Great bang for your buck.

I purchased this system a little over a month ago and I have to say I am quite happy with it. The audio quality and features are amazing for the price. I only ran in to two small issues with it: First: the wires for the rear speakers were both the same length and not quite long enough to route both cables around the room in the same direction (ie. running both cables to the left it wouldn't quite reach the furthest speaker) however because there are no proprietary connectors like some of the other budget systems I just grabbed some generic speaker wire and it was no issue. Second: If you want to connect a composite video source to the system you also need to have a composite output to the TV. It will not take composite in and send it to the HDMI out. For this reason I have the audio from my Wii going into the amp and the video plugged directly into the TV. Beyond that: the sound quality and features far exceeded my expectations and it is the kind of system where I can replace components individually as I want to upgrade.

Bang for the buck

I have quite a lot of experience setting up and tweaking sound systems (both custom builds and HTIBs) and this was by far the easiest system that I've worked on. After mounting the speakers and running the colour coded wires I dove into the receiver menu to tweak distances and channel specific audio levels. Setting the speaker distances and tweaking the audio levels was quick and easy as this is managed through a GUI overlaid on your display. The one drawback (imo) is that the subwoofer is not powered. I'm not a person that likes a tonne of bass but I like the option of upping the power levels for parties or sporting events. That being said the bass is still more than a enough for a small to medium sized room (which I would suspect the majority of these systems would be purchased for) so this will probably not be a concern for most buyers. Bottom line: Yes there are better HTIB systems available but nothing out there will provide the sound and system flexibility for the same price as the Onkyo HT-S3300 system.

Amazing system for your money

For this money I can't imagine finding a better system. This system has more power than I need along with many, many options that allow you to tweak the sound to your liking. I do wish the on-screen menu was more informative(like my Samsung LCD), but there are explanations in the manual that can help you with some of the features. Paired with a PS3...incredible movie and game sound. Highly recommend for anyone looking for something in this price range.
