Design flaw = Rotor failure = GARBAGE

My son got this as a gift from his school for great overall academic performance and it is heartbreaking to see his disappointed face when it would NOT fly. There are 2 things that I noticed when I closely inspected the helicopter that causes it to fail. Under the chopper, there is a small cog and a large cog. The small cog is suppose to transfer power directly to the upper rotor blades via the large cog but, 2 things are happening: 1) The small cog tends to slip down the axle missing contact with the large cog 2) Even if the small cog got locked into place, it is too small, or far away, from the large cog to remain in contact and provide power Another thing I noticed, holding the throttle at full power, there does not seem to be enough to actually give lift. The power seems to fade after a few seconds. There are fresh new batteries in it and is fully charged. This is an extremely flawed product with an extremely high failure rate and should NOT be sold.

literally worthless

First one out of the box, the top rotor did not spin, so I returned it. Second one out of the box the top rotor didn't spin and couldn't take off, so I returned it. Third one out of the box, top rotor didn't spin and couldn't take off, so i returned it and just got my money back. I'm not going for a 4th obviously (probably should have stopped at the second. Literally blew my mind. Does anyone even test things things over where they are made?

Protocol Turbohawk Helicopter

My son 12 year old son saved his money for 6 months to buy this toy. We brought it home, took it out of the box, assembled and charged it. Darn thing would not lift off the ground! Blades spun, helicopter spun in circles without lifting off the ground. I tried to return it or exchange it and was told I would have to go through the manufacturer. Of course that was useless, all they have is a website with no access for complaints. I do not recommend this toy. Why would such a large company like Best Buy not back up the products they sell? smh

Difficult to control, broke way too quickly

I realize there is some skill required to learn this, but it crashed twice and one rotor no longer turns so it is garbage. Waste of money.

2 units neither worked

Purchased one to take it home and discover a broken rotor. Returned to a store and was told the second would be final sale and was asked to inspect the unit. Visually it was fine then I get home to discover only the top rotors spin so no flying this unit. [...]

Garbage right out of the box...

This is the second Protocol RC Helicopter I have owned. My first experience was good for what I paid, on clearance, and that should have told me about the quality of it. The second I purchased and gave as a gift. I was super embarassed when it gets opened, and it's the coolest gift under the tree and the silly thing won't charge or fly. So annoyed and felt like a fool for buying it.

Protocol TurboHawk RC Helicopter

Pretty cool toy. It takes practice and patience to master this but once you "get the hang of it" it's lots of fun. My dogs HATE it LOL!!!

waste of money

bought 2 of these for christmas gifts, 1 for sure doesn't work and will be returned. haven't heard if the 2nd one works or not. but either way - DO NOT buy or go to a r/c dealer for better quality goods. you would expect in working condition right out of the box for the price you are paying. do you get that with these - NO. returning 1 for sure and maybe both if it to also doesn't work.

Cheap

Easy to fly but if it crashes, chances are one of the lower blades will break.

Great heli for beginers

This is a great r/c heli for the absolute beginer, which I happen to be. You need to be patient, learn to hover before attempting turning and travelling forward or backward. Charging and flying time is as advertised. I've crash landed on carpet numerous times, hit a ceiling fan and have yet to break anything. So far I've only used it indoors and wouldn't recommend as an outdoor heli due to it's light weight, I've purchased a larger heli as well but haven't tried that one. As far as performance I find this as a good product and have'nt been disappointed. I would recommend this product to learn how to fly the heli before moving to a larger craft.

Great toy

I have 3 different helicopters and this is the most used of all of them. It charges much faster (about 20 minutes instead of 1 hour or more) than the larger ones but flies about the same amount of time. It is a perfect size for indoor use and regardless of what people say it takes a lot of abuse, considering... High speed rotors hitting a wall or worse a chair leg etc will break a plastic rotor...you need to understand that's the way it is and order spared parts with early on. I have 2 to share parts and have another spare part kit on order most of the time. Given all that it has been a very fun toy for the whole family. Just buy spare parts! ;)

Even at [a low price] the value was not there

I was able to order one of these during the boxing week sales.[...] Picked it up last night, got it home, put in 6 new AA energizer max batteries, and charged it up. Didn't take long to charge, roughly 20 minutes as indicated, and then we were off. Once I had the trim set properly, I was able to control it fairly easily...for maybe 3 minutes, at which point it barely had enough juice to hover a foot from the ground.... So I charged it again...20 minutes later, we are off, hoping to get more flying time as the trim was already adjusted.. this time I was air borne even less than the first time... So I charged it again...20 minutes later, and it can't even get off the ground....I'd like to note that at each charging, I waited for the green light to indicate charging was done. So at this point, I wasn't very pleased, so I returned it to my nearest store for a refund. It was fun for the few minutes of flight I got, but that was it...

Terrible product - do not buy!

Broke within a few mins. The blades are literally brittle and chip off when they strike something hard - until they break off entirely! Unlike other products have plastic blades that have some bend to them. The Protocol units make you think they are sturdy with metal bodies but you don't know how brittle the blades are. The metal body means that it only can fly for 5 mins after a charge and it drops like a rock to the ground. Plus it doesn't fly right.. it spins around no matter how much you adjust the dial - which makes it crash into things all that much easier. All in all a recipe for disaster, and one sad 11yr old and one broken heli in a few mins. Protocol is Junk. Do not buy!

Great product!

Got this for Chrismas and haven't stopped playing with it! Super fun and fairly easy to control once you get the hang of it and adjust the spin according to the instructions. As for durability I've crashed it I don't know how many times and it still works. Hit the ceiling, walls, furniture, even the bottom of the tree lol! My only suggestion would be if you think its going to hit something let go of the throttle so the blades are free to pivot out of the way. All in all a good introduction to RC helicopters and a good way to gain the skills required before you move up to the big boys.
