good upgrade!

I just upgraded from my old Sony Nex-F3, and haven't read the entire user manual yet. My first impression is that most settings can be done via buttons instead of the menu, and the user manual is a great resource to learn all the functions. D610 is much bigger and heavier than a mirrorless camera, but the size and the weight are ok for a girl.

Fantastic camera, sub-standard lens

Excellent camera with features easily capable of producing pro-quality images. However two (common sense) things you need to be ware of. It only lives up to pro-expectations if you 1) pair it up with pro-quality lenses and 2) are fully aware of its advanced controls such as Active-D lighting, High Dynamic Range, Chromatic Aberration Reduction etc. While full automatic mode is convenient, you'd want to at least shoot semi-automatic (aperture or shutter priority) most of the time, if not fully manual. I went with the kit since this was my opportunity to leave the Canon camp and the lens sounded promising, also comes heavily discounted as part of the bundle. Big regrets. While it is capable of producing very sharp images at slow speeds (thanks to vibration reduction) it's distortion is horrendous. Also bokeh is very poor. Good for mainstream shooting, but if you are serious about quality then adding lenses is a must so get the body only and use the difference towards a better lens. I'd take a 50mm 1.4 Nikkor anytime over this zoom. For example paired with a 24-70 2.8 AF-S G ED and/or 80-200 2.8 AF-D ED you will have a setup that's hard to top.

Good photo quality buy not very user friendly

Upgraded my Nikon D3000 to D610 before March break. D610 is a really nice camera with good value, but its menu is a little bit confusing. Overall it's a good value camera for sure

Nikon D610

I am anxiously waiting for spring to test my NikonD610 outside so far using it indors to shoot portraits of my kids I love the results. Using the SB700 speedlight the results are amazing. I was also impressed with the results from the built in flash. The more I test the functions and the features of this camera I am convinced that I have made the right choice. The kit lens that came with the camera is a good value but I would like to upgrade once my budget allows. Hyder.
