I purchased this remote in hopes to combine the three remotes I was currently using. Technically this is what happened. I didn't realize I was going to have to download software - well after an hour the software was downloaded and promptly crashed my laptop. Luckily my buddy has the software and offered to set it up. He managed to set it up; however, there is a lot of steps to get to each thing. I have a audio system that I have to change the function on, for some reason the TV speakers always turn on, the pausing live TV function doesn't work to name a few. It isn't the most convenient remote to use, but it is the least convenient remote to use. That being said it's better than having to use all three,
I bought this on sale to replace my 7 year old Harmony 510. There was (is) nothing wrong with my 510 but it only controls 5 devices and I wanted to control at least 6 devices (the new 650 controls 8 devices). I am quite happy with it. My settings for the 510 transferred easily to the 650, then I added another device and tweaked the activites a bit. I like the favourite channels feature, selecting a favourite channel tunes the channel much faster than using a sequence, which was how it was done on the 510. There is a site mentioned in the logitech forums where you can download channel icons. Also, the Apple TV activity not only switches the inputs, etc., it also wakes up the Apple TV. Nice! One thing I do notice is with the 650 it seems I have to press the buttons a little more firmly, maybe the buttons on the 510 were getting a little soft? No big deal. I'm glad I switched. Can't say anything about durability yet, but if it's as good as the 510 it's great. I did have to phone customer support as the remote was not updating one screen properly but it was fixed on the call in a reasonable time frame.
This remote is used to control an RCA RLDEV3258A-H TV, a Denon AVR-800 receiver and a Panasonic DVD-RV32 player. The receiver and DVD player were in the Harmony database, the TV had to be learned from the RCA remote.
As advertised, it supports multi-device activities. For example, to 'Watch a Movie', it turns on the DVD player, sets the TV input, and routes control buttons sensibly, sending volume up/down to the TV and play/fast forward to the DVD player.
Even better, once I posted something on the Logitech forum, they created the TV device in the database. I can't comment on durability but am very pleased with the functionality.
replaced 4 remotes very nicely, does not work well with toshiba soundbar though.
Purchased this remote for [price] about 3 weeks ago. I was able to program it with just a little bit of thought. Once you have located all the model numbers from the equipment you want to control, it sets up smoothly. One complaint is that I set it up to work our Apple TV and it worked initially and now either doesn't turn it on or off or allow you to control the device. Well at least I was able to eliminate 3 other remotes. I still use the Apple TV remote to control that device. The Harmony buttons all make sense even though they may not be labelled like the Rogers Remote - It was pretty easy to figure out which button to use to perform a function.
Purchased this remote control during the online boxing day sale. Paid about less then half price for it. Was easy to setup and was straight forward to add additonal devices as I used it. Worked for about a month well, then it started having issues. The screen kept resetting whenever I would push any button. I would not buy this product again even for half price.
This remote can replace up to 8 remotes and is surprisingly easy to set up and use. On top of that it offers the possibility to program more complex functionality if required. Excellent value for money.
Ease to setup and ease to use. Works with Bell receiver, TV, AMP, and Apple TV. You can even switch it to the specific component remote to unlock those settings. Does exactly what I want it to do.
Bought this on sale and for the price you can't go wrong. This is my third Harmony remote. 1st broke from being dropped many times. 2nd was a fancier model and stopped working right. So wanted to switch back to a more basic model.
Super easy to transfer all my settings and I was up and running in 10 minutes.
Picked this up to replace an 8 year old Harmony because a couple of the most commonly used buttons had died. Process to transfer all my settings over was easy, bringing my while configuration over without issue.
Works great, controls all the things. Response time on individual button presses seems faster than my ancient Harmony. Feels good in the hand. Buttons to control everything I need. Been using it for a month now and no complaints.
The Logitech Harmony 650 remote is reliable and dependable and once you have read the user instructions it is so easy to program and set up using your Mac or PC (I have mine set up on both systems and use either depending what I am working on).
I have been using my model 650 for about 5 years now and I have never had any issues with it. I have purchased several tv's and switched cable providers a few times and after some quick program set up changes the 650 is always ready to go. I would recommend this to anyone looking to buy a universal remote.
We now have three of these units which provide outstanding control of our media devices in various locations. They were easy to set up and operate plus they reduce the remote control clutter which was previously a nuisance. Basic functions for every device seems to work easily from this remote.
Nice easy to use remote
This is the 4th 650 I have purchased. They all are being used. Once you get past the setup, they just keep working. Good remote for the price. Even better when on sale. Takes the place of 4 remotes and adjust all the inputs on my receiver. The wife would be lost without it.
Good remote, easy to setup. Just think the 'ok' button is to small. Other buttons are more visible then my old Harmony.
Alright, I'm not the typical person looking for a universal remote to press one "activity" button to get everything to the correct setting. I was just looking for one remote that would "talk" to all of the components. I don't mind going through 10 steps to get to all the settings that I want.
The reason for the VERY poor ease of use rating is the synchronize function. After you set what you want on the software, you have to synchronize to the remote ( or program the remote so to speak). And so far, the synchronize has failed 9 out of 10 times, so this is quite frustrating. Its easy to find suggestions as to how to deal with it but the solutions don't always work and so I ended up trying to sync over and over again. It took a lot of time and it was frustrating. So, now I've gotten the remotes (I bought two) to do about 90 percent of what I want them to do and every change after that I've really hesitated because trying to sync them is a pain.
I started the review saying I wasn't into the activity buttons. But now that I have them, and tried using them, I was quite surprised and how easy they make things, and was very impressed with how it interacted with my xbox (360 and one).
Overall, I'm okay with the purchase and will not be returning the remotes. But I thought hard about it when I was having so much trouble syncing.
Love this remote, it takes the place of three currently using, Simple and effective, would strongly recomend it.
This is my 3rd harmony remote, and am completely happy with this purchase. The remote is easy to program and easy to use.
Easy to use and program.
Received the control quickly and in good shape.
Setup took a little doing, not because it is difficult to do but because the instructions in the MyHarmony setup app for setting the Bell 9241 PVR remote address to 1 are not accurate. The app says to press the sysinfo button on the remove, but for the 9241, there is such a button. The sysinfo button is on the right-hand panel on the machine. I was having trouble with this (a UBF...user brain failure) so I called tech support. After much toing-and-froing with the tech he had to give up tell me to contact Bell tech support. As it turned out, all I had to do is read the 9241 manual. Once I did it according to the manual (what a concept) all went well.
The logitech support tech phoned me back to find out how things were going. He had sent me an email with the instructions from the 9241 manual. I said all was well and suggest he send a note to whoever it may concern that the instructions in the app need to be updated to reflect the manual. If it weren't for the misdirect in the app, setup would have been quick and easy.
That said, the support was excellent. The tech tried very hard to solve the problem and followed up with an email AND a phone call to make sure it was fixed. Top marks for logitech support.
The remote is well made, easy to set up and easy to use. My wife loves the way it turns everything on and off with a single button. We'll see how the love affair stands after the first time the remote gets out of sync with the hardware (e.g., leaving one on or not turning one on which can happen if you fail to keep the remote pointed at the hardware).
The button layout and size of buttons make it not quite as easy to learn to use by touch, without looking at it. The remote that came with the pvr was much better in this respect. However, this is not a major issue.
Batteries last reasonable well, depending on how much you channel surf and generally keep the unit in your hand which tends to keep the screen back light on thus draining the battery a little faster.
My av equipment is fairly old, but the remote has no difficulty controlling everything.
I own two 650s and have had little or no problems with them. The only problem I have is when it turns on my Samsung 60 inch TV, it doesn't always change it to full screen from hub screen it starts in. Haven't figured that one out yet. Not a biggy, I just press single custom-defined button to make the switch.
All in all, I recommend the 650.
This Logitech Harmony 650 remote simplified navigating our television and home entertainment center that includes a Sony AV receiver, a Sony Bravia TV, a Fluid brand DVD/CD player and a Motorola digital cable box. I was surprised that it could manage the DVD/CD player as the Fluid brand is one I had never heard of until I recently purchased this unit.
The Harmony 650 does not manage my Sony smart TV box and I did not expect it to. This unit has it’s own remote of course (including a QWERTY keyboard) so I didn’t expect a universal remote would or could replace it. That said, I did program the Harmony 650 so that when I press the “More Activities” button, everything is set up so that I then use the Smart TV remote for browsing the web, watching YouTube or Netflix etc.
I bought the Harmony 650 on sale. I thought it was a very good deal. I’ve only had the device for a couple of weeks so I’m not sure how durable it is. That will be determined over time (thus the four stars instead of five) but it does seem to be smartly designed and well built. Also, the 'MyHarmony' software, used to configure the remote and downloaded free from the Logitech site, was simple and intuitive to use.
So far, I’m very pleased with this purchase.
The remote function as expected, I was disappointed that Netflix wasn’t easer to set up.
This was a replacement unit for my original 650 . Works great easy software and easy to use . For the price you can't go wrong .
Remote is all, what they promise to be - universal.
Before you start programing, take time and check make/model of all devices you will use. Once downloaded and open the program will prompt you, just follow instructions. When you are done - test it and do not expect wonders, it learns with time. If something is not off find device, use buttons and turn it off, then turn on again and everything will go on/off as it should. Same with inputs. It is like a child- learns, memorize, does, just be patient and gentle. And yes, after that you can relabel/rename all devices on remote as you wish. About button layout - it will take some time to learn it, but for me it is okay and does everything what my old remotes did. So, now my receiver, tv, PVR, bluray player, Apple TV are all controlled with it! I was sceptical about Apple TV, but it works just fine.
Before you jump to more expensive options try Harmony 650 and decide for yourself. I like it and recommend it.
Easy to use, easy to install and gets rid of the clutter of having multiple remotes. Excellent product.
Like some others, I too had problems with loading the software (in my case on a one year old Mac Book). I had to delete and reinstall the software in order to get it working. Once I did this everything went pretty smooth, unlike my old Harmony 520, this one require less input to program. All you do is provide the make an d models of the devices you want to use and the Harmony software basically does the rest.Bottom line, it works great.
Got this unit to replace my existing one because the buttons are starting to fail. I am used to working with some user unfriendly software. This software took days to get to know how to get to the screens I needed to further customize the remote. For weeks after I got the initial remote, I would find a button not programmed into the remote from the defaults provided by the website. Once I got used to the awkward layout of the software, things worked out fine. Feel sorry for anyone that is not used to trying to use rather user unfriendly software. Hopefully the buttons on this new one will last longer that the old one.
Purchased this remote to replace my Arcam FMJ cd 36 remote. It was very easy to set up and it's a joy to use.
Overall very satisfied with it it does with it is supposed to do.
This is not my first Logitech remote....in fact over the last 10 years, between two separate systems, this is probably my 5th.
PROGRAMMING: If you know how to answer simple questions, this is the easiest remote to program.
PLUG IN USB: If you know how to plug in a USB cable, you are good to go.
ACTUAL FUNCTIONING AND USAGE: It doesn't get any easier or any better than this.
DURABILITY: certain buttons that are used the most, will wear out in 1-2 years, depending on how much usage.
STILL, I HIGHLY RECCOMEND IT!
Great remote, so good, I have 3 of them.
Software is easy to use and keeps track of up to 6 remotes.
These tend to last 2-3 years before your favourite button becomes mostly non-responsive. With a tiny bit of talent you can remap that function to a button you rarely use and get another year or two out of it.
It's durable, get's sat on, dropped on the carpet, stuck in between cushions etc, you know, normal life and doesn't complain.
It will go through batteries monthly so a wise consumer will invest in rechargeable AAs.
This was possibly the worst software I have encountered in years. I finally got it to work after loading it on four computers. Had to go back and uninstall then install again a few times before it finally functioned. This was not our first Harmony remote, so It is not like I have not set one up before.
The old one started to have FF button issues after about six years so I felt confident in buying another Harmony Remote.
After spending the best part of two days getting the pathetic software to function properly, I would think long and hard before purchasing another of these devices.
A really awesome remote. It replace 8 remote. Just press one button and let the remote do all the switching for you, just make sure that the remote have a line of sight to your devices though. I have 3 of these now for each TV set. With a lot of devices plug in to your TV and tired figuring out every time you watch TV for example, this is the remote made for you. Easy to use, easy to program, what can you ask? Highly recommended!!!!
Bought this to replace two very old harmony remotes, couldn't reprogramme them when I got new TV and cable service, this new remote set up easily and works as intended, very pleased with purchase, have saw some neg comments regards battery life, will see if that is a problem, if it is will just have to buy batteries in bulk,,,,,,
Replaced 4 remotes, works fantastic. Even picks the right HDMI port for a different source with 1 button. Highly recommended
Took Ten minutes to set up works great
Controls everything. I got to put away 6 remotes. Easy to use, simple to setup.
I have several different remotes and everyone of them needs a different programming software. The software would not run on my computer so I had to go thru the browser to program. It would have been nice just to log into my account say what remote I had bought and transfer my setting to it.
I've used Harmony Remotes for over 13 years now and this was the only one that gave me problems programming it. However, I just headed over to the Harmony Remote help board and posted my troubleshooting steps, my issue, and I had Harmony Tech support fix my issue in less than a day.
Now we've gone from four remotes to one that works switching between devices with ease. Can't beat the price - they sure have come down since I started buying them years ago!
Upgraded my older Logitech to this and retained all functionality. Battery lasts for the moderate user. Great ergonomics.
We programmed the remote and did everything outlined in the online instructions. In fact, we undid and then redid the programming when it didn't work properly. It looked promising, and we were very hopeful, but it just didn't do the job. It would switch devices, but would not consistently change the source input and caused much frustration. Very disappointing.
I was looking for a remote to control 7 devices in my house and I tried several brands. Finally I found one that can do all that I want.
Excellent product, so easy to set-up. So far works flawless.
Definitely could recommend it !!!
Worked great for replacing 5 remotes, easy to setup and use. Recommend
Good product. Recommended.
Previously had the earlier Harmony Universal Remote, and this is just as good, perhaps even better. EXTREMELY E-Z to set up. Web support is also quite well done. I'd TOTALLY recommend this product.
This is all you need to streamline video, audio, cable PVR, etc. When properly setup it will turn on and control only the devices that you are uses such as watching a movie it will turn on Bluray player, TV, surround sound and leave PVR and other components off. When this goes on sale at under [price]. bucks its a steal! This controls up to 8 devices. The only reason one would ever need more of a remote is if you want to use your tablet or smart phone but then you would be spending in excess of $200. bucks in my opinion this would be "GOOFY," there are better and much less expensive solutions out there especially if you do a lot of steaming.
Just the fact it replaces so many remotes...makes it a worthwhile purchase. I have a LG TV, Sony audio system, some kind of cable box, apple tv and a sony dvd player. And I need is this.
This remote works as advertised. It replaced 5 remotes with a few glitches but nothing I could not figure out. I'm happy with my purchase. And would recommend it to friends and family.
The Harmony 650 simplifies the use of several devices. But I do have an issue defining favorites.
The definition is easy but after synchronizing the first time the channel numbers were played too quickly. I tried several delays and found that 700 ms worked - at least for a few days. Then, for no apparent reason there was no response to the favorites selected. I synchronized without making any changes and the delay was lost. So I again set a delay of 700 ms and all seemed well - for a few days. Then the favorites went back to doing nothing.
I have given up on favorites and have deleted them from the online definition. Frustrating for sure, but still the device is worth keeping for everything else it does for us.
This remote is amazing. It runs my entire system, and my wife can use it. I have a few older devices in my system with dead remotes that I am now able to use. The remote functions can be totally modified to fit my needs. I highly recommend this remote.
Be ready to buy lots of batteries, I put 2 Duracell quantum AA chewed through them in ten days, the remote it self works fine but the battery life if a deal breaker
