Buy something else!

I've owned this router for 8 months and the signal is weak (No wifi in my backyard), and my networked computers communicate intermittently. It also locks up ever few weeks and needs rebooting. The UI is antiquated and not friendly to non techy types. I've gone through 2 firmware updates (I'm on 1.13WW, the latest) and it still performs like crap.

Weak, but cheap.

The interface is quirky but the performance is actually quite good. Signal penetration is poor, but in an apartment it is fine. The support for USB drives is a but of a gimmick. Very poor implementation and the support folks at DLink know nothing about using this on OS X. Though the guy in the store was very quick to tell me it works with Time Machine, that doesn't appear to be the case. Very poor customer service unless your configuration is cookie cutter. In those cases though perhaps you don't need it. Cheap, but I cannot recommend it if you are using OS X and plan to use the alleged "cloud" functionality. Clumsy and cumbersome.

Set up not straight forward.

Bought this router to replace an old 802.11g D-Link router that was no longer working well with Windows 8 machines. (The old router had no problem with XP, vista, window 7 or macs). I have the router in the living room and I am happy with the range. All three levels of the house get full bars. I loose connections when I cross the street. Speeds are as advertised. The only problem was the install. The initial setup went fast and I was up and running in 10 min. but after adding my third device i noticed that one of the bands no longer worked. Then after 20 min. everything stopped working, even my modem! After doing a lot of trouble shooting, without internet, I simply said a prayer and did a factory reset on my modem and everything started working properly. Currently have a laptop, a couple of tablets and a smart TV running without problems.

Just ok

Had a Netgear before which gave me no problems at all. Got a new computer which the Netgear didn't support. Bought this router expecting some decent performance. Frequent disconnections, interrupted service. However, when it is working, it is high speed. I guess you get what you pay for and if I could do it again - I'd shell out an extra $100 for a worry-free experience.

Tech savviness may be required

When I tried to install the router, it took me 3 hours on my own and 30 minutes on the chat line to figure out. If you have a modem from your internet service provider and you are using the default, you may have to change it on the router to a different number like etc. for it to work. Wireless was not an issue but the wired connection required the change. Also, the USB at the back was a bit sloppy. You have to install the shareport on each computer and when you try to print, only one person can print at a time which I think is not sensible for a printer that is purely USB capable. If one person is connected to the printer via shareport, you have to request the person to disconnect in order for you to connect and print. I ended up just getting a wireless printer to do the job. The same thing goes with external hard drive which only supports up to 1TB via USB. Lastly, the ethernet port at the back of the router was a bit tight. It felt like you were going to break it when trying to remove it and put it in a different port. The WPS button was too small, I have big fingers and trying to locate a WPS button that is the size of the reset button was a no brainer. The manufacturers should have made the WPS button bigger. Connection is strong throughout the house so I that is a plus side.

D-Link AC1200 Gigabit Router DIR-850L

This router has a limited range and does not cover a three floor home. Not recommended.

Does not see files. Does not have USB 3.0

In the user manual D-Link shows how to set up USB 3.0 but there is no such option. Also, this router was not able to read the files from 2 different USB drives. I don't recommend this router. It's going back to the store.

"Extended range" is an exaggerated claim

The range is very limited for this router. Consider placing this router right in the middle of your home. Otherwise, consider a different router.

I own all DLink products. And this router is just another example of why i like their products. Works well, easy to setup and configure. You can't go wrong with DLink's stuff.

D-Link Wireless AC Router (DIR-850L)

I really liked the html based web-UI to setup the router. other than old versions of D-Link routers that loaded the Administrative UI slow. This UI is very fast also when saving changes! The Router provides two networks (2.4Ghz & 5Ghz) and the option of guest-access for each of these networks, which can be setup separately! The router works out of the box, is instantly secured with a wifi password and easy to configure - if you feel like it. I gave it a 5 for value, as I bought it for [price], which was half price compared to the prices in the US! I am very happy with the buy, performance wise. The only downside is that this model does not come with USB3.0. But this was not a criteria for me, as I am operating my own NAS.

range is poor and slow speeds on both bands

I am a fan of DLINK routers I like their web admin interface. My USB wireless N adapter is DLINK as well. I bought this DIR-850L to replace a DLINK DIR-628 which has worked well for past few years with my Cisco router in bridged mode. But this 850 was even slower. My router setup is in the basement. On the second floor, my PC was connecting at 2.5Ghz and 5Ghz speeds of 10Mbps and 3Mbps respectively. Simply unacceptable and returned to BestBuy. If you have a small home maybe it is ok but otherwise stay away.

Love the dual band for streaming

I stream most of my entertainment and have 3 sources that require a lot of bandwidth. This was an upgrade from a much lower DLink and performance is yummy. Few stutters and dropouts. Do not get others "trouble" with install. Totally straight up and quick.

Good Router

I bought this to replace another D-Link router that i've been using for the last 3 years. The old one would drop Internet connection if wifi devices downloaded too much information. Only draw back of this router I can see so far is it doesn't have great RSSI upwards. I have it in the basement of a back split and I only get 2 bars at the front of my house which is only 8' higher than the router is sitting. May be from a lack of external antennas.

D-Link Wireless AC Router (DIR-850L)

I had to enter my wireless password numerous times before it finally saved it. It took a lot longer to setup than I thought it should after stubbling along trying to get my laptop to authenticate when the password wasn't being saved in the router.

Nothing special

Very low broadcast range! My transmit power is "high" and i loose my signal in 20 ft. I have better performance with my old lynksys router for much cheaper

Works Great

I replaced an older 802.11g D-Link router with this one. The previous router had issues dropping connections with our modem (sometimes daily). Those problems have not occurred since installing this router. Range is good. It's dual band so if you have older 5.8Ghz phones which cause interference with the one band or your PC doesn't support 802.11ac yet, you can always opt for the other band. A noticeable improvement over my old router.

Reliable, good reception

I've had the router for about a month now - setup was quick and we noticed a big difference in speed and reception from our old previous generation router (WRT54G). Good deal on sale during black friday deals.

Great Gigabyte Router

This 850L was to replace my Linksys 300N that crashed. It was very easy to setup. An internet connection wizard and a wireless setup wizard. Works great. No problem with the homegroup network connection. Easy GUI on the router admin panel and great to be able access router with online feature.

If I could get past the install part, maybe I could better review this product. It was so hard to install. Skip, if you don't want to spend a day installing it

So far so good

My wireless connection started to cutting in and out recently and I got this router to improve the stability. Any given time, I have 5 to 7 wireless devices connected and this router is doing what I wanted. Although, I did not notice the huge performance upgrade in comparison to my old router, definitely, the wireless connection is stable which was my main purpose of purchasing this router to begin with. No complaints so far.

OK, not stellar

Works basically the same as my older Cisco unit does. I was hoping for better broadcasting capabilities but it was actually worse than my older E3000 Cisco. Also, after setup, the wireless stuff worked great but since it's native IP address is different from others, most of my network printers, etc. stopped working causing me great pain in the office. I'll wait until more hardware is compatible with the AC part of the router before I buy one since getting this now is of no benefit to me since my current router works identical in most respects.

Fast Dual Band Router

The installation was easy. Tried a few different AC routers and decided to keep this one. Although my current router is not broken, ran into some issues streaming HD files. With this router, no issue streaming media files (mostly HD files) . Very happy with its performance and it was cheaper than others I had tested.

good performer with latest specs

My old linksys crapped out on me after 3 years so I picked up this one. Install was very easy with my Bell modem. I get addtional coverage to my 3rd floor and out to the backyard. The only AC wireless device I have is the Samsung s4. It connected well, but I can't tell the difference in speed. My only negative is the lack of leds to show activity. The is a very nice router and the price was the best out of all the AC routers.
