I liked the price and bought it and it sounded OK for my condo. However, i did not antitipcate how much blue tooth makes a difference. i set it up and i sat down in my couch...only to get back up and plug my iPad/iphone/mac to the side with an aux cable. Other sounds bars have the blue tooth option for only 50 more dollars. Also, it does not have the optical cable which is approx 20 bucks. Might as well go with sony to get bluetooth and optical cable included.
After reading the reviews here, I purchased this as a gift. After giving the gift and setting it up, I couldn't believe how nice the sound quality and volume was. You kinda get what you get with flatscreen televisions as most of the speakers are behind the TVs, so this sound bar really lets the sound from the television project around your living room/bedroom. I would definitely recommend. Reviews here were absolutely helpful.
Had this for more than a year and it works perfectly. You can't go wrong for the price and quality. Just don't expect too much and don't compare this to the high end ones. I use the optical cable for TV connection. Would I buy another one? Yes, if I needed. Would I recommend this? Yes!
The sound quality is amazing. Perfect for a small to medium sized apartment. I dont think the neighbours appreciate it as much as i do but what can i say
I bought this soundbar to improve the sound of my LG 42" Smart TV . Totally simple to hook up , longest time was spent hiding the cords ! In a word, it sounds amazing - the subwoofer cranks out enough bass even at low volumes that I fear for my neighbor's sanity , and the whole TV experience has been enhanced incredibly . I did buy the optical cable for it , and the salesman reminded me I would need it . Remote IS small but since I use Telus , I double-side taped it to the lower half of the Telus remote , whch has a 3" area where there's nothing . Yes, the lack of an onscreen Volume indicator takes getting used to , but it does have a mute . In short , this thing sounds incredible and I am thinking of buying more for my other TVs ......
I bought this as a gift to a friend who is surely not an early adopter of any type of technology products. The installation is easy, simple and straightforward. The audio quality is reasonable for a 2-bdrm condo. Yes it is not dolby surround 5.1 but it is good enough to enjoy a movie or hockey game on TV. Price is great particularly when it's on sale.
I am very impressed by the sound of this sounbar. Great value for the price. Good deep bass and overall can't go wrong at all
this soundbar was easy to install, and provides amazing sound. fantastic value for the price I paid! A+++
Top quality for smaller size rooms, great sound, almost you have a feeling that you are in the theatre.
Easy to hook up. Had to also buy a fiber optical audio cable since nearly all newer TVs have only this audio output. Sound a lot better than the TV. As far as controlling the volume through the TV that is a setup through the TV itself.
The sound is Great! Ipurchased for my son to use with his PS3 and once we turned it on I was speechless with the sound, not only with the PS3 but with bluray movies too.
The price was a bonus on sale. I would definitely recomend it.
ok sound, but was hoping tv volume would control the unit. Would be much more desirable that way --- didn't need another remote to have to use.
This is on sale when I bought this. This sound bar stunned me when I tested its prototype, with the surround mode on gives you a rich natural sound and 5.1 channel system like and it's a good deal. Good for listening music as well using the Music iLink. Really recommended this one, just loving it until now, perfect for 32" LCD or LED TV's
Great sound at a great price. Good for up to 300sq. ft. room.
Yes, I bought two for my house, one in living room and one for Bedroom and one for a friend as a gift. That's how much I love this product. The sound quality is unreal. It's not surround sound but still gives a very good 2.1 deep bass sound. The treble is good. The remote could be better and I had almost given 4 stars. but I think overall the product deserves 5 stars. Maybe a bigger remote for next time Philips!
Nifty little sound bar with a surprisingly big sound. Best value for money!
I was on the fence about purchasing a sound bar for my room. (Live in a house with 4 buddies). So when I got a $50 gift card for Christmas, I thought I'd use it towards this. Great price and good reviews on the website I felt it was a safe buy.
I should have read into the product a little further as you will have to buy an optical cord unless you already have one. This was a small annoyance after unpacking the box. Had to run to Best Buy again after bringing it home to make it work with my TV/PS3 combo.
The overall sound is better than TV speakers. That is no shock. However, some of the sound is overwhelming. I find the audio like speech is drowned out if there is music and/or action sequences going on at the same time. I haven't had this issue on larger sound systems. Therefore, I find some things I watch are great to listen to and some are difficult to listen to. For some programs I have found myself switching to regular TV speakers. Maybe given time the sound will sink in.
Would have been nice to have a small display for volume, treble, and bass. Hard to know where these settings are at.
Overall, great value. The sound is overall very good, but with some annoyances depending on the programming. With the fact I had to buy an extra cord I would have bought a slightly more expensive sound bar like a Sony or something.
Nice sound, price.
The perfect complement to a small room and a smallish tv. A nice simple design and so compact. Easy to set up but be sure to have an optical or coaxial cable on hand as you require this to complete the set up (and it's not included in the box)!
Sound is good - only wish you could see on the tv when you are increasing the volume. Other than by listening to the sound itself, you can only tell the volume is increasing by looking at the green light blink on the sound bar.
For the price, this is a great product at a super deal.
I was tired of dialog being drowned out by background music with my TV speakers. This was an inexpensive solution!
The dialog is much clearer on all volumes now(TV had to be loud before), and my gaming and music sound great.
Wish it had a power button on the speaker.
I bought the product earlier today but I was pretty unsure on the quality since it was so cheap but I just watched my first movie on it and it completely changes the movie watchers experience. its nothing compared to a full $1000 system but if your not willing to put that much money into one then this is a great product.
this product is the best
I always do a lot of research on electronic purchases over or near $100. Unfortunately I couldn't do much especially because it was for a not great TV upstairs. Turned out to be an amazing sound system for the price and the 55" insignia TV is pretty awesome!
Quite happy with this product overall. The price was certainly reasonable, and the audio is great. My only real complaint would be the lack of an optical cable - you need to supply your own optical/coaxial/aux cord(s).
I would recommend this sound bar for sound enhancement in a smaller room - my only complaint is that there weren't clearer instructions about the tv hookup and we had a hard time due to our tv having Dolby digital - you tube helped and we were able up connect it with some great instruction there.
First, the quality of the sound is good as well as the volume.
Now, on a 5.1 film you will have the same problem as always: voices are low and all others sounds are at a extremly high volume. And at certains frequencies, when you try to turn up the volume a bit, some strang fuzzy noises appeared form the sound bar, like something is vibrating.
For those reasons, i do not recommend buying it unless you want you pay for: 2 designed speakers and a bass unit. Not much ...
I have 2 of these sound bars, and you can't go wrong with the price. (I've got them on sale each time). Compact but great audio.. The bass is very fullsome - it sounds like a herd of elephants in the house from adjoining rooms!
Adjustable bass and treble
Compact design - bar and subwoofer
Multiple inputs - HDMI, optical, or AV cable
Has to be turned on (won't power on automatically with TV)
No adjustable / measurable settings or control for bass and treble functions - just up or down buttons for each
Its a good unit especially for the price. The only thing I don't like is the instructions never mentioned changing the tv sound settings. I thought the sound bar didn't work or a had a bad cable... I had to Chang the tv settings to external and boom... worker well. Simple and sounds good.
Didn't include the cord to hook up to the tv. We have a small living room and the sound isn't much better than the tv alone. I got this one since it looked like a good deal. I wouldn't recommend it.
I have had my eyes on this model for awhile. I didnt buy until now because the price of the unit kept going up drastically. I love my philips bar. I wasnt looking for the biggest or loudest package. I wanted a modest sound bar for movies, gaming, and music. It does fill the room with a nice clean sound. I havent experienced any type of audio lag, static or screeches.
-Sound is amazing
-Remote has controls for Bass and Treble
-The unit doesnt turn on by itself when the TV set is
Great product for the price. Would recommend it to anyone!
Although my TV was bought new in Dec. 2012 and the sound on it is relatively good I was planning on adding a soundbar simply for the added sound quality on watching movies. I found this one on sale and was thinking if it wasn't what I was expecting I could always put it on my bedroom tv. I was very impressed with the sound. It was easy to hook up, looks great and sounds terrific. I am glad to have found this deal at the price I paid.
I have been waiting for ages to buy a sound bar, thinking that anything under $200 was probably going to produce terrible results.
Being frustrated with watching our favourite TV shows with no impact of a proper sound system, I looked for a sound bar with minimal investment. I figured it would tide me over until we got a real system later.
Wow...for a medium sized bedroom, this thing shocked me at how good of the sound was. Nice job Philips.
Does sound better than TV's built in speakers particularly for music. Good value for money if bought on sale.
This sound bar is definitely better than the speakers on the TV.
At normal volume the sound is OK. Distortion moves in at higher volume levels.
this distortion is revealed in the upper treble, wind instruments (music on movie soundtracks)
A year ago I bought a home theatre system, which not only was a tonne of cables, but a tonne of speakers all over the place.
I like simple things, so I gave that one away and bought this sound bar to replace it.
I bought one for my living room (it's a small townhome), it is supr easy to plug, and practically takes no space.
But when I turned it on to watch the 1st movie I was in shock, the sound is AMAZING, the subwoofer is awesome!!
I loved it so much that the next day I ordered another one to put in my bedroom.
I use them for music and all of my movies.
Would recommend it to anyone, for this price and brand you can't go wrong!!
This soundbar definitely added to the depth of sound to my blu-ray watching experience. But I found that the sound was less sharp than I expected, concentrating mostly on the lower registers. I still needed to use the TV's built-in speakers. I got this at a good price but think I should have splashed out on a more expensive (and hopefully better-sounding) unit.
Has pretty decent sound quality using the optical connector, but it often needs to be disconnected and reconnected because the sound starts to get really "skreechy" sometimes.
Also, the remote is really small so don't lose it. I found that the only option for using just one remote control for all your devices was to get a Logitech remote. They are the only ones who have managed to figure out the Phillips IR codes.
Added this soundbar so I would get digital output from my Xbox and Bell in the bedroom. simple and inexpensive. the small footprint for the sound bar works great on the shelf. The power cord could be longer, as it required an extension. Keep the sound mid range and all is good. Adds that level of bass and immersion missing on the old analog sony. No manual controls on the bar, so don't lose the remote or at least clone it to a universal.
Hope it lasts.
The usual high quality from Philips. My eyes are pleased with the design. My ears with the sound. My wallet with the price.
After being completely fed up with the distorted sound coming out of my older TV's speakers, I decided that a sound bar was in order. As the TV in question is the family's "secondary" TV, I really wasn't looking to spend a lot of money on a higher end sound bar, particularly since most of them tend to be a lot heavier/larger than this model is and won't fit in the nook above the fireplace where our TV is located. In any event, I purchased this sound bar online, based solely on the previous reviews it had received, even though I couldn't be sure (based on the thin amount of information on its specs) what connections it actually had. When I received it, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it had RCA, digital and digital coax cable connectors, particularly since my TV only had a digital coax out on it. I was also happy about how easy it was to set up the sound bar and subwoofer, both of which are very light and compact. The best surprise of all was the sound that actually came out of this modest system--while a far cry from much more expensive systems, it was still very clear and had a great range of bass/treble. Frankly, for the price, I seriously doubt that one could do better than this system and I would definitely recommend it for someone just starting out or for anyone who's just looking for a basic, inexpensive sound bar that offers a great bit of sound and value.
I just wanted to try this bar and sub woofer ,actually I was planning for Bose , but with this price is the best deal and great sound system...I would definitely recommend this product to friends!!!
I must say I was surprised to see how well this fills a room with sound. The subwoofer is just right to complete it. We have this in our living room with a pellet stove running all winter, and have no problems hearing it loud and clear whether we are watching a movie or listening to music from the MP3 player.
I like the way that it's slim and just perfect for the size of my 32' t.v. Overall, gives a lot of enjoyment and improvement to your entertainment!!
I live in a town house so our living area is relatively smaller compared to a house, but the quality of sound we get is amazing. We lived with our LED's TVs sound for a few months and after purchasing this sound bar realized what we were missing. I must also add that purchasing a fibre-optic cable made a huge difference in sound quality but I did not buy it at BB but online though cheap etailer (sorry Best Buy). Bought the sound bar at Best Buy and was totally satisfied with the service and advice I got from sales associate.
My new television speakers are okay, but to really enjoy the cable channel music & movies & video gaming I knew the sound quality needed boosting. This budget friendly soundbar with subwoofer is great!!! Used a digital optical cable connection to get best maximum performance. Did research the pros & cons before purchasing. I am very satisfied with this product.
Fantastic sound for the price!
