Good Quality

I've always wanted a tablet with laptop capabilities and that can run windows 10. I already own a relatively high power desktop, so I wasn't looking for something for gaming, but more for general use, school, and work. You can do some light gaming on it. I'd recommend using minimal graphic settings when gaming to save power, and avoiding lag. If you do this the surface pro 4 tends to make the battery last 1.5-2 hours at a full-charge, using battery saver settings when gaming. The back of the surface can get a bit hot when gaming. The cooling system in it is quiet though, barely noticeable. If you want to listen to music or watch videos the speakers on this are loud and battery life, off power saver and full brightness, seems to be about 4.5-5 hours on a full charge. I would say battery is as advertised when using it for writing documents, reading, researching online, seems to be able to handle itself even with dozens of web pages open at a time, multiple videos running at the same time, also while running office software. The surface pro 4 looks and feels high quality when using. Got it on-sale, during boxing day sales week. Wish this was more of a package deal with the keyboard. I ended up purchasing the alcantara keyboard with it because I liked the look of it. Purchasing the keyboard with this is a must for full experience. I use the stylus all the time. The touch screen works great, and I find myself using frequently in laptop mode without the attached keyboard, using the on-screen keyboard button because it is perfect for holding and typing with my thumbs. I feel that the Microsoft brand name really added to the price, but, at the same time I realize this is the future of portable laptops and there is nothing else like this. I have already looked at other brands of 2in1 laptops, but for me this is the standard. I am definitely a fan. I would recommend this to anyone who was thinking about a premium portable computer that runs windows 10.

Bought device. Got home. Plugged in and booted. Saw the surface logo and setup screen. Started adjusting language on setup screen and the screen just completely faded to black. No amount of rebooting or shutting down will turn it on. Don't even get a surface logo.... this is a surface I purchased to replace a surface 3 that died on me out of warranty.... if this is really the build quality that is being touted by Microsoft and these are designed to fail as they are then I don't see the worth in this product...

Didn't know what to purchase Mac vs. Microsoft - UGH!!

Love Apple - was going to buy a Mac. I'm a touch screen - pen person. Bang for buck - I'm loving my Surface Pro 4. Hard decision, but I'm really glad I made it.

very polyvalent

6 months and still very happy with my 128 gb. screen is beautiful. fast enough. I bought a 200 gb microcard and leave it inserted.. my movies and music are on that card.. my iPad has been collecting dust .

Hands up,east, west, and south the best laptop/tablet/computer/electronic device I have ever witnessed.

Excellent experience with pen and touch screen.

The best device out there in the category. Microsoft got everything right except for not bundling the keyboard with the surface. 5 star is only for the device. As for Best buy shopping experience 1 star. Went to the store in Beacon hill to pick it up and waited for about 10 min before a sales guy Omar showed up only to pitch the Extended 3yr service contract and Antivirus. When I asked him question about the actual product he had no clue all he was pitching was for the extended service contract in spite of repeatedly telling him that I was not interested. When I went to pay at the counter he was again going to add the service contract. I almost felt like walking away without buying. This why people avoid the Brick and Mortar. I will never go to the store again just buy online and don't have to deal with the used car mentality sales people.

Great work tool

I've been using the Surface Pro 4 for about a month now and as my first tabletPC, I'm happy with what it brings to the table. Granted, I did my research before buying, because this part of the market is rather easy to get lost into, so I'd recommend doing the same. Many reviews were mentioning battery life being a bit short. I didn't install a lot of software on it (which means there isn't too much running in the background compared to someone else's use of the product) and it's lasting the better half of a day with average use at about 75% screen brightness (the biggest power consumption on most devices). The i5 processor delivers well in all my tasks. No need for the energy saving mode in my opinion. If ever it heats up, fans can slightly regulate the system with remarkably low noise. There's only one hiccup design-wise, the kick stand isn't the most practical system when using it on your lap since it needs considerable space to achieve the right angle to face the screen when sitting upright. For some who prefer more manual ways, the single USB port might seem like a shortcoming, but then again everything is accessible through networking nowadays, so easily manageable. Welcome to the digital age. It's well built, slim and easily portable through the daily commute (which was my main reason for buying a tabletPC in the first place). Oh and there aren't any spamware, no more than what you would have with another company, since it's a Microsoft product.

Good with some bugs

Overall, I love the surface and find that it offers a lot in terms of a lightweight portable laptop. That said, the first surface 4 pro I purchased came with a manufacturing error that's happened to quite a few users. Basically, the touch screen stops working and can't be fixed by restarting, factory reset or updates. Its to be noted that this was less then a week after purchase. The tech guys at best buy were also unable to fix it and got an exchange (though the store had none in stock so I was without a computer for over a week.) My new surface works fine, I've had it for a few weeks and there hasn't been a repeat issue so far. For future buyers, just be aware of this issue and if it starts happening, bring it in immediately so as to cash in on the thirty day warranty!

Bad Product

This product is not good, especially for the money involved. I am a student and I tried to use this exact product to take notes and annotate PDFs for my various courses. This should be easy for a device that has so much processing power and ram when compared to other tablets. Especially considering it comes with a costume digital stylus. The apps that are associated with note taking and PDF annotation are rubbish, unreliable and full of bugs. The battery life is very bad, 5 hours max when using it for the basic functions mentioned above. Google Chrome crashes a lot. Buying the keyboard is basically mandatory. This product is simply too expensive for how poorly it performs. It tries to be too much all at once and ends up being an unstable, unreliable product.

The face and finger print access creeps me out

are there any other options? One with a pen?

Overall very good

As the title suggests, I am overall very happy with this. As some others suggest here, the price tag was a bit too large, but it's finally a tablet that has completely replaced my laptop. I use Visual Studio for coding, and do the other regular stuff on it (i.e. browsing, opening office docs, etc.) and it can handle all of them with no issues. Also, the stylus is awesome (did a screen-sharing through skype and the other side was able to follow my talk through the on-screen drawing). The keyboard is rather comfortable too. On the negative side, I guess the battery-life could be improved and the price is a bit steep. Oh the track-pad fees a bit too slippery (but I suppose the trackpad is really not part of the Surface so I'm not sure if it fits within the review)

Surface pro 4

I have been working with computers since the 1980s, so I have seen a lot of changes in computer hardware. The surface pro 4 has an excellent design; I love the resolution of the tablet/screen and the backlit keyboard. I purchased the i5 processor model and it does what I need. The stylus is great for drawing pictures or writing but it is not a replacement for a mouse! I would rather use my finger to navigate on the screen then the stylus! The stylus is frustrating and should function "click wise " like a mouse. The battery life is definitely not 9+ hours so I'm not sure where that number came from. I found the battery lasts 5 or 6 hours. Overall a nice computer and portable for travel

I do not recommend it!

I got a Surface Pro 4 a few weeks ago, but it had several issues that I decided to return it. To name the issues: 1- It randomly wouldn't wake up when I pressed the power button. It was really annoying as I had to keep the power button and wait for a restart. 2- The battery life was about 2-3 hours for a normal tasks of the tablet such as watching youtube videos.. not even multi-functioning. 3- It would freeze frequently during the normal tasks such as using google chrome. 4- The pen would not do some of the functions that it was supposed to do such as the "flicks".

Surface Pro 4

Overall a good notebook. I have had many in my life and my favourite was always the Sony Vio but they don't make them any more. The tablet plus keyboard is excellent, but it is a bit heavy as I use it only for travel

great for school

the stylus pen is very useful in school. The start up of the comp is really fast. Everything loads fast. don't buy this if you're looking to play games aswell. It isn't intended for that. One thing I can recommend microsoft to do is improve their sound recording and video recording. No one seems to mention that. It has a terrible mic quality. oh and i wish the keyboard could be strapped on instead of magnetic. other than that it's a fantastic hybrid tablet/laptop. 4/5 rating

Website doesn't show the magnetic snap keyboard...why? Nor does it offer it in black.. the dock is expensive but leaves room for expansion.

Pricey but fantastic!

I didn't know if I was going to wait for the iPad pro but on seeing the price of the Apple product decided to go with this machine - I'm so glad I made the right decision! It looks like the iPad pro 128 GB and this are about the same price, but this comes with a stylus AND it's a full PC. Instead of downloading movies and trying to figure out how to transfer them to the iPad I can download and view directly on this device. And why wouldn't I? The screen is gorgeous - perfect for showing friends movies and photos. The stylus feels great, and combined with one note turns the machine into a do-everything device, from a full blown database editing tablet to a look up a recipe kitchen helper. I can sit on an airplane and run the full version of Fruity Loops and Ableton - miles ahead of Garageband. I can run full Photoshop and Premier, I can run Sony Vegas. Downsides are storage - you WILL need an external hard drive but no tablet manufacturer has got around this. You also will need to shell out for the keyboard - but it's great. I have no regrets, I'm sure if you do your homework you won't either!

Great with a few drawbacks

My 1st Surface - does many things very well, is light weight, very fast, resolution is high - very very clear. The drawbacks I've experienced: - the battery seems to lose charge when the Surface is turned off - lost 12% battery life over 40 hours - when connected to a projector for presentations, sometimes it gets a little flaky - once mouse stopped working entirely, another time the mouse wouldn't grab what I was trying to click on, another time I had to manually tell it that it was connected to a projector.

Love it!!

This is my third Surface Pro...and coming from the Surface Pro 3, the question was always: will it be worth the upgrade because the Pro 3 was amazing! The answer...yes. I love this device...they took a great product and made it better, much better!
