I'm in downtown Winnipeg and can pick up a french cbc channel, cbc, and global in hd. Hoped to get ctv as well but I seem to be out of range.
Easy setup, played around with tuning knob a bit to get a clear signal. Global glitches sometimes but CBC comes in clearly.
I'd recommend if you're in a city and close to the towers. You can check tvfool.com to see what channels are in range of your address.
i live in verdun qc. my tvis approx 9 feet from south window. i hung it above tv on wall. i get global cbc and ctv in hd. its all i need. bye bye cable bill. the antennae are not even extended. i'd give it a 5 if it was just a bit more decorative.
Was able to receive five channels in HD: CTV,CBC,TVA,Radio Canada and City.
I only received 3 channels when I set up this antenna. CBC, TVO, and one french channel.
For the price you pay it's not bad but I would recommend spending a little more money and getting an antenna that has better range.
Had to setup the TV for the antenna, which was tricky. But once that auto scanned for channels I got five right away, did it again and picked up the sixth. Sometimes you need to turn the knob to get all the channels, but that is so much better than moving the rabbit ears. May consider an analog tuner box with usb for recording favorite shows to an external hard drive or flash drives.
True basic TV for free.
This antenna works just as good as a $500 high out door antenna in my house. Both antenna's in the house.
Actually this antenna works better because the high gain had to be in the window to work, this thing works anywhere in the house.
Get 5 channels all in HD that is as good if not better than cable. Can get a sixth channel if I play with it. Very happy with this as it provides all the channels I needs. Cut the Shaw bill in half as all I have now is Internet.
Had a bit if of difficulty getting antenna to work SO I called the maker of my TV help line and a wonderful telephone person in Manilla walked me patiently thru the steps of settings ,etc , to properly connect the antenna and get tv to recognize it...works perfectly. Great buy as I only wanted it on little spare tv in spare room. Much cheaper than renting a " box" at $6.00 a month!
Screwed it in but "no information". The most difficult task is always turning the thing on. Plus our smart tv has no options called Antenna. Plus we live in Sarnia, so maybe there is nobody even broadcasting a signal within the 20 mile limit for our URBAN antenna to pick up anyway!
When I plugged the antenna directly to the tv I got, technically, 1 channel - Global in HD and SD.
*But* when I connected the antenna to a coax cable by joining the two with a coax coupler I got 3 additional channels. The antenna is positioned in the east side near a window.
The channels that come in are clear whether the "rabbit ears" are up or down and so goes with the middle panel; it doesn't make a difference I just keep them folded down and out of the way.
lots of free TV channels for a one time $20 bucks payment. This Antenna works like a charm.
I am very pleased with the product. Very easy set up. I can get CBC, Global, CTV ,CTV Two, CityTV crystal clear. I tried to set it up on the opposite sides of the house. One side wasn't as good as the other side. It all depends where you are located. I looked at tvfool.com to see what channels are available in the area. Best money I've spent.
the quality of the tv picture from the antenna is better than cable.i put it by the southern window, and get 9 stations.
It picks up 23 channels in my home, not positioned near a window. I am in Windsor, ON so it is mostly American channels that get picked up (NBC, ABC, CBS, CW) but it also picks up the local CBC feed here. Picks up a few independent Detroit stations as well. Definitely worth it for $[price] if you don't watch a lot of TV and are OK with the basic stations.
I was really surprise because the image not fussy but very clear. No more cable bill for me and I got 11 channels. Awesome !
have some channels but not all of them have another window antenna like this having additional 4 more channels.....
I tried an expensive version first -- got just as many channels with this one. Very happy with it. It took a few minutes for my TV to find all the channels, and I get more if it sits in the window as opposed to the middle of the room - but works great!
I bought it because of the review that I saw. I really like how clear the images are.
I went to menu and selected Air because my TV doesn't show antenna from the menu. First, I got only 4 channels then I downloaded again I got now 10 channels in total. I recommend it to my sister she bought one too. It's very impressive clear than my previous TV cable. I think, I still can get more channels if I change the position of the antenna
Advice on the internet says that your particular situation strongly affects the effectiveness of HD antennas. That being said...
This unamplified antenna slightly outperformed a much more expensive amplified antenna in a side-by-side comparison. It took a little tweaking (less than 5 minutes) but I was very happy with the results.
Was worried that basement location in townhouse complex would cause problems but receiving great picture quality. Had to experiment a little with antenna location but got it working well in one evening of watching TV.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered this.. but so pleasantly surprised that I was able to pick up so many channels. ( ctv, ctv2, global, cbc, chch, city and a few others)
It's so easy to install.. there was nothing to it.. and for the price.. you can't go wrong!
Bought this antenna yesterday. Easy installation. Received 8 clear channels (I'm in Vaughan). I don't know what other antennas will do better, but it is good value for this one.
I bought two antenna's - this one and the RCA CANT1400 to test both out. The Philips antenna will take a lot more playing around with the antenna location and antenna positions than the RCA CANT1400 so you will have to spend a lot of time scanning to just to find a good position. I am able to get around 15 channels with the Philips but what I did first was scan with the RCA CANT1400 and then hook up the Philips one and move it around until all channels were working. This allows you to find the right position for the Philips much faster because the channels are already scanned in your tuner/TV.
I get CBC, Global, TVO, CityTV, Bounce, CHCH, and 3-4 more.
Amazing value nonetheless
I got a fancy antenna with amplifier, but It receives only 5 channels. I returned the expensive antenna and got this one which receives 12 channels including CTV, Global, and City. I think the fine tuner feature installed on this one helps to tune it based on your location.
I bought this antenna and a flat amplified type (both phillips). I received 9 chanels with thus model and zero with the amplified model. Can't go wrong for the price.
Could not get any channels with this model. Will return it for a better RCA antenna with amplifier.
No channels at all. My tv doesn't have the antenna setting they are talking about and no channels could be viewed. Will return ASAP.
works great for one channel only. Thought we would get at least three..
I bought this today and the more expensive Philips flat one. This one picked up all the channels inside an office in my home in SW Edmonton. The flat Philips one with signal booster did not pick up the 2 VHF stations in the area (CTV, Global). Highly recommend!
Needs to be close to a window. I live near Kipling and Finch (north-west Toronto) and without the antenna being near a window I received 2 channels. By moving it to an east facing window I received 9 channels. But that was on a crystal clear day. Unless you're in the downtown core you'll probably need something more powerful.
Could only get 1 channel most of the time, eventually picked up 2 channels, When it works, gets clear 1080i High def display. Only works down stairs and not upstairs witch makes no sense, Is up right by the window where the best signals come from, In crappy weather it will get absolutely nothing. Will be returning for a better antenna.
Only 1 (CBC) and have to keep antenna near the window. Will return it.
Picked this up today and after a few scans and a bit of playing around i'm up to 17 crystal clear channels! Going to keep playing around a see if i get more!
Live in downtown Ottawa, very bad reception, only got 3 channels, and not stable.
I live in a north-east facing apartment in a high-rise in Toronto and recently purchased three antennas to see which one would work the best: The $120 one was useless as it did not even include the cable to hook it up to the TV, but the $80 did get 15 channels. The cheapest of the bunch (this one!) got 22 channels, so the other two got returned!
My advice to anyone is to experiment with two or three antennas to see which one works best in your geographic location! The more expensive ones are not always the best!
Pulled in more channels than the more expensive $40 models.
Got up to 12 channels on 2nd floor tv. Great picture quality. Very easy setup.
Catch only 7 channels so far / CBC / Radio-Canada / TVO / Gobal x2 / Yes Tv / CHCH.
This did not work in the city of surrey even though there are towers near. had to return it. zero channels.
Just bought this today. Plugged it in, scanned and already found 19 stations. I'm on the third floor of a condo facing east toward cn tower. I hope to get more stations once I play around with the settings, but if not, I'm impressed regardless. I think 19 is pretty good. I highly recommend it.
Saw this on sale and picked it up pretty much on a whim. We're not big TV watchers but have a few proffered shows on a couple of the major networks. Extremely pleased to be receiving 16 channels that include Global, City, CTV, CBC, PBS, and CW. This is coming from indoors on the second level, facing SSW, surrounded by taller buildings. Worth it for such a cheap price!
Purchased this antenna on a whim for our 2nd TV in the bedroom. We get 25-30 channels on it, with better picture than cable. We now use it on our living too tv too with a splitter. Same HD channels, with Dolby 5.1 surround sound!
I have to open my balcony door and bring this think outside on top of a box, otherwise it doesnt work inside...peace of garbage
It is very good on my Sony TV (read 9 channels), while it is not good for my Dynex TV (cannot read any channel). I think the quality of the TV tuner in the TV makes a big difference. That's the reason that some people has bad reception with this product.
This product could probably work in core downtown areas but in the suburbs its just a paper weight. So much so that even the sales rep advised me against getting this product.
Just plugged it in and ran a TV antenna scan from the menu within my TV. The TV is located in my basement. It picked up 7 local channels from Oakville with crystal clear reception. I did not even have to make adjustments. At this price I bought another one for a second TV on the main floor. Between the 7 local channels and Netflix all of my TV needs are covered. I discontinued cable TV service several months ago and was still able to receive a handful of channels through the cable. When the cable company upgraded my modem for internet I lost all but two of the stations. Looks like I got them back with this antenna. 95 % of my TV watching is through Netflix in any event and I really am enjoying the savings.
I bought the [price] RCA amplified antenna and all I could get were 4-7 channels. I took it back and bought this little Phillips antenna for [price] and now get 16 channels, but I am still not able to get CBC in Welland for some reason.
Excellent reception of 6 Calgary digital channels, every one except the french channel. More expensive active antennas were up to 4 channels max. I live on a hill in SW. Well engineered piece of plastic and metal from Philips.
I live in a condo in Toronto, this little $20 thing picked up like 20-30 channels and many are HD with Dolby Digital playback .. this is a great buy!, time to cut cable.
