Nabi 2 is worth the money

With the update to Google Services and access to the Play store this product becomes a 5 out of 5. It's responsive, good battery life, great pre-loaded apps and parental controls. Bumper is a nice touch too.

Our kids love it!

While deciding what tablet to get our kids for Christmas we came across the Nabi. The reviews were terribly mixed but we decided to take a chance on them because the price was right and it looked pretty solid. We got the tablets about a month before Christmas 2013 so we could work with them and have them ready to play on Christmas morning. We had heard rumors about app availability in Canada but we immediately we had access to the Amazon App store. There was some pre-loaded content (mostly videos and some websites) that didn't work, but it wasn't anything we missed. We found the tablets very sturdy and responsive. A couple of weeks before Christmas we received an email informing us to update the Nabi to Android 4.2 and we would have access to the Google Play store. The update did allow us access to Google Play and even seemed to speed up the Nabi's repsonse when rotating the screen. The kids (3yrs and 6yrs) have had nearly a week on them and have put them through the motions. There's more than enough to hold their attention, we haven't had any major malfunctions or freezing, the volume has been good for games and movies, and the volume control is easy enough for my kids to operate. The battery life has been good enough, I wouldn't want them on the tablet for too long of a duration anyway, we've just made sure to charge the tablets when the kids go to bed. We're running into a few shortcomings when searching for accessories (screen protectors or new bumpers), we've found that we have to find US retailers willing to ship to Canada, but it's workable.

Google Apps

Google play finally on the Nabi 2 plus undated to OS Jellybean 4.1. Daughter loves it and so does her mother! Watching netflix on this tablet. Just like a regular tablet but very kid friendly especially with the bumpers!

Great Tablet for Kids 2-80

We've had our nabi 2 tablets since they were released in the summer of 2012. Our children thoroughly enjoy playing with and learning on this tablet. We've found the customer support on the nabitablet Facebook page to be useful and quick to respond. We highly recommend this over any of the toy tablets and other overpriced tablets on the market. It seems as if some customers that have left reviews are not quite as tech savvy as they may try and lead others to believe. I'll try to respond to as many of their issues as I can, so that you the consumer get the actual facts when deciding to purchase this device for your children. CHARGING CABLES: If parents allow their children to pull the cords out themselves than they are bound to break. My son knows enough to be careful, but generally asks one of use to unplug it for him. If the charging USB cable does happen to break then Fuhu will replace it if you contact customer support through Facebook. APPS: The nabi comes preloaded with a number of apps, many of which are demos. These are easily uninstalled to make room for new ones. The tablet also has a lot of internally developed apps such as Chore List, Fooz Kids Videos, Fooz Kids Websites, Fooz Kids University (English, Math, Science, Social Studies), Spinlets+TV, Spinlets+ Music, *Mini Mogul, *Time Controls, Treasure Box and *Wings University which you are not going to find in other app markets. * Available after an Over-the-Air updates. You also have access to the nabi App Zone which is a small market with apps specific for kids, which often have bundles of apps for sale. Additionally since Amazon Canada has finally been upgraded to have an Appstore, you can easily download and install apps from their Appstore app. Amazon also provides a regularly paid for app for free everyday. While they are not always great, the ones that are kid-friendly keep the tablet fresh for those little minds wanting to expand. If you're missing the Google Apps there are number of fairly simple workarounds for sideloading apps from your smartphone or computer onto the tablet. BROKEN SCREENS: The LCD screens are made of glass and while the protective red bumper that comes with tablet protects if from bumps and drops, if a focused force hits the screen it is going to break the layers underneath rendering it unusable. Same thing would happen to your Nexus 7 or iPad. Google nabi drop tests for a demonstration of the durability of the tablet. Fuhu has a screen replacement program which requires you to pay to ship in the broken device and a fee for the replacement. Canadians would need to speak specifically with customer support, as the online form is not formatted for Canada addresses. STORAGE SPACE: While the hardware specs state that it comes with 8GB of storage, as with all other tablets on the market, this includes the space taken up by the Android OS and the nabi Mode overlay. As the nabi 2 tablet comes with a bunch of other content the space available is a bit less then my Nexus 7. With the latest update installed and all of the preloaded apps that can be uninstalled removed the tablet has 4.24GB of free space. I've easily had 50 plus apps installed at one time but have learned to keep on only the favorites and to cycle through new ones periodically. Just because you grab it from the Amazon website, as a free app, doesn't mean you have to install it right away. SETUP: As long as you know your wifi router password, have an e-mail address and create a password you can remember you'll be setup and going in a few minutes. Additionally you can add your credit card to purchase apps through the nabi App Zone. TOTALLY CANADIAN FRIENDLY: As I said we've had ours since last summer and the only apps that do not work are the Nook app from a recent update and that is because Barnes & Noble does not have a presence in Canada. The other was the Cartoon Network app which requires cable service subscription and only

Fantastic product!

My daughters (6 and 8 years old) have enjoyed their Nabi2s for over a year, they have not grown tired of them and they are their most used electronic device. We have had some issues with some software not being available in Canada, but with persistence, much of that has been solved and is now accessible to them. There is a problem with the charging cords not working, Nabi is aware of this and replaces the cords for free. We did have an issue with the front line Customer Service saying that they would not ship anything to Canada. Again, with persistence and going higher up the ladder we found out that there are shipping restrictions, but replacement cords and Nabis will be shipped to Canadian customers. In our experience, the front line Customer Service Reps don't know what they are talking about when it comes to Canadian issues, but with perseverance and not taking the first answer you get as the correct one, everything gets figured out. The Nabis are worth the extra effort. They are durable. They are the perfect size and shape for smaller hands. They are loaded with great apps and features. They are a fully functioning android tablet, my daughters even do their online homeschooling on them. As Canadians, we can now access the separate app store that Nabi suggests you use, allowing for access to seemingly unlimited apps. We are thrilled with the Nabis!

lousy product, worse support

My 3 year old loved it for about 2 months. Then he got bored because the content was limited. A lot of the features do not work in Canada. Then the screen broke on the inside and it hasn't worked in over a month. [...] I have owned it for about 7 months and have reserved myself to the fact it will never work again. I am stuck with it and no way of getting it fixed so the least I can do is warn others to stay away from the product. I would give it a zero if it was an option.

Good product

Got it for my 2 years old on his second birthday, who is as Tech Savvy as Windows 8 developers wishes to be, and he hated it. The tablet was too heavy for him. Not too responsive. And he was missing all the good stuff from his Samsung Galaxy S3. So he threw it away after reviewing it for a couple of hours. It has a good and solid built quality. Very nice rubber bumper on it. Too heavy tho. The sheer weight will tire you up in about 30 minutes. Not much in the mommy daddy mode either. No Google Play store access. Youtube app is not available either. You have to access youtube through web browser tho. Advertised as 8GB internal memory, it had 3.1gb free space when it came. .9gb was taken by apps and O/S, so pretty much half of memory then as advertised. And not to forget the battery life, which painfully low. Max 2 hours (i.e. with tea, lunch, coffee, cookie and milk breaks in between), and you're done. Since I decide to return it, I didn't dip it in the tub to see if its water resistant, nor I whacked it on the ground to test the shock resistance claim. Verdict: Get it if your kids are not tech savvy and want a simple and useful tablet for basic learning purposes. For the price, you can't go wrong, if all your kids want is a tablet with some useful learning apps on it. If you want something more robust, that serves the purpose for you and your child, then you gotta get something else. This is a very limited feature, to the point, for non tech savvy kids, kind of tablet.

Great product

I bought 3 of these tablets for my grandchildren as Christmas gifts and just placed an order for a 4th tablet for the youngest (who is 2) because he won't leave his brother's tablet alone. The Nabi people have excellent customer service and the glitches others are complaining about were solved with a little patience. Christmas Day the servers were overloaded, but those who waited got free coins and other free offers for their patience. My grandchildren LOVE this and the parents love the parental controls. The only complaint is that the battery runs out of juice before they are willing to set it down!

Not Canada friendly

This unit has been nothing but a disappointment for us and our son. Most apps and programs don't work, you can't access anything Canadian but the US items aren't available for us. The radio feature would be a super feature if you could access local stations, but you can't even input postal codes - it only accepts zip codes. My son can still play the few games that have came installed in this unit, but anything else is a bust. Incredible waste of money and best buy should not be supporting this product to Canadians who can't fully use this product. If this product was both US and Canada friendly it would be an incredible tablet and perfect - but it's not. Again, it's been incredibly disappointing and frustrating, especially as its his first "tablet" that he received for Christmas.

Does not work in Canada

I bought this for my son for christmas this year. We have had nothing but problems with it. i would say that apporximately 50% of the feature on this tablet do not work in Canada so buyer beware. Nabi recommends that you purchase apps from [an American website], as canadians we are unable to do this. This tablet has been nothing but a huge disappointment.

Great tablet, make sure you update software!

We bought this for our boys for christmas, its easy to use. The bumper it comes with takes away fears of accidental drops although we keep them sitting down to use it. App store wouldnt allow purchases until the core software was updated but once done it works flawlessly. Definately recommended!

Nabi 2 great gift

Got this for dd. She got on it and began playing right away. No learning curve for her moving from the iPad. Set up before Xmas so no problems with current service issues. Love, love, love it!

Poor tablet with poor support

I purchased the Nabi 2 tablet for my little one for Christmas. Unfortunately when I tried installing Apps Christmas day it did not work. Nabi servers are apparently down for the foreseeable future. This leaves Canadians with no way to add apps to the device. In my opinion this is not acceptable and hence I returned the device.
