Hussain Luaibi No computer expert lol (device works great)

He uses words to describe tech that no computer expert or even geek would ever use. If your using Netflixs you going to use a fair bit of bandwidth but no more then you would if you ised it on any other device. Otherwise if your streaming on your local network say from a plex server for example its not going online or in laymen's terms no bandwidth. The device works exactly as advertised and for the most part flawlessly. Its not perfect as it as it not going to be outputting DTS or Dolby digital but for 45 dollars what you certainly getting you moneys worth. Simple to use and great for anyone who hasn't got a smart tv or wants to stream to a device like a projector or monitor. Oh and i been in the computer industry for over 40 years and iam still laughing at the stuff he said. He a computer expert and iam the pope lol.

Bad Quality

These things are not built to last. If they were around $20 that would be more reasonable but at [price] it's overpriced trash! I left mine plugged into my TV since purchase and I go to use it the other day and it gets a solid red light indicating a failure. Thing was just over a year old and I only used it maybe 4-5 times. Google offers typical 1 year warranty on their own junk.

Amazing product

I like it, makes your normal tv into a smart one. Can easily stream from any app with cast feature. I downloaded the tv & video cast for chromecast and i can easily watch and stream videos from almost every website. This product is A great buy. I used to have a sony internet player with google tv but i ended up selling it. This chromecast is by far better at an affordable price.

Best casting device

Works better than ever and faster streaming. The original was nice but this one is great , those HD movies stream without bufferring if you have good router Just wish it did not need a router but direct like microsoft wireless display adapter

AMAZING!!

To all who complain about connection issues or that you need "super fast internet" to use this, you are very wrong, first: you need an updated router that broadcasts at at a least 2.4ghz, ultimately, a 5g dual channel router works best. it doesn't require an internet connection, and two: it just requires you to be connected to a NETWORK, and that the router on that network is fast enough to stream. if you have an old slow router then you will get signal drop outs and disconnections. this can be remedied by lowering the resolution that the chromecast broadcasts at , which is defaulted to HD, hence the disconnections. So if you're too cheap the update your network, then that is your solution. but if you are streaming content, you need a good router folks, it's 2016, time to update or forget about using any of these neat new streaming toys. Streaming uses a lot of bandwidth, and the higher the resolution, the higher the bitrate and higher the bandwidth required. So if this doesn't work for you, then it;s not the chromecast, it;s you, and your gear.

Flaky

Google cast requires a bunch of wifi network changes to properly work, some of them cause issues with other wifi streaming products I own. Would be great if Google stuck to making there device work with the default settings most wifi routers use for every other wifi application. Also the price is pretty low so not a big deal, but the 1st generation device I owned stopped working completely when Google updated the casting app. Spent more than 20 hours going over the various config possibilities and changes to my devices, to my wifi router, updating apps on my phone, etc etc etc with Google Supports help and it still did not work so I bought this new one. My expectation is that this new one will be turned into a brick when the next generation comes out as well. If it doesn't then I will be pleasantly surprised and not as ticked off as I was the first time it happened.

Why didnt i have this long ago!!

This is the best product for streaming your Digital Media straight to your TV via any mobile device, so easy to set up and even easier to use. Works exactly as described. I keep asking myself why i hadnt had it sooner than now! Highly recommended for all ages. Perfect with all my apple devices

Can't cast most of the time

The initial set-up was simple, and within 15 minutes, I was able to set up the device, download the apps, and start casting youtube and bloomberg from my iphone. Then, problems started coming, 1. After casting youtube for a while, the youtube app loses connection to the chromecast device, so if you want to cast a new video, you just can't play it onto TV. 2. After a few days usage, none of the apps can connect to the device anymore, even after I unplug & plug the device, restart my apps, reconnect my phone to the wireless network. None seemed helpful. 3. If you want to cast a Chrome tab onto your TV, your laptop will need to be on the same wireless network, which means you will have to give up on the ethernet connection first. That means that your desktop computer would not work unless it uses wireless internet connection, and also that you will suffer from the connection problem again.

Waste of Money

I've been using a1st generation Chromecast for over a year now. My 1st one failed after 6 months and the replacement one has finally died about 15 after the original purchase date. I'm not impressed and wouldn't waste my money investing in something that doesn't last.

Very easy to set up, great picture quality, speed, etc. There is also third party software that will extend the functionality beyond Netflix, YouTube, etc. Saved me from buying a Smart TV.

Good buy

I got both Apple TV and Google Cast. Comparing the two, I found Google Cast a better choice: Pros - Fast connect between tablet (iPad & Android smartphone) and TV - Set up in no time - Save tablet and smartphone battery as program will play till the end even when smart device turn off - Need very little space, the device is hung at the back of my tv with one end plug to HDMI and the other to USB for charging, no need to connect to power at all Cons - Only black color is available, I prefer red.

Awesome product!!!

It was on sale so decided to grab one for my mom since I've only heard rave reviews from friends and family. Ran into some setup issues, not sure if it was router related but eventually got it up and running smooth. Now my mom can stream directly from her tablet/phone.

Works exactly as described

First off, I'm a techno idiot and I had no issue setting it up on my tv as well as through the home stereo receiver to take advantage of surround sound. It works for anything local on my computer as well as online streaming. Whenever there's a hiccup, I find it's always my fault.

Works as described. Seems, eats some internet traffic, even when the TV is off; partially solved by powering the device via the TV's USB.

Google Chromecast II

During set up, I had some problems but I called Chromecast support (who were excellent) and discovered that the Chromecast cord must be plugged directly into an outlet rather than a power bar. There was smooth sailing after that. it works like a charm. Highly recommend.

Works very well

To complete my set up, I created a Plex Media Player on a Virtual Machine. I installed BubbleUPnP Server too to convert a whack of video files to Chromecast. For an additional 4.87 CAN, I bought the BubbleUPnP license for my Smart Device. Ideally, the license would sit on the Server but it doesn't. This means each Smart Device needs its own license. But for 4.87 CAN, it is worth it.

Google ChromeCast is a nice product for its price

Everything was smooth except connecting it to my Bell modem/router. Then I discovered that it requires 5GHz wifi and my old Bell modem/router only had 2.4GHz wifi. I had to use my own router with 5GHz wifi to connect this Google ChromeCast to the Internet. Both YouTube and Netflix worked beautifully on it but the screen share with my Samsung Galaxy S4 is not smooth. Overall I am very happy with product.

Great Product and I was able to install without any problem ! Seam less streaming and no interruption at all. If some users are having difficulties then please read the instructions carefully or check your internet connection and signals as I don't see any problem in streaming videos.

Love mine!

My brother got me a chromecast for christmas 2 years ago, and I literally can't live without it. Before I would always have to connect cords from my laptop to my TV (which was a pain in the a**) to stream my shows and movies, such as netflix, CTV, MTV, etc. Now all I do is connect from my tablet. It's great and I can bring it anywhere with my tablet to watch at my boyfriends or friends house!

Google Chromecast

For $45 you can expect too much from this device like most of the bad reviews on here! But for that price point it works very well for what I want it to do. I bought this mainly just to stream youtube videos easily to the TV. Which it does extremely well from my android phone or tablet. I also use Redbull TV a lot on it as well. Both of those apps have a chromecast display icon built into them so it works flawlessly. I haven't tried using my computer. But you can also just screen share from your android device and it shows anything you are looking at on the tv. Setting up was fast and easy. Streaming content is fast and the picture and sound are both clear. It just works well doing the few things I bought it for. Now its not an Apple TV or a mini PC type of substitute. and at $45 you cant expect it to compete with these items. It simply helps turn any TV with an HDMI connection into a smart TV and lets you access Youtube, netflix ect if you TV doesnt already.

Good streaming option

I got this product about three weeks ago and so far I've used it to steam from Netflix, Shomi, and Google Movies. It has worked well for all of these platforms. It was pretty easy to set up, and once you get used to it, it's easy to use (you have to learn where the "cast" button is in each of your apps... it's a little different in each). No problems so far with lags or syncing. The image quality has been great. The only sort of weird thing I have noticed is that it seems to cast sound at a lower volume that other options. I usually have the have the volume on my phone as well as the volume on the TV set quite high. So when I switch to using something other than the chrome (or even to using other media on my phone) I have to remember to turn it back down again. Also, it can be a little hard on my phone's battery because it uses it to facilitate the streaming. But I haven't noticed it being that big a problem. My biggest wish is that there were some way to easily connect headphones. I also have a Roku 3 and I love that you can plug headphones into the remote. If headphones would work in my phones jack with the chrome, I'd be a very happy user.

Ignore Hussain's Review

Please ignore Hussain's review on this. I have purchased several of these amazing little things for myself and my friends since revision 1. it operates as marketed, and if Hussain was such as computer expert as he claimed, he would know there are a multitude of options for this. I use my Chromecasts with Chrome, which mirrors the browser window perfectly. I also use it with my Plex server, which allows me to stream my home content to my TV in perfect 1080p, My revision 1 of the Chromecast which only uses 2.4Ghz is just as reliable as my revision 2 of the Chromecast which uses my 5Ghz network. From my tablet, laptop, Android, iPad and iPhone I am able to not only stream my pictures, Plex, Kodi and all other home content, it's also great for the external content like Netflix, etc... As any consumer, talk to the staff at Bestbuy and their products. Most of the time they will be educated and will be able to tell you exactly how things work (within reason of their ability), however listening to people who typically slam any product in my opinion just means they haven't done their research and/or have no educated opinion of the product.

It is not really good

I have been using Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter for a while. This adapter mirror everything you have on the computer. I didn't like it because I had a lot of disconnections and also the mirroring interrupted and not smooth. Then I read the news about Google chromecast 1 and 2. I was really excited about it because the feedback is great. I bought the Google chromecast yesterday. I tried it. It is simply a piece of junk. Please pay attention to two things here: First if you are planning to buy one, you need super fast internet. Second, it DOES NOT mirror everything. It work only with youtube on Google chrome web browser. I feel it is an attempt to make people use Google Chrome web browser which is not really popular in the world of computers. It is a slow faulty browser. Anyways I tried it yesterday and I was unable to do anything with it except seeing youtube. Is that what why you are buying it: to see youtube on TV!!! Theoretically you can't mirror a movie that is saved on your computer. However, if you want to do it you can but you need a lot of work on making Google Chrome browser read your media files on your computer. I did that and the mirroring was not clear and very bad quality. I tried to make mirroring high quality but changing that from the option functionality that it has and what I got was horrible|: interrupted broken mirroring and very bad quality. The only good quality saw is when you use youtube on Google Chrome browser ONLY. I am using new computer and I am fully acquainted with computing tricks and I tried my best to solve the problems the chromecast has. I was unable to do anything with it. It is a lame gadget marketed unprofessionally. I will return to my old Microsoft Wireless Dispaly Adapter which also needs high speed internet but at least you can mirror anything you want. Remember, chromecast requires super super high speed internet and also it mirrors nothing but youtube on Chrome browser. Don't waste your time and money!

Loving the second generation

This is the second chrome cast I have owned. I gave the first to a friend after receiving an Appke Tv for Christmas but I recently purchased a TV for the guest bedroom and decided to buy a Chronecast to use with it. It's super easy to get up and running, allows you to access several great options such as Netflix ,YouTube etc. A great, cheap and user friendly alternative to cable TV and pricier options.

SETUP OF CHROMECAST

Setup with cell phone and tablet was easy, but setup with laptop was not easy. I had to contact Google Chromecast for help to complete the last step. When using screen mirroring from my laptop 10 % of the time it has trouble staying connected. This could have something to do with my internet connection (not sure).

Great Product

Can mirror the complete display of my phone or tablet onto the TV screen just like the screen mirror function between Samsung devices and Samsung TV. Can also cast through individual apps. Casting through individual apps gives better quality image while mirroring may produce different image quality depending on the screen resolution of your phone or table. Minor issue is reconnecting after each use is not as smooth as it should be. Several times I have to reset the Chromecast device or press the little button on the device in order to be reconnected.

excellent device

Easy to install and operate. Not expensive. Quickly delivered hassle free via Canada Post to my mailbox. After trying out the first one, I bought another one two days later! On the android phone used, anything that I saw on the screen was reflected on the TV. You don't necessarily have to have a special app with integrated chromecast symbol. for example. Illico.tv does not have a chromecast application, however if you view it on the phone you can send phone screen to TV. I found an app on my Ipad to be able to chromecast all my photos to TV. beautiful. By the way, full HD also!

Simply fabulous

I purchased two of these for my two TV's .. one in my den where my computer is and one in the living room ... They were easy to set up... instantly... work great... Truly amazed... I like that I can use either my computer or my smartphone to choose what I want to watch and then instantly cast it to the TV of my choice... no glitches, no hesitation... no hardwiring... I should add that I have Bell Fibe internet/wifi 20/10 using the HomeHub1000 .. might be partly responsible for my success... And I also discovered that once cast to the TV of choice, then the remotes for the TV's are fully functional in controlling the broadcast.. Simply a marvelous piece of equipment.
