Download driver from D-Link website

I have windows 10 and when I tried to plug and play, the wifi speed was pretty much the same as when I was using my very old usb adapter. But, after downloading the proper driver software from the D-Link website and installing it, things worked smoothly and my download speed doubled. So just make sure you download the driver (regardless of what the instruction says) you will be ok.

Fast WiFi, easy installation

I bought this after the WiFi chip in my wife's laptop cratered. I have a D-Link AC1600 router and Shaw internet. Until recently, all the computers in our home supported 'N' class networking. This USB WiFi was easy to install without any issues. The speed improvement is very noticeable and I plan to get one for my laptop, even though my laptop's 'N' network chip is still working. Highly recommend.

Drops connectivity with Rogers Modem

Was working just fine with Bell.....but aforementioned problem when I switched provider to Rogers. Tech support couldn't help much.

Crap documentation, hours wasted following instructions with windows 10

The documentation is crap. So little information is given and what is given isn't even accurate. Got the same result as others have reported. Install CD software first, plug in device when instructed to do so, go through the process, device shows error, go through variations of install process and reboots of laptop including downloading updates for the driver multiple times. Eventually it started working. Wasted so much time that I had no time left to actually try the device in the customer where I needed to use it. Maybe with windows 10 you should just plug it in and go but as it says disconnect all other wifi devices first I was left without internet so couldn't download the updated driver and follow the instructions. I would not buy another D-Link product on the basis of my experience with this one. It may be a good performer once it's up and running but at a cost of hours trying to get it working.

Frequently disconnects from Rogers router, sometimes unable to re-connect

Owned product for about 3 weeks, and problems started right around the 2 week mark (end of their return policy). When using the 5ghz band (wireless AC, 80 mhz) with Rogers Modem/Router, connection would drop and often I would be unable to connect to the router again until I do a reboot. None of my other devices have this issue, including 4 year old phones. Would return if I had the option.

Piece of junk - loses connection repeatedly

The speed is great, but that is irrelevant when it consistently drops the connection to the internet. Just google this wireless adapter and you will see it is a well known problem. Their warranty department will barely question you because they know it's a piece of junk and this is a well established issue with this adapter. Only problem is that they will only service it and then send you back another piece of junk. By the time you pay to shipping it their you may as well get a new one and save yourself the time and trouble.

Great solution

I was having trouble with an overcrowded 2.4 GHz connection and wanted a solution to use 5GHz and this worked flawlessly. I have windows 10 so all I had to do was plug in the USB to my laptop and it connected right away with no need to install drivers or anything. Really happy with my purchase and have had no problems with it whatsoever.

Good range, fast speed

I have Rogers 100Mbps Ignite package. The AC Wifi modem is downstairs, this usb wifi dongle is 2 floors above and gets 5 bars signal. Using Speedtest.net I got 130mbps on the 5Ghz band. Quite impressed.

Windows 10

Windows 10 users do not use install cd you will be wasting your time, go directly to the d-link website and download windows 10 drivers. updated drivers released on sep-15. setup still kinda clunky but doable. good luck and enjoy!

Work with USB3 only

I have an old desktop without wireless internet connection, so I went to buy an USB adapter for my USB1 terminal. It worked when I install it but after I reboot my computer, it doesn't work. The problem was the program switches back to USB3 and the adapter become useless. I need to un-install two programs from control panel and re-install to make it work for a while. When it works, the download speed went up to 1.5 MB, it was real good.

3-hr setup up failed

I thought adapter this would be a piece of cake to install. 3 hours into it after trying on a desktop and a laptop with exactly the same results: adapter does not find any wireless networks. So I called D-link support: they told me to switch the drivers from Win 7 Prof to Win XP (kinda old, but hey ... it's the support guys). With that I was able to see the networks, but not connect to any. Useless tech after all, similar to their adapter. ohh, one more thing ... I work in IT.

Awesome Product

Have a new Fibe Home 2000 802.11AC hub. Went from a 72 Mbps speed on 2.4 ghz wireless to an average of 580 Mbps on 5 ghz. No hesitation on HD video streaming. Rock solid performance. Will buy 2 more of these to connect iMac and Win 8 PC.

excellent wifi adapter.

Put the disc in and follow the instructions. This wifi network adapter works better then the internal one my laptop came with and has not dropped the connection once. The person who says it does not work on windows 8.1 is incorrect because that is what I'm running. I almost didn't buy it and would have missed out on a great product because of your comment so you need to be careful before making those kinds of comments. Highly recommend this product even on windows 8.1.

Great dual band adapter

I bought this adapter after replacing my old Linksys router with a D-Link dual band one. Only then did I realize that my previous D-Link adapter was only on the 2.4ghz band, and I decided to purchase this one to make the most out of the new router. The setup was a breeze and the performance has been fantastic. I have my PC on the 5ghz band for downloading torrents, while our phones and laptops are on the 2.4ghz band. I also have my PS3 hard-wired into the router, and so far streaming video to my TV downstairs has been great. The connection between my PC and router and now solid, and I am able to get the most out of my 24mbps connection. All in all a great buy for anyone looking to get the most out of a dual band router, or the upcoming AC wireless technology.

Finally decided to purchase an ac adapter for my DRI-865L. Easy to install. Files that took some time to transfer and download are breeze and much faster. Definitely recommend this product.
