Overview

The Livescribe 3 smartpen may look like a regular pen, but it does a lot more. It digitizes your handwritten notes and doodles when you pair it with your compatible mobile device and the Livescribe+ mobile app. From there, you can tag your notes, search them, convert them into text, and more, making it easy to keep everything organized and easy to find.

More Information

  • An infrared camera in the tip of the pen captures your handwriting and stores it in the built-in memory when you write on Livescribe dot paper (50-sheet notebook included)
  • The smartpen wirelessly transfers your handwritten notes to your paired mobile device
  • Pair the smartpen with your smartphone or tablet through Bluetooth Smart technology to sync your handwritten notes to the free Livescribe+ mobile app
  • After you've paired your mobile device, the smartpen will automatically remember it each time you launch the app
  • Livescribe+ mobile app lets you tag, search and share your notes; convert handwritten notes into text; create reminders, appointments and contacts with your notes; and record and play back audio that's synced with your handwriting
  • Integrated stylus cap and Swiss-made tungsten-carbide ballpoint ink cartridge make this smartpen look and write like a premium pen
  • Enjoy over 14 hours of continuous use between charges
  • Compatible with iOS 7 and iPhone 4s or newer, iPad 3rd generation or newer, iPad mini or newer, and iPod touch 5th generation or newer

Poor Quality

Picked up the first Livescribe 3 at Best Buy and the pen would not pair with either my iPad Air or my daughter's iPad Mini. We never did get the blue 'Paired' light. Returned that Pen and received a second replacement which apparently has a problem with the optic sensor as noting is showing up on the iPad now that the pens and iPad are paired. Livescribe website indicates something is wrong with the FSR sensor. I am not trying again, thats two faulty pans out of two. This thing is going back. Just ridiculous.

Best Pen I Know of

First of all I do not give 5 star ratings, so a 4 is a very good rating for my perspective. I use the pen and like it. After a meeting during which I wrote the points discussed and (on a different page) the open points I just send the two pages via email to the participants delivering the fast and easy meeting minutes. I am from a more technical background but like writing because, what I wrote I know and even past situations become clear again with just a short view on my scribble made back then. All in all a good product. One thing for improvement: merging the new documents on the iPad (made with Livescribe 3 Smartpen) with previous notes (made using an older model of Livescribe pen) on the computer seems a missing point in the software (at least for me).

Best smartpen on the market!

I have used the Pulse pen in the past but stopped using it because I moved form a desktop system to a mobile system (in this case an iPad.) The pen works as it should. I come from an art background so I feel that writing notes on paper to be more natural, but I want and need to have them in my digital world to search and review when needed. The pen feels more like a pen than their other products and is simplified. It works very well. The software seems to work very well for me as long as you understand how it works and what you need to do to work with it in your work flow. I like the short snippets way of doing handwriting recognition as I don't often need the hole page digitized. I don't see the need for recognizing a hole page or a paragraph. But the feature that recognizes dates and then you can place them in your calendar or reminders is brilliant; works very very well. This is what I want to do, take the dates and events that I wrote down and have them become useful in the way my iPad works, i.e. dates and times, reminders and stuff. This part works! Also if your handwriting is tidy the OCR part of the software works the best that I have seen. Overall the software needs some improvement and a few features need to work smoother, but as long as you understand what this product was designed to do you will not be unhappy with how this works.

Great Product

Excellent product. Works as advertised. There are 2 versions in the States but could only find the std here. Nevertheless it's a cool product.
