Two already

Over the past two days, two of these D-Link switches in my home connected via a 40-foot Cat6 cable have done close to 10 hours of HD video and audio streaming (with movies up to 15GB and FLAC stereo files up to 192kHz/24bpch) between a Western Digital MyCloud NAS and a WDTV streamer, and I have had no complaint but only the best impressions so far. Implementing the switches has freed up my WiFi Router and WiFi Extender from having to do heavy-duty home internal streaming. Copy operations of GB-size files from a Windows 7 local drive to the NAS on the other side of the switch-cable-switch report consistently 40-45MBytes/s (the disk speed probably is now the bottleneck), which is far better than 13GBytes/s maximum which I was getting while I was using even the highly-performing 802.11ac WiFi router and extender with a dedicated 5GHz channel between them (before using the switches). After the hours of streaming, the switches are only warm, i.e. it makes me very happy that they are not hot. I am going to buy the third switch for a third room, and so wire up most of my home, and the WiFi router and WiFi extender will be used only by those devices that must WiFi. The D-Link switch is very light weight, which allows me to mount it “invisibly” at the back of the audio/video cabinet simply by means of Velcro tapes, and the switch does not fall off the cabinet like some heavier gear.

Not recognizing a longer Ethernet segment

I bought this switch from another vendor, and had to return it. My home Ethernet was professionally installed, and the segment from the basement (DSL gateway) to the computer is <30 meters (1/3 of the maximum 100m Ethernet standard). But this switch could not recognize that particular segment. It worked for all other (shorter) connections. This switch does not have its own power supply, which could be the problem.

Excellent switch

This switch is excellent, just plug it in and it works straight away. No configuration necessary and it's invisible on the network. The only thing I'm not sure I like is that the lights are on the top behind a transparent window. If, like me, you intent to have it up out of the way then you won't be able to see the lights to see which ports are connected and the speed at which they're running. It also doesn't stack like the older D-Link routers and switches do since the top is smooth and curved.
