I had an older dual band router that is many years old. It was suffering from occasionally powering its self off even when I had it on and all power connections were secure. Not to mention occasionally not supporting certain devices. I am getting more Wifi devices and when company comes it sucks to loose the wifi internet. I saw this Dlink triband router being offered, and I jumped for the sale offer.
I would recommend this product to anyone. If you have trouble online chat people are there to help over the phone etc, however I was able to easily and successfully install this by myself with no hassle. It is rated high for a reason they are awesome.
We upgraded to this 2 months ago from an older AC1750 router which wouldn't reach all areas of our 2000 sq ft house. Installed this router in less than 5 minutes, had everything up and running with no issues, and we have complete wi-fi throughout the house now (even the neighbours used our wi-fi when their shaw service failed). Very happy with this router, and the app to monitor the devices is pretty easy to use as well.
While it is quite fast, the main reason for buying this router was to hopefully get better coverage inside a 2000 sq. ft. home. Unfortunately, neither of the 2.4 GHz nor the 5GHz radio bands offered any better coverage than my old D-Link DIR 655 router (which only has the 2.4 GHz band).
Since range was the primary purchase reason and because the router did not deliver on this, I returned the product. I ended up buying a ASUS RT-AC68U router and am I glad I did! Both speed and range are very good, no more dead areas for wi-fi coverage inside the house.
I was previously running one of the competitors routers. On that router I was experiencing dropped connections (pages that wouldn't refresh, huge lag spikes while gaming and a wifi connection that couldn't handle more than wireless device streaming and a limited signal range)
So I got this router yesterday on a boxing deal...WOW am I impressed....
Now no more lag spikes, multiple streaming A OK, super strong signal and no dropped connections....set up was easy to use and don't forget to use the automatic firmware update for bug fixes and great stability.
This is first also that I have bought a product and did not want to return it for something else.
I have used dlink routers for many years so I thought I would upgrade to a higher end one. I was surprised that for a highly recommended router, the user web interface was not compatible with Chrome! (I spent a long time wandering why the setup wizard wouldn't work until I switched to Firefox). Then my Windows 7 pc would not connect to any other devices on my network although Windows 10 appears to be ok. The range/speed does not appear to be any better than my old router using a number of different devices.
I still can't get my network to connect so I will have to go back to my old router DIR 655 and return this one.
-continuously dropping my smart TV connection
-very low range
Overall: I bought the linksys AC5400 MU-MIMO and it solved all the issues... except I had a firmware issue with the linksys that took a while to resolve:
-Use manual setup
-Retry firmware flash
Anyways... I hate network gear.. it never seems to work right
After checking my devices located around my house and saw poor connection speeds i decided to shop for a better router. I prefer Dlink because i have several of there cameras and i can access the router and cams from my dlink app from anywhere. I brought this home and setup was very easy hut results were disappointing. I upgraded the firmware to latest and retest with same results. My old dlink dir 850l performed just as good as this one. I suppose the crtc has limits on signal strength so even the most expensive devices will be limited to those standards. I may return this and go back to my old setup.
Great signal throughout the house easily twice as strong of signal as my old ac1700 router. Major upgrade. Wait for a sale because price is a little high and it is pretty big (don't want it on your computer desk :-)
That is my only 2 issues and why it is not 5 stars.
I was told by a rep. To buy a linksys router that was on sale. Big mistake, couldn't get it to connect. Had all kinds of problems. So I returned it promptly and got this router. I had it up and running in no time flat. It's a great router. Thanks DLink!!!!
Not at all what I would think for a high end unit. Range is horrible. Had a cheapy router and thought it was time to upgrade. No range compared to what we had. Before we could get wifi outside, now two rooms over and it has the weakest signal. Back in the box and returned it. Went with something else 1/2 the price and it works great. Don't waste your time on this router
I purchased this to replace a linksys EA6500 that finally died after causing me nothing but grief for its life.
In summary this router works well. My download speeds at home have doubled and I have much improved coverage in my home. I have removed my range extenders and scrapped my plans to run a powerline solution.
Setup was a bit flaky as the screens in the guide do not match those in the guide but after a few minutes it was up and running. It also didn't like the fact that I can't power down my modem (has built-in battery backup).
Note that this product is BIG. I ended up mounting mine on the wall.
I have had countless routers over the years as well as in recent years a number of modem/routers from ISPs (though I've put them in bridge mode most of the time).
I recently purchased a new home and decided to use the ISP's Cisco modem/router in conjunction with an enterprise level Cisco AP (the house is quite large). After weeks of troubleshooting I determined the AP was simply not powerful enough for my needs.
I decided to look online for the best router of 2016 and this was identified as one of them. After unboxing I used the very user friendly web-based UI to setup the router. I continued my original setup (ISP Cisco Modem/Router as primary router with the DIR-890L) as an access point (very simple to put this device into access point mode in the UI).
I have been getting consistently fast speeds through my home and even around my house (front/rear lawns).
I am very impressed with this router and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for and extremely fast, long range wireless network.
You can use it without set-up, but if you have an internet cable, you must choose for ipv6 : "local connectivity only".
It is running slightly hotter than normal !
I have changed D-Link Wireless AC1750 Dual Band Gigabit Router
DIR-868L, which it has started to disconnect after 2 years service ...
I don't see any issue so far.
This is one of the best routers I have ever owned. It is able to provide full coverage for my entire outs allowing me to remove my range extenders. Setup is easy and Web UI is easy to navigate.
I don't have any hard numbers, but it seems faster to me than my old DIR-655 router. Having a single SID for all the routers modes is fantastic as well.
I gave it a 2 star overall rating because if for any reason you need to reboot the routers it is unable to reconnect to my Videotron cable modem. The only way to have it reconnect is to use the web UI and make any change to the WAN setting and save. Once you save it reconnects no problem.
This is not an issue if you are actually in your house and have access to the web UI, but if you are away and the power bumps your entire place loses internet connection. This means no more access to your WEMO lights, NEST thermostat and no more Minecraft server.
None of my other DLINK routers had this issue and this is the only component I have changed so its definitely a router issue.
So far DLINK support has been no help at all.
I don't usually write reviews, but this router is that good. I purchased it back in December and after upgrading to the latest software this router has never needed a reset. My old Netgear router need to be plugged in and out every week. Wifi speeds are incredible.
Spend the extra money on a high end router, It's worth it.
Ease of setup was excellent, and the range inside a house with many rooms is also top notch. No hang ups or stalls when running multiple wifi dependant items such as HD TV, Laptop gaming, VOIP phone et... all at the same time. Great product, very satisfied.
Everything is satisfactory
Upgraded from a Linksys EA4500 ... like upgrading from a Hyundai to a Porsche. Cost a lot more but worth every penny. Previous device had dead spots here and there. It wasn't able to handle multiple devices. Constantly low bars or no bars. Was a pain to set up or adjust. This D-Link was easy peasy to set up. Easiest router I've ever had to set up. Every device works at the same time (I must have at least 20+ wifi devices). I have coverage in the entire house. Don't nickel and dime. Spend the extra money. You won't be dissappointed.
Setup was a snap, a few issues, but a few firmware updates later ,all is well. Never lost signal anytime, IOS and Windows love this thing, nary an issue from either OS. I run Netflix on X box One,Ps4(2) ,IPhone 6 plus, and 3 smart TV's ,4K machines all love it. My wife and daughter both do work form this unit,I have placed a 256 gig thumb drive on it and a simple download from D link on each machine and i have 200 movies at my disposal. Inside so far(winter rain), I have sat outside 100 feet from my livingroom and it does not quit. Signal strength in bedrooms at opposite ends of the house all do not suffer any loss at all.I highly recommend this unit .All our visitors love the speed and reliability. I am sure they update all their machines when they visit, downloads are fast,so i am sure they put off some downloads until they visit me.
got it over the holiday. installed now for almost 2 weeks. easy set up. bought to replace router from Shaw. Watchin glots of shows online and found to be slow with Shaw router. Since I got the dlink, watching movies, shows online has been smooth and loading much faster. Still gets the occasional buffering but way less than before. Also the range is a whole lot better as my daughter is able to play minecraft online in the bedroom where she wasn't able to before.
Very easy to install and set-up. Signal strength throughout the house is stronger.
I did lots of research and read many reviews before buying this unit. Installation was simple and easier than any of other devices I had installed previously. Performance wise, I ran some test but did not find any significant improvements. Nothing special to configure and the settings were straight forward. Will see how it would perform in the next couple of days.
I did my homework before buying this router after a bad experience with another router. All my devices just seem faster. I don't know how to measure the speeds, but I can tell you I was impressed. Range is also good. I was thrown off by the one SSID for both 2g and 5g wifi signals. After I looked into it I realized that this was a feature and it switches your device based on the best performance. What a great idea. I updated the firmware based on one reviewer comment, but I didn't see what changes. BTW, it's pretty big router. Make some space if you by it.
A friend of mind recommend this router along with a some research on the internet. I wanted the best and I found it. The range is incredible. I was a little confused at first because the ssid is the same for 2 and 5G bands. I realized later that d-link has a feature that allows you to have one ssid and it figures out and changes automatically based on the best signal for your device. Wow, routers have come a long way! 2 weeks and all my devices connect and NO more complaints from my kids that they can't connect or wireless is slow.
The look of the router is nice. Wish I picked the red one after seeing it.
I'll be honest and start off that I bought this router because of its looks. It looks like a stealth bomber so it had to be great...right? I was not disappointed. My family constantly complained of bad wifi and problems with watching videos. I highly recommend this router. It's performance matches its looks!
No real complaints here. Setup was pretty simple and my network speed has increased substantially!
Would definitely recommend.
Overall very happy with this router. Was an easy install for me. I'm a basic user but was having issues as our household as a lot of wi-fi devices, this router handles them all and everyone is finally happy.
I tries this and its competitor from Netgear (x6). The signal on the Netgear is stronger for sure but I was inclined to keep this one mainly bcuz of its neat software interface. Another + was its higher speed compared to X6
the installation was straight forward. It took a while to understand why there is only one SSID, but after I did some research this is a very cool feature and makes it very easy for anyone to connect to the best signal based on there device.
I'm happy with the router after 3 weeks of running.
bought this router 2 months ago...
It cannot old the internet connection for more then 2 days...
re installed the firmware...nada...i finally put it outside and
destroyed it with an axe...it does'nt work better now...but what a releive...
I purchased this device for about 2 months then it stop working, the wifi keep disconnect on and off.
It's almost 3 weeks since I purchased this and everything is working very fast and my signal reach is much better. Make sure you upgrade the firmware though. It took me a couple of day and a call to tech support to find out there were some issues with connection to 5G, but now it works. My old tplink router needed rebooting every couple of days. This router just runs without having to touch it.
Live in a 1044 sq foot apt and our speeds in our farthest bathroom was 20 mbps with this new router we have jumped to 80+ mbps in that location. Wifi is now allot more stable and no more drop outs. Worth the Money !!!
I thought I would not go wrong with this purchase, as I needed a performing router for my demanding needs. I have VOIP, netflix, computers on my home network/home office, and many wireless devices (phones, ipads etc). I also needed a guest network.
The router seemed to performe very well at the begining but started to go wrong 2-3weeks after purchase. The red flag went up when I needed to reboot it a few times as internet connection started to drop. For no reason, it started to block my voip.
For [price], I expected this router to be a champ, but failed me. So I returned it and got the ASUS 3200. Much better choice, better performances, and I have more advanced controls in the router interface than the d-link.
Hope this helps someone in their decision making process, but for me, this router did not perform to my expectations.
Big and fast. Fairly easy to install and handles traffic well, at times there are 25+ devices running through it and it handles that without a problem. the wifi speed runs at about 67% of the wired speed but with the 3 bands there appears to be minimal lags. It is pricey but has been worth the outlay thus far
My old router wasn't getting me the speeds or range that I wanted. So I picked up this monster and it is amazing!!! Not only was a super simple to set up, it fixed those dead spots in my house. I also haven't noticed any lag when we have all our devices (Netflix, ps4, computers, iphones) in full force. Great range!!! Great performance!!! Great router!!!
I needed a strong contender to be able to supply my demanding needs for internet. I have game consoles, pc, voip phone system, netflix and many tablets that are all connected via this router.
My old router was loosing performances for my wi-fi needs.
For now, this router was easy to setup, and it as a very strong signal. Its situated in my basement, and provides instant wi-fi to my 3rd floor, and even outside on my patio.
Easy config menus, I set it up in about 15min (with advance config). To make it easyer for all the devices that were connected to my old router, I gave this new router the same ip adress, same name, and same internet password. That way, I disconnected the old, pluged in this new one an voila...all devices re-connected wihout a itch!
