A bit unstable

In general pretty good. But have to reboot it frequently.

Impressive device for the price

Got it on sale for $[price]. Was having trouble getting the wifi signal to reach our third floor. Set up was easy. I used NetSpot (for mac) to look at the signal strength changes by it. Originally, nothing changed. I moved it from outlet to outlet around the house until it hit the sweet spot. It doubled the signal strength in the upstairs bedroom. It's REALLY important that you find that "black area" that they refer to in the user manual. Otherwise, it'll seem like it's not working. It works great once you do though. Couldn't be happier with this product.

Works great

I bought the 1520 about a month ago based on reviews I read here and other websites. Our house is about 3000 sq. ft. and signal was weak in the living room and second floor. Set-up was a snap and took less than 2 minutes. Most of that time was the unit doing it's set-up routine. I literally plugged it into the wall near the wireless router, pushed the button on the extender and on the router (also a D-Link) and after a few seconds it was ready to go. It was that simple. I then moved it to the hall outside the living room. I immediately got a strong signal in the living room and on the second floor. It worked for my laptop, tablet and two smart phones. However, after a few hours, the signal died to my laptop. An hour or so later, it died to the tablet and then the phones. Went to the D-Link website and did a live chat. The person on the other end said to update the software (it was already up to date) and then do a re-set (which worked). They could not tell me why it happened or if there was anything to do to prevent if from happening again. Fortunately, after the re-set it has been flawless. When I connect a device, it will automatically connect to whichever signal (router or extender) is stronger. If I'm walking around while connected it will not automatically switch to the stronger signal. I have to manually connect to the stronger signal. Not a big deal. Bottom line, this extender does exactly what I bought it to do and has done so without issue (after the one little hick-up was fixed). I got it on sale for $[price] so the value is outstanding. I highly recommend it.

Unsure about this...

* I am no computer expert but assume this product increases the wifi strength throughout my home. I tried testing the wifi strength several times before and after installing it and noticed no difference. Actually a slight decrease to the wifi strength. Am I doing something wrong? * Since installing it my phone seems to keep having trouble connecting to the wifi where before it never had any issues. * Am I supposed to connect to my home's wifi or to this device when it shows up in my wifi options? Not sure on this. * My wife was having troubles connecting with her phone and it seems to be working now so that is good at least (or it was something not related, who knows) * I need to look into the number of days before I can return this and try to test the wifi strength with and without it again. Argh, was hoping for plug and play, nice and easy, no fuss

so far so good

Purchased this via boxing day sales. Got 2 of them, one upstairs and one on main floor. My initial wireless router is in basement where cable modem is. Always had weaker signals on 2nd floor and some spots on main floor. With these two extenders, weak areas are gone. No connection issues and they seem to be working fine. Very easy to set up and install. Next on my list is to replace my main router with an AC capable unit.

Bought this on boxing day and it has solved the dead zone problem my house has, my whole house has internet now. It was easy to connect and configure and I have blazing speed compared to my horrible internet companies router. 5*

worked great

Purchased on sale online. Worked as said , improved my wifi for my phones and TV's throughout the house . No more problems with slow speeds for the kids or my Netflix on my smart tv. Found the set up to be a little harder than said .

Extrememly difficult to set up

What I thought would be very simple setup was not to be. The extender would not setup with my router so I attempted to set it up on line. Nothing I did worked. Unclear instructions didn't help. I then spent almost two hours on the phone with dlink technical support. We finally got it connected (solid green light on the extender) but there was no internet access. We tried two computers and our phones. No access. Tech support has had to escalate the problem to, higher techs(?) We are now waiting for a call back. Way more trouble than it's worth. If no one calls back today, it gets returned.

D-Link Dual Band DAP - 1520

Just bought one. Great product Followed the simple instructions - works great

Good product Poor Instructions

Bought this extender from retail store because it was a wireless dual band with a stronger signal then others. The easy setup instructions listed on the box using the WPS button on my router would not work after repeated attempts and required me to go to Dlink website to get instructions for manual setup. Manual setup instructions do not cover everything. After setting up and naming the two bands it asks you if you wish to save the bookmark. if you indicate yes it will not move to the next step. After a couple attempts I indicated cancel and it then proceeded to reset my extender and complete the configuration as desired. if instructions had included this step it would have saved me some aggravation. Maybe to a tech savvy person this would have been a problem. Seems to work great now.

Didn't work

I returned this after one day. I configured it correctly but the device kept losing the signal from my router. When it did have the signal it didn't boost it by much.

Works great!

I needed it to extend a weak signal from my router across the house. My devices connect to it no problems. Setup was easy. If the auto connect doesn't work, try the manual setup and input the provided password. Make sure to stick the info onto the extender in case you need to reset it. Works like a charm!

disappointing product

The DAP-1520 was extremely finicky while installing. It took several tries to simply get it to connect to the router. Once installed it has proven to be moody with frequent disconnects even though it is installed in a high connectivity area. I do NOT recommend this product as it causes too much trouble

Best Choice

My basement tenant had issue that they can't use my wifi, after installed Wifi range extender DAP-1520, issue has been resolved, now i have access of wifi every where and also backyard and drive way. Speed is also good, only setup installation was lit bit difficult. I will say it's best choice to extend wifi range.

Highly Suggest

I bought this about 3 weeks ago, and I'm really happy with it. It has worked so well. I have faster and stronger internet throughout my whole house now. Make sure you read the instructions inside the box, it's a bit more complicated to set up then I originally thought. I haven't had problems since it's been properly set up. Highly suggest it.

Works great!

Had some issues setting this up using the WPS functiion on my Bell OneHome router but the manual setup worked with no issues (only took 2 minutes). I needed the additoinal range for a tv I setup in the back corner of my backyard (approx 50ft from wher eAI setup the unit). Prior to the setup, I was gettng pretty much no signal back there - Now, I'm getting my full wifi speed (25MBps).

Does the job !

I was really hesitant between this product and the Netgear on the link below : http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/netgear-netgear-ac1200-wi-fi-range-extender-ex6200-black-ex6200/10284812.aspx?path=58bcc9220d9e449a00b22db5c27b316fen02 Dlink was pretty easy to install, took me 2 mins . Then I just tweaked it in the manual setup to make sure my network wasn't creating interferences on the first one. ( by changing the SSID and the password ) I also did the firmware upgrade which really improved. - Even the manual setup is so easy . AND , you do not need to be a geek in wifi. The only thing I regret is that , 300mbits has to be divided in 2. Since you have the dual band , 5gz and 2.4gs only gets around 120 mbits instead of 300mbits as shown. I guess it's also the same on the netgear. It also says to put it were you get decent wifi. I've tried to put it we're I got 5 bars and go to my appartment ( I'm sharing my wifi with a neibour and with a LOT of interferences between ) . I was still getting 2 bars at my place. Re-configure it and then moved it directly in my appartment . Got a 5 bars and did a speed test. It works perfectly fine . As I said , the only downside is the speed , if you want that top notch speed and you are ready to put an extra money on it , then go for a faster device, otherwise , if you're like me and trying to save a few extra bucks, then go for it ! :)

Fine once I set it up

Our problem was regular pauses and stops during Netflix shows. These became rather frustrating, as we waited and waited for the picture to resume after staring at a black screen. Our router is upstairs, and our Blu Ray player is two floors down in the basement TV room. This gadget solved the problem. No pauses now! The place to put it was the main floor, just above the TV area in the basement room below. But take note that first you set it up in the room where your router is, then you plug it in between your router and the distant room. The instructions were a little confusing at times, especially section 5 "connect your wireless devices." Ignore the little configuration card that's included, it just confused things for me. It's not completely clear, but the password you plug into the Blu Ray is the same one as for your router. Three networks show up now on our iPads, our original home network, and two new ones. It would have been helpful to know whether to choose "Ext" (which is 2.4 GHz I guess) or "Ext 5G" when connecting on the main or basement floor, but the instructions don't say.

This Works, Ceci fonctionne

Je partage l'internet avec un voisin. On a le service de 15mbps. Je fais le test videotron de vitesse, dans mon appart et j'ai 0.8mbps en download, 4 en upload. Apres avoir installe le extender, je suis passe a 15mbps. This works. Made videotron speed test before installing the extender and got less than 1mbps on download. The service is 15 mbps. After installing the extender I got the full 15mbps. It is specified in the box to install the device between the black zone and the router, I've installed it on the black zone and it looks that is not so black for the DAO-1520 extender. I'm extremely happy with this buy.

Great product that does what is advertised

My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is due to its messing up when using the WPS setup however this may be due to the whole technology itself, not the device. After using the manual setup, the device has worked perfectly and has extended the wireless through two floors and multiple walls in my house.

Works perfectly

I just bought this today after suffering with a weak signal in one of my rooms - would get 2 or three bars and often lose signal completely. This room is located on the same level as the modem and router. It took about 5 minutes to configure the range extender. Now I get 5 bars in the aforementioned room and am very happy.

Not in our house

I bought this to get better Wifi coverage on the second floor and loft. I installed it on the ground floor (the Videotron Wifi router is in the basement). It gave me good signal strength on the second floor and loft but it would periodically drop its connection with the Videotron Wifi router, so we would lose Internet connectivity. I took it back to Best Buy. Instead I got Videotron to install a newer more powerful Wifi router, and we now have good coverage throughout the house.

Fantastic! Quick and easy set-up!

I purchased this unit to extend the wireless coverage to the 2nd floor of my home and all I can say is WOW!!! Where I once had spotty coverage, I now have full signal. Looking forward to test the backyard this summer. The unit ships with the Ver.1.00 Firmware but the upgrade to Ver.1.01 was quick and painless using the Upgrade Option. Oddly, the dates seem to mismatch between what was shown in the upgrade window vs. what actually installs in the device which prompts the extender to believe there is a new FW upgrade available every time you login. A minor annoyance but I'm sure D-Link will have a newer release shortly which should rectify this! Set-up took all of about 10 minutes with the Web based GUI vs. the WPS option. I currently use custom settings so it's nice to see how well the Web GUI works to allow custom configurations. I purchased this particular extender as I required a dual-band option to integrate with my existing DIR-825 Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit Router. Works flawlessly!!! I would strongly recommend this unit if you need to extend wireless signals to reach those spotty areas or dead spots! The built in Statistics page is great if you want to look at the traffic on both your Wi-Fi and Extended Wi-Fi networks. Fantastic device! Love it!

Easy set-up

The performance of this product is impressive. 2,500 square foot home with my router located on the bottom floor in a corner. This resulted a few areas of the home- in particular the master bedroom - with weak wifi signals. After a 1-2-3 setup (D-link made it so easy) the wifi extended to full bars in the master bedroom. The streamer I have hooked up to the TV is experiencing no lag time streaming content.

So happy with this buy, was deciding between the DAP-1320 and this unit the DAP-1520, and went with the dual band option. Now I get great reception outside on my patio and in my garage! Easy to set up, and easy to use. Thanks D-Link!

Works very well.

I have a DIR-860L also made by D-Link and wanted a better wireless signal in my bedroom to stream Netflix. I'm covering about 4000 sq ft. DAP-1520 was very easy to setup using WPS feature, plug and play. WiFi signal went from 2 to 5 bars using my laptop and cellphone. Couldn't be happier with this purchase and can't wait to find out what the signal is like in the backyard! Please hurry up summer.

I have the Shaw Cisco router, and wasn't getting a very strong signal upstairs (the router is on the main level). I plugged the DAP 1520 into the outlet at the top of the stairwell, used WPS to connect, and within 30 seconds, I had a great connection upstairs...full bars. It adopted my network name and added "EXT" on the name, so I knew what to connect to, and it used my existing network password. Very happy with this product.
