ecobee3 HomeKit-Enabled Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat (EB-STATe3c-02)

  • Model #: EB-STATe3c-02
  • Web Code: 10382442
  • Release Date: 07-07-2015

Keep your home cozy with the ecobee3 smart thermostat. Rather than measuring temperature where the thermostat is, ecobee3 uses wireless remote sensors to measure occupancy and temperature to deliver better comfort in the rooms that matter most. It knows when to turn the heat up or down based on your home's energy profile and the weather outside.

More Information

Is it cold in here? Before you can even reach the thermostat your ecobee3 has already kicked your heater into high gear. This smart thermostat uses remote sensors to make sure the rooms you use the most are always the right temperature. It learns your home's energy profile and, taking into account the weather outside, intuitively knows when to turn on your heating or cooling system.

ecobee3 keeps track of your comings and goings as the remote sensors know if someone is home and which rooms are occupied. And when you're not at home ecobee3 saves energy, which is good for your wallet and even better for the environment. And while you're away you can always control the temperature in your home from your smartphone, tablet, or PC. So on those cold winter days you can crank up the heat in your home to make sure it's nice and toasty when you arrive.

What you need to know:

Smart sensors: ecobee3 remote sensors figure out which rooms you use the most and make sure those rooms are always the right temperatures. It comes with a free remote sensor and can support up to 32 more.

Save up to 23% on your energy bill: Heating and cooling represent 40 to 70 percent of your home energy costs. To help you automatically save more of that money, ecobee3 uses advanced energy-saving algorithms that consider thousands of data points such as outdoor weather, whether you are home or not, and your home's unique energy profile. For example, ecobee3 can automatically turn down your heating or cooling when it detects that no one is home. An analysis of ecobee owners estimated that the average ecobee owner saves 23 percent annually on their heating and cooling costs versus leaving their thermostat on hold at 22.2 degrees Celsius.

Problem solving: With the remote sensors ecobee3 reads temperature in different rooms, measuring for uneven temperatures in the rooms that matter most.

Easy to install and use: Meticulously designed for easy use, ecobee3 offers an 8.9cm (3.5 inch) full-colour LCD touchscreen with highly intuitive iconography and controls. If you're comfortable installing a light fixture, you can install ecobee3 yourself. And if you'd rather use a professional installer, visit ecobee's website for help finding one.

Comfort year-round: ecobee3 intuitively understands when to turn on your heating or cooling based on your home's unique energy profile and the weather outside.

Reliable Powering Method: Wired 24VAC through terminals C and either Rh or Rc.

Anytime, anywhere: Adjust your ecobee anytime, anywhere, on your smartphone, tablet, or computer. ecobee3 offers hundreds of integration possibilities on platforms such as SmartThings and Wink.

HomeKit-enabled: It works directly with Apple's home automation framework and lets you control ecobee3 with compatible iOS devices.

HVAC system compatibility: ecobee3 is compatible with the following systems: conventional (2H/2C); heat pump (4H/2C) including 2-stage auxiliary heat; gas, oil, and electric; dual fuel support; and humidifier, dehumidifier, ventilator, HRV, or ERV.

Connectivity and security: ecobee3 protects data during transmission and network access, and is designed to support: WiFi at 915MHz; WiFi 802.11 b/g/n at 2.4 GHz; WEP 64, WEP 128, WPA, and WPA2 encryption methods; DHCP (dynamic) or static IP addressing; and 168-bit SSL encryption.

good one

this is good to try as have remote sensors.

Love my bee.

This thermostat is an amazing product. It took me perhaps three months of reading reviews and making notes to decide on which thermostat to buy, and I think I have make the correct decision. This is the only smart thermostat out that that can accurately keep temperatures between rooms and floors somewhat consistent, due to the remote sensors. Now you can have it comfortable in the room or area you are in! I did run an additional wire to connect the thermostat, but in our case this was an easy task. Gas company provided a rebate, making it easy. Perhaps one of the best purchases in a long time. I think of the big name smart thermostats on the market, this one is the best choice.

Easy installation and configuration

App-guided installation with videos for each step was excellent. Included Power Extender Kit allowed full functionality even though I didn't have C Wire. Easy to program, on unit or via app/web. Very happy with my purchase!

Just get it

My only regret is not getting this sooner. If you have forced air heat and central AC, just get it. Now. Easy to install and configure. Once it's working, just leave it alone and it does its thing. The online analytics put commercial building automation systems to shame.

Bought this to replace a Honeywell unit. Couldn't be happier! Got the set with 2 extra sensors (3 in total). Functions really well, quite neat how it adjusts to where you are located instead of assuming the temp around the base unit all the time. Hoping to see some cost savings on my gas bills too!

Plenty of features and easy to use interface for a Smart Thermostat

I had a few installation problems getting it to work with my GeoThermal Heat Pump, but Mega the technical support was incredibly patient and knowledgeable. She worked with me on the phone until we got it working, which made the long wait in the phone queue well work the wait. One of the key reasons I purchased it was because it is one of a few smart thermostats that integrates with the Apple HomeKit. The integration is good but could be better. If only the Applye HomeKit app could honor the temperature format with the eccobee app (i.e. eccobe App is configured to use Fahrenheit, however Apple HomeKit App shows in Celcius). I also feel that there could be a little more consistency in the various user interfaces (iPhone, iPad, web). It wasn't very intuitive on how to register the ecobee to Homekit. I was only able to do it via my iPhone, but not on my iPad.

  • from Mississauga, ON

Love it!

Like Tim said, the selling points, after much research, were the remote sensors and the fact it's Canadian! Have to support what we have left in Canada. Installation was not easy since the installers of my furnace and A/c used many different wires changing colours many times. Ecobee support was awesome staying on the phone for a couple of hours while we mapped out every change in wire colour. Even though I had a C wire we used the PEK instead of the Honeywell device. Once that was done the Ecobee came up with no issues. My daughter's room (put a sensor there) now has a much more consistent temperature higher than it was with the Honeywell. The follow me feature is awesome. Can't wait for the reports to become available. Recommend it - absolutely. Ecobee support - best I've ever had.

  • from Toronto, ON

Love this thermostat so far. Easy to setup, well documented and good how to videos and CDN

I love that the Ecobee more closely follows open standards than say the Nest. I love that it's a Canadian company. I found the installation to be very easy with easy, well documented instructions but even better are the videos by chapter. Very well thought out for customer support. I love how easy I can control it with my iPhone and how the interface is the same as the device as my phone. It was very easy to add the additional sensors and give them unique names to match the room they're in. I'm eagerly awaiting to see if it will translate into energy cost reductions to justify the cost versus a much cheaper Wifi enabled device.

Home work paid off

Before I decided to buy Ecobee3, I did a lot of research on different brands. Ecobee3 is the best but wire connection is a challenge. After doing a lot study on the wiring, the actual installation was like a breeze. Only thing that took me some time to make it working is weather forecast. The location setting is a little bit tricky. Once it is set up, everything works great. I like the history data from system monitoring function which helps you to understand how temperature and humility from indoor and outdoor change along the time.

  • from Toronto, ON

Great product!

Ecobee3 is a no-brainer when upgrading from a traditional (non-smart) programmable thermostat. My townhome is 3 stories and doesn't heat each floor evenly. The remote sensors give you the control and flexibility to set to rooms that are being occupied or a selected average. The thermostat interface, mobile app and website is well designed and easy to use. Lots of data & options to optimize the heating / cooling for your home. It's made a noticeable improvement in comfort for me. Time will tell if there's cost savings as well. Highly recommend! Tip: if unsure about your existing wiring compatibility with Ecobee, contact their support team prior to buying for an assessment.

Easy enough for my wife to use

It took perhaps 45 minutes to install, and has been in operation now for over ten months. I wanted to wait for at least one winter and summer before writing a review. It does what a thermostat is supposed to do -- keep things cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Having the additional sensor is great and the auto fan feature does help level out the temperature throughout the house. My wife likes the ability to quickly and easily adjust the temperature through the slide, and even though I thought the outside weather was a bit of a gimmick at first, I find myself using this almost every day.

  • from Calgary, AB

great thermostat

I bought this smart thermostat over the others because it was the easiest to hook up with a 2 wire central humidifier. It didn't require any additional wiring or relay. The additional sensor has proven to be a great idea even though I don't have zones and use a central forced air system. I set it up to average out the temperature between the sensors. This has been better than I thought. The downstairs is not so cold. When we have the fireplace on in the living room, we can easily disable that sensor so the furnace will still turn on so the rest of the house doesn't get cold.

Great thermostat! Allows you to control temperature from anywhere with the app.

Great Product

Great Product by Ecobee. The user friendly console and ease of install makes it stand out. Remote monitoring energy savings and the rebate with Enbridge really makes it very economical!

Update on my last review

It is actually not a bug, but a feature, after chatting with support team. Take back my last review. They just need to do better function naming and explaination. ( to Bestbuy team: If the reviews are filtered manually, can you please delete my two reviews together?)

Our House Has More Than One Room - The Remote Sensors are the Killer Feature

There are many options now in the connected thermostat realm today, so when I wanted to upgrade our 7-day programmable thermostat, some research was needed. The Ecobee 3 stood out from the rest primarily with the remote sensors, but also because it is Canadian eh! ;-) Seriously, the sensors are the strong point and likely your deciding factor as all other offerings do everything else the Ecobee and likewise. Wink integration is fairly well done also, and that includes the sensors. The sensors detect motion and temperature in other areas of your house and use this information in two ways. Are you home? Yes, turn on the heat/ac, no, turn it off. Are you in the basement and it is colder there? Yes, turn up the heat and bring up the average temperature to make the basement more comfortable. These Smart Home/Away and Follow Me features are what sets the Ecobee apart and had me getting a second sensor 2 pack to cover all the important rooms in the house. Ecobee support and continuous improvement is also well done. Last winter my sensors were reporting occupancy when no one was in the house, thus making the sensors useless and effectively making the Ecobee an expensive programmable thermostat. The bug was identified and while they didn't squash it before the end of winter, a new firmware is in place now and everything works as advertised.

Great Thermostat with sensors

Love the way the thermostat monitors occupancy to have the temperature at the levels requested. Very easy to use and Apple HomeKit compatible. Also allows you to see your data and compare it to others while other thermostats hide that data.

  • from Milton, ON

Elegant design and very clever

The ecobee3 looks great on the wall, and is far smarter than the old smart thermostat it replaced. I really like the Lil Bee sensors, as our house warms and cools based on where we are. We had a 4 wire system, and the supplied adapter installed easily in the furnace, making it compatible. Having the weather forecast available at the touch of an icon is a nice bonus. Plus my kid thinks its cool.

The best smart thermostat today

The best on the market today in my opinion. Pros: - easy to install even by people with very little skill. It is compatible with older setups, where a C wire is not needed as it comes with a conversion kit. - connectivity works great, never had an issue. - easy to use interface, lots of custom options. - the remote sensor is a nice addition, I wish it had more than one, but they can be bought separately. - Canadian company with Canadian based customer service who are actually knowledgeable. - it looks good! Cons: - none I can think of except for price. Compared to the competition, I pick this as being the winner, as the strong points of the others are kind of useless. The geofencing is not that great, unless you live by yourself, and the learning feature only works is your schedule never changes. But if you have 2 or more people in the house, and not a regimented schedule, then the others can be eliminated by default.

So easy to use!

I bought this for my new place out of curiosity, after doing much research I found the ecobee3 to be the best option for a larger home. Installation was a breeze as the cell phone app guided me through the whole installation with videos and diagrams. I am impressed with the level of access it offers and the ability to access the thermostat from anywhere in the world via app or website. In addition the little sensors helped me to tweak the air vents so that the house is evenly warm. Would definitely purchase again.

Works Great

I bought the Ecobee3 on the recommendation of a friend. My wife and I installed it and we needed the extra power wire at the furnace because we didn't have the common wire needed it to power it. No problem. It worked fine immediately. The display on the unit works just fine despite what other people would indicate and the Siri interface seems to interpret commands pretty reliably. A pleasant surprise was that the unit will switch on the furnace fan to circulate air in the house if the AC or heating has not been required for a while. The unit will kick heating or cooling on if the air temp varies half a Celsius degree. The sensor upstairs works very well. Altogether we are 100 percent satisfied.

  • from Toronto, ON

more than happy

I just installed this unit my self last week, and I have started to love it. now like it even more after realizing its Canadian too. the temperature of two floors in my house is always about 2 degrees apart and it was always a problem since it picked up the temp of my lobby where the main thermostat was installed. now thanks to the satellite thermostat we don't have that problem. changing from an old mercury unit I feel more comfortable and temp seems more accurate. installation was a breeze too. from the way my hvac works with it I feel like I will save more than 25%

Samll footprint

Great little thermostat. I love how it was REALLY easy to install and how small a footprint it has. I like being able to monitor and adjust the temperature remotely from my cellphone. Only one kink though, wifi access was lost quite often at the beginning but now seem to have stabilized, after I took it off the wall a few times (albeit too many times). Would recommend! Edit (July 8, 2016) - after owning this thermostat for a month, I have to say I really enjoy having it. My house is overall more comfortable (the room sensor works great). Wifi hasn't been dropped since when reported at the beginning so it's been reliable when I need to access it from the app remotely.

Cool Thermostat that Works as Advertised

The EcoBee3 works exactly as advertised. My home is large (5,300 square feet) and the Thermostat is downstairs near the kitchen. As a result, setting the thermostat to a temperature that works good for the whole house, as well as for the bedrooms at night is tough. Now that I have the EcoBee3, I can have the temperature I want, where I want it. The wireless sensor works from a surprisingly far distance too! I also appreciate being able to control the thermostat from my phone. Some nights, I wake up feeling hot and I just want it a little cooler than normal. All I have to do now is pickup my phone, set it a little cooler and go back to sleep. The bill credit with Enbridge is icing on the cake!

worst piece of technology

I bought this piece of technology just because it was made by a canadian company. Bought it installed it, was pretty easy to install, the touch screen is not that great, but when i got my bill found out that instead of saving money i ended up spending more in my monthly bill. The wifi connection is really weak, it connects and disconnects quite often even though my router is in the next room to it. All in all i ended up realizing that i wasted my money. Tried cotacting customer service but without much success. I wont reccomend it to anyone. I am looking into another solution.

Great product but beware hookup and tech support...

I installed this system over the winter and it was pretty easy even when I had to hook up an additional wire for power (it was already in the house wire bundle, just not hooked up because the previous thermostat didn't need it since it ran on battery power). Heating was fine all winter. Now that we have hit a heat wave, I switched it to AC mode and ... nothing. This is a new house to us from last summer and the old thermostat ran the AC fine so I was pretty sure that the AC equipment was OK. I double checked the fuse at the circuit panel in the house and the fuse by the AC machine outside... all fine. I called Ecobee support in the morning, left a msg to call back, played phone tag with them and didn't get to talk to a tech person until 8pm. We've been suffering in the heat (30 - 33 deg C in the house) for over 2 days now. Because we couldn't get a hold of Ecobee, I called a local HVAC technician in and we figured out that the wiring behind the Ecobee thermostat had the R wire hooked up to Rh as per the manual (worked fine for heating) but it should have been to Rc (the diagram on p.29 says to hook it up Rh). When I ran the original diagnostics, it didn't say anything was wrong. AC works fine now but I had to pay a technician to come out to help me figure out why the Ecobee thermostat wouldn't tell the AC to start. When I did get to talk to an Ecobee technician, he told me to change my settings configurations from 'Rh and Rc' to 'Rc only'.... NONE OF THIS WAS COVERED IN THE MANUAL OR THE ORIGINAL DIAGNOSTICS! This is different than what is identified on the conventional heating and cooling hookup page. A simple note to hook up to Rc instead or to have the diagnostics check that there isn't a jumper wire between Rh and Rc then to prompt me to change the settings accordingly would have been great and saved my family insane heat and the cost of a tech to come out to figure out what's going on. When I asked Ecobee for some help to pay for the technician bill, they flatly refused. Not cool! Just thought you should know who you're dealing with before you spend hundreds of dollars on a thermostat.

Amazing little bee

This thermostat is top notch. Installed it withing half hour and it was up and running in no time. everything you need to install this unit is in the box and does not need any third party companies to come in. Great Job ecobee.

Excellent product

I've owned an ecobee3 for a little over a year now and couldn't be happier. Like most people looking for a smart thermostat, I first looked at the Nest but after reading some reviews I was concerned with only having one occupancy sensor that I can't really place in a high traffic area. If you want your thermostat to go to away mode when you're not at home, the remote sensors are awesome. They also make it a lot easier to customize and fine tune your comfort level by selecting which remote sensors you want the thermostat to include in a comfort setting. For example, at night my thermostat only uses bedroom temperature reading and in the morning I include the main floor sensor. I also really like the reporting feature that is included in the app. Gives you a lot of insight into when your heat or AC is turning in, where the hot/cool spots are in your house, etc in order to customize your schedule for maximum efficiency. Customer service is also very good, in particular if you need help installing or configuring your thermostat.

It Just Works!

I don't have to do anything (apart from the initial setup). It knows when we're home, when we're away, and just works. I have saved a few hundred dollars in the past 2 years since installing it - it has paid for itself!

Smartest thermostat on the block

I purchased my ecobee3 five months ago shortly after the birth of our second daughter. Home automation has been super handy when you're held hostage by a newborn. Need the thermostat turned up from upstairs, no problem. Moving to a different part of the house that's usually colder, no problem. The room sensors is what sold me on ecobee3 instead of Nest. It works exactly as advertised although setup was a bit tricky since I didn't have a C-wire. Aside from calling ecobee to help set up my HVAC wiring in the basement, installing the actual thermostat was a breeze. My other small complaint is the delayed update on the room sensors status. It will say a room is unoccupied for about 5 min. after I've occupied a room. The same goes for when I've left the room. It would be great if these sensors could be used as a trigger on IFTTT to turn on my Lutron Caseta lights. Perhaps in a future firmware update?

Amazing Customer Service and Product

I compared all Smartstat reviews (specially Nest vs Ecobee) and by reading many horrible Nest reviews, decided to go with Ecobee and I'm glad I made the right decision. - The extra sensors (One extra sensor comes with the package and I bought the extra sensor packs on sale at best buy) concept is amazing. Ecobee can follow my movement and take average of the motion detected sensor to set the temparature. Ecobee also sets to Home and Away mode automatically if it detects motion or does not detect motion for a period of time. - I had a bit of trouble installing it initially. But called the customer service and received amazing service for installation assistance. - Use of IFTTT protocol: Most people are not aware that Ecobee supports IFTTT protocol. So, you can setup auto Away to Home or Home to Away mode based on your smartphone/fitband location as well. I even setup a motion detection notification. If Ecobee detects any motion while I'm away, it sends me a notification. This helps me to understand when my wife is getting back home and I call her to make sure. There are other benefits which I will try to update later. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with the product. Ecobee has shown what a true smart thermostat should be.

  • from Toronto, ON

Horrible Customer Service

I had a Nest for 3 years and loved it. I moved and had to buy another thermostat. Decided to give the Ecobee a try, as it has the ability to add sensors. The interface and app are not as great as the Nest. I can live with it, for better functionality. We've used the Ecobee for two months and all of a sudden it keeps disconnecting to the WiFi, and not reconnecting automatically. Every time, we have to reset it (by unplugging it from the wall). We call customer service and after a long time trying to understand the issue, the rep suggests that we leave the thermostat connect to a hotspot on our cell phone to see if the problem is really the thermostat. Really?? That's the suggestion? That I use god knows how much data from my plan and don't leave the house until the issue happens again? After some discussion, the rep decides to offer us a replacement unit, but threatens us that if the issue happens again, they will not help us. Should have bought another Nest.

Excellent product!

I love my ecobee3 Smart Thermostat. I wanted a smart WiFi enabled thermostat and I chose the ecobee3 vs the others (primarily the Nest) based on the ecobee3 reviews, remote sensors and aesthetics. It had to work well on my iPhone. Being marketed on helped my decision. Upon opening the package I was impressed about the quality of the components, thoughtfulness of the packaging & the concise instructions (which includes their online presence). I had a very basic thermostat and unfortunately had no C wire. I decided I can just pull a new thermostat cable using the existing cable. Fortunately, my furnace wasn't that far from horizontally from the thermostat and where the cable enters the basement from the main floor was somewhat unfinished. The ecobee3 just works and is easy to setup & use. And it looks great! The iPhone app is intuitive and behaves just like the ecobee3 touchscreen. I like how the remote sensor can be mounted on its stand or stuck to a vertical surface. And the ease of adding more sensors. Very satisfied with my purchase!

Ecobee3 vs Nest (Ecobee3 Wins)

I recently purchased an Ecobee3 after having a Nest 2nd Generation thermostat for just over a year. In my opinion, The Ecobee3 is a superior product to the Nest Thermostat in many areas. The additional room sensors help to balance the temperature of the house by averaging the temperatures of 4 areas of the house. Couple that with the fantastic GUI (graphical user interface) which provides great detailed usage statistics of the system and an easy to use app, hands down better than the Nest it replaced.

  • from Toronto, ON

Needs work

First of all, this thermostat is GREAT when it works. I have it for a month and I would say everything that you see on the other reviews, just a great product. However, there is one basic flaw in this product: reliability. The remote sensor will lose connectivity randomly, regardless of the distance to the thermostat. In my case, I have 3 sensors but I only use one at night (sleep schedule), which is the one on the kids bedroom... the coldest room in the house. So I set that t be 21C at night. Ecobee holds that temperature beautifully all night, until it loses connection to the sensor. Eventually it reconnects, but during that time, it is looking at the thermostat temperature, which in other hand is on the hottest spot of the house. Therefore the temperature in the kids bedroom keeps falling as the furnace doesn't kick in. In summary, do a research on "ecobee remote sensor disconnect", I'm definitely not the only one experiencing this issue. The worst part is that these are totally random disconnects. PS: all three sensors have disconnected at some point in time. Totally randomly and very sporadic (e.g. twice a week). So it is not "bad luck" with one particular sensor. Too bad, because other than this issue I really like the product.

Best Smart Thermostat on the Market

I'm just so impressed with every facet of this product. I bought it on Black Friday when you got 2 additional sensors thrown in. My house is about 3400 sq. ft. with 2 levels + a finished basement. Even with another competitors smart thermostat, temperatures on the different floors were all over the place. We used to set the temperature in the evening 3 degrees colder than desired to sleep comfortably because the smart thermostat is on the main floor in a room we are rarely in. We were very cold on the main floor but comfortable in bed. All of that is gone now. This thermostat has our house very comfortable on every floor. It was amazingly simple to set up - even though I had to use the provided adapter to create a virtual C wire. I added 2 additional sensors (total of 5 in the house) and the more sensors you have the more comfortable the house is. Best purchase in a long time. The best smart thermostat on the market - I have tried the other big name one - the ecobee3 is far superior. Great product!!!

  • from Halifax, NS

Definitely will save me money in the long run

I installed the Ecobee 3 for this winter, and it works great. I have a 3 zone - 3 floor house, but the thermostat in the upstairs is in the hallway while the hot water baseboards are in the bedrooms. The result is hot bedrooms, a cold thermostat (hallway), and lots of oil burned for no reason. Ecobee 3 was the perfect fix for this -- the remote sensor is in the main bedroom sending the temperature to the thermostat. The baseboards can then be adjusted to heat each other room slightly faster than the room with the sensor (you can do this with forced air vents too by adjusting the louvers). For 2 wire systems like mine -- the simplest fix was to add a 120v-24v (doorbell) transformer to the power line sharing the same wall cavity as the thermostat. Run these wires to the Ecobee 3 as "C" and "Rc". Works like a charm. You don't need to use the motion sensor feature if you don't want pets to trigger "Home" (turn on heat). You can manually configure Home and Away and Sleep settings for different temperatures -- you can add multiple "Home" settings (for example) so heat is higher a different times of the day.

The Ecobee3 has the best installation and user manual I have ever seen. Everything worked just as it should. Easy installation and setup. Contacting Tech Support was a pleasure. The wait was short and the personnel very helpful and knowledgeable. The Ecobee3 itself worked exactly as advertised. Accurate, great wifi, lots of information, and it looks great. I recommend the unit and the company very highly.

Works like a chain

I have installed a brand new two stage furnace last month and I wanted a nice thermostat along with it's I went and bought Nest third gen and Ecobee3 I have been switching these 2 thermostats back-and-forth for 1 week trying to figure out which one works better which one to keep and which one to return. Nest has definitely beautiful design easy to use easy install and easy to program but when it comes doing the job ecobee3 is a clear winner when running nest hi stage on my furnace kicked in almost every time for about four or five minutes before the temperature reaches it set point with nest furnace turns on less often but it runs longer because nest let's the temperature dropped 1 or 2° below set point for example if you set up a temperature at 77° nest does not call the Furnace for heat until the temperature drops 76 or 75° and the temperature in the house was not accurate because nest stops the furnace when it reaches the temperature. 1° above setpoint When I was running ecobee the furnace was running more often but staying on less and secondly (high) stage rarely kicks in the temperature was more accurate in the house with ecobee but remember I have also purchased the sensors separately which they are additional almost one hundred dollars.

Best thermostat on the market PERIOD

Purchased this thermostat online got it few days later and turned out to be defected I contacted ecobee support they send me another one the very next day Took about 20 minutes to install it and once you set it forget it this thing just works if you're looking for smart thermostat look no further this is the one you should get don't bother buying nest which can never keep the temperature accurate I am saying so because I own nest for years and I know how it works and thats Y I switched.

Great, User-Friendly Product

I decided to purchase the Ecobee3 over the Nest (3rd generation) because of its use of additional room sensors. As brand new home owners, my wife and I had a hard time installing it, but that's only because the thermostat we were replacing was approximately 70 years old and only had 2 wires. The customer support team at Ecobee were very helpful and recommended a product to add a C wire (the addition provided by Ecobee wouldn't work with our antiquated wiring). Once we figured all that out, the thermostat came to life and was incredibly easy to set up. It's a dream being able to control the heat remotely, and the "Home", "Away", and "Sleeping" presets make managing the temperature a piece of cake. We're very pleased with this purchase, and it would be cool to see Ecobee expand their product line.

Best smart thermostat

Purchased this product about 9 months ago. Reason why I purchased it instead of Nest are as follows: - The remote sensors provide greater control over home temperature and occupancy. Instead of being limited to 1 reading, the thermostat uses multiple readings from the various remote sensors to average out the temperature throughout the house. Remote sensors can also be placed in more optimal locations. - The Home IQ reports are extremely detailed, allowing you to easily look back at any point in the past to see what the temperature was in the room, what the thermostat was set to, what the humidity was, outdoor temp, room occupancy, etc. This makes it very easy to tweak your schedule. - Ecobee is a small Canadian company with excellent support. Overall, I've been very happy with this purchase and strongly recommend it.

Great product but sensors need improvement

Overall a great product, works exactly as described, but needs improvement. The sensors have a time delay and do not refresh fast enough to reflect real time. It will say our room is unoccupied even when I am walking around in there. It will say a room is occupied 10 minutes after leaving it.

Works very well so far!

Love the homekit addition and thermostat itself is pretty neat, I have a house with multiple floors so the sensors make sense to average out tempreature. Way better than Nest and has no issues that people have reported on Nest. So far the ecobee is a dream! Love the geofencing and the Siri functions with Apple Homekit.

Great thermostat. Great if you have an older system without a C wire. The Power extender kit (PEK) comes included and takes a few mins to set up. Install took about 45 mins (including PEK set up). Easy to program and easy to use. Would highly recommend to anyone interested in having a smart thermostat.
