Colours to reflect every mood
The Philips Hue starter kit comes with 3 Hue light bulbs that feature every shade of white light and all the colours in the spectrum. Create the feel of a sunset in the living room or set the perfect shade of light and brightness for reading a book in bed. The possibilities are endless.
Philips Hue smart light bulbs are a breeze to control. Using the Philips Hue app on your smart device, you can change tone, contrast, and colour with the touch of a button. You can also use the app to set an alarm that triggers the lights to pulsate, or set a timer to turn your lights on and off. Think: creating the impression you're home when you're not.
The starter kit comes with everything you need: 3 Hue A19 smart LED light bulbs, a bridge modem, power adapter, and Ethernet cable. Installation is super easy. Just screw the bulbs into standard E26 light sockets, plug in the bridge, connect it to your WiFi, and download the Philips hue app. Just like that, you've got your own smart lighting system that can connect up to 50 lights.
Long-lasting use and great compatibility
The Hue A19 smart LED light bulbs sport a 15,000-hour lifetime, so they're sure to light up your life for a long time. They're also compatible with a wide range of Apple and Android devices.
Works with Nest and works with HomeKit
Ask Siri to turn on your lights or set a scene. Connect with your Nest Cam or Protect alarm (each sold separately) to automatically turn off the lights when you leave, or flash red if smoke or carbon monoxide are detected. Whether it's for added convenience or enhanced safety, integrating Hue with your smart home ecosystem is easy.

i have had these lights for a week or so and all i can say is that i love them. i can't wait to see what the next bit of software for these bad boys i also got the lightsrtip on the back of my bed and it has classed up my room tenfold i can not recommend these any more oh and did i mention these are led not regular bulbs which means that you save on power
The new HomeKit enabled bridge allows you to control Hue lights with Siri and HomeKit compatible home automation apps, but the app supplied by Philips is unfortunately limited and (as of the release) fairly buggy.
It doesn't support room definitions, only Philips' "scenes", which means you need a third party app in order to control groups of lights if they're not part of a scene. Moreover, since scenes are limited to a specific colour and brightness setting, you need two scenes for the same lights in order to turn them on and off as a group.
The Siri setup in the Hue app can be buggy and can require you to go through non-obvious troubleshooting steps such as logging out and back into iCloud or resetting your HomeKit installation. I had to do this to get the lights working after upgrading the bridge and it was quite a chore.
These flaws can be mitigated by using 3rd party applications, but for the average person who expects the supplied Hue app to be the only thing they need, it can be a frustrating experience.
My last problem has more to do with Apple and HomeKit than Philips Hue, but there is nowhere that tells you exactly what you can and can't say to Siri to make your lights do what you want, and finding the right incantation can be frustrating. For me, Siri won't respond to "Set my bedroom light to 50% brightness", but it will respond to "Set the brightness of my bedroom light to 50%". ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It boils down to both Philips' app and HomeKit itself being almost but not quite ready for prime time. Hopefully updates will make matters better, and thankfully Philips does have a history of keeping the Hue product line updated, so I'm hopeful these issues will go away over time.
Finally, the bulbs in this new and improved kit are a bit brighter than the old version when producing white light. This is a welcome change, but what would have been even more welcome is better reproduction of blue and green hues. Unfortunately these new bulbs suffer the same issues as the previous generation in that the best blue is purple-tinged and the best greens are a lime-y yellow.
The new Apple HomeKit enabled Philips Hue lights are amazing. Being able to turn on/off, change colour, brightness with Apple Siri voice assistant is worth buying this upgrade compared to the older kit.
I just set these lights up in 5 minutes. They work perfectly. Nice bright white light. I can't wait for the rest of the Gen2 lights to come out. Highly recommended.
