amazing device

if you're debating on whether or not you want to purchase this tablet/pc just do it. easily replaced my laptop. Really fantastic for note-taking at school and multitasking whilst doing so

Pen wouldn't calibrate

Cons are Windows updates take way too long, I had to create an account with Microsoft, then the pen wouldn't calibrate. Software is cluttered with useless apps. MS Tech support was friendly but couldn't resolve the issue. I don't know if there are any good things about the device. I returned it.

Love...Love...Love This 3 In 1 Surface Pro 4

Is it a Desktop, a Laptop or a Tablet? Call it whatever you want to call it. No matter what it's called it will live up to the name. Granted I have not had a lot of computers in my lifetime but I can tell you that this one is the fastest and smoothest running that I have ever had. I am thoroughly impressed with what it can do and how fast it can do it. The tasks that I need it to do it does flawlessly and with vigor. I use it to run Office 2016, Excel and Word and it makes short work of anything that I ask of it. It hooks up to my 5G channel on my modem/router combination without even a hiccup and stays hooked up for as long as I need it to. I also bought the Microsoft keyboard which works like a charm and the HDMI Adapter so I can stream movies with it. The key to streaming movies and staying hooked up to your Internet is the speed of your ISP plan. The faster your Internet connection the better the online streaming works without buffering. I'm not one to write lengthy glowing reviews about products unless they deserve them and this Microsoft Surface Pro 4 256GB Intel Core i5-6300U deserves every glowing comment I give it. Nothing but satisfied with this purchase.

Surface Pro is really good (from long time user).

I do not own Surface Pro 4 but I do own Surface Pro 3 (i7 and 8GB of RAM). I thought that I would write review anyways because my opinion as a long time user might be helpful to some of you. I owned surface for well over a year now and one thing I can tell you is that surface might not be cheap but it is well worth the price. I bought 23 inch monitor and docking station for surface and now my surface pro is my laptop, tablet and PC. (literally there is no need for any other hardware unless you are PC gamer, then surface is not good for you.) I use surface pro at work and at home and I use it A LOT. I sign contracts and do other work related stuff on my surface and at home I browse the internet, watch movies and play some basic games Surface pen is highly useful especially if you like to take notes or edit PDF files. I bought Microsoft surface Pro 4 keyboard for my surface Pro 3 and OMG how much difference this keyboard makes. Surface Pro 4 keyboard is really good. So far Surface been solid given how much I use it. I never had any major problems with it and I never had to send it for repairs. Firmware and Windows 10 updates make surface more and more useful. Battery life on surface is ok but I would recommend to have charger in your bag all the time with you. Overall surface is one amazing machine and I would buy it again. I do not see myself buying laptop or any other tablet. Surface is just that good.

I think I'm going to learn to love it

I have only had this product for about a week and have not loaded Office yet. I ordered the more expensive keyboard and it makes an excellent transition from my laptop. The little pointer pen is handy and the magnetic clip on is a nice touch. I have logged about three hours on the machine so far and find that the little light pen does not always work. It has to be tapped three or four times either on screen or old mouse pad. Annoying in a new gizmo. Window 10 is quite different from my laptop so I can't be fair about the transition there. For me, it is quite a learning curve. To sum up, I'm pretty sure I'd by the Surface 4 again.

Surface Pro 4 with docking station

As usual, I find the Surface tablets overpriced but they are truly a replacement of my desktop, laptop and tablet. I purchased a 256GB i5 Surface Pro 4 with a docking station and keyboard. The docking station works great and to this point, I haven't found any problems with connecting and disconnecting. The only problem I have found with the Surface is that the network adapter does not work properly with my Netgear R7000 router using the 5GHz band. When I connect to that band, the network is constantly dropping and reconnecting every 5-15 minutes. I tried Microsoft support but they were no help. I does work properly on the 2.4GHz band so I'm stuck using it.

Color me surprised

Well to my surprise I wanted this device after the seeing how refined it has become over the last 3 iterations of the device. Even with the myriad of complaints of issues purposely directed at the surface alone which was clearly false as other mobile devices running the 6th gen intel + w10 had the same issues people ignored the fact. After running updates the device started to shine and prove its worth as the majority of issues the myriad had foretold had not reared their heads. The battery life is as advertised it survived an entire day of school taking notes and the occasional youtube videos and watching movies from the drive with 50% brightness I was able to watch 4 movies straight which totaled to 9 hours and was left with about 10% battery left. I didn't expect the device to produce the claimed 9 hours battery life under heavy use like the myriad of ignorant individuals whom assumed Microsoft's claims of 9 hours of use pertained to either gaming or completely maxing out the unit doing heavy video encoding. But I have a desktop for heavy duty tasks such as gaming. All in all the Surface pro 4 is a device that I would recommend to anyone wanting something that has a decently long battery life as well as the general horse power to complete any general task you would need for school.

Started out loving it but then there were issues.

At the beginning all went well. I love the look and feel of this product. The screen is very clear and the colours are great. I purchased the Surface Pro Arc Mouse as well and it's very nice. One note, Microsoft touts this as a laptop replacement but then the keyboard should be included. It is an expensive adder. Then I noticed that the battery life indicated fluctuated wildly and even at full charge would show only 2 hours of power left while just doing word processing. Also it loses battery life while shut down which is very inconvenient. The problems really started when the Surface 4 would not power up after shutting down or charging. In 2 weeks of owning this product this has happened at least 8 times. I had to press the power button along with the volume button for 15 seconds to reboot it. After this you have to update many settings and drivers. Very annoying. I've since installed some product updates. Hoping this solves the problem or this unit is going back for warranty. I really want to like this product. If the power issues get fixed I'll give it a better review.

Not perfect out of box experience

I bought the 8GB/256GB version Surface Pro 4, just a few days ago. The Pen mated via BT but the tablet did not utilize the pen until after all the updates had been applied. Previous to doing the updates, there were some devices that did not have working drivers. After doing updates and rebooting about 4 or 5 times after a few hours of playing, the tablet started to work as expected, and the Pen worked. After that, I had the surface freeze once. Good performance. I have a number of my development tools installed without any issues. Very nice quality screen. Only one USB port is a little annoying. No WiFi problems. No touch problems. No Keyboard problems. Battery indication appears to be a calculation and jumps around by a few hours up and down. **intentional??** A tad on the expensive side compared to a Miix 700. I didn't feel comfortable just getting the 4GB RAM models. I haven't utilized sleep mode yet so I don't know if it works very well. I know there have been a few times when the unit wakes and the camera for facial recognition does not turn on. A few niggly issues but the form factor and keyboard and screen are quite ergonomic and easy to read. I thought less than 12" would not be so good for viewing, 12.3" is perfect for me. GG4 is awesome for a glass front. It'll never scratch, fingers crossed. Not much for instructions. Took me a bit to figure our how to open the pen due to the small print in the tiny manual. I took the plastic tag out not knowing that it doesn't have to be removed... DOH! lol. Scanty instructions. I feel 5 Stars is in order since I like the device and it will be improved over time. Time will tell if it is reliable.

Nice device but manufacturing flaws

I'm on my 3rd device now and so far this one is the worst. The battery doesn't last as long as the last ones, the backlight/LCD bleed is worse and this one gets very hot. The pen button feels very different, in a bad way, than the last. The finish on the back is uneven, one corner of the device is rough the rest is smooth. I was expecting more out of a [price] device. It seems there is a serious QA problem or I'm very unlucky.

Battery Life

Concept is great, nice design, good speed. Battery life is terrible though, could not justify the expense for 6 hours of operation. Returned product and purchased a Dell 9343, similar specs, but way better battery life. Sorry MS, but it is what it is

5 stars with a but....

I'll start off with that i speculated, and I was wrong on all my speculations. Can you use this like a laptop? Heck yeah, it works great on the lap, works great in bed, works even better on a desk ;) Battery Life? Seems decent considering it doesn't have room to put a battery in the keyboard. Tablet Mode? I was skeptical it was best tablet on the market, i bet the only thing it's lacking in this department is possibly battery life, and possibly app store. Overall? One of the best devices on the market. Recently i've owned the macbook, macbook pro, xps 15 and xps 13, and sony vaio tap. Aside from ios development, this device could replace all 3. Here is the but, I went to the local best buy store, they had no new units in stock. I got to buy a open box unit with 5% off it, and 20% off the keyboard so I saved about 120 bucks. good deal for a new item. I did some windows updates and the device crashed, and ended up having to do a chkdsk c: /F /R cause it went into a loop of trying to repair it self. helped me out right away great site, so i was only down for a few minutes.

I'm a convert.

Moving from Mac after being dissatisfied with Apple for various reasons and numerous expenses. They were too slow to get a pro tablet out, and instead of being a mac tablet, it's just a big expensive ipad. I needed to invest in a single device that does it all for at least 2 years. After caving into co-workers harassing me about the Surface, I tried one, and bought one. After a bit of learning curve, installing office and getting itunes installed, I am good to go! Couldn't be happier. The pen is great. I still use my ipad here and there, but my wife uses it for little games and skype. We'll keep the ipad. My MacBook however is retired. Good riddance. I could have only afforded an air at this point anyways. My surface pro is a better value and now I get to enjoy patch tuesdays like the rest of Microsoft's customers. Lol. The funny thing is beyond itunes, I have been using Microsoft 's software for years!

Worth the upgrade from SP3

I had a SP4 i7 reservation with the MS Store but cancelled it. I was mainly going to buy it for the upgraded Iris graphics but decided against it since I was not looking to do any intense gaming on it. I have a desktop for that. I was not disappointed in getting the i5 SP4 to replace my SP3 i5. It works beautifully, right out off the box. Faster, slimmer device, bigger, better screen, and Windows Hello is totally badass! Works as intended. I use this for business meetings, presentations, and to consume media. Highly recommend! And, the Best Buy service was top notch too.

Very fast, light and stunning screen. Just little too over priced.

Not so impressed with Windows Surface Pro 4

I would still go with Mac, quality and performance wise

  • from Toronto, ON

Faster, lighter, and thinner than last year's model with upgrades to pretty much all internal components from thermal management to display to pen.

  • from Toronto, ON

Love It

Upgraded from the latest retina MacBook 12" 2015. The Surface Pro 4 runs smoother and faster; the best Surface Pro yet. For the price, you get the latest Skylake processor, hybrid liquid cooling system, IGZO display, and a stylus that supports 1024 degrees of pressure sensitivity. The screen improvement alone is worth the upgrade!
