hard drive...FRYED ANOTHER HARD DRIVE. Returned to store told me to buy this 60 dollar cord and do this stuff on my laptop. Tryed it...FRIED ANOTHER HARD DRIVE!!!!! Overall terrible product that nobody in all of best buy can do.anything with.
Bought western digital 750gig laptop hard drive . Works great....only issue is snapping it in, doesn't line up well..... Solution, take the little grille off xbone, pops off easily, this made quick connection and the XBone read the drive right away!
I especially like how unobtrusive it is and simple for me when bringing my xbox to friends without having to remember yet another accesory
usb ports work great and easy access! I tossed in a 7200 rpm 800 gig sata drive and been working solid since xmas. You can't go wrong getting this. Drive comes up in system settings and you let it format to the system . let it default for the install drive and good to go! Easy to use, easy to install drives. easy instructions to follow (even for the dumbest of people) Buy it!
Installed a 1TB seagate drive from bestbuy tried numerous times but no HD install menu came up, drive only showing as a media hub unable to save, transfer or dowload games, will try a different drive
I bought this a coupe of days ago along with a 1TB Western Digital 2.5" HDD. It is awesome. Does exactly as it is supposed to. Only issue was when plugging into the XBONE, the XBONE did not recognize the HDD right away. I had to disconnect the hub and re-connect it 3 times to get it to recognize it. But asside from that... excellent product. Fits Nicely and looks great.
Took me 5 minutes to install, there is a video tutorial, and now I have OVER 1TB of space on my console. This thing is awesome!
It took a bit of troubleshooting to get the Xbox One to detect the hard drive at first. But once it detects the setup is simple and the extra storage is awesome! The FAQ, on the products website, suggests to clear MAC address and Bluray Storage under Advance Settings. Also, changing the power mode to energy savings and rebooting seemed to work. Installed an old laptop hard drive (Seagate 750gb) to the Xbox One. Extra USB 3.0 ports are a plus.
if u have an xbox one this is a product u NEED. I had a little trouble getting the harddrive recognized but once i did and got it installed i can't imagine not having one its actually impossible for me not to have one. If you have an xbox one get this.
Excellent product. It took a bit of time for my Xbox to recognize the Hard Drive, but once it did it took only a few seconds to format and it was up and running. The unit looks great and unless you tell anyone about it, you would never know the difference! Excellent and easy way to add storage to your Xbox One!
Do not recommend this product as it killed my hdd. Tried two different 2.5 inch drives inside of it and it did not close properly due to how the door was built (causing the unit to not sit snug against my Xbox). After grinding down a plastic ridge on the door so it would fit properly my hdd died that evening. Though a very cool and practical addition to your Xbox One I would not trust this product.
Couldnt be happier with this product. Purchased this shortly after it came out and was skeptical to how well it was going to work. Needless to say this works with virtually any 2.5" SATA drive and does exactly what the company describes. If your looking to add extra storage, need more/better placed USB ports, then this is the best option out there.
This is exactly what I was looking for! Product works exactly as advertised. Allows you to add any 2.5 inch SATA drive and adds 3 USB 3.0 ports to the front of the console. After 24 hours I have zero complaints.
I bought this for two reasons.. I was running out of Hard Drive space and I hated having to reach around my console to get at the USB ports. I have my XB1 in a TV stand and was worried with the hard drive installed it would block the air flow on the left hand side. I have logged over 40 hrs without any issue so far. Seems to handle all the power requirements no problem even with the 2 GB hard drive mounted.
Easy to install and looks really good.
Bought this actually at Futureshop which is owned by Bestbuy. Physical install is easy. The instructions said to power down xbox before attaching but I had to attach it with it powered for it to recognize the hard drive. Plastic but looks like it's part of the xbox. Front ports are nice to have. Drive light is a little bright. Anyway - nice way to conceal an extra drive. Now if only Microsoft would add DVR functionality and allow you to store media files and games on the same drive, you would have a device that could replace a home theater computer.
I picked up this and was very pleasantly surprised. It really does look like it was meant to be part of the machine. The front USB ports are a life saver and it was very easy to put a 2 TB drive in. My xbox one recognized the drive I put in immediately and now I have 2.5 TB of storage. Seamlessly worked with my xbox one-just like a product should. I was impressed that it did not replace my internal storage but works in conjunction with it. To be honest the xbox one should have been built with this add-on as standard. Great product!! Highly reccommend.
