rca antenna did not work at all for me, i am guessing since no mounting options, not facing the right line of sight to buffalo. i ended up buying bestbuy's C1C-CN and mounted it on a cheap AL camara flash stand in the living room and get 13-20 hd channels; amazing!!! angled it SW towards the lake and get many channels from buffalo.

Free HDTV who knew!

Well I was a skeptic about receiving FREE Over The Air (OTA) HDTV signals. My eyes have been opened. NO MORE CABLE BILLS! This is great for low income households or Seniors who only want basic channels in their area. This product performs very well. Pulls in 5 channels here in Calgary. Global, CFCN (CTV), CBC, CityTV and Omni. Very easy to setup. It took longer to read the instructions. This comes with an amplifier which is important for long distance cable running...basement, 2nd story etc. I wish it came with longer cable. Things to be aware of. 1) go to and check to see if your address will receive OTA channels. This site will tell you what channels you get, the signal strength coming to you and where to best point your antenna. 2) Buy an Antenna from BEST BUY. They have a great selection. BUT you get what you pay for. If you buy cheap you may not receive the signals. 3) Placement of Antenna is important. We put the RCA in the living room on a taller cabinet. It pullled in all the major networks with no problems, Omni signal was weaker. We moved the antenna to the 2nd story and pointed it towards the Network Transmission Towers. All stations came in strong. Says its omni-directional. It's a little bigger than an iPad.

The Best Bang For Your Buck. No Doubt About It.

This is an excellent product. I live on the fourth floor of The Slums of Kleisinger Crescent in Regina. I am essentially imprisoned in a concrete and rebar jail cell but I get CBC, CTV & Global in perfect HD. It's even crisper than Sask-Tel Max because the signal is uncompressed. And it's FREE - forever! In all candor I must say that CTV did not scan immediately. That transmitter is to the south of me and a lot of cement and iron lay between us. But, set on a vintage wooden Pepsi crate in front of the terrace glass door it works perfectly. I hereby endorse this product.

Good Buy ... CANT1650 - RCA HDTV/TV Antenna

Lots of people think an over-the-air antenna will work perfectly and get a huge number of channels... think again! It all depends on where you place the unit... direction and elevation are key with any OTA antenna!! I put two of these units in a stairwell - one facing east and one facing north (mounted on a wall - no window) allowing over-the-air viewing from a basement without access to the upstairs or roof of the dwelling... pulled in 30+ channels. Sometimes weather will cause problems but considering the lack of height combined with obstructions from others houses and not being able to locate an antenna outside the house with good elevation I have to say the RCA CANT-1650 works very well !!! Although it's somewhat expensive I'd have to say that only a rotating RV antenna could/might work better. Other units I tried failed miserably !!!!!!!! I'd recommend this unit to anybody - and have - and I've been thanked by all of them. Keep in mind that I'm in the Detroit area and have alot of channels here... results would be different for other folks in different areas... but I'm getting virtually every available channel. Thanks RCA and Best Buy !!!!!!!

Excellent Product. Great Reception. 5 stars.

I'm using the product in Aurora, ON, about 38 km from the CN Tower. Product is mounted about 7 feet high on a south wall near a window. I pick up 13 stations which is way more than I expected. This includes stations from Toronto, Hamilton, Buffalo, and Barrie. The specifications for this antenna are for 60 miles, so the performance does indeed match the manufacturer's claims. The key to getting good reception is where you mount it. Laying it flat away from the window gave me the worst results. Ensure you mount it near a window.

Above Average Product

As I face SW in a condo, this antenna picks up all Buffalo, local Toronto stations including Hamilton CHCH. I recommend to people looking for a F2A Antenna.

works, but no better than a cheaper one

I bought two antennas, CANT-110 and CANT-1650. While both picked up a few channels in Burnaby, South of Highgate Mall, this one was not as good as the CANT-110 or the home-built one. Neither of the other two antennas had an amplifier either. The reason I didn't give it just one star is because it does work and it does pick up a number of channels, I simply don't think it is worth the extra money over the CANT-110.

Good Antenna

Work's perfectly out of the box. Have to move it around for 1 channel but that is because the antenna is not "Right by a window". Works better than the rabbit ears and when I installed it my brother thought it was part of the computer so it certainly blends in.

Very weak performance

I live in downtown Toronto in a condo building so I expected to pick up a handful of channels. Despite my best efforts, I could only pick up 2 channels: A 24 hour gospel channel and CHCH. I was terribly disappointed and returned the product.

Didn't work for me

Didn't get any of the desired results, hardly any reception at all, and I'm in midtown toronto, go figure!

Easy set up and after scanning channels I got a whopping 14! I was a bit skeptical whether this would work for me because I live in Scarborough and face east in my condo. Only major drawback is that of the 14 channels none of them are US channels, so I'm debating whether to keep it. The product works so my area must be better than those who gave bad reviews.

Easy and good value

This has worked great. I hooked it up and get the main Canadian networks (CBC, CTV, City TV, Global) and a few others clearly. It was easy to set up. I live it downtown Toronto - so that may be helping reception. I wish the antenna panel was smaller - but it's not ugly and, as long as you don't bump it too much, it maintains good reception. It's bringing us great Olympic coverage - so I am thrilled.

RCA Antenna 1650

This product is amazing. Had no channels before now get 14 and some HD channels. One thing people must remember is this product works best if you are in a major city. NOTE It also won't work if you don't have a DIGITAL TV or box. This will not work on older tvs (ie tube)

It depends where you live. I get more channels with this than I did paying a monthly fee with our local internet/television provider

Amazing product, if you're in the right area

The important thing to note with this product is LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. If you live in a rural area that is far from the transmission towers, you will likely have poor reception. I live about 5k (unobstructed) from the CN Tower and get all the local Toronto stations crystal clear, as well as 5 or 6 of the Buffalo stations. The quality is stunning on the dozen or so channels that come in, and combined with Netflix and network streaming sites/apps, makes this a highly viable option to cable. Check tvfool to make sure you are in an area with strong reception before purchasing this product to avoid giving undeserved low-ratings. The product isn't magic, it can only pull signals if they are there to begin with.

RCA HDTV Antenna (CANT1650)

Very disappointing. Tried to upgrade from the one I have and this one was worse. Got less channels and requires constant readjustments for each channel. Couldn't really find anywhere that worked. Very frustrated with all the indoor antennas I've tried. Will try an outdoor one next. Fingers crossed.

weak signal

I borrowed a friends hdtv antenna, the one with the rabbit ears and I received 13 channels in crisp clear HD, but the foot print of the indoor antenna was annoying. So I purchased this one so it wouldn't be such an eye soar, but I only got 2 channels no matter where I placed it. Even those 2 channels would lose its signal if you walked next to it. I live in a bunglaow in central Ottawa. May be good if you lived in a high rise. Would not recommend if you live in a house in the city of Ottawa.

Works as advertised

I purchased one of these last night and hooked it up. I live in downtown Mississauga and when I did the channel scan on my TV, it picked up 14 stations. I'm also located on the 15 floor of my condo building which might help with reception. I browsed through these channels and the picture quality was fine and the sound quality was good as well. It worked for me as advertised and I think it's the perfect alternative to cable for a low-use TV watcher.

Not bad

For perspective vs some of the other negative reviews. I did buy this and am satisfied. I live downtown and get 8-10 channels of HD local t.v. I have noted, that reception isn't as good on poor weather days - but I have my t.v. in the basement and have heard that signals are better above ground or in condos etc. The signal is not perfect 100% of the time (for my basement) - but if you're a t.v. fanatic, pay for cable. Otherwise, for an occasional t.v. viewer, this offers a good alternative to an expensive monthly HD T.V. service.

Antenna fails to work

This antenna gave me worse results than my 30 year old set of rabbit ears. In addition, pulling the plug on the amplifier doesn't reduce the signal. Plugging it back in does not increase the signal. I spent over an hour repositioning the antenna to no avail. I'm now back to my rabbit ears getting a better signal and saving electricity too.

Piece of Junk

Plugged it in thinking it would improve my reception, it didn't. My old rabbit ears worked better. Returned the antenna and went back to the rabbit ears.
