Impressive!

Like another reviewer here, I too have Polk's T600 speakers except I didn't return mine. It wasn't until I picked up these bad boys for an incredible price at Best Buy that I realized just how much the T600 was lacking, especially in the bass department. They sound great even when powered only by a Pioneer VSX-1325 receiver. Some day I would like to add an amp to the setup. With these speakers I know I will have lots of headroom.

Sweet

I purchased the RT1A9s for my summer residence. But after listening to them concluded that they are much to good to be used only on weekends. Booming bass and crystal clear high end. Definitely no sub woofer required. No problems with shipping, the speakers arrived on the scheduled date. Great speakers. Exceptional quality for the sale price. Highly recommended to anyone looking for good sound at a good value.

Sounds are as expected

The speakers are huge, sound great and are generally as expected. Good deal at sale price. Some issues in shipping because of weight of speakers. Had to go down to Purolator warehouse to get them as they would not deliver to house. I would recommend them as great with 5.1 surround.

The best

I wast told not to but these speakers unless I had a good power amp to power these beasts. I bought them anyway and am powering them off a pioneer receiver. They sound so good off that receiver I can't wait to actually put some power to them. If they sound this good with receiver power then they will blow my mind when I get the proper power they need. I have no regret. Weather you buy them on sale or for retail price they are worth every penny.

Amazing Speaker

Very nice speaker. I have them hooked up to a 36 year old pioneer sx-d7000. Truly amazing sound. I am hearing things in songs I have not heard before. I also have a set of rtia7s hooked up to a nad t777 receiver. These are good but the a9s are much better. The a9s are well worth the extra money.

Amazing speakers

I will start with the packaging of these speakers in their shipping boxes. HORRIBLE, there is minimal Styrofoam packaging used, and by the time the speakers arrived the Styrofoam is broken into almost powder and does nothing. I would give the packaging from Polk Audio a negative rating. I had to order 5 of these just to get 2 speakers that are acceptable. I actually gave up when I received speaker number 5 and just picked the one with the least amount of damage and shipped the other 3 back. 4 out of the 5 I had to order had damage to the cabinet, some were completely smashed in on the edge or corner and another one had the bottom broken. I agree that Purolator damaged the speakers and I have never cared for Purolators lack of care with everyone's packages but still. All Polk Audio had to do was double up the Styrofoam and use a more durable type. Enough about that though, the speakers look amazing (cherry finish) and sound just as amazing. I have almost 30 hours on these so far and the sound has improved (most notably the bass). I could honestly say that if someone wasn't a crazy bass lover that these do an admirable job with even the very low end. I still definitely prefer my 2 ported 4000w home theater subwoofers, but for late night these still render bass nicely. I have these bi-amp'd being fed 600w RMS per tower and they perform very nicely. I have run Audessey XT room correction but the response curve is fairly level to begin with. Over all, especially if you get them on sale, these are amazing speakers for the price. Just drive and pick them up from a store vs. having them shipped.

quite impressive

I first tried the Polk T600 and the disappointment was so big that after I got them, I returned them to the store in 3 hours ! I gave a try to the Polk RTi A9 and what a surprise ! These are totally different speakers ! got them on sale for [price] (tax included). I use a tube (home brew) amplifier 2x40w (RMS) bassed on EL34 tubes (2 chanells push pull supplied at 500Vdc). The crystal sound and deep base are very convincing ! The only down is that you need to pump at least 10W into the speaker in order for the base to start being up to expectations, but in my case this is easily achievable so not that bad. These speakers are are a special breed Over all for the price I paid, I'd easily rate them 5 out of 5 !

Fantastic!

These things are absolutely amazing, provided they're amplified well! They're 500W, so make sure you have an amp that is adequate for them and you'll be amazed by the results. They also go on sale then and again, so you might be able to catch them at a discount.

Finally !!!

Very pleased , I am loving these speakers . I have them modestly powered with an Onkyo receiver rated @ 170 watts per channel and they sound great even at maximum volume . I know these speakers can handle a ton more power . Ive only had them for a couple days , but I can say they sound better then anything else I have owned . In the future I will bi-wire them or add an intergrated amp to give them some extra power . But right out of the box these things are awesome . Loud , clear , precise and at a discounted price I am very happy with my purchase . Grab these well you can . Everything ive heard from reviews on the net are true . For under a grand these speakers are phenomenal . No regrets , one of the best audio investments I have made . 5 stars !

Amazing sound at a great price but suggest waiting for a better sale price.

I'm powering these RTIA9 tower speakers off a Denon x4200 reciever which provides an outstanding quality. I have paired these with the rest of the series. RTIA 3's RTIA 1's And the RTIA5 center channel which also provides superior performance. For subwoofers, 2 psw125's all from polk audio.

AMAZING!

Always like the POLK Brand of speakers but really never gave them a chance. I been a huge fan of Paradigm Speakers and for the past 30 years that all I have been using. I saw the Polk's on sale at Best Buy so with the price and Best Buys great return policy I decided to give them a listen. I was shocked and amazed of how well these speakers sounded, lots of bass and highs, great imaging and a remarkable full sound speaker! For the price of [price] ea. regular [price] you can't go wrong, these do not disappoint . I don't know why Polk is offering them for such a low discounted price, but after giving them a listen, I'm glad they did. I was so impressed with these I went back and purchased a second pair and using them as the rears in my home theatre, some might say it is an overkill but these really deliver! My Paradigms are up for sale!

Great Speakers

Own 4 of these puppies. Got two at Christmas for [price] each, and a month later they when on for [price] each. Awesome spreader so far. You do need a big amp to drive these. I'm running a Yamaha Rx A 3040, along with a Yamaha Px 10 power amp on first two Channels. Wow!! Can't turn it up it's to loud, speackers take every bit of that power. Rated at 500 watts and I have 1000 a side. They take all I can give them! Sounds like a theatre in my living room when watching a movie. Buy these speakers! Wait for a sale, I watched them for months, then finally I saw them cheap. [price] regular price. I saved like [price] on 4. Only bad thing I can say is the front screens come loose constantly and have to push them back on. They are heavy, around 75 lbs each. Good luck and enjoy!

These speakers are absolutely amazing.. if you spend alot of time watching movies or listening to music and you have the power to push them.. they're worth the money..its not just the volume of the speakers either but the sharpness of the sound isincredible. You can listen to a song you have listened to a thousand times before and hear things you have never heard before.

Amazing

Just got my speakers today for an insane deal of under 1000 Canadian for the set. I have read all about these speakers. There is the insane audiophiles that will tell you they need to be properly amped to appreciate them in there best, but I have the hooked to my Yamaha rx-v781 right now and they are amazing. I have them "bi-amped" through the receiver. Lots of ideas on that as well that it doesn't actually do anything but it sounds amazing to me. I understand that they are getting a very small percentage of power compared to what they can actually handle. I also understand that they will sound way better when I get a proper amp for them. But regardless they sound amazing. I have absolutely no complaints and to anyone that is thinking of getting a set. Just do it. Amp them down the road if you are not happy but at least you got the set. DO IT.

You WILL NOT be disappointed

Got these on sale around Boxing Day. Too awkward for one person to manage, due to the size of the speakers and the overall bulkiness of the packaging they come in. Two people are ideal. At first I was using these speakers with my Yamaha RX-V777 receiver and was extremely pleased with their performance, knowing that at some point I would get a separate powered amp to push them. Hooked them up to a Crown XLS-1502 and WOOOOOOOOWWWWW, is all I can say. The clarity, the punch in the mids, and the volume without the distortion. Just Wow. Rounded them out with an Acoustech 12", and I just sit back and melt from the output. Do yourselves a favor and get these. Preferably on sale.

BEST SPEAKERS I OWN

amazing quality precision dont let the price tag fool you these are worth the 1200 each amazed with them perfect for my setup and 4k tv Caution though you will need a 1000W receiver/amp to power them to the full potential as they are 500w each.

Awesome, but very hungry speakers

I bought these speaker and set them up in my home theater which I use for both general and hard core music listening and general and hard core movie watching. My home theater amp is a Denon at 120 WPC, and to me these speakers were very 'bright' sounding. Considering the 3 large woofers, I expected a whole lot more lows and punchy lows...but they were missing. I heard these speakers need a lot of power, given they are rated at 500 wpc, so out I went and bought a second amp and bi-amped these speakers with an Adcom 200 wpc hard core amp. To be clear, my Denon is now wired to the high and mid-range speakers only, by removing the connector plate at rear of speakers (as designed) which the Denon now provides 120 wpc to just the top speakers (highs) and the Adcom 200 wpc amp is connected to power only the 3 lower woofers. So collectively I am feeding 320 WPC into these power hungry speakers. Ok....let me tell you..... My speakers are now happy....very very happy....which makes me very happy. The difference is night and day.....these speakers are awesome sounding and you seriously need a set. But, fully understand...to get them playing their best....they need boat loads of power...boat loads. My new Adcom amp is serious power and there is no doubt you will need a second amp like this to get them sounding their best. Thank you Polk....a great speaker...love them! One last word...I have since sunk speakers in the wall in a 26 deep, 12 wide and 55 high drywall cavity with no noticeable difference in sound quality....this was a concern given they are ported in the rear as well as the front.... no issue...sound and look awesome.

I got a pair on boxing day sales and for that price, it's well worth the bucks!! It just sounded awesome. The sound for mid and high frequency are so crisp! :) All in all, I love it!

Great Sound

I bought these speakers during Best Buy's boxing day sales, and they are worth every cent. The sound they produce is noticeably cleaner than what you would be accustom to in lower-end speakers, especially for music. They do a fantastic job with capturing bass - especially the lows - there is absolutely zero distortion. I can assure you that you won't regret purchasing them. A word of caution: these speakers each weigh roughly 80 pounds in their packaging, and the boxes they come in are huge. I can't urge you enough - have two people unpack them - and be careful when placing them upright. The 4 "feet" on each speaker base can be easily damaged it not placed on the ground with care.

Professionally built - clear audio

The positive reviews don't lie - this product is designed well, visually and internally. I've used this mininally with 2 stereo speakers for 2 weeks so this review is limited. The setup was VERY easy! The onscreen instructions are phenomenal . THe calibration is professional. Remote is not backlit - be warned. I haven't had any disconnect issues in the 2 weeks so far (wifi or bluetooth). The sound is very clear with 2 Polk Rtia9 loudspeakers which are at 8ohm. No sub yet.

Polk RTiA9's Good So Far

Still in the break in period... they do have a nice sound ... I need to experiment more with them to totally know I am in love with them or not . I am running a pair of 7b brystons on them so they are getting 500+ watts each . i will write another review in a month once they have fully broken in . but great value for what i paid! and they are pretty powerfull too

Polk RT1A9's versus Bowers @ Wilkins

I have a older media room setup. The sound comes from a Denon AVR 5803 which has incredible power (12 x 175 watts). As I like lots of Bass, I supplemented the system with 2- 300 watt - 12" Velodyne subwoofers. The speakers that I have been using in the media/sound room are a pair of B & W's (similar in size to the Polk RT1A9's, a B & W center speaker, a pair of older Bose 601's and 801's.I also have built in wall and ceiling speakers which are powered and paired with a smaller Denon AVR receiver which is connected to the Denon 5803. When you power things up and watch/ listen to the satellite system, dvd or cd, it's an ultimate hearing experience. You fee the sound and music right through to your bones. While doing some boxing day shopping, I stumbled across a pair of Polk RT1A9's...the price was so reasonable that I brought a pair home and swapped them out with the Bose 801's. The increase in output and clarity was awesome. I also compared them to the B & W towers which have 3 large aluminum drivers an 2 kevlar midranges with a very precise tweeter. I was just blown away that they sounded the same as or better than my B & W's. Needless to say, the Bose 801's will have to find a new place to reside somewhere in the house. Had I seen these Polk's at the same time that I ended up purchasing the B & W's, things would have been different - I definitely would have purchased the Polk RT1A9's. They are awesome sounding - period! I have never participated in online reviews previously but felt compelled to share my experience with my recent purchase...

CUTTING EDGE, AMAZING SPEAKER

Got the speakers at boxing day for a great deal and just wanted to test and see how well it will work with my Denon AVR 587 ... its an older 7.1 channel receiver but still happy with it and want to keep it for a couple more years ... my initial concern was the 500 watt power that comes with RT1A9 as it seemed too much for my 75watt per channel receiver...did my research and it seemed to be just fine so i decided to buy and see for myself ... I set it up with my 7 other precision speakers, which Im also happy with for years now and the result was CUTTING EDGE, AMAZING SOUND!!! Cant get enough of it! It blended so well with my other speakers and can hear every detail be it playing a music CD or watching movies...DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED for music and movie lovers out there. I will have this speaker with me for a very long while. Its ULTIMATE SOUND is worth every penny...and getting it for great price on boxing day is a fantastic bonus!

Awesome Speakers

I've owned the Polk RTi8's for a number of years but thought I'd make the jump to these and they did not disappoint that's for sure. The incredible sound was obvious as soon as I turned them on. I took the advice of one of the other reviewers and set them up in bi-amp to give them more power. If you have a newer receiver you'll want to set up your system as bi-amp with that as well. My RTI8's are now acting as surround sound speakers at the back just to make my new sound set up all that much more awesome. I highly recommend these speakers.

Incredible!

I recently moved to a new apartment building with rather noisy neighbours above me, they might have a pet bear by the sounds of things. My old home theatre setup wasn't enough to drown out the growling or foot steps. These do the trick, and they sound incredible while doing so. Even the condo board seems to agree, they have sent me several notices in my mail and even sent the cops over once to have a listen. Highly recommended!

RTiA9 Polk Audio

I can now remove myself from the 'stress' of searching for speakers. I will relax with contentment because I found these RTiA9 Polks and am totally pleased. The sound produced by these speakers are very satisfying, whatever you ask of these speakers to produce, it may be anything between rock'n roll and classical, they will give what you ask......and more. There is something peculiar and appealing about the design, I can just look and stare at these speakers even when not in operation, I found myself smiling at them. I now have 4 of these and are being powered by Pioneer 1528k amp. Well done Polk! I intend to keep these for a very, very long time.

Great Speaker

Finally upgraded to these after running a pair of Rtia7's for a few years. These are worth the upgrade. Get yourself some good clean power and make sure your crossover is set low enough to appreciate the extra room you have with these. Paired with a Csia6, some surrounds with a good sub and you have a solid set of speakers that will take most anything you want to throw at them. I've been a Polk guy for years so I can't say how they compare to others out there. But I can't find anything wrong with them. Some say they can be bright with certain receivers. I've yet to hear anything from them I don't like. They're great for movie night and even better for two channel music listening. If you catch them on sale, you wont be disappointed you bought them. They're great looking, built solid and are about as heavy as you'd want to move on your own. They're very deep so make sure you have room for them. You can run them with a good receiver. But at some point you'll want to get yourself a separate amp and feel the sound. 200 watts really open these up. Great speakers for the price especially if you can get them on sale.

THE ULTIMATE SYSTEM !!!!

I decided to go all out. WOW!!!! Make no mistake.... this is the best set of speakers I have ever owned. I purchased 4 RTIA9 speakers with the Polk Audio center CSIA6 and 2 Polk Audio DSW 660 sub woofers. The sound is amazing. These speakers will take anything I give them and more. They are very clean and detailed. My music and watching movies is like nothing I have ever heard. I'm driving this system with the Marantz SR7008 receiver, with plenty of power to spare. I totally recommend these speakers. I've been an audio guy all my life and have owned some very exotic gear.... But these Polks went way beyond my expectations. Could easily sell for more. Polk Audio has a winner here. Again I totally recommend the RTIA9 speakers. You will not be disappointed.

You will notice a massive jump in sound quality even when connected to a very poor power source, and it just gets better the more wattage you pump through them.

Best overall speaker in this price range

Got these speakers about a year and half ago at a crazy lost inventory price (too good to be true). I was not looking for speakers that day but when I saw them just standing there with the unbelievable price tag I had to by them no matter what. I was always very interested in these speakers but was very please for years with the speakers I had (Mission 705) and never thought to change them. Brought the Polks home and tested side by side for a week against my Mission's and in the end I decided to move on and go with the RTI A9's as they were newer and sounded better. These Polks are awesome speakers, crisp highs, natural mids and nice tight bass when powered properly as they are 500 watts each. I just recently tested a pair of Klipsch RF-82's (RF-800) on my system vs. my RTI A9's and the Polks are definitely a better speaker sound wise, build quality and esthetics. Don't be fooled by the Klipsch playing louder due to their higher sensitivity. The RTI A9's are basically the same speaker as the older model RTI12's just with a few small cosmetic changes, less brightness and fuller sound so if you can get your hands on either pair you won't be sorry.

Ding ding ding we have a ......

... Winner!! These are rated for 500w per speaker. The power on any receiver you purchase will not be anywhere near what it tells you on the box. (Overinflated, peak power rating) I had these bi-amped with my pioneer 1228k @ 170w /channel. They sounded really good.... But not good enough. I bought a berhinger 3000w power amp....(probably not 3000w either) but more than enough to make these speakers melt your pretty face off. I have these set to "small" in conjunction with a definitive 10" sub and an energy 8" sub. I can't even get these speakers to distort even a little before I start breaking windows in the house. I digress, these speakers sound great bi amped but to really get the most out of them they should be powered with a decent amp. ... And they sound great at lower levels too... yay

  • from Toronto, ON

hi end sound on a budget

These are great sounding if they're powered with a good amplifier. If these are going to be part of a home theater then most likely you will have to bi amp them to get the best out of them. I've had mine for while I couldn't get them to sound right for music till I Bi amped them. But once I did there were no regrets with this purchase. they really do have a life like sound when they get enough power. these will be disappointing with low power amps. you can pay more for something with better looks but you re really going to need to spend to beat them in terms of sound quality. something to keep in mind is that they are pretty big and heavy too. get someone to help you unbox and move them into place.
