Easy installation

Just screw the bulbs into standard E26 light sockets, plug in the bridge, connect it to your WiFi, and download the Philips hue app. Just like that, you've got your own smart lighting system that can connect up to 50 lights.

Great system.... however

I am a little disappointed that the description did not say what generation these bulbs are. They are gen 2 and the reason why this package is cheaper. Colour saturation in the blues and green tones is lacking and looks washed out, red and oranges look great. The only way to tell if it's a gen 3 bulb is by looking at the box makes with "Richer Colors". I really like the system as a whole. Three stars!

We live in such a wonderful world. Look how far we've come. These lights gave a whole new feeling to my home. Installing it was super easy, setup is a breeze. If you're curious, install the app just to see what it can do. With 3rd party apps you can sync with movie/tv colours, schedule to turn on in the morning slowly to wake you up, turn on automatically when you arrive home or leave home.. so many possibilities. totally recommend it!

Expected better

Most colors appear pale and washed out. Don't expect dark blues or dark greens. It also doesn't seem to have a memory when you cut the power to the light. When you turn it back on again it will reset to default. Initially, it took me several tries to get it to connect and setup, and I have a high quality router in the home, so I expected it to have a slightly smoother install. After that it connected no problem. The light itself isn't very bright, so its use is mostly limited to small rooms, closets, or lamps. It's not necessarily a bad product, but the cost is very hard to justify.

Love the lights

I was worried about the brightness of the bulb and weather or not i would use the features of the Philips hue lights. After several months of use and a little time connecting the lights and setting things up i now can say i use all the features and do not see it as a toy. I would highly recommend these lights to anyone.

Using Hue lights since 2 years

I have been using Hue lights since two years and they have been rock solid. Aside from having color option, my priority was to have reliable lights that would not break, turn on each time I turn them on and turn off each time I turn them off. I have 38 lights in my house and they have all have been rock solid. Make sure your Wifi router is not using same Zigbee channel as they can overlap and give some connection problem which I never experienced. As far as added value I enjoyed them on daily basis for any in-house activity. I played with some third party application and now only use Thorlight for Philips Hue. That app know the position of lights and create synchronized animations for some amazing effect. The futur of lighting.

Great hardware, limited software

The new HomeKit enabled bridge allows you to control Hue lights with Siri and HomeKit compatible home automation apps, but the app supplied by Philips is unfortunately limited and (as of the release) fairly buggy. It doesn't support room definitions, only Philips' "scenes", which means you need a third party app in order to control groups of lights if they're not part of a scene. Moreover, since scenes are limited to a specific colour and brightness setting, you need two scenes for the same lights in order to turn them on and off as a group. The Siri setup in the Hue app can be buggy and can require you to go through non-obvious troubleshooting steps such as logging out and back into iCloud or resetting your HomeKit installation. I had to do this to get the lights working after upgrading the bridge and it was quite a chore. These flaws can be mitigated by using 3rd party applications, but for the average person who expects the supplied Hue app to be the only thing they need, it can be a frustrating experience. My last problem has more to do with Apple and HomeKit than Philips Hue, but there is nowhere that tells you exactly what you can and can't say to Siri to make your lights do what you want, and finding the right incantation can be frustrating. For me, Siri won't respond to "Set my bedroom light to 50% brightness", but it will respond to "Set the brightness of my bedroom light to 50%". ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It boils down to both Philips' app and HomeKit itself being almost but not quite ready for prime time. Hopefully updates will make matters better, and thankfully Philips does have a history of keeping the Hue product line updated, so I'm hopeful these issues will go away over time. Finally, the bulbs in this new and improved kit are a bit brighter than the old version when producing white light. This is a welcome change, but what would have been even more welcome is better reproduction of blue and green hues. Unfortunately these new bulbs suffer the same issues as the previous generation in that the best blue is purple-tinged and the best greens are a lime-y yellow.

Loving it!

The new Apple HomeKit enabled Philips Hue lights are amazing. Being able to turn on/off, change colour, brightness with Apple Siri voice assistant is worth buying this upgrade compared to the older kit.

I just set these lights up in 5 minutes. They work perfectly. Nice bright white light. I can't wait for the rest of the Gen2 lights to come out. Highly recommended.
