The dreaded windows 10 slowed down my computer but this speed demon changed all that. It's fast, so fast that i can never go back to HDD.
The best feature about the product is that you can clone the existing hard drive with the utility shipped with the product.
It saved me days of installation of all my licences software.
The cloning for my data (350GB) took about 2 hours. Then, I removed the old hard disk and replaces it with the SSD.
There is a significant improvement of performance.
It is worth the investment
I strongly recommend
Installed on a MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011. The laptop worked fine with the original Toshiba HHD that came with the MacBook and provided over 6 hours of battery life unplugged. After installing the Samsung 850 EVO 500GB the battery life has dropped to 1 hour unplugged. When I swap back the original Toshiba HHD I get 6 hours of battery use again. Don't buy this Samsung drive for use on a Macbook Pro.
I only installed this SSD on April 1,2016. My first impressions are great. I used Samsung's Data Migration software to clone my 750gb laptop HDD to my new Samsung 850 EVO. The cloning went without a hitch. It only took about 25 minutes to complete the clone as I only had 72GB of data to copy. Once the cloning was complete I shut off my laptop and replaced my HDD for this SSD, I turned on my computer and in just a few seconds I was booted back up into Windows 10.
I tested my boot up speed from the time I pressed the power button till the time I logged in and opened Firefox. On my laptop with the HDD installed the test took 1min 13sec. With my SSD it to 30 Seconds. That's more than half the speed cut in half. The shut down went from 45 seconds to just 14 seconds.
The read and write speeds increased as expected as they went from about 130MBps to 520MBps. I noticed a huge increase in everyday performance as I ran a third party software that brings back the Windows Experience Index to Windows 10. The HDD score went from 5.5 to 8.15 from 1 being the lowest and 9.9 being the highest. Opening applications such as Word opens in like 2 seconds where before it would take about 5 or so seconds. Other applications open faster. I also did a copy test where I copied a folder with 10.7GB worth of various files and sizes. On my HDD it took 5 minutes to copy from my documents to my pictures folder, on the SSD it took 30 seconds. I think this right here show's the huge increase in performance you get with installing a SSD in your computer.
If you want to make you old or even new computer faster upgrade to this SSD. This was my first time ever upgrading anything in a computer let a lone even opening up a computer, but upgrading from a HDD to an SSD was easy. I've seen videos where people had 5-7 year old computers that were very slow go to being reasonably fast and an increase in performance.
All I can say is if you are looking for an increase in performance and overall speed upgrade to an SSD. This SSD is great so far and hope it lasts for a while. I can say SSD's are more expensive than HDD but I think it is worth the price. This is an Excellent SSD. I can't stop using my computer as it now opens up things faster as my computer is only 2 years old and was no slow poke but an SSD made it even faster.
This is a great drive. Very easy to install and really helped to speed up my system. Boot time especially is a lot faster. Still quite expensive when compared to mechanical drives but well worth it.
Easy to install... just a few screws.
Wickedly fast and plenty of room for only $200 (on sale).
Documents just snap open now (even PDF docs with Adobe reader).
Clearly the only bottleneck of my laptop was the harddisk until now.
It makes my laptop feel like a brand new machine again. So happy.
Excellent product and fast. Highly recommend.
Bought this for an older MacBook Pro. it's mega fast. More than twice as fast as the older SSD it replaced. I would imagine that it would be mega-mega fast on a newer machine with SATA III.
Got it working in no time. Installed it separate to my main hard drive for Windows and it worked great! Bought this to play Witcher 3 :)
I purchased my drive on sale and couldn't be more pleased with the results. I upgraded a late 2012 Mac Mini and now my computer runs like a new Mac. I even got TRIM running without a hitch. I highly recommend this SSD. Be prepared to bury the needle on the Disk Speed Tests.
Bought this during Best Buy 2015 Boxing Week sale.
Upgraded my older I7 Windows 8.1 Laptop with it as it had a slow performing 750 GB HD.
What a change of speed and performance.
Almost instant bootup and fast response when launching any programs/apps.
No problems using the free Samsung Data Migration software althought it didn't copy the restore partition, but I was able to make a restore USB stick prior.
Used Samsung Magician to tweak and test performance.
Now I'm ready to upgrade to Windows 10.
Only Con is you need some computer tech skills to migrate the data and operating system and install it in a laptop.
I installed it in a macbook pro model 7.1 and had no compatibility issue. Definately speeds up the computer, although I believe I can't take full advantage of the available speed. I would definately recommend as a great speed booster. Slight improvement on battery life too !
This SSD drive is very fast and quiet. My system is starting up and loading application much faster (also much quieter) than before - as if it is a new computer. Highly recommended over those mechanical drives.
The SSD drive is very fast.
It also comes with a software to transfer data from existing Hard drive to the new hard drive easily, however the cable is not included, has to be purchased separately.
All I can say is... So fast, so quiet. Will never buy a regular hard drive again. Well worth the money.
If you're thinking about upgrading your computer, this hard drive and a fresh install of Windows may be all you need.
this is my first ssd drive, and i'm very surprising with the speed, it's blazing fast. there are no word can describe it. i tested the as ssd benmark , and i can't believe my eyes. it loads the program so fast, and with 16gb ram, there are no slow down. Samsung keep it up your product.
Just got my second Samsung 500 EVO for Christmas I installed it today in my desktop PC with 10 gigs of ram it's blazingly fast and with Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon boots in seconds. Just a reminder this SSD doesn't come with a sata cable or the bracket with screws you have to buy those separately (not expensive) I got the metal one from Kingston with my gift.
After using this SSD in my laptop for months with no issues and the snappy performance I'm enjoying on my desktop PC yeah I'd still recommend it!!
Absolutely terrific drive. Replaced a desktop hdd and amazed by the small size and speed. Windows 10 boots up in 10 seconds now. I had some problems cloning my drive with Acronis True Image, so I switched to the Samsung Data Migration software and it worked like a charm. Be sure to go to the Samsung download page and install version 3.0 (works with Windows 10). Only took 45 minutes to clone my drive using a Sata / USB cable. Extremely happy with this drive and hoping it will be reliable for years to come.
Easy to set up, I used the Samsung software to clone my old drive, worked like a charm. Everything runs faster on my computer since I installed it. It was truly worth it.
I have just installed the Samsung EVO 850 SSD 500gb on an older Acer with an I5 chip and Windows 10. I used the supplied Data Migration software, accepting the offer to upgrade to version 3.0. Other users have had problems with Windows 10 and data migration, but the 3.0 version worked (almost) without a hitch.
The only problem I had was it appeared to be hanging after setting all the file exclusions and initiating the clone. After nearly an hour of apparent inaction, I called the Samsung help line for advice, and almost immediately the cloning sprang to life and completed without a hitch (Samsung magic or what??). I guess I should have been more patient.
The Data Migration software would only let me transfer up to 416GB - although 465GB are available after the clone finished and I rebooted (14 secs!!). It does advise a back up be taken before starting the process (make sure you do it) and it indicated that transferred files would be deleted from the old disk (but this does not appear to be true).
Once I installed the new drive in the Laptop, it rebooted quickly and I haven't found any problems. Anything disk related is now way faster than even the Seagate Hybrid drive I had been using, it is like having a new laptop!
Time will tell if reliability is a problem.
I have used SSD's in the past and have never been disappointed.
This is my first Samsung SSD and I am seriously impressed at the speed.
I cloned my original Windows 10 drive that came with my Dell Inspiron 13 and swapped it out for this one. The boot time alone is enough to impress anyone.
I dont know why companies still insist on using old technology. The original drive made for such a miserable experience that I almost returned my laptop.
This SSD makes everything lightning fast.
Strongly recommend it to anyone.
I purchased a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 520MB/s Internal Solid State Drive (MZ-75E500) yesterday and I am extremely pleased with the unit. I had recently updated my Lenovo U410 laptop from Windows 8.1 to 10, and found that it seemed to slow down a bit despite the fact that the computer has an i7 processor. To improve performance, I decided to give SSD a try. I did some research and selected the Samsung, and decided to go with the cloning of the HDD onto the SSD (rather than doing a complete reinstall of Windows 10 & all my apps).
I was pleased that Samsung included software to do the migration, but was disappointed that the USB cable connector illustrated in the manual was not included in the box. Luckily I have a SATA drive caddy. My next disappointment was to find that the Samsung migration software failed a couple of minutes into the process. Some online searching found that the supplied software doesn’t work with Windows 10, and I couldn’t find a new version on the Samsung website. I did find free software by EaseUS to do the cloning and it worked well, except that it would not allow me to set the drive partitions the way I wanted. Note, before cloning, I had to use Windows Disk Management to set Simple volumes and format them on the SSD. It took about 3 hours for the cloning to complete. I then swapped the Samsung SSD into the laptop and turned it on. It worked perfectly and was amazing how fast the system was up and running (about 15 seconds, as opposed to 45 seconds with the original Western Digital 7500 RPM HDD).
The next step was to fix the drive partitions. Unfortunately the disk management software in Windows 10 only allows merging unallocated space in partitions that are adjacent, so I looked around and found a free version of MiniTool Software. It worked exactly as I’d hoped, allowing me to re-size the partitions just the way I wanted.
Overall, the Samsung 850 EVO 500GB is a great piece of hardware and I have absolutely no buyer’s regret, despite the fact that there are lower priced options available. I was disappointed with the software not being Windows 10 compatible and the cable illustrated in the manual not being included. That did waste a lot of my time. The steps I went through may be a bit beyond the technical comfort zone of some users.
Just migrated from Samsung 840 EVO 250GB to Samsung 850 EVO 500GB. FYI, the disc provided to migrate your data from one drive to another seems to be faulty and freezes during migration. However, you can always download the up-to-date version of the software from the Samsung website by searching Google:
Samsung SSD Downloads
(Always check the manufacturer's website for updates or downloads. DO NOT download software from unknown sources)
You really can't go wrong with this product I have now three of these drives 2x512, 1x256 running 1 in a laptop and 2 in desktops. My i7 Asus machine boots windows 10 to logon screen in 8 seconds from full power-off (Asus as a fast post process) my XP laptop boots very quick and feels like its new again.
Great Product, with good software.
Just installed and cloned any older Hd with this- it was super easy. The only word I can think of is W0W fast. My WEI, windows experience index went from 5.9 to 8.2 for the HD to SSD. Highly recommended.
I installed the Samsung EVO SSD into my mid 2010 MacBook Pro 13 replacing its original drive. I created a OSX boot drive on an 8gb thumb drive and had my previous hard drive backed up with Time Machine. Installing the drive was easy. I watched youtube videos for all of this. I transferred the files from the Time Machine backup using Apple's Migration program. My old drive took 120 seconds to load. The new one takes 22 seconds. It is a quantum leap forward for my old MBP.
I bought this SSD to replace my slow 5400 Toshiba Hard Drive I tried to install Windows 10 on it but it was a disaster installation bombed at the very end it wasn't the drives fault at all the cause was an issue with Windows 10.
On the second attempt I installed Linux Mint 17.2 Rafaela Cinnamon 64 bit this time the install went very smooth computer boots up fast!
If your doing a clean install on this drive all you have to do is make sure that ACHI is enabled in your Computer's BIOS after that installing the OS on the Computer is the same like a typical hard drive pop your DVD in and install.
Absolutely worth it for the performance and speed improvements!
When the 1 TB HDD in my ASUS laptop started acting up this was the logical choice as a replacement. It is so much faster booting up as well as for video editing. I am already planning to add a 1TB SSD in the empty slot when finances permit to speed up the video editing time even more. Knowledgeable sales people in my Chatham store.
Great drive so far, got for my Macbook Pro 2010. Recommend it. Did a lot of research before buying.
A great drive. To get the most of it, make sure you have an AHCI enabled motherboard. I have a older motherboard that doesn't support it, but still, the drive gave a good performance boost to my PC.
I recently bought this item and my computer runs much smoother and quieter. I wanted to buy another one but there are none in stock unfortunately.
