I bought open box. Safe money and install the router easily. This is my 5th router. Tried Links, dlink; Asus, netgear... last one Asus suddenly decided to die. So the first thing is upgrade the firmware, because it was still on 1.0. After contacting Dlink support through Chat; the tech support send me the link and the upgrade was uneventful. Nothing to note. Everything went smoothly. Speed is w8 mbps. Coverage is great. My whole apartment 1epp sqft was well covered. All full strength. My first dual band dlink N... was not this good. Coverage is bad in the bedroom. Now full strength. Cannot be happier with [price] 😊
Router is fast, 5G worked well, love it!
I got this router on sale for the same price approximately 6-7 months ago. The first month or two were ok on the wired computer, as expected from ANY router.
From day one though, the Wi-Fi was very intermittent. I am in a small apartment, only 1 floor. I don't really have any other wireless signals interfering with the router which was elevated to reduce any interference from electronics like tv, microwave, refrigerator, etc..
1 room away, the signal was weak, would drop easily. The Wi-Fi signal on my PS3 and PS Vita have been pretty bad, providing very slow transfer rates, same for the laptop. Constant disconnections from the router. Netflix on any wireless device kept having the stream quality varying.
The last few weeks have been horrible with any wireless device, to the point that I've had to move around my entire setup and connect my PS3 with an Ethernet cable.
Today, the router will not detect my internet connection, I have entered setup, reset it, reboot it multiple times, tested out all the different Ethernet cables, checked that the modem was ok (I am writing this plugged directly to the cable modem), the router is incapable of receiving the internet signal, so is pretty much paperweight.
Networking/Wi-Fi works, but without internet.
I may have a lemon, but I will feel wary of routers with less than 4-5 star ratings in the future. I'd recommend looking at other models and staying away, save yourself a few headaches and frustrations!
5GHz Band would not work despite the latest firmware installed. 2.4GHz was working fine. I even did a factory reset but it still didn't get the 5G band working so I returned it and got a Netgear AC1600 which worked great so I know it wasn't my PC that was the issue.
Connection is unstable

If you use cheap internet - don't blame the router for slow connection. I run 5 computers on my network and they all work glitchlessly. I don't use voip, so can't vouch, but other than that - great device. It has EVERYTHING. Remote access, IPv6, virtual server, firewall, port forwarding etc.
I installed this on the second floor of a 2400-sf two-storey home. The signal is fine within 20-30 feet but weakens dramatically beyond that. We have little wireless interference in our house and no stone or brick.
Installed the AC1600 very quickly using the handy mobile app. We've been running our home network through it for a few weeks and so far it's much faster, has better range, and has been more dependable than the router it replaced.
If the sign of a good router is that you can set it up and forget about it, then this one is a star.
It's one of the least reliable routers I've ever had. The router could not stay connected to any of my devices for more than 15 minutes at a time. The connection constantly drops. I'm returning it in less than 24hours of purchase.
It is fast, has good range and looks good. Much cheaper than AC1600 of other brands.
Unfortunately, it does not work with my voip phone (italkbb). I tried changing firewall setting, port forwarding and put the device in DMZ. None of these measures works. A Google search shows that it is a common problem with DLINK 8xx series. It is probably due to faulty firmware, which DLINK is notorious of. Maybe DLINK will fix the firmware eventually. But I cannot wait. It goes back to the store.
This is a shame since I really like the router. My phone works with Shaw cable modem/router, Telus DSL modem/router and an older DLINK model (DI-524). Eventually I bought Netgear 4300. It works with my phone without a single problem.
The setup process was quick and easy comparing to other brands. The performance is great so far and you can't beat that price.
Picked this guy up last weekend, the set up was pretty simple and the range is pretty good also.

Not great at all. Setup is fast; but dual band needs work on this. Offers 5ghz and 2.4ghz. Both connections continuously kicked off my devices. Chrome cast barely made it through a song. Uploads were constantly dropped. Returning it after 24hrs. My old linksys router from 2000 is outperforming it right now. Better quality; stronger signal from the old one. Would not recommend.
Okay so I just got this because my old one was very slow and I was getting into competive gaming so I bought this one well it's bad I can't even go online on my Xbox one and 360 or my PS3 and 4 whenever I try to connect it works then as soon as I join a lobby I get disconnected I have tried everything for this router but it just won't work for any of them so if your buying this and play any game online.. DONT
This router provides a strong and reliable WIFI connections to 7 devices including a baby cam DCS-850L.
The connection speed is more than adequate and no buffering when VoIP phone is used.
Navigation through its configuration page is very user friendly and easy to use.
This router is a definite upgrade from my old one. I can now get a signal in my backyard and garage.
Setup was pretty easy and the online chat support answered my questions promptly.
Would definitely recommend.

I finally got my internet setup in my new place and needed a router to use wireless. First time doing everything myself so I was a little nervous. Picked up this badboy and had everything setup in minutes. Have not experienced wifi cutting out, and everything runs smoothly. Great experience with is so far and would definitely recommend it to all.
Like many of us out there my ever growing collection of wireless devices was crippling my old N300 router. I counted and we have like 25 devices connected. Needless to say we were dropping too many connections.
I purchased this one in part because I have always used D-Link products and figured they have always worked why change. Right out of the box was the first issue. The instructions say there is an App that I can use to set it up. I could not find the App on iTunes. So I called support, or well I tried to. In the box comes a bright orange "DO NOT RETURN TO THE STORE USE THIS" for tech support. No number is present only web support. So off to the web I go. Nothing there to tell me the App is no longer available. So back to the net to find a number.
The only number I could find was for their fee based support system. Once I got to talk to someone there he directed me to the free support. Once there I was directed around to get the app, which for what ever reason is not available in the Canadian store.....
In any event I did have some other issues with the setup of the USB system to power an HDD. I want to be very clear here their support was TOP NOTCH. The issue in the end was my computer and not their router. We tried it on another computer of mine and it worked flawlessly.
I have zero issues with this router, I have had a huge performance upgrade and no dropped signals over the last router. Our streaming performance has been out of this world. I would not hesitate in recommending this router to any one.
Very pleased with its performance. Easy to setup.
Resolved most of wireless connection problems
Long story short... Dropped connections. Had it plugged in for 2 hrs and had a smart TV running netflix upstairs, and my xbox one downstairs. We got disconnected at least 4 times!
I originally got THIS particular router to extend the range so that it would reach my basement theatre better... but no dice.
My previous Lsys router worked better than this.
I do not recommended the D-Link DIR-862L due to constant dropped 2.4 GHz wireless connections - even after a lot of troubleshooting with D-Link tech support and receiving a replacement unit with the same problem.
I made this purchase from Best Buy in September, 2014 to improve wireless coverage and bandwidth over my Shaw provided Cisco cable modem / wireless router. We use various wireless devices including - PCs, Mac Books, iPads and i-Phone and Android smart phones - in our medium sized two story home. There are three of us in our household and we are moderate users, but typically do not stream a lot of video wirelessly.
I spent many hours with D-Link technical support, resetting and configuring the unit, but to no avail. Eventually, I sent back the unit back and got a replacement. However, the replacement unit continued to dropped connections in the 2.4 GHz band. The 5 GHz band was fine on both units - but pure physics prevents the 5 GHz band from being able to penetrate walls as well as the 2.4 GHz when range is important.
While I was waiting for the return of unit I sent to D-Link, I purchased an inexpensive ASUS N-300 2.4GHz wireless router to tide me over. Night and day - no problems with dropped connections on the ASUS. Even with the previous Shaw CISCO router, I never had any dropped wireless connections.
So in the end, I've re-installed the ASUS N-300 which has the same or better range than the D-Link DIR-862L, albeit only with 2.4 GHz "N".
I truly think there is a design problem with this family of wireless routers from D-Link. They will not provide me with another equivalent replacement model, nor a refund, so I will never buy another D-Link product again.
Since I can no longer return the D-Link to Best Buy for a refund as its past my return date, the D-Link will go Best Buy's recycle bin.
Live and learn.
Bought this to replace my old DIR-628 which is about 5 years old. Just installed D-Link wireless cameras and was having problems with outside camera going off line all the time. Figured it was time to upgrade to a more powerful router. Had it 3 days and performance has been lousy. Lots of dropped connections from devices in the house. Range to outside camera is no better than old router. Really disappointed in this. Will be returning this to bestbuy and will explore wifi range extenders with old router instead.

Con's - Awful performance, dropped connection - waste of money
Picked this big guy up last week, set it up within a few minutes and had the kids connected in no time. Getting a lot better range then a linkcis one i bought first.
I would recommend this router to my friends (and the linkcis one to my enemy :)
Picked this router up to replace my old g router. Setup was a breeze and my internet is a lot faster. I would recommend this to others.
too expensive for its price, the WIFI is soo unstable, that keeps on disconnecting every 5-10mins, contacted D-Link 3 times and they resetted the router 3 times...
Purchased today, being returned tomorrow. Setup was a breeze, the mobile app is handy, that's about all I've got good to say about it. After getting all my devices back on the network when I sat down to play PS4 online, I noticed a large amount of lag. My D-Link Dir 655 I had prior too worked so much better.
Very easy to install and made a huge change in regards to range and speed
