I bought this because I tried the lower model (870-119) which was inadequate due to lack of an extra sata connection.
+This pc (870-129) has ample resources for my video editing needs (no games) including 2 available sata connections. Everything is quite snappy, once it's set up. +It runs quite quietly. The only noise is a peculiar sighing sound from the liquid cooler once it reaches operating temp. No real problem.
+I like that the LED light colors can be configured to reflect cpu temp or memory usages
-I don't like that the front panel usb slots and sd reader face toward the back and are hard to reach as pc sits under my desk.
-DVD drive mounted sideways - wish it were horizontal. I understand it's a design decision to maintain the sleek look, which I do like.
+Happy with the price since I got it on sale for 1800. Waited a few months for that to happen. Lots of resources for that price. I watched for similar machines but never saw one close to this price.
+Overall, very happy with this machine and with my choice. This is my 4th HP.
For anyone who (like me) are trying to get informations about what's inside this computer, here is the list of what I got got for the model: 870-129 I just got from Best Buy.
First look, it's a bit messy in there but everything cables are tied (tie wraps) and properly bounded.
Power Supply is not 500 Watts but 420 Watts LiteOn 80 Plus Bronze (which is still fine for this rig).
Video Card as no apparent brand but seem to be based on the reference card/board. (No RGB/LEDs)
Memory is 4x 8Gb DDR4 generic Samsung sticks (no heatsink).
Motherboard: HP IPM17-TP (Made by Pegatron or if you prefer made in China)
This computer as Liquid Cooling. It seems to be some generic HP custom setup. (Similar to a Corsair H60)
The 3Tb Hard Drive is a basic Seagate
The 512Gb SSD Hard Drive is a 2.5 SATA drive SanDisk X400 (which is meh.. a "decent" drive). The M.2 Sata port is still empty. I would guess the motherboard can not boot OS from the M.2 SATA port so this is why the SSD drive is not in M.2 format. (Otherwise it's a really odd choice to have added a 2.5 drive when you have a M.2 slot imbedded on the Motherboard)

Good Pc by HP but I had to reinstall the win OS back again
way too many bugs to play a decent game
overall good pc
PC shipped fast, and has been able to handle everything I've thrown at it. I tried playing a few games at max settings on a 4K monitor and the thing didn't even start to hum. It starts up fast, doesn't look as tacky as some gaming PCs and I haven't had any problems with it yet. Worth it, in my opinion!
I was looking forward to this PC. After Canada Post screwed up delivery and we had to trace down its whereabouts....I unpacked the PC only to find out that video did not work. Tried the HDMI cable on my laptop and was able to connect the monitor. Tried a second HDMI cable and the same result. Back to the store it went.
Everything is good, but the PC juat a little bit noisy when you using it at night. Maybe that noise from cooler fan.
I had to reinstall windows and drivers
the computer came defective ..BEWARE!!
Everything is good, but i have a little bit noise from my PC, i think that's from cooler fan. That's only one problem about this PC.
This PC is great for heavy application use.
I use this for software that requires moderate/high processing power, running multiple applications concurrently.
I run everything from Steam, to the AutoCAD suite (mainly AutoCAD 2014 and Civil 3D), to Bentley's software suite (Power InRoads and Microstation). I also run video editing software and audio recording software, and this PC effortlessly runs everything I've thrown at it, in any combination so far.
If you're looking for a PC for simple things like social media, email or word processing, I'd go for something substantially cheaper as this PC's processing power would be overkill for that sort of thing.
i bought it last month and is the best computer ever
A+ service by HP
The HP Omen 870-129 is super fast, reliable and best of all, the price is right. BestBuy has a real winner in this one.
you can't upgrade this PC better off with a custom built PC or build one yourself.
I wish I can give 0 star.
I bought this unit because the good reviews.
I just received it tonight and connected to the monitor through the HDMI cable came with the package.
No signal was detected. The monitor is fine as I can connect my laptop to it without any problem. I changed to a different known good monitor and there was still no signal through the HDMI.
I called the Bestbuy support and they told me that I have to call HP because I did not purchase the Geeksquad plan.
Well, I wonder if they shipped me the faulty unit that was returned by Ellis.
In any case, I am going to return it with the monitor tomorrow morning.
The one I got only has 2 terabytes instead of 3 tb. I went to the store and they gave me a 1 terabyte internal drive. When got home to check what else is missing, I found out after talking to HP support that the 512 SSD drive was not installed. I'll be returning this plus the internal drive that they included. I checked for these because the internet pages were loading too slow.
Defective video card , unusable computer. Don't be lured by big specs.
Buy extended warranty.
It was time to upgrade from my older HP. I did a ton of research, even considered building my own.
Pros - The features offered on this model meet or exceed any criteria I required. I could have purchased all of the components for a little less, all things considered, you can't go wrong with this unit. Current benchmark processor (6700K), lots of storage (3 tb) and RAM(32 gigs), Solid state primary (500gig) and a Great Video (8gig Ge Force GTX 1070) card with more ports than I have space for monitors. All in all I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this computer to anyone looking for all the bells and whistles. This HP Omen is fit to Game on, design, use a 3D printer and just about anything else you have in mind. I look forward to the using the VR feature and I don't think I will require any upgrades that this machine is not capable of, stock (over clock, processor upgrade). I'm even pleasantly surprised by the functionality of the integrated Audio. Wireless works amazing on 5ghz dual band router. Very quiet machine.
Cons - Everything is top shelf only upgrade I would consider is a Blue ray RW (Only thing that can be upgraded lol)
Love this pc ,never seen a pc boot up this fast ,its pretty quiet except for a constant up and down idle ,not sure if its the cooler or fan, anyone else have the same noise on there 870-129 ? these are pretty new so not a lot of reviews on them.
Overall this is a good PC: fast, quiet with lots of fast RAM and drives. Runs AutoCAD and ArcMap at the same time with no troubles. This is not the version that comes with the SteelSeries keyboard and mouse. There is only space for one additional drive. Inside the layout is very clean and organized.
This is definitely a 5 star computer. I researched lot of computers until I came across this one. It was the discounted Christmas sale price which brought it into my price range that first caught my eye. Reviews on the 32 GB’s of DDR4 Ram call it excessive so I know I will not be looking at adding more, at least not for a long time. I have several programs that start up with this computer and i7 processor along with the 512 GB SSD has it booting up in 38 seconds. The 3TB HDD provides ample storage space. I wasn’t sure based on the write up if this was a hybrid drive or 2 separate drives. I was happy to see they were 2 separate drives.
I bought it because I do a lot of multitasking, photo shopping, video editing, plus regular stuff like surfing the web, checking my e-mails, Skyping, downloading, playing games, etc. When I was finalizing an animation in Photoshop or a video in my video editing program on my old computer I had to leave the computer alone because it couldn’t do anything else. Now I can let these programs run in the background and carry on with other projects and you wouldn’t even know they were running.
The integrated blue tooth works far better than the one I added to my old computer. The 3.0 USB’s are incredibly fast for file transfers. I didn’t see anywhere in the specs where it said it was liquid cooled so I was really excited when I saw it was, this makes for a super quite running machine.
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card with 8GB of dedicated memory is great, no more sluggish responses from my video editing program. I have not had the chance to check out the VR & 3D yet but I am looking forward to it, all of the reviews I have read on this graphics card give it top marks. I have 3 monitors hooked up to it and the option is there to add 2 more which (according to my wife, LOL) is more than I will ever need.
Even the looks of it is impressive. From what I saw in the picture I thought it had 2 red lines running down the front. These are lights that slowly alternate from red to blue to green. Very cool looking without being distracting. My old computer is larger than this one, it has a dual quad core processor with 8GB’s of RAM, a GeForce GT 640 Video Card and a 2TB hybrid hard drive. I was always happy with it until I got this one that blows my old one out of the water. What I’ll miss about my old computer is the 2 hot swappable bays and the remote control.
The HP support looks good. While I haven’t had to use it, I have received several updates from them on the computer’s hardware. This computer is superfast, super powerful, and it has a clean modern look to it. While this computer cost a lot more than I’ve ever paid for a computer in the past, you only get what you pay for and my programs have never worked as well as they do on this computer. I can’t say enough good about it, I highly recommend this computer.
As per usual with BestBuy the computer arrived before the promised delivery date. Great service from BestBuy and another great product purchased from them.
It's very rare in my years of purchasing PCs, tablets, laptops, etc, to come across a product that both meets and even exceed my own expectation. This here is one such example of that.
I ordered the product during the Boxing Week sale with a good discount. And for that price, it is very well worth it. First off, as far as initial impressions and specs are concerned, it's a fine machine, especially for the price. For those who just want a fast PC that meets all their browsing and general computer needs, this unit meets and exceeds that. Arguably, if this is all you plan on using it for, it may very well be overkill. Boot-times are fast with the built-in 500GB Solid State Drive (which is where Windows is loaded), and with a 3TB Hard Drive inside you'll likely never run out of space for the foreseeable future. The built-in Wi-Fi also makes it easy to place anywhere in your household.
However, where this machine truly shines is when you use it to its fullest potential. As far as games are concerned, powered by a GTX 1070, I had no trouble running any of the newest game releases on Ultra Settings at 4K resolution, always meeting or exceeding 30fps by a healthy margin. However, those expecting 4K at 60fps can also do so by turning down some of the settings slightly. If one is looking at 1080p or 1440p gaming, however, expect this rig to completely wow you with both a high framerate and excellent graphics. Also with Bluetooth capabilities using an Xbox One S Bluetooth controller wirelessly is as simple as pairing it with the PC as you would any Bluetooth mouse, keyboard, headset, or other device.
As far as resource intensive programs are concerned, I use this PC for software such as AutoCAD and other design/rendering software and it is both extremely fast and rarely experiences any sort of slowdown while working or doing any task, thanks to the i7-6700K processor and 32GB of RAM.
Caveats, if any, are negligible. The first unit I received shipped to me, ended up being faulty (the graphics card failing at start-up causing a critical system malfunction) however my second unit has been working flawlessly since. (Yes they replaced it free of charge at the store). This is why I removed one star. Furthermore, if you're averse to the idea, be aware that the front "red' bar in the picture is actually a LED light system which continually changes colour.
Overall I would recommend this PC. It's both an excellent workstation and gaming unit. I definitely see this holding up for years to come. My only advice to you as a buyer is to consider that when purchasing this level of a PC to purchase a 4K monitor in tandem, the ASUS ones are excellent). Other than that, however, you can't go wrong with this unit, and it will definitely meet or exceed your expectations.
this pc is very fast, . no need a new pc for long time. sale price is very good.
