Some people say the device is "slow". May be I'm not as picky as them but I don't feel it slow at all.
It works well, super convenient and its hidden behind your TV. Great product.
Mine was a gift - otherwise I'd take it back. I have a cable internet connection, but the stick has so little memory and spends so much time buffering I haven't seen a single show beginning to end- commercial breaks would be better, because they wouldn't happen in the middle of a sentence.
Have had it for almost 2 months and it works great. Primarily use it for netflix and Plex, but has limitless options for other cool stuff. Have not had issues with streaming content or really anything. Set-up was very quick and easy. No complaints here!
Best $ ever spent. So many apps it is overwhelming. Youtube could use an update, but over all this little stick destroys the ps4/xbox one/ chromecast/ nexus player/ and amazon fire. I own all of these devices, and Roku is the King of streaming
Early days but easy to set up and works as advertised so far.
This is my third roku device I have 2 2xd and wanted something small for our TV in our room for this. Had problems at first because remote was WiFi direct and had a ton of interference and wouldn't work until I switched it to the 5ghz freq now smooth as silk and just bought 2 more as gifts for Xmas for my daughter and nephew.
Just got one for our room have the XS2 never had any problems but this one we did. After a couple days the remote won't pair anymore or connect to my wireless network. Read that allot of ppl have this problem with the lot I have so hopefully after I return and her a new stock to try outs works. Right now it's a paper weight!
bought this for the bedroom tv
very easy to hook up and use
very fast to get to Netflix and others utube and more
going to buy another one for a spare bedroom works so good
After great success with my first Roku stick, I purchased a second. The stick does precisely what I want it to do; stream the content from the internet to my TV on the channels I'm interested in.
It should be noted that I bought the second Roku stick for my "smart" TV. I did this because Roku offers more streaming players than my Smart TV branded TV did... and I couldn't get the specific player I wanted for one of my subscriptions.
It obviously works best the closer you are to your wireless router but that's not a criticism of the stick; it's just something to be aware of the larger the area is that you are trying to cover with your wifi.
I bought a Roku Stick from Best Buy. It has OK, not great service like Google Chome. But, I never received an email for the [price] gift card upon activation. When I called Roku live support, they gave me a run around for the gift card. So I returned the Roku Stick and bought a Google Chome for $30 less (and much better service) !!!
For a simple and easy to install bit of hardware this device delivers what it promises. I'm able to stream netflix utube and 100's of other stuff, much of it free and the picture is crystal clear! Kudos to Roku.
Pros - Easy set-up, fast install, nice simple remote, great gui that offers tons of channels, Excellent media streamer for the files from your computer (just need to download the Roku media server channel)
Cons - Cannot use if your hdmi port is at the back of the tv and you have it wall mounted. Start up time is really slow.
Overall a wonderful product and you cannot (seriously I have looked) beat the price for what you get.
bought this stick easy to hook up
very clear and very fast. Would buy another one for another room soon
very good for the money. Hooks up in 2 mins
Works well. Easy to install and use.
Easy..fast..fun....and priced right
Very cool product. Does exactly what I expect of it. Keep in mind that most of the best channels are not available in Canada (HBO, Hulu, Amazon, etc.), but there is still a lot of great content to keep one occupied (Netflix, YouTube, Vevo, Crackle, etc.), with more channels being added daily/weekly. Was very easy to setup. Just plug in, connect to your home’s wifi, create an account, and off you go.
This device is not meant to replace cable or satellite, as you won’t have access to local news, live sports, or the latest TV shows. But it’s a great supplement if you don’t feel like dropping hundreds of dollars on an HD-PVR receiver in every room of your house. I would definitely recommend this thing.
GREAT PRODUCT. AS LONG AS YOUR INTERNET HAS A PASSWORD IT'S EASY TO SET UP AND GET GOING.
This is a great product if you have an oldr TV and want to connect to Internet content.
After owning a Roku 3 for in the living room, I bought the stick for the TV in the bedroom - just disappointed that this remote does NOT have an earphone jack like the Roku 3's for when the wife is already asleep....
works pretty well other than requiring a password for my internet network which didn't have at the first attempt to get this going am satisfied with it
Biggest problem that I have with it is that the 'search' function is not available for Canadian buyers. This sucks and is the biggest drawback of the product. I use it with Plex media server, was a bit finicky in the setup but works well otherwise. Finding good channels is a problem. Drops wifi connection at times (looks like usually when it has not been used for a while) - requireing a reboot of the stick.
for the money, its really slow compared to just adding a few more bucks for the roku 3. roku 3 is amazing!
This device did not work it was flawed I returned it with no problems staff was great and I am looking at alternatives
I bought based on the reviews on roku's website but it's totally the opposite. It says that it has over a 1000 channels but in reality there's only half of it and pretty much all useless channels. You can't even watch a nhl game on their app because it doesn't work in Canada. Therefore I returned that piece of crap.... Waste of money
You got all those extra HDMI ports on your TV why not put them use. No trouble to plug into the TV and install, however Roku requires a credit card for purchases from the Channel Store. Most channels (85%) are free....
Understand you will increase your Internet bandwidth usage so plan accordingly. Great value...better than cable when adding NHL or MLB (and other sports)..also has Netflix and Quello concerts. Rdio for all your individual album choices. Over all a great addition to my entertainment media. I bought a second one for my elderly parents..
I bought it on a Friday and returned it on a Monday. Really slow and lots of messing about to get to any of the good channels. Maybe it might get better in 5 years but for now hang on to your money.
This is nifty little device. Set up is extra easy. It literally takes few minutes to set it up. It is true that Canadian content is limited. It is easy however to set up Roku to watch American "channels". Do some research online. This Roku runs fast enough. I do not have complaints. Channels load up pretty quickly. I would take Roku over Google Chromecast any time especially because Roku is dual band so it can work at 5Ghz. This device is recommended.
Found the Roku streaming stick to be very slow to boot up, and slow to load apps such as Netflix. Also, some content was blocked on my streaming stick such as many American radio stations in the TuneIn app, even though the play perfectly fine on my phone inside and outside of my house.
Good product, you knew what you buy. And for the price is perfect. It's fast and working well. Takes mor time to type what you looking for. Less expensive and does the same as Roku 3.
The stick is so slow in general and it takes forever to program it the way you want it and to watch any show. It can take a good 4 to 5 minutes to turn on and watch the channel you want. Be ready to spend 2.9 hours of typing and waiting out of 3 hours of what should be ' a great tv experience'. Most channels , except for the pay per view or monthly fee channels, are dead links or super limited in content. Big big dissapointment. I'm returning mine today. Tried to set up a number of private channels that won't play here in Canada, is way easier, and faster just to stream directly to my ipad. Apple Tv has a way faster interface if what you are looking at is just Netflix. Roku Netflix is slow and terrible compared to Apple TV. Also, I set up my router DNS to catch the US content but soon I found out that in reality all it does is to offer you a larger number of crappy channels. Not worth the effort and the time spent.
An absolute waste of time and money. It has only a limited no of, and useless, channels. Many of the big names, i.e. Spotify, WWE, HBO Go, etc are missing because they are "not offered in Canada". I mean, why launch it in Canada if you are not gonna give us those "thousands of" promised channels?
does what it's supposed to do - lots of content and great company so I know it's only going to get better. Fast interface, and just plug it in and it works (don't have to buy anything else.)
