Exceeded expectations

I wanted a replacement for my Ipad, but with something that did not have a phone OS, and that was just as versatile. I went with the Surface Pro 2 since it had Windows 8.1 Pro, and I knew that I could have my windows programs installed that I need. I was initially worried as this had extra weight and did not have the 4G, however, this was no problem when tethering it to my iPhone which worked like a charm. The weight also was not a factor. The battery life was incredible as I had a 4 hr flight where I was watching movies in 1080P nonstop for 3.5 hrs, and 1/2 hour of browsing prior to take off. I expected the power to be down around 30% tops, however, when I checked, it had 53% remaining. My only regret is that I did not purchase the 256 GB version. Highly recommended!

Amazing device

I bought my surface last wednesday and I am absolutely in love with this device. It's blazing fast and super mobile!!! I love the fact you can have different keyboards to go with it as well and a charge cover if you need extra battery life. I haven't bought the dock yet but when I do, this device will be the only computer/tablet/desktop I need!!! I'd highly recommend!

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 – 128GB, 4gb RAM

The Surface Pro 2 (SP2) is a game changer for me and every other catch phrase you can think of. My kit included the Type Cover 2 and the ARC Mouse (all three should be included as part of a combo, I see each of them as essential for the full SP2 experience). I never expected to be able to perform all my day to day work tasks flawlessly on a tablet (sort of). I continue to be blown away by the versatility and true mobility of this device. The SP2 does what 4 or 5 devices did for me previous to its purchase. I purchased the SP2 mid Feb. 2014 and since then it has been my daily use desktop computer, my daily use tablet and my daily audio book, music and movie library server. Having windows 8.1 on my desktop computer as well allows seamless communication and integration between the two computers, I particularly like how the desktop and start quick-link set-up and themes can be synced between devices so they automatically update on both devices. I have no problems streaming (music, videos, documents, anything really) either through the home-group or the network both work great. Skydrive / Onedrive is a real neat feature allowing me to access my files from the cloud dragging and dropping as you like from windows explorer as long as I have access to the internet. They give you 7 GB of free cloud storage off the hop and an additional 3 GB for sending out some references. The feature that jumps out at me first and will make me a loyal Surface Pro 'X' customer for life is the ability to run x86 and x64 software on such a small and compact device. Anywhere you feel comfortable using a tablet you can feel comfortable with this. I was drafting with the full version of AutoCad 64-bit in portrait mode, using the included SP2 stylus, lying on my back on the couch with my feet up. The sky is the limit for positions you can be in and still productively use this device. A true game changer.

Left Ipad for Surface Pro 2

I am having a new love affair with Microsoft again. My desktop at work is Windows based but I purchased the Ipad for travelling. I purchased an app that converted Excel and Word documents but it was so clunky. I just purchased the Surface Pro2 and took it to a conference. It was so slick to use and I realized how much I missed being able to just access and open my files from work. The case with the keyboard is absolutely necessary but it is so slick. Just open the kickstand, unfold the keyboard and you are ready to go. I am still learning the ins and outs but overall I am impressed. The touchscreen is very responsive and quick. I got a whole 8 hour conference day on one battery. I highly, highly, recommend this to anybody who travels a lot. It can absolutely can take the place of a laptop if you are just using it for email, and office duties

I purchased the surface pro 2 to replace an older laptop that i used at work (I am a high school math teacher). It has met or exceeded all my expectations. I highly recommend the type cover. It's speed and ease of use are amazing. I have been able to use all the software that I would have with the laptop. Definitely a good buy.

It's ok but definitely not worth what I payed

This is a nice enough tablet, it does most of what I want but I do have some issues with it. First of all is the lack of apps in the app store (this may sort itself out over time) but I bought it for work and the apps I was most looking for are not available on the app store. Second of all, only one USB port. When I buy a [price] computer, I think I can expect more than one USB port, I can't do nearly as much as I wanted to do with this without more ports! It really limits my abilities to get the full potential of the computer. 3rd, is the Flash drive, which is supposedly built in but I have trouble using it on the Youtube apps, where it says it is not updated, (when it is). Another problem is sometimes I have to reset it for no reason, as it won't turn on from the main power button. (still not sure why). 5th, no keyboard included. You have to buy it as an aftermarket part which sucks! Especially when it is a basic necessity if you want to access some menus and websites on the tablet, another good way to gouge us of our hard earned money. If I were you, I would stick with a laptop, or another type of tablet with more capability. I am having some slight buyers remorse after getting this product

Yess, Yessssss!

This tablet is awesome! You get the best of the tablet with the added benefit of a fully functioning PC. The UI is extremely user friendly , and keeps getting better with each Windows 8 update. I can't tell you how much love the built in stand (soooo convenient), as well as the snap on keyboard, if you need it. Don't expect as many apps as you would on Android or Apple, but the Xbox Live games are awesome, plus with the Pro you get the added benefit of much, MUCH, better possessing power than the Surface RT (tried it in store..... brutally slow compared to the Pro, plus Pro has much better resolution) or an iPad. More and more apps keeps getting added to the Windows 8 selection each week, so I can't wait until Microsoft apps reaches the same quantity of apps as Apple and Android (there was a time when android was a rookie like the surface, but look at them now!!!). Do your life a favor and get the Surface Pro.

As a district manager and distance university student this product is ideally suited for all my needs. Typically when I travel I carry my Samsung Note`10.1 and a laptop and I use both equally. Since having this, although I was skeptical that it would in real life, it has completely replaced both. I find it actually works as good or better than most laptops or tablets and that is primarily due to it's versatility. I find WIn 8.1 more modern feeling and powerful than both IOS or Android. In my opinion Microsoft hit the mark/match with this hardware and software by creating a true hybrid. Simplify your life and buy one device that will do everything instead of three.

Surprised by how great this is Surface is

As a tech junkie who buys a new computer every year I will admit that I was surprised by how much I love this machine. My last 3 machines were MacBook Air models and I was not planning on getting rid of my current one. I did not think the surface would be able to replace the need for my MacBook. Boy was I wrong. After having the Surface for two weeks I was so impressed that I listed my MacBook on kijiji. The way they integrate the touch screen and stylus is so efficient. I cannot now wait until the future generations come out. If only it was a bit thinner I would also replace my ipad and go down to one device.

Surface Pro 2

There's definitely a learning curve with this machine, but once you learn how it works, it's a great replacement for a laptop! It would be awesome if there was a full-blown tutorial for windows 8.1 in general and this machine in particular, since it can do wonderful things

Big Improvement

I love my new surface. Getting much closer to what a tablet should be. It's silly to have to own a desktop/laptop/tablet/phone. I didn't like Windows 8 on my old computer but after using it on a touchscreen tablet I really get where they are going and I like it. I did buy the keyboard and Bluetooth mouse with it which are nice for when you are sitting down using it like a laptop. Minor complaints are that the kickstand doesn't work when using it as a tablet in portrait mode, and that it needs to drop some weight. For some people the weight may be a bigger issue but it is well worth the trade off in functionality vs the iPad for me.

Excellent Product

This is a game changer. Makes other tablets look like toys (I also own an iPAD and a Samsung Galaxy that will really only be used by my kids. Highly recommend this product to business people who travel and feel that the iPAD doesn't provide enough tools to take on its own.

Good but..

Good tablet, pencil is a wonderful tool, hope that Apple will learn something about it. Stylius is superb, very easy to use , best pen I ever used, but for the price ? Still window 8.1 wich I dont like it. Buggy, I ve tried it and returned it.

Awesome power in a tablet form factor, a suitable replacement for any laptop and/or desktop.. only downside or worry i had was the storage capacity, but adding a 64gig microSD card helped to carry along a few movies or music files for trips and whatnot, and using a usb hub to plug in an external 2tb hdd also helps around the office or home. the screen on the device is great, and connecting to a monitor for added workspace is an advantage. the battery on this will last me about 6 to 7 hours of contentious use, alot more then i was used to getting with my samsung laptop. please dont compare this to a tablet because its not just a tablet.. this is a full blown, well built PC or ultrabook

Giddy Up

I first tried to get away with the ASUS T100 and lasted less than a week... moved into the Surface Pro 2 and I couldn't be more pleased, this is a seriously well built product that knows how to make best use of 8.1. the Surface is worth every penny. I love my Surface Pro 2!

It's unbelievable that I couldn't find a charger inside the package. After 2 weeks, they still refuse to supply a new charger. If you buy this thing, open box and have a check before you leave the store.

More laptop than tablet

Compared to an ipad or a nexus, the Surface Pro 2 is closer to what I wanted and needed. It is a tablet that can handle laptop tasks. I bought mine at bestbuy about three weeks ago. The main reason I got the tablet was that it allows normal software install and it is not limited to the app store. The windows app store is a waste land, very little useful stuff there, but you can put all your normal software on the surface, so it kind of evens out. Part of my rationale for switching from an ipad 2 was I figured that since I can install itunes on the surface pro 2, I could still maintain reasonable access to my apple library. The tablet is heavy and not as portable or comfortable to hold as you would imagine with an ipad. It is a fully functioning laptop and the added stylus is a plus. The keyboard is needed so your actual cost is more like [price] for the 125GB model. At that price, you have to make sure you really need one, especially if you already have a home and an office PC. The Surface Pro 2 attempts to replace your travel laptop, but I am not sure it succeeds. The bonus features of Skye unlimited calling and extra SkyDrive storage are pluses, only if you find value in those. I don’t. I was learning to love the device, but this morning it really pissed me off. It just decided to stop working, won’t boot up and won’t turn on. I have put in a replacement request to the Microsoft service center and waiting to see how their customer service works. Overall, if you are looking for a portable laptop for doing more work than play, then the Surface Pro 2 may work for you, or try the Sony Tap 11 Tablet PC (I researched the Sony tablet but choose the Surface because the Sony keypad does not attach to the tablet during use). If you are looking for a toy to play with, then better go for one of the lower priced and sleeker ipad or android tablets.

best tablet/laptop hybrid ever !!

The version 2 is as great as the original pro. Haskell processor makes power management super efficient and boost by at least by 2.5 hours extra! With Windows 8.1, this tablet/laptop is the best bargain you can have!

A great ultrabook with tablet capabilities

I'm coming over from a 2011 MacBook Air and while I was initially a bit concerned about how I would like this, it turns out it's pretty great. I'm still getting used to the workflow in Windows 8.1, It's not bad, just different. By and large, this is physically the same as the first Surface Pro, but the battery life is much improved. I still don't find this to be an all-day device, but I haven't yet met a laptop that truly is. Between the 200GB of Skydrive that they throw in, the 64GB Micro SDXC card I threw in and the included 128GB SSD, I have no worries about the amount of storage space that comes standard, but your mileage may vary. The build quality is fantastic. Microsoft really puts the full-time PC manufacturers to shame. Everyone that's seen this machine is just blown away by how good it looks and feels and how well it's put together. The Surface Pro 2 is a bit heavy when it comes to pure tablet use, but it's not a bad trade-off when you consider that this is the most power you can currently find in such a small tablet package. The built-in kickstand works far better now that it's two-stage. I actually don't use the first stage at all and I wonder how people with the first generation machine can stand the original angle. The new angle is much better for the majority of use cases. The only things I'm disappointed with, that they'll likely fix for the next generation, are the fingerprint-prone case and glass screen. These issues have been addressed on the Surface 2, so it's only logical to expect them to do the same for the pro version. If they can improve the weight and make it a bit thinner, it will be absolutely perfect.
