Excellent choice to Replace a Harmony One remote

I was in search of a replacement for my old Harmony One remote that the screen gave out on it, white lines issue. It was over 4 yrs old and well used. Loved it but sadly no longer available new. Anyways, did my research online and hands on at Best Buy and really found as others have commented on I don't like the new Harmony Ultimate One remote. Most of the buttons removed now and play/stop/rewind buttons moved to the top of the remote so not sure what they were thinking usability wise. Mostly the Ultimate One is now a touch screen remote which I'm not keen on at all. Did my research on this Harmony 650 that still has the button format pretty much identical to the Harmony One, just doesn't have a touch screen. Ok by me! It can replace 8 remotes so works perfect for my TV, PVR (Shaw Gateway), Blu Ray, Amp, Multi-CD player, Apple TV and so on..... Loaded up the new software MyHarmony and was able to pull over all my one Harmony One settings from my old remote. Gotta say love the MyHarmony software over the very dated now Logitech Harmony program. Drag and drop commands to your keys! Nice. Spent like a 1/2 hour tweaking things so buttons do what I want and can say really loving this Remote. The feeling in the Keys I would say are better than my old Harmony One too.....and best of all.....price is like 1/3 of the Harmony Ultimate One! Try it, you'll love it. Thinking I'll buy a second one as a backup......it's just that good and well designed.

Just what I was looking for

I purchased a TV where the remote was defective, so I picked up the Harmony 650 while it was on sale for [$price]. Product arrived in 2 business days, popped the batteries in, plugged in the usb to my computer and set up the remote. It took 5 minutes to set up and I was off to the races. It's nice to be able to turn the TV on and have it go to a specific channel. 5 star experience all around.

Worth buying

I have had my Logitech Harmony 650 over 2 years now. I find it very easy to setup any audio, video , television myself. I had 2 old CRT Television plus 1 dvd player which the oem remote stopped working. I bought the other type of universal remotes most of the codes didn't work well at all, or they were just impossible to program. Yes I do agree that the Logitech Harmony 650 can take a bit to learn, but it is so simple to setup. I find that my battery lasts over 5 to 6 months n my unit, and I have had no contact issues with mine at all. I you're looking for an easy to setup and use universal remote, this is the one for you.

total control

I purchased this remote a few years ago and still going strong. Like any "high end" electronics item, the battery won't last forever. On average about 3 months I 'think" they last. When the welcome screen appears that tells me the batteries need replacing. It took some time to understand and figure things out. But eventually it all comes in very handy. No real issues with it at all.

Harmony 650 remote

It replaced our old Telus remote which had been replaced several times. I found the instructions to be somewhat confusing until my 8 year old showed me the way. We haven't got the DVD player working yet, but are still trying. I would rate it 3 out of 5 since it partially works.Like anything new it takes some patience to use.

Garbage

Bought this about 5 months ago after getting frustrated with the OEM remote that came with my PVR. Didn't even wait for it to go on sale, as I was just excited to get a new remote. I previously purchased a Harmony for an HD box, but I purchased the base nonLED model. I was quite happy with the performance. This model was great to set up with my PC. That's about where the benefits end. The single button activation works only when seated in front and centre of all devices, and don't even bother trying to turn on your PVR or cable box if there is any daylight shining into your living room or den. Unless it is overcast outside, every weekend includes having to get up off the couch to stand mere inches away from the box to turn it on with this remote. If I get the TV on, and not the box, then I have to follow an annoying troubleshooting process to get the remote to turn the box on. If you happen to bump this remote, or it drops from the couch a few inches to the floor, you may as well cancel whatever plans you had for the rest of the evening, as you will have to walk through a frustrating welcome tutorial to try and get back to a stage where you can actually access one of your devices, but you'll have to recalibrate the All Off/Watch TV buttons before you can do anything. This was the worst purchase I have made in a long time.

Worst remote

I never write reviews but feel compelled to do so this time. This is the third 650 I buy, only because it is the only reasonably priced universal remote out there. It suffers from recurrent issues [...] Don't buy!

Could be much better

One major problem with these remotes is the battery compartment. Any little bump and it looses it's connection causing it to restart. Even picking it up sometimes does it. Very frustrating. Also, the remote seems quite slow when changing from say TV to Movie or what ever. And the assistant screen is a pain also. It always seems that I have to wait for it in some way or other before I can get it to do what I need. This is not a one off type issue because I did buy a second one and it is just the same. This would be a great remote if it didn't have those problems.

Easy to use

Bought this when it was on sale. It was a great purchase. Simple to set-up and straight forward to use. My last Harmony remote (Harmony One), never worked my Fibe receiver properly. It didn't matter how many times I tried to program it. This remote, first try.

Great product, works well!

We love these devices for controlling TV/multi-media setups throughout the house. We purchased our 2nd model 650 (to replace a 670) so we could have the same button layout in both TV rooms -- main and upstairs. No problems setting them up for different equipment configurations, everything just works.

Good but ...frustrating to reprogram to new device

I found the Logitech 650 to be easy to program for my initial devices , albeit limited to 4 devices (TV, DVD, satellite, Surround Sound amp.) I now have a different TV and DVD player...I am trying to remove the original settings and reprogram the Logitech 650 to control these new devices and remove the old devices from memory...impossible it seems . I may have to buy another Logitech remote...very frustrating process...and you have to "buy" phone support from Logitech, I suspect it will be cheaper to purchase a new remote unit.

Great value

Couldn't be happier. This is my 3rd Logitech remote. I also have the 700 for my Family room setup. Easy to set up and simply connected to my previous settings because the last remote was dropped several times before it stopped working. Quick response when used. Fits in my hand nicely and will go weeks at a time before it needs recharging in my case.

Logitech Harmony 650 replaced 900

I have used a Harmony 900 for a number of years. It uses a rechargeable battery that recently failed. After six months of trying to purchase a new battery from Logitech and from third-parties on the Internet, I purchased a 650 online. It works fine and it was able to configure itself from my previous remote almost automatically. The 650 LCD screen is inferior to that of the 900 - it has very course resolution and fewer colours compared to the 900. Also, the 650 only supports five devices which is not that many. I purchased a second unit for another room. Unfortunately the Logitech configuration program identifies the configurations by number (1 and 2). It is not possible to name the configurations by room or location or purpose. I would purchase another one.

Good entry universal remote

If you have an older remote capable of more than 5 devices, you can set it up as desired, then upgrade to this remote and go beyond the 5 device limit. You just can't add more devices. I have one running all 8 devices that I needed. Good little remote, especially on sale.

Great Remote

I bought this remote to replace an old Harmony 880. It was very easy to setup. Copying my data from one remote to the other worked fine. At first I was worried that it would not have all the functionality I need because it is much cheaper than the 880 but it worked perfectly for me.

Almost love it

I had been thinking about getting one of these for a long time, but I was concerned that my rather obscure home theater receiver (NAD) wouldn't be supported. But I shouldn't have worried, I typed in the model number and there it was. The basic, net-based setup couldn't have been easier. I also like the more advanced setup options where you can tweak the order the macros run, etc., if you're so inclined. My only complaint is the form factor. I really don't care for the oval shape, with the larger part on the lower section. It always looks like it's leaning forward on the coffee table. On the other hand, it does seem to fit in my hand well, so I guess you can't have anything. Also, I really hate the grey colour. I suppose they do this to entice you to purchase their much sexier (but much more expensive) remotes. Finally, I was pleasantly surprised that it lights up when you pick it up. This was an unexpected feature that I am quickly not imagining living without. Not sure on the battery life, though. Time will tell on that.

Great Remote

I've long aspired to owning a Harmony remote but they seemed way too pricey to even justify the price of what seemed like a needlessly expensive remote. I got this one during a sale and it was worth it. The 650 has a simpler design with a colour screen and a limit of 5 devices so this isn't necessarily a remote for the whole house. It was this very easy to connect to my PC (Win7-64bit) and finding my desired 5 devices on their site was fairly quick. I had it setup in just under 10 minutes from un-packaging to final setup. Creating activities is very handy. Example: "Watch TV" which allows for several devices to be programmed in a specific sequence with a single button. No longer is there a need for 3 separate steps to turn on my TV, cable box and then my speaker bar. Now it's one button press. I was glad to see Logitech has Xbox One support and it works with my Rogers Nextbox 3.0 DVR. It took me another half hour or so to familiarize myself with the nuances of the screen functions and various buttons but so far it's a great device from top to bottom.

I have always wanted a Harmony remote and i was lucky to get one for Christmas. The setup of the remote was pretty easy. I like the fact that you are able to setup activities for the devices which allows you to turn on devices that you want by simply clicking on one button on the remote. All around i am probably going to pick up another 2 remotes for the rest of the TV's in my home.

Good Universal Remote

I have owned several Logitech Harmony remotes and have found them to be quite good but far from perfect. It is sometimes difficult to configure these remotes, especially if you happen to own less popular devices or a PlayStation 3 (which requires Bluetooth). Logitech has options for controlling PS3s but then it's starts getting pricy. My intent was to control a "homebrew" PVR setup as well as a Sony TV, home theater sound system, PS3 and Apple TV but I can't find any settings to control my Hauppauge HD-PVR2 and this remote can only control up to 4 devices. Best to avoid if you want to control more than 4 devices or a PS3 (requires a IR/Bluetooth blaster sold separately). Logitech doesn't really have many competitors in this space so it's difficult to find a better deal out there. I just wish they would last a bit longer and would let you control more devices.

Great Deal

This harmony remote does everything you could want, unless you need RF. Don't think you need to spend 100's of dollars. the buttons are great and tactile, and despite what I read, the screen is not a problem to view at an angle. You can get around the device limit as well, the limit is about the only flaw of this remote.

Works better than expected

This is to replace the older one I have (Harmony 800 series). The setup is a bit different from before. So it takes some time to get used to. The soft rubber buttons are nice. And it has built-in logic which makes it easier to use than the old model. And it is relatively cheap too. One tip: you need to add a DVD device in the setup to use the "Watch a movie" button.

Best Remote

I'm running a LG 3D Cinema TV, Blu-Ray Player, sound bar, Cogeco cable box and Apple TV. I set up my devices on Harmony's site by entering the make and model numbers then called Logitech tech support. Their support is so good. Why spend hours setting up all the activities when they can do it remotely in 10 minutes. You just need to tell them which cables are connected to which device and what you want it to do. I've had this remote for over a year now and there's never been an issue. Love it!!!!!

Harmony Is a Great Remote

This product uses activity, then with pressing one button it turns on the amp, turns on the tv turns on the PVR and all is ready to use. Then if you want to use it for Apple you can quickly , thru activity setting one button and voila it switches ALL including the input from the flatscreen where the HDMI for the apple tv is connected. Easy to program, easy to swap out amps, dvd, cable boxes. I liked it so much I bought a 2nd one for the wife...happy wife happy life :-)

Must-have device!

I've been struggling with remotes for years and have been buying universal, learning, programmable remotes for years. This model has finally brought an extremely advanced remote control to the mainstream markets at a great price! The Harmony series finally tries to make a programmable, customizable remote that anyone can program/use. I've spent days in the past trying to get these remotes to work. This one just asks for a list of your model numbers of all devices, automatically downloads all the codes you need and then runs through a wizard asking how you watch TV - do you use your cable box to change channels or the TV? Do you want your volume control button to control TV volume or your stereo/soundbar volume? I have yet to find a single device that I can't remote control with this device. I also have the Harmony One that was triple the cost of this and works pretty much the same way - this is a great value if you don't need to control more than 5 devices. It sounds suspicious, but this can actually save money! In the past, I've had to buy newer receivers and different sound bars for my TV setup because my old receiver didn't have HDMI connections - or the sound bar introduced a new remote control to my existing 4 or 5 remotes. My wife and kids couldn't figure out how to watch TV and switch things over to the XBox, etc...and with this remote you can automate it all. No matter what components you have, this ties them all together with one remote. You can add an activity called "XBox" and have it automatically switch TV inputs, stereo inputs, sound bar settings, etc...by pressing one button. You don't have to buy an expensive soundbar with HDMI connections and Audio Return Channel settings to simplify the volume setting through one remote control - get a cheaper component and use this remote to tie everything into the one remote control. This is a must-have for anyone who has more than a single device connected to their TV!
