Bought this a few months ago and hooking it up was not difficult however, I noticed while playing a cd the sound suddenely cut out and then resumed after 15 seconds. It could have been a dust spec but I never had this issue on several previous players. The DNLA feature is sketchy at best. Sometimes it won't recognize external devices (my PC), which I have music and movies. The player is connected with ethernet which is the best connection possible. Rebooting and trying different connections solved nothing. I had to use my old player for DNLA purposes. Secondly, the remote is a joke. It is way too small for the human hand to control accurately. My thumb will literally push 2 buttons at the same time if you don't watch visually while you are pressing. My old player was a Sony so I am switching to the new Sony 4K instead to see if that works with DNLA. I don't reccommend this player!
Works together very nice with my Samsung 4K TV. The remote is real nice and convenient to use. Three color, blue, green and red, led indicator light on player. Both remote and player have soft touch buttons. The Wi Fi on the Ultra HD player, connected with ease, and was up and running in ten minutes. We had watched a movie, first on a Samsung Blue Ray player, then watched the same movie, but on a 4K disc, with the new Ultra HD player. The difference was very noticeable!!
Unfortunately, we paid full price for it, just a week and a half ago!!
Now I just need to start collecting 4K content!!
Stay away from this player. I owned this for 1 week before finding out that there is a red gamma issue. This is very apparent in the movie "Fury" in the scene inside the tanks you will see red ghosting. This cannot be fixed by a software update as it is a chip issue. I have since returned this player and picked up the Sony UBPx800. I wouldn't say the difference is night and day but at least the Sony doesn't have the red gamma issue.
Works ok but very cheaply made as in build quality . Not great value for what
it costs .
Very happy with this 4K Blu-ray player. Excellent picture and apps. Upgraded on turning on but didn't take long. Would recommend. Quick delivery.
All whom are complaining about black bars on top and bottom of TV screen and saying they can not expand the picture to eliminate the black bars. Do you realize that expanding to eliminate black bars either from top to bottom or from sides of TV screen (no matter what TV or player you are using), you are either losing some of the original picture or distorting it. There are different aspect ratios, any deviations from the original are compromising quality of picture.

If you buy Blu Ray players from Samsung, you're in for a nice surprise. In 2 years from now, you'll put a disk in that asks you to upgrade the firmware. Then you realize that Samsung didn't create any firmware update in the last 3 years so you are stuck with a Blu Ray that cannot play movies anymore.
If you search over the internet, you'll see that they are renown for NOT upgrading their firmware. STAY AWAY unless you want to buy another one in 2 years.
Great product! Worth to buy!
I have had this 4K Blu-ray player for about two months now wow this thing is awesome I have about eight 4K movies now it's outstanding best player ever. The picture is absolutely amazing the sound is wow. Yes I would recommend this player
This is one awesome 4k Blu-ray player
Ìt own two of these with both hooked up to my Samsung 78" KS9500 & 65" KS900. Every 4K movies I have played on either, continues to blow my mind to this day. Best part is while watching a movie there are no one squeezing by for whatever reason & all the chatter. If I had to choose a theater or my entertainment room, with this player I made my money back with no lineups & a much better picture/sound quality in the comfort of my recliner. Ìn my opinion, if you own a Samsung SUHD TV then this is a very wise upgrade!
I bought this player. The upscaling is really good. Wait until you watch a 4K blue ray movie it will blow your socks off it is so cool. I love this new format.
This is one truly amazing ultra HD Blu-ray player fantastic picture on upscaling regular Blu-ray 4K Blu-ray out of this world picture and sound doesn't get better than this thank you Samsung
This product is able to play all dics formats: dvd, Blu-ray, 3d Blu-rayy, ultra hd 4k blu-ray. 4K blu rays look exceptional with the new HDR (High Dynamic Range). Some 4k movies look more detailed than others due to the fact there digital masters are 2k and not 4K. But even on those titles HDR is enough of benefit to upgrade to 4k discs. The player is able to stream 4k with Netflix as well.
For those who have been waiting for 2+ years after getting the first 4K TV, finally. But not all 4K movies are made the same. One movie will show more details and other may look the same as 1080P Blu Ray. Paired with Samsung 4K TV. Bought 3 4K movies to try. Movies are ok but not impressed. Not comparable to the 4K demo in store when videos are played at an accelerated speed, but crispy clear?
But the player itself is very primitive. Buttons are very small to begin with. And I can only advance from chapter to chapter. There is no slow motion or playback/forward feature like an ordinary, good, old DVD player when you can examine a few frames within 1 chapter. After getting used to Netflix's frame by frame feature for so long, I find this player very basic. And there is no screen setting to play full screen and get rid of the black bars at the top and bottom. I returned it after 3 days.
This is a good product. I didnt encounter any issues with the unit or playing movies.
Set up is pretty much plug and play. I set it with a "4k" home theater Denon sound system and Samsung 4k tv. No issues at all with anything. I tried first the second latest 4k version of Star Trek and it looked and sounded pretty good.
I used netflix and youtube from the unit and the ultrahd shows look amazing mainly the Nature UHD documentaries in Netflix.
I bought this because I wanted to watch 4K movies on my 4K TV. The movie was in letter box format and I was not able to adjust the scree aspect ratio which I have done on many bluray movies. Called Samsung and was told it was because the format the UHD bluray was made (2.40:1) and that no matter what TV I tried it on I would not be able to watch it in full screen mode (black bars top and bottom). The price of these 4K bluray players are not cheap for what you are betting. So if you are good with wtching these on 2/3 rd's of you screen then you will be happy with the detail of the picture, if you are like me I want the quality of 4K but be able to view it on the full screen. Returned it will stay with normal upscaling bluray and see if the technology improves.
From the point of on-line ordering to delivery amazingly fast – hats off to Best Buy and Canada Post !!
Simple to connect to your existing TV and sound system (if you have one)
Easy to set up and simple to use (plug and play – for the most part)
Up-scaling of Blu-Rays is surprisingly impressive.
It is still early days in assessing the player, but at this point I can say that we of course have a 4K TV and since that purchase we have been impressed with the image quality. Therefore, we were excited about the release of a 4K player and subsequent 4K movies - colours are brighter, blacks are indeed richer and there is a bit more ‘depth’ to the picture quality in the 4k releases.
The difference between viewing a Blu-Ray on a regular 1080 TV using a standard player vs. an up-scaled Blu-Ray with this player on a 4K TV is SIGNIFICANT. But, to continue this analogy, the difference between an up-scaled Blu-Ray vs. a 4K Blu-Ray is present, but to our eyes it is at times subtle and certainly not stunning.
We purchased our 4K TV late 2015 and it was not until February of 2016 that I came to learn of 4K TVs that include High Dynamic Range (HDR) – for what I have read from expert reviewers it is the marrying of 4K with HDR that produces that WOW factor when 4K movies are played on this new device. It will be a number of years before we can or will upgrade our TV so the conclusions offered by the experts will remain un-proven to us. However, if you are on the fence about entering into the 4K TV market and hence 4K Blu-Ray players – this may be something for you to consider - do your own research.
Also, we have noticed differences in the picture quality of the 4K movies depending upon the studio in question – so experiment (if you can afford to do so).
We have a mid-range sound base attached to our TV and of greatest significance and positive change that my family and I have noted is the sound in these 4K releases is stunning and immersive! I can only imagine what the sound reproduction would be like if one has a high-end Dolby DTS surround-sound system!
Even with the absence of HDR we are very pleased with the purchase of this Blu-Ray player and you will find that it definitely enhances the capability of your 4K TV. We are far from experts but we are a family that simply enjoy watching movies together and we like to maximize the viewing and listening experience.
overall quality is excellent. hooked to our 4K Samsung 65" TV provides awesome picture and sound
haven't found anything to complain about at this point.
I was hesitant to purchase a Samsung disc player. My first three Blu-ray players were Samsung. The first lasted three years. The second, two years. And the third crapped out in its first year. It got "fixed" under warranty, only to fail again in its second year. Meanwhile, my first gen PS3 is still chugging away reliably after close to 10 years, so I'm partial to Sony products.
But, is seems, for the moment anyways, Samsung has a monopoly on ultra high-def disc players. After coughing up several thousand dollars on a 4K television, I wasn't about to wait for other players to come to market. Sorry Sony. Sorry Panasonic. You're late to the dance. So Samsung it is. However, given my experience with Samsung disc players, I was compelled to purchase the four-year extended warranty from Best Buy. So, I know at least I'll get four years out of this thing.
So, out of the gate, I watched Kingsman: The Secret Service last night, my first UHD experience. I admit. I wasn't wowed. It's not the same as when VHS gave way to DVD. It's not the same was when standard def gave way to hi def. But, the difference is palpable, and a treat to the eye. Right from the opening credits I could see the extra crispness of the picture.
As an early adopter, I accept the high price tag on this item. However, I'm still compelled to only give one star for a value rating. The machine should have at least come with a free movie or two.
I give only three stars for design. The curved front face is gimmicky and unnecessary. And, there is no USB port on the back of the player, only on the front. I'd rather have my extra storage USB stick out of view rather than in plain sight. An unfortunate oversight by Samsung. The player loads discs fast though, which is a welcome change. I see some complaints about the size of the remote. Yes, it's small. But it doesn't feel cheap, and its minimalist design was obviously a thought-out decision that I can understand. For me, though, it's beside the point, since I have everything programmed into my Harmony 650 universal remote.
For picture quality, audio quality, and ease of use, I have no problems giving five stars. For the meat and potato reasons I bought thing thing for, this product delivers as advertised and I look forward to watching more 4K content as it gets released.
We just bought this system, and watched our first set of movies on it, Enders Game in 4k was amazing.
But the goodness does not stop there. When it says it upscale, it truly does, I compared the last witch hunter 4k to the blu ray version, and it was truly difficult to see which one was the standard blu ray or the true 4k version, you truly have to look very hard to see those tiny differences.
Great machine 100 percent recommended
If you want to watch movies at the highest level of quality then this is the product. Seamless installation - easy to navigate. Load time is super fast.
This is pricey but worth the investment.
Go for it and splurge!
And yes, UHD has 4x the resolution as HD:
HD 1920x1080 = 2,073,600 pixels
UHD 3840x2160 = 8, 294, 400 pixels
Movies Look great, and thats a great start, it will only get better since most of the current 4k movies released were filmed with 2k Cameras except for the Sony movies.
FYI it is 4x the resolution since 1080p is a little over 2 million pixels and 4k is 8 million.
blu-ray movies are 1920x1080 the new format is 3840x2160 that is twice the resolution not 4x
if they used the same number format both it would have been a 2k and now a 4k.
but yes the image is way nicer and sharper. yes you would need 4 of the old monitors to make for the same image size but that does not make it 4x only 2x
