buyer beware

buyer beware, read reviews and majority of reviews are correct, if majority claims good then it'd good, if majority claim bad then bad. I. happen to buy this product [....]. you do need a newer tv that has hdmi connections plus after buying this you need to buy hdmi cable, won't work on older tv's , got it hooked up you tube and netflix plus couple games the rest in foreign language. there is no channels you can add to it and not going to in future so what it comes loaded with your stuck with, already obsolete before you buy it. this could not play and keep up with internet, this is designed to keep up with internet in their country and not north.america. so disappointed didn't work, have extra expense , very little channels that's actually in English I just returned it got my money back. both thumbs down.

Excellent !

I am just writing this review because of so many negative comments about this product. I have bought this product just to keep my laptop away from my TV. Our family love to watch Netflix and youtube. Both are great with the device. One of the thing that I like most is to download the neotv remote in my smart phone. Now I can control the TV when sitting on the sofa by the android smart phone. One of my criticisms is that Netflix takes time (about 10-15 seconds) to start. However, when it starts streaming, it goes smoothly. I definitely recommend this to buy who want to enjoy youtube and netflix and save some money.

what a waste

what a waste. only good thing is netflix and you tube, I was expecting more. called customer service, there is no add on or any downloads for this or any of netgear product. so *** bucks plus I had to buy a hdmi cable separately more expense. , took it back and downloaded netflix app on my android phone and already has you tube, what a waste of money, phone netflix app actually worked better ,no buffering , and it's free app. do not buy, your apple or windows or android phone is better than this junk. should ban sales in North America. no stars deserved.

Know what you're getting...

This is simply for web tv. YouTube, Netflix and other available free and pay services. It doesn't turn your tv into a computer. Plug in you're laptop for that. For Netflix it's okay but the remote is flimsy and must be pointed directly at box to work. I returned it after a few weeks.

bad

bought this, didn't come with hdmi cable, just another expenses on top. my language is English, this is Canada, can't understand mire than half the stuff. you tube nothing what I expected youtube to be. not bad , this product I owned for about 4.5 hours before getting my money back. please avoid and get something that has a name the company stands up to and backs up what they sell. deserve no stars from me. please don't make the same mistake I did. get apple or Sony, at least they are well known and reputable.

not worthy it

no web browser, yes you tube is there but it don't work like a computer getting you tube. it limits and restricts you, mist channels cant understand cause its not English. gotta pay for mist channels and games that you can understand. true you can never get more than what this thing comes with. true you gave to buy your own hdmi cable, true your tv has to have hdmi connection. true games are there but you have to rent them. not worth it. spend a little more for something that actually had as good reputation for a name product, you'd be glad you did.

STOP, ...DON'T BUY..., STOP

caution do not buy, if you only want netflix and nothing else ok, but if you expect more like you tube, web browsing or to expand with add ons, it dont exists, not ever gonna get anything else. pay. $50 plus tax then buy separately a hdmi cable more money then your tv had to have hdmi or.you wasted your money. spend a little more and get something with a good reputation and much better.don't deserve any stars.

just wrong

no web browser, no you tube. just netflix , can't understand the rest cause its not in English. can't add nothing to this. you only have what it comes with. call customer service, oh well , it is what it is, nothing like the others, at least you get stuff and add to it but not netgear nope they Evan make you buy a hdmi cable.on your own, an extra out of pocket expense. threw it in the outdoor firepit, not worth the gas to take it back. do research on internet read reviews for all products before buying anything

seriously

this product is so bad. netflix and 8 games and no chance of any future channels added, can't add or download anything. no web browser , no you tube. rest of channels on box dont speak English. to tip it off after buying this product, you stiff have to shell out more money for a hemisphere cable, because it don't come with it and is useless without it. won't work if you don't have Hemingway on your tv. don't deserve any stars.

connected really nicely to my Netgear router. Got it two months ago. In the beginning I lost connection to netflix once or twice, but now its great - nice connection. The remote control is nice - one button to netflix. I would recommend this product.

Pathetic

I bought this after reading online that they'd added a DLNA renderer. Got it home and it couldn't see my wireless - which is unbelievable given there are 3 AP on 2.4 and another 3 on 5.8 (all broadcasting SSID). Manually entering the AP details allowed connection but this had to be done after every restart. Once connected there was a "My Media" app which found my server and played some video for about 5 minutes before locking-up after which I unplugged it. Came back to it a couple days later and decided to try with a wired connection in case that was the problem. After powering up it notified me that an update was available, "great, maybe they've fixed it" - nope! After the update the "My Media" app was gone and I haven't seen it since. The remote is pretty terrible as well, menu navigation is done with an 8-way pad so when trying to move up/down/left/right it often registers a diagonal instead causing whatever feature is mapped to that 'color' to be started. In fairness, the apps that are still present do seem to work, so if you're just looking a cheap Netflix streamer... maybe.

Try another product

I bought this mainly to watch Netflix and be able to browse the net on my TV. Nothing fancy, but this device still fails. It does not have a browser that I can find. I can't seem to find a way to load new apps. It is very slow. When I am finally able to watch Netflix the image looks blurry as if its been resized. No options to change it. I have an air mouse/remote, which I cannot use with this device since it does not have a usb port. I will be returning it tomorrow and trying a boxee.

look elsewhere

I had a lot of trouble getting this unit to work with my router. It can connect to the router, but "Fails to Obtain IP Address". If I keep trying it, it will connect (after 20 tries). Every other wireless device I have connects to my router seamlessly. After watching Netflix one day, I turned it off - turned it on next day and "Not connected to the Internet" - same deal, fails to obtain IP Address. The unit is slow to navigate through the menus, and it's a shame - the price and the options made it look attractive. I wouldn't suggest this unit to anyone, unless they connect via ethernet cable.

A near perfect media streamer

Right out of the box this device takes but a few minutes to setup and configure. The well-built remote has nice , clearly labeled buttons for direct access to popular streaming services like Netflix, YouTube , and more. This makes it ideal for grandparents and other less technical folks. It works well with either a wired or wireless network connection. Also, from the moment you connect it to the Internet the device will look to see if there is newer firmware available and if so prompt you to update. The only drawbacks to it are the lack of a USB and no DLNA capability. That means you cannot play your own content on this device. Also there is no included HDMI cable so make sure to pick one up if you don't have one already. Other than that, this device rocks. Very small, unobtrusive design. Super easy to install and get running. Highly recommended!

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT

You get what you pay for.It works for a couple of days, then after you do a firmware upgrade the unit stops working - then you have to spend an hour on the phone with their "tech support" (and I use the term lightly) -- save yourself the headache. Don't buy it.

Not Bad for the Price

A good basic internet streamer mainly for Netflix and Youtube. I can stream HD content by wireless. Many services do not work with Canadian ISP, such as Vudu or Hulu. Easy setup. Tiny box, low power use. Customisable menus. Cons: flimsy remote, will not work with your PC as a media server. A little slow on the menus.[...]
