Very easy to install

Works great! Most of all the "free" channels have lots of commercials, but so does cable/satellite. Bought it for Netflix.

Great bug has limitations machine

I have Sennheiser wireless headphones which are imperative as I am profoundly deaf. Unfortunately, the headphones can't be connected to my tv so I can enjoy the Roku options. I use the cable box to watch cable channels. I've tried all sorts of permutations & have been told that I must have a receiver to plug my Sennheiser in to. Any suggestions?

I like the Roku Streaming stik

I bought a Roku Stik when they first came out.and I did not need the extras in the Roku Box. I just plugged it in and away it went. At first there was limited programing but that has grown to a lot of channels. You can also go on the internet and get channels that Roku does not list but can be entered into Roku and they work. My last purchase was my 5th Roku stik and they are all still working. I ordered the model 3500CA again. The product has been updated and it would not start. This was the first I had to go to Roku service and I must say I was very disappointed. I do not know who awarded them the best service award but my operator must have been off that day. I finally got it going by myself. Also I see a lot of people disappointed that there are not enough Canadian channels to cancel your cableviiion. This is true and I have always used my Roku in addition to my television service..

Incredible little device

We are new to streaming because a certain western Canadian based Télécom giant hammered up my package price. So I bought this thing to see if it could replace my TV package. Wow. So much free content. There are other ways to steam but none so easy for so much for so little. Its a bit odd but some of the channels are not listed. You have to go on the Internet for codes and enter them in. This thing has certainly replaced our cable. We also bought an ooma voip device and now my 160 bill is down to just Internet only for 45 bucks. Thanks for the kick in the rear giant western based Télécom. I wouldn't want to own your stock.

Does work but almost No content

Other than a few paid content channels such as netflix fimon there is nothing to watch unless you want to watch youtube or vevo. All the reviews saying that this offers 1000's of free channels are not true for Canada.

Perfect for us!!

We had trouble streaming Netflix through our DVD player, it was choppy and very slow to start. With the Roku Streaming Stick it is fast and with setting up through our surround sound we even have HD sound. We are very happy with our Roku Streaming Stick.

Couldnt ask for anything more

For a non technical person like myself, it was extremely simple to set up. Plus I got the older remote with the direct Netflix button. Perfect for a bedroom TV!!!

Roku HDMI Streaming Stick.

I echo the review already written/ The stick itself seems OK though I have had to change the picture (identity) twice and it was only installed Christmas Eve. I also think the remote isn't very good. Need to press many times before anything happens - with new batteries too.

Nice but the remote is not up to par.

I have been using this for 4 months now, the stick itself is ok although is does slow down after some time and a restart needs to be done. The main issue is the remote, it is horribly not responsive, I need to press the buttons 3 or 4 times for the unit to get the command and that's with new batteries.

I like it

I bought this as a second unit for the bedroom TV, with a Roku 3 in the living room. It is definitely pokier than the Roku 3, but I knew that when I bought it. Not a big deal. The only Issue I have is that it ships with different remotes. I recommended the unit to someone and ordered it for them about a week after I got mine. Theirs came with a better remote. It has the direct/shortcut buttons to NETFLIX, YouTube, etc., and a more tactile directional/OK button. Mine lays flatter to the remote so it's a little harder to blindly feel with your thumb. Again, no real big deal but I would have preferred the better remote.

Good choice of apps, some free content in Canada, but I am using it mostly with the Plex app to stream my own content. Never crashes, the remote works fine.

Outstanding Gadget!

Wasn't sure what to expect but this has exceeded my expectations by far. Literally hundreds of top quality channels, movies & shows in every interest/genre available on demand. Perfect picture and sound. For [price] it's a bargain. Will be cutting the cable, just can't beat the quality and offerings. It's like a PVR or recorder taken to the next level. So far satisfied.

Highly recommend this over purchase of Chromecast ! Easy to set up and simple to operate. Don't have to mess around with a tablet or smart phone to operate. Chromecast kept buffering and then freezing. Roku hasn't done this once since I got it.

Great Product

Easy to use and response time is decent. You do need to provide a credit card number to set up an account with Roku initially which didn't thrill us. Other than that, we are happy with it.

Does the job

Does the job and seems to work well. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 was because the power cord is extremely short. I think it should be longer to plug into the wall. It says that you can plug it into your TV usb to power it but it didn't work on my TV.

Replaced Chromecast

Works great! Bought it to replace Chromecast; got sick of messing with Android phone app. Easy to set up. Don't need charge card. Just call customer support and ask for link to alternative setup page which lets you create account without giving card number.

I love the product and now have three

I have bought my first Roku 3500CA last year and have since added two more to my TV's. I have never had ;problems with Roku connecting to a channel even NetFlix. My Roku is now the strongest connect to access Netflix. Although we are limited to Canadian Content through the channel store if you look around you can find Roku Channels that are not listed or are listed as American and you can connect to them. A quick Google Search got me a lot more content. It is annoying when they update their lists and you click on the channel and it is not available in your area. But there is a lot more Roku product out there. I did not buy the Roku to try and eliminate my TV billing..

Almost as good as regular Roku

An excellent value, almost as good as my other Roku 3. Does take a little longer to boot, and load Netflix, but not too bad. Takes up much less space than the other Rokus. I had trouble connecting to local network at first, but that problem went away after I set my router date/time properly.

Weak connectivity, requires credit card

This device could not find my network from a basement room where both my phone and laptop were able to connect. I moved the TV 12 feet closer to the router and still no luck. Only when I was in the room directly under the router would it connect. Then, during set-up, after it connects and updates its software, it requires you to visit their website and input a code that has appeared on the TV. After entering your name, address, phone number, and email address (all required!) they finally tell you that you also have to provide a credit card (or PayPal access) just in case you decide that you want to buy something from Roku at some point in the future. I bought this to stream Netflix. In the unlikely case that I want to buy content from Roku, I'll provide payment info at that time. I don't want personal contact info and credit card data stored on the servers of any company I deal with - just waiting to be hacked.

Excellent Value for your money

No issues. Exactly what I expected. I like it about the same as my Chromecast. I Primarily use it only for youtube and netflix. I do like the remote on this, so it has a little advantage over Chromecast.

Great unit when it works

Had one for almost 2 months before it began to freeze up or skip on all internet "channels" I noticed it get rather warm sitting idle. The 2nd one on exchange worked for about a week (TUE-SAT) when it just quit. LED appears dim & does nothing, draws no power & doesn't get warm. Not sure if I will go round 3 or just go Chromecast :( It is really nice when they work, great interface (note: if using HDTV antenna you will want to use HDMI cable to relocate the Roku as not to obliterate the incoming TV channel signal) Not as many "channels" available in Canada but still pretty interesting to watch what is. ~C~

Very pleased

Some people say the device is "slow". May be I'm not as picky as them but I don't feel it slow at all. It works well, super convenient and its hidden behind your TV. Great product.

Buffering...

Mine was a gift - otherwise I'd take it back. I have a cable internet connection, but the stick has so little memory and spends so much time buffering I haven't seen a single show beginning to end- commercial breaks would be better, because they wouldn't happen in the middle of a sentence.

Great deal!

Have had it for almost 2 months and it works great. Primarily use it for netflix and Plex, but has limitless options for other cool stuff. Have not had issues with streaming content or really anything. Set-up was very quick and easy. No complaints here!

Destroys the ChromeCast

Love it

This is my third roku device I have 2 2xd and wanted something small for our TV in our room for this. Had problems at first because remote was WiFi direct and had a ton of interference and wouldn't work until I switched it to the 5ghz freq now smooth as silk and just bought 2 more as gifts for Xmas for my daughter and nephew.

Faulty Stick

Just got one for our room have the XS2 never had any problems but this one we did. After a couple days the remote won't pair anymore or connect to my wireless network. Read that allot of ppl have this problem with the lot I have so hopefully after I return and her a new stock to try outs works. Right now it's a paper weight!

Good Enough To Own 2

After great success with my first Roku stick, I purchased a second. The stick does precisely what I want it to do; stream the content from the internet to my TV on the channels I'm interested in. It should be noted that I bought the second Roku stick for my "smart" TV. I did this because Roku offers more streaming players than my Smart TV branded TV did... and I couldn't get the specific player I wanted for one of my subscriptions. It obviously works best the closer you are to your wireless router but that's not a criticism of the stick; it's just something to be aware of the larger the area is that you are trying to cover with your wifi.

No $25 Gift Card... Poor Service

I bought a Roku Stick from Best Buy. It has OK, not great service like Google Chome. But, I never received an email for the [price] gift card upon activation. When I called Roku live support, they gave me a run around for the gift card. So I returned the Roku Stick and bought a Google Chome for $30 less (and much better service) !!!

Pros - Easy set-up, fast install, nice simple remote, great gui that offers tons of channels, Excellent media streamer for the files from your computer (just need to download the Roku media server channel) Cons - Cannot use if your hdmi port is at the back of the tv and you have it wall mounted. Start up time is really slow. Overall a wonderful product and you cannot (seriously I have looked) beat the price for what you get.

Solid little device

Very cool product. Does exactly what I expect of it. Keep in mind that most of the best channels are not available in Canada (HBO, Hulu, Amazon, etc.), but there is still a lot of great content to keep one occupied (Netflix, YouTube, Vevo, Crackle, etc.), with more channels being added daily/weekly. Was very easy to setup. Just plug in, connect to your home’s wifi, create an account, and off you go. This device is not meant to replace cable or satellite, as you won’t have access to local news, live sports, or the latest TV shows. But it’s a great supplement if you don’t feel like dropping hundreds of dollars on an HD-PVR receiver in every room of your house. I would definitely recommend this thing.

'OK' product

Biggest problem that I have with it is that the 'search' function is not available for Canadian buyers. This sucks and is the biggest drawback of the product. I use it with Plex media server, was a bit finicky in the setup but works well otherwise. Finding good channels is a problem. Drops wifi connection at times (looks like usually when it has not been used for a while) - requireing a reboot of the stick.
