Great buy

I have been with Ooma almost two years with no problems. Ported my rogers phone number over to ooma without a hitch. long distance charges are very reasonable. Voice quality is very good and considering I pay less than 5 bucks a month, I have saved alot of money compared to staying with Rogers. There is also home security available with Ooma which I will subscribe to as well.

Over a year - perfect home phone

Have used this for over a year now. Have saved a ton since turfing Bell then Rogers. This phone system does more for less. I have premier service which gives a 2nd number that we use for out of town relatives to call so it is local for them. My wife and I get emailed our voice messages. The call blocking features are great, rarely do we get telemarketers interrupting our dinners anymore. Have no idea how some have rated the Ooma poorly. 5 stars all the way

Great phone service

I have gone through many different voice over IP providers. Have switched to OOMA and have been using it for over a year now. So far it has easily been the best VoIP service I've used. Others have complained about call clarity, but I have found the call clarity to be great. So much better than the others. In fact, people on the other end of the line noticed a big difference too. For my setup, I do not use the OOMA handset. I have mine hooked up to a wireless Panasonic phone set up and I ensure my internet and the OOMA are plugged into a battery backup (in case I lose power at the house). Haven't had any drops, can hear others loud and clear, and the Panasonic phones offer great range. For me, I have had very good success with the OOMA system.

Extremely unreliable.

Yes it does save money but what's the point if the hardware is sooooo unreliable. I will be turfing this product very soon. Do not recommend purchasing.

unreliable to say the least

I have had this Ooma for just over a year now .... and if you want reliability, this telephone is not for you. While there are no monthly fees, the handsets seem to un-pair for no apparent reason ... It may be caused by sun spots, the phase of the moon, or the day of the week???? Or, perhaps it has spirits within???????? ... I'll never know, as the the "chat line" people will not look into trouble shooting other than for routine problems. The "Chat line" does provide a telephone number for extensive and involved fixes, but if the Ooma telephone is not working ... how does one telephone for help? Seriously Ooma??????? In short, VOIP may be the telephone of the future, but it sure has teething problems now. I would not recommend it until the problems are worked out.

Poor Customer Service

Right from the beginning, could not set up 911 service. They told me they would resolve problem and send me email when fixed. Almost two weeks later and still no email. Product will be going back to Best Buy soon if not resolved. The only respond when you trash talk them, and then it's always. Where sorry in the delay in getting back to you.

1 year and counting

Have been using Ooma for over a year now. Had some issues in the beginning as others mentioned but it was my equipment, old wifi router. Once I upgraded my router have had NO issues at all. I am using this in my small business that opened Nov 2015 and have no regrets. Have a second unit in my house and just bought a third to get rid of my rogers phone bill. Before you blame ooma like I did, do some research my old wifi router worked well but was 10 years old but not good enough for new technology. Make sure you buy a good router not a 24.99 model.

Scam Charged our visa 4 months after cancelled

Do not go with Ooma. Sure it sounds great but we had issues with this phone system since the moment we switched. Every morning our office phone would not work and we would have to call customer support for them to re-boot. Over night our no one could leave us messages and our company lost business. We cancelled after several months, obtained confirmation and ported our numbers out to Bell and Ooma continued to charge our credit card for 4 months. They refused to refund our money. DO NOT switch over it was a nightmare.

Really Bad

Had OOMA for almost three months as time went on the quality got worse and the service although very polite was also very wanting. Was issued a number not in my area code and should have taken that as an omen for things to come. Have cancelled account and will be tossing the equipment in the garbage so no one else will be frustrated with it.

Perfect for my needs

I have Ooma for about two years now. I only use a house phone because I have kids and want to be able to get to them using a land line if they don't answer the cell. I have had no issues with making phone calls or reviving calls from family and friends. The cost amazing.

Useless

I was not told that I could not port my number so everyone that called me has to pay long distance. I called cutomer service they then charge you a fee to keep you account open while you try to resell the pos. Then I called again tried to cancel again. She said we will give you 2 months free while you try to sell it I said what happens after 2 months Oh we charge you again I cancelled an threw it in the dump. Live and learn

Ooma telephone

I got the Ooma phone to use with the Xplornet satellite high speed internet service; I was afraid that it would not work with this internet service, but was pleasantly surprised to find that it generally does work quite well. There is the inevitable delay between one person saying something and the other person hearing what was said due to the internet signal going up to the satellite and back down again, but the sound is good except for some occasional distortion and jidder, which may be the result of using the satellite internet service. The phone would probably work even better using a terrestrial high speed internet service.

Great price, but watch for hidden things in terms of service

ooma says they pride them selves on the fact they are unlimited, a word of warning for anyone who may need to use there phone alot, for forwarding calls etc. there unlimited plan caps out at 5000 minutes a month. They advertise it as unlimited but it is not unlimited. Oh and good luck trying to cancel, they will ignore you like the plague

The best VOIP

1) Cheapest monthly fee after the initial purchase 2) Great real live customer support on the phone or online if needed 3) Great quality and never had rupture in signal 4) Billing is in Canadian dollars 5) Able to use WI-fi and Bluetooth ... what else could we ask for, maybe some better cellphone app...currently none available for Windows phone :(

Ooma

I have just had the unit up and running a few days now, but i can say that everything went smoothly with the set-up, porting ( which was very fast) and final details with Bell. No problems. The at-home set-up was a breeze and the sound quality is great. The Ooma desktop is great, giving you loads of info and options. Blocking specific numbers is especially handy. I was getting constant mystery calls from one 866 no. with Bell ( and no way to stop it) but with Ooma i was able to specify that particular no. to block, and voila, no more annoying calls. Pricing compared to Bell is wonderful and I look forward to saving big time. One thing to note is that 911 service is such that you have to be prepared to give your address if you make a 911 call. Everyone in the household or guests should be aware of this fact. Still, i would highly recommend Ooma.

After 3 months I started having problems, I can't call some of my contacts I get a busy signal, after calling them twice they haven't been able to fix my problem, in a week's time ooma will be history for me and I hope Best Buy will return my money.

Does it work with enterphone

We live in a condo and the front door buzzer is linked to our telephone. It seems to me that if we used this we wouldn't be able to open the door for visitors. Has anyone had experience with this? Their documentation doesn't touch on this, which suggests it cannot do what I need!

So far, so good!

We bought this to replace our home phone service which was through our cable/internet provider, and we felt was not worth the money we were paying each month since we hardly use it, but we like having a "land line" that we can use for messages and occasional long distance. We decided to give this a try, and it was super easy to set-up and it works as good as our old phone line did, if not better. We get all the features without the silly charges associated with them (most notably, call display and voicemail), plus all the other cool management features that come with Ooma. Also, I should note that we set it up on our home network which had a cable modem with just one ethernet port, an Airport Express with just one port, and although I did have to make some changes in the settings on the Airport Express, the Airport utility led me through that process and I have had no problems whatsoever with the setup. Overall, a good buy.

Like day and night compared to netTalk

After having nothing bu problems with a competitor including being approached by my phone company and there supplier encouraging me to go after the other. Not only did I find this most unprofessional, I was blown away that I would be out in the middle while not having any service because of a 2 million dollar debt which had nothing to do with me. Thank God for the amazing service of BEST-BUY, they went far beyond and gave me a voucher to make things right, even though it had nothing to do with them... i have ordered this product and can't say enough about the customer service, sound quality and durability of the product. I only wish that I have chosen Ooma to begin with and not have gone through this stress. Now I can continue my radiation treatment and keep in contact with family and when I'm home on the weekends, my Doctors could reach me id needed. Thanks BEST-BUY and Ooma.

Ooma setup

Set up was very quick and simple. Phone number was ported very quickly however I was not informed the day it was being done and was waiting for a very important call. My phone was dead for a couple of hours until I figured it out. I contacted Ooma and they switched my home phone number on. I am told I sound like I'm on my cell phone in a car and there is a slight echo on my end - I can hear what I am saying after I say it - a bit frustrating so I will have to talk to them about that. Will give a try.

Several fineprint and hidden costs..

The sound quality was good; set up was easy and quick, Basic plan is at minimal cost, but I found several hidden costs and fineprints as below. Also, one cannot downgrade to Basic plan in the first 60 days to actually test various features and limitations; and to decide to return or keep the device. Ooma customer services does not have access to verify such things by actually using Basic plan on their end. US based 1-800 nos. are not free, though all 1-800 nos. look just similar to each other. Not all international calling card (dialing service) nos. and conference call nos. are free. The website seems to mention that all charges of additional services and devices, except taxes, are to be in USD, but several charges appear in CAD on Ooma Canada's personal log-in/ account. Ooma App cannot receive calls unless subscribed to Premium plan. The device and website mentioned different requirements of the required internet speed. Ooma customers support provided conflicting answers to various above mentioned questions. I found that the voice quality is similar to other cheaper VOIP devices, and actually depends on your internet quality/ available bandwidth. The device is quite (approx. 4 times) expensive as compared to other VOIP services/ devices, esp. if you do not need additional devices that connect to Telo, or do not need a Premium plan.

Excellent Landline Substitute

Highly recommended as a landline substitute. Sound is as good as our landline. I installed the Ooma Telo on our four port modem instead of the router, which is supposedly a preferred architecture. I couldn't get it to function until our Internet Service Provider set up an additional MAC address so that the router and Ooma Telo could be connected to the modem. I have requested that our existing landline number be ported and are only part way through this process. Ooma Telo keeps us posted of the porting status. I have contacted Ooma Telo a few times via their chat feature and find their customer support to be very good. So far, so good.

Works great! no regret so far....

Installed the Ooma telo Oct 4th - number successfully ported Oct 15th. Had no issue with installation at all - within 10 mins had Ooma up and running. FEATURES I like: any voicemail left on Ooma- sends me a text message with a name & number. Had a hydro power outage last week, no problem, when Ooma is "offline" it re-directs the call to your Cell phone also (set up in settings). KEY to installation - physically disconnect your phone line to the house & have a high internet connection (need at least 180 kilobits upstream & downstream) Ooma is connected between my modem & WIFI router.

The very best in VOIP

I just got this device and just set it up but I gotta admit that this is the best investment I have made. Even if you decided to pay for all of OOMA's services, you still would be paying 80% less then a normal landline phone. And the quality is excellent. Sound for calls is superb. I really enjoy this and I hope they continue with this amazement in the next installments (versions).

Why oh why did I wait so long (to buy Ooma)?

I love my new Ooma! The connection quality is amazing, even on the international calls (I checked Europe and South America). Actually, I loved their service so much that I opted for their international unlimited plan. The basic plan (3.95/month) includes a gazillion of features (e.g. call ID, call blocking, voicemail, voicemail to email etc). You can choose their premier option for roughly 10 bucks per month to get extra features such as call forwarding, multiple device ring, additional phone number, or a discount on the international bundles, to name a few. You can prepaid your minutes as well. You can access your Ooma account online (where you can change the settings, add bundles, check the call log, block numbers, create contacts etc) or in Ooma mobile app. The app also works as a VOIP app, which means you can make or answer calls using your mobile (wireless or WiFi). No more dragging your cordless phone around when you're in the backyard. For Ooma to work properly, you will need a good internet connection. The premier plan has an option for call forwarding when your internet is down. This way you will never miss a call. Or, you can plug your backup landline into Ooma. Ooma offers number porting, but be prepared to choose a new number if you live in a small town. Also, it seems Ooma is becoming more and more popular as some area codes are not available anymore. I could not get 519, but didn't mind 647. I found Ooma pleasant to the eye (and ear) and the customer service very helpful. So, if 3.95 for the unlimited Canada calling sounds good to you, you should get Ooma.

Good Product, Great Call Quality, 4-Month Payback

Ooma Telo 2 internet phone has been up and running for two weeks now, and everything works great. Number porting from Bell took about 8 days, and there was a one day delay between Bell releasing our old number and Ooma picking it up. Bell automatically cancelled our home phone service once the number ported over -- our internet service with Bell was not affected. Once the porting was finished, we had to phone Ooma to get them to apply our old number to our account as the primary number in place of the temporary number that we selected when we first set Ooma up (otherwise the temporary number shows up as the caller ID when you phone someone). Call quality is great, and our original phone system c/w two cordless phones works perfectly. Ooma customer service was excellent both times we called them. Couldn't be happier with the way this worked out!
