waste of money

Bought this in May 2013. It came with Windows 7, and I cannot upgrade it any further. I even had a computer tech try to upgrade it, without success. It is really slow and when I use a mouse with it, it jumps all over the place. The touch screen doesn't always work either. For the price I paid ( which is WAY more than what it's at now) it's not worth it.

Sluggish, slow and annoying

This tablet is simply [not good]. It freezes, touch screen does not respond for couple seconds, then you press again and you end up flying over your choices. I bought it in March of 2013 and even though it is light and convenient for travel this thing is just useless. Not surewhat causes all the sluggishness - Windows 8 or Samsung but don't waste your money.

What did I do?

This is not what I expected. Windows 8 is 2013 most epic fail n makes these tabs just terrible. Can't even install basic apps like banking apps n gps app and texting apps. So not what I expected. Chrome takes up whole screen n can't even minimize it. I don't like this one bit. Taking it back. Best buy and future shop all stores have like 10 open boxes for sale. Add mine to it

Why is the Canadian version different?

One of the reasons I purchased this tablet was for teaching, and being able to write on the slides. In the rest of the world this tablet supports the digitizer pen, but sadly not here. Other styli work, but the control of the s pen would have been nice. Otherwise, this is a great tablet. The performance is good for running molecular visualization software, and interface to the university podium projectors works well. The battery life is very good and no need for a cooling fan makes it quiet. Overall I would recommend it.

Good tablet, but faulty design for the power plug

I bought this tablet for work. I like it because it runs full version of Windows 8 and I can use my regular desktop softwares. The speed and specifications are good for daily use. Battery life is good. However, compared with iPad, the power plug design is way more primitive. It is very small and finicky. The plug of my tablet has become loose with 24 hours and the tablet is inconsistently charged. Will bring it back for refund tomorrow.

A Few Surprises

Full Disclosure: I'm a Samsung Fan boy. Even with that bias I can only describe my feelings toward this device as "modified rapture" It's got the tight fit and finish that I've come to expect from Samsung. The body shape and colour are very much like my Galaxy S 3 which I love. The display is bright and clear and the viewing angle is quite wide. It looks good! Having said that there were also a few unexpected disappointments: There is no S Pen with this model. I even went into the store to check the display model and confirmed that there was one present but I won't go on about the surprise of opening the box at home and finding no s pen present. If you are looking for the correct digitizer stylus, the part number is AA-DP0NE2B/US according to Samsung Canada Parts and can be purchased separately with next day delivery. I couldn't get confirmation as to which Wacom digitizer pens in the Best Buy store are compatible. I know that the Galaxy Note s pen is not compatible with the X500T according to Samsung I had hoped to run vmware player on this device, but the atom processor does not support VX-T. I'm not entirely surprised that it doesn't, but the hope did lead me towards this device. Steam client installed on the nicely. A simple game like Cogs ran on it, but the graphics were choppy. I would suggest that sticking to the app store games is probably best.

Does the job

I purchased this for my wife who is a casual user. I considered other alternatives, including the 4th gen iPad and the larger Android devices. My wife already has a BlackBerry PlayBook and loves it, but she wanted a device with a larger screen and that could be used as a PC if necessary. The Windows RT based Surface appealed to her, but I was unimpressed with it when I checked it out at the Microsoft store in Yorkdale mall in Toronto. The Surface provides a stripped down version of Windows for roughly the same price as this Samsung full Windows version, it does not support legacy software that isn't sold on the Windows store and it has a lower resolution display and a less capable processor. This product is superior to the Surface in every way. I also purchased the Microsoft keyboard. For the price, this is an excellent ultrabook when docked and a good (albeit large) tablet. It runs all Windows apps, and while the SSD drive at 64 GB is smallish for a PC it is a good size for a tablet. It has a USB port and it is Bluetooth 3.0 enabled. It also has a SIMM card bay for inserting a cellular phone network to it, though I haven't tested that feature. It also has a micro HDMI adapter for connecting to an external (or second) monitor or your HDTV. I loaded Steam on the device and connected an Xbox 360 controller and both worked well, though don't expect to be playing anything hard core or processor intensive on it. The quality and build is good though plasticky in parts. If you are looking for a dedicated tablet, you are likely better off with the Nexus 10 (if it makes it to Canada) or an iPad. If you are looking for an inexpensive notebook, you can likely find less expensive alternatives. If you're looking for a full Windows 8 experience in a touch screen tablet plus the ability to use it as a PC in a pinch, this is a solid compromise.

Pretty good tablet. If the keyboard was available for this model as an accessory, it would have got all 5 stars. Hopefully it'll be an option soon. Pretty smooth but when doing windows updates, it can take some time.

Great Device. . .end of story

The combination of Samsung and Windows 8 makes for a great device. This is not my primary device but I use it at work all the time and when travelling. One reviewer writes, "No stylus, can't find keyboard anywhere, then battery drains from full to empty on standby overnight". Don't listen to this person. I've had it for 3 weeks and didn't think that I needed a stylus once. If you are doing sketching, then yes you might need a stylus but that comes down to what you use it for. The keyboard either automatically pops up when you expect, or, the keyboard icon is always easy to find in the bottom right. The battery life is amazing. Mine has never drained and it charges quickly. I would recommend this device to anyone. . . .even apple fanboys.

Good tablet

The tablet is great since it is full Windows not RT so it can run any apps. Battery life is good and screen while not HD is pretty good. Wished it came with Office like RT did and 11.6 is a bit on the large size but it is not too heavy. Didn't know about the pen until I read these reviews but you can buy any iPad pen and it works fine. Best buy should have the dock available but I guess any Bluetooth keyboard should work. One other thing that would have been nice is if it had some kind of basic protective case.

Great tablet

Great tablet for light use - internet, emails, word/excel docs. I bought this to carry around in meeting and do some actual work when I have time and I just love how everything is automatically sync. New interface is very user friendly and super easy to understand...after a couple minutes I already knew exactly where to go and what to do to get things done!

no pen

The tablet with win 8 is great, but this one does not have a pen and doesn't even work with wacom pen. The american version has the pen capability and sells for cheaper. Desktop environment is too hard to use without a pen (everythng is too small for your finger)

500T Nice but No Pen or Keyboard here...

After watching reviews of the tablet, I was surprised to find out the version being sold here does not include the S-Pen or even a digitizer to use other pens. Also no keyboard dock. Just keep that in mind, still a nice device so far, maybe a bit on the large size when used as a tablet.
