Denon Recievers with the sweet sights and sounds of movies, music, and more

Denon AVR receivers bring home a world of entertainment with access to 4K, HDR, and 3D video, audio with Dolby Atmos processing and support for DTS:X, and built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Overview

Create your very own home theatre experience with the Denon AVR-S720W 7.2-channel network AV receiver. With support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio it offers stunning multidimensional sound options, while HDMI 2.0a support for 4K Ultra HD and HDR brings movies and TV shows to life like never before.

More Information

7.2-channel surround sound system

  • With 7 channels, each capable of delivering 75 watts RMS at 8ohms (20Hz-20kHz,THD:0.08%), the AVR-S720W produces clear, enveloping sound that brings movies, sports, and video games to vivid life.
  • Dual subwoofer units give you the option to connect 2 small subwoofers instead of 1 large sub. This produces deeper, smoother, more detailed bass.

4K Ultra HD and 3D video processing

  • Support for 4K Ultra HD video and HDR (High Dynamic Range) video means you can enjoy 4K content at an astonishing resolution of 3840 x 2160. That means detail is clearer and colours are richer, so watching TV will feel like you're looking through a window.
  • Support for 3D video gives you the option of connecting the receiver to a 3D TV. 3D content pops off the screen to bring depth and lifelike visual appeal to your favourite movies and shows.
  • Upscaling improves SD and HD to near 4K Ultra HD; you can even enjoy analog video to HDMI upconversion with 2 component video inputs. This gives you full compatibility with legacy SD and HD devices.
  • The receiver also supports HDCP 2.2 DRM copy protection, 4:4:4 pure colour sub-sampling, BT.2020 pass-through, and a 21:9 aspect ratio. You can have peace of mind that you're covered for the future of 4K and 3D.

Dolby Atmos and DTS:X multidimensional sound

  • Built-in Dolby Atmos processing is your ticket to immersive 3D surround sound, adding next-level precision and overhead channels into the mix, bringing you deeper into the experience.
  • DTS:X, like Dolby Atmos, allows sound designers to place sounds anywhere in a 3D acoustic space, creating a rich, enveloping, multidimensional experience.

Natural high-performance sound

  • Audyssey DSP features include MultEQ room acoustic measurement and correction. During the setup process, MultEQ measures speaker and subwoofer output, then applies correction filters to achieve the most natural tonal balance for your space.
  • Audyssey Dynamic Volume uses advanced DSP processing to provide a wide-band response, even when volume levels are low, producing theatre-calibre clarity for dialog.

Networking, streaming, and device connectivity

  • Built-in Wi-Fi lets you connect to your wireless home network and stream content from services such as Spotify and Sirius XM. All of your favourite tunes are a click away, presented in rich, crystal-clear surround sound.
  • Bluetooth, AirPlay, and DLNA 1.5 compatibility also let you stream content from a range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, and PCs. For added ease, the Denon Remote App lets you control the receiver with your smartphone or tablet, including Apple or Android devices.
  • 6 HMDMI inputs let you connect a full range of HD devices to your home theatre setup, including gaming consoles, cable boxes, Blu-ray players, and media players.

Required accessories (sold separately)

  • Cables you'll need: HDMI (to connect the receiver to your TV) and speaker wire (for connecting the receiver to your speakers)
  • Optional cables: optical or coaxial cables (for digital audio) and RCA cables (for connecting older gear)

Best Dolby Atmos Receiver (2016+) for the price!

Definitely not disappointed in this AVR. Just wait for the right time to buy it. The IOS app is easy to use, gives you the advantage of changing different audio modes, speaker settings and etc without interrupting your viewing on screen. Audyssey auto-calibration using the mic given was easy setting up. I don't like how the buttons on the remote is not glow in the dark, it is a huge draw back for dark viewing and I have to use the remote app on IOS.

DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT

I bought the AVR-S720W after looking for a Dolby Atmos enabled receiver. It seemed a good option for the features and price. I removed my 16 year old Yamaha receiver and plugged this unit. After turning the AVR-S720W I realized that "something" was missing from the music. Even my son told me that the new unit was lacking the punch of the old Yamaha. I somehow tweaked the audio settings to get it to sound better. I thought, "well, maybe all this is worth it". Then I plugged my Mac mini into the front HDMI port and I was unable to see on the screen the upper Mac OS X bar and the lower dock was cut at half. There was no way to correct this issue. I had to remove the Mac Mini from the AVR-S720W and had to connect it directly to the TV. Today I tried the Bluetooth option. I paired my iPad 4 to the AVR-S720W. Played Youtube videos and the lip sync was horrible. There was a 6 second delay between the video and music. The "Lip Sync" option for the AVR-S720W is limited to 500 ms, so there was no way to fix this. This same iPad 4 has been used with a 80 CAD Altec Lansing bluetooth speaker and there has been no sync issue. The unit will go back to Best Buy, it is simply not worth it. Also, you won't find in Denon's site any link with information to this unit. The link is empty: [removed link] Denon has replaced this unit with a new one: [removed link] So stay away from this AVR-S720W unit and get a newer one. This product looks cheap from every side. Interface, sound quality, bluetooth and video operation. Nothing works as it should. It is already up to date to the latest firmware.

big disappointment

Very disappointed in this receiver. We got it for an upconverting hdmi hub and it does work quite well for that. Unfortunately, the interface with the receiver is horrible. The volume up/down is ridiculously sensitive. Press up three times, you go up 1.5dB. Press it four, your go up 10dB. Press down one time and it goes back down 10dB. Total PITA. And that brings us to the Android app. I cannot speak to the IOS app, but the android is completely unusable. They even took it off the play store. Cannot connect 75% of the time, and if you do connect it takes 30 seconds to get one command to the receiver. I wanted to be able to use zone 2 to play outside music, but since the app is so unreliable it's completely useless....' Terribly disappointed with this receiver and I wish I bought something else....

deneon s720w good receiver

i got one on boxing day because my poor pioneer vx824 has died just after 2years warranty ,i m so mad at pioneer. honestly i dont see too much difference on sound quality, but the wireless and bluetooth connectivity is great and very stable.aslo usb compatibility is great. all the usb disks works easily although pioneer one doesnt suppot these usbs, very disspoint to pionneer again. after 3months play, although i like it so muchbir i still have some regrets, because i learned the channel power may not be matched perfectly to drive some highend speakers like polkaudiortia9 which is 500w per speaker. but i tested 200w polkaudioT600 which proves to be very solid and satisfied performance although im not sure if other hi amp can perform better. in overall it is a great product for audio receiver beginners.

Great receiver- horrible app

I'd give the receiver itself 4 stars based on sound quality for the price. Minus one star for the lack of pre out for Zone 2. Other similarly spec'd/priced receivers from competition have this. The app kills all happiness though...it is absolutely horrible and can't find the receiver 98% of the time... For some inexplicable reason- Denon decided to make a completely new app for their new receivers- one that is worse than useless...I have the latest firmware and the app is fully updated (march 2017) on my iphone- but it is is the worst app i've ever had the displeasure of using (or trying to use). I'm not alone- read the reviews on itunes. The few times i've actually had the app find and connect to the receiver- it works great, but even closing the app and trying to reopen it right away will cause the app to fail to find the receiver and you'll have to go and physically make volume adjustments etc. Not so convenient when the receiver is in the basement- while the zone you are playing music from is on the second floor of the house. If you plan on buying this to use with your iphone- DON'T. I also have a Denon x4100 in my house that connects perfectly using the old app. Based on that excellent receiver, I thought i'd be safe grabbing this s720- but unfortunately didn't have time to hook it up until my 30-day return window had passed. For background- i have several IP security cameras, and home automation running in my house- so i have some experience with network and tech. This is definitely a Denon issue- not user error. I love Denon- but will not be recommending them to anyone until this 'crappy app' issue is resolved.

Find another brand or avoid updating this one

I cannot tell you how disappointed I am in this product. I purchased it on sale from BB about three weeks ago and just got around to installing it today. Installation is like any receiver and can be a pain depending on your setup. First clue that I should have just returned this thing was when I opened the box and discovered a remote control and instruction packet for an Epson projector. Kept on going through the rest of the packaging and it seemed OK, so I figured just an honest mistake at the factory. Connected my PC to the receiver and it works but the my video card detects that the max resolution it can pass to the receiver is 1600x1200. This is supposed to be a 4K receiver. Again, I do some research and discover that it may be a conflict between my drivers, video card and receiver. So, OK, I'll investigate later. While unpacking the receiver, there is a large notice that says "If you want to use Pandora with this receiver, please perform an update.". I don't use Pandora, but like to keep things updated. Connect the ethernet cable, check the network setup, seems OK. Go to the setup menu, thanks to my Harmony remote, and select update. Now the receiver is a very expensive brick. It is stuck in an update loop. Apparently this is a very common occurrence with Denon receivers, I've found out. I called the 800 number provided on the box, before going back to BB, and apparently customers don't need service on holidays and the call centre is closed. Except that this (Feb 17, 2017) isn't a holiday in either the US or Canada. So, hoping that BB will take this back and exchange it or give me a store credit or something. A truly terrible experience with what should have been an otherwise good product. Please avoid this receiver and any other Denon product based on what I've read today. I know I will be going back to Sony, Yamaha, Pioneer, anyone except these jokers.

Great set of features for a good price

Really happy with this purchase. I have been doing research as to what brand/model to buy and this one ticked off all the boxes. All the HDMI ports support 4K and HDCP 2.2 (most others seem to only support that on one or two imputs) Audyssey made it very easy to set the setup dialed in. Even noticed that I had one set of speakers wired backwards (out of phase) Bluetooth worked smoothly from an iPAD and phone. Currently not using the ATMOS or the Zone 2 option but it's a nice little bit of futureproofing in the purchase. Firmware update added DTS:X support

Excellent Starting Receiver

I was hoping to find a 5.1 receiver but noticed this on sale for a similar price and I am very happy I went with it. The wireless capabilities are fantastic for streaming from my phone (I do not use spotify/pandora). I am by no means an audiophile, but the calibration tools were very easy to use, and the 6 HDMI inputs are very handy. It has a sleek look, and powers 7 speakers effortlessly (5 polk audio satellites, a sub, a and centre channel, as well as 2 polk towers, also purchased from best buy). I don't notice a huge difference in movie quality, even though it states upscaling to 4K, but I didn't buy for those properties, so it isn't a deal breaker for me. Overall extremely pleased, I don't think you can go wrong with this receiver. My intention was to start with 2 speakers and add on over time, and it is already proving its worth.

nice but issues

I had to return the first receiver. I bought this because of it has a zone 2 option. But some times the zone 2 does not work so you need to unplug the receiver and plug it in again. So I returned it and got another. But the problem is the same with the new one. There are a couple of other issues that annoy a little but I guess for the price it is what it is.

Denon AVR-S720W

Set up was easy. Sound is very good although not as powerful as I was hoping. Tons of great features and very good value for the price. I had some questions about pricing and misleading boxing day flyer which Best Buy was terrible in responding to and following up on. Denon AVR-S720W - 5 out of 5 Best Buy - 2 out of 5

Hope it will live up to its reputation

I am still working my way through all the thing it can do. Solar i am neutral (after one week). Some items I find that are not good are the Bluetooth from the iPad to the receiver has a serious synchronization problem. And I find that for movies on some channels the volume does not go high enough. Maybe I'll find the solutions someday. Stay tuned.

Disappointed

I purchased this receiver to update my older 7.2 Onkyo THX Receiver. I was surprised to hear that there wasn't much difference on even playing dolby atmos blu-rays. So I returned it.

Best AVR for less

I got this AVR on boxing day, although did not need one. I gave it a shot and i was amazed by this cute AVR. I had very expensive AVR but not close in every to this one. Loved it and keeping it in my entertainment room. It has all the things I need. Exceeded my expectation I recommend it to any body who wants the best for less.

Awesome sound & functionality

The best receiver I have ever had. Full functions, great to stream from any device. Sound is incredible, and I finally got my speakers balanced and working in the room (great sound quality test feature). Goodbye Sony, hello Denon! Easy to set up and reprogram my old Logitech remote to run all features.

Good deal - especially when on sale

This is a very capable receiver I bought to replace my aging 5.1 Denon. The sound quality is excellent. Set up with the included Audessey microphone is a breeze. Lots of options to play with - or just leave all the options at default and let it sort out the best levels. Some things I would have liked were more inputs, instead of relying on only HDMI. There are two TOSLINK optical inputs and one RCA digital input. Don't get caught into thinking it will play video from a DLNA server - it is only audio and photos. Luckily I already have a networked media player so wasn't relying on this. Using the Denon app on my Android phone is easy - but a bit of a gimmick. Certainly recommended especially when on sale!

Picked this up today after returning two higher priced onkyo tx nr 656 amps that had major problems. The denon hooked up so easy and was way more user friendly. I will stick with Denon

Great Receiver!!

Very pleased with my purchase of the Denon AVR-S720W. It was very easy to set up my speaker preferences with Audyssey. Great sound and ready for the future. I would very much recommend this receiver to anyone looking to upgrade their home system.

Excellent for the price

Upgraded from a 10 year old Sony receiver (Which has served me very very well in that time). Setup is child proof and not complicated at all. It walks you through everything including how to set up the wires in the back if this is your first time attempting such a thing. Using the microphone setup with the Audessey Multi EQ was painless and unobtrusive. The sound it uses isn't harsh on the ears like my Old sony which used extremely loud static to calibrate. My 11 month old was sleeping in the room right below the TV and she didn't wake up during it. Now to the sound quality. Highs are clear without being harsh or unduly sharp, vocals aren't lost in music or sound effects even at low volumes. Bass is a solid punch now instead of loud dull thumping. I haven't changed a single thing besides the receiver; and it's made all the difference in the world. I'm sure other receivers in this class are as good, however with the reviews I read, Denon has some of the best sound quality for movies/tv and the calibration is the second to none. The calibration was very accurate for distance and sound. All in all I'm very impressed. If I had one thing to nit pick, it's that there's no paper instruction manual. just the quick start guide and setup. The full manual is online only. (At least that I've seen.)

Good value

Easy to setup, nicely featured. Power is overrated. My 12 yr old harman Larson avr 330 is much more powerful and sounds equally well, but lacks modern features and interfaces.
