Great Blu-ray player

This player works great, image and functionality are excellent. It doesn't have a power-on indicator but I got over that once I realized that with HDMI CEC cable connected it turns off when I turn off my Samsung TV. It will also turn off when the BD power button is pressed or when idle for a period of time. The TV remote controls the BD player (and visa versa) through the HDMI cable after a little setup of CEC (called Anynet+ by Samsung) and even lets you access BD settings. It would be nice to have a universal remote for other TV's but I think other HDMI CEC compliant TV's would work as stated above.

Looks great so far. Notes on TV remote and power indicator.

I'm happy with this player, the image is awesome and the devices response is quick, even with my Samsung TV remote once the TV was set up correctly. Notes on TV remote and power indicator (if connected by HDMI cable): At first I could not get my TV remote to control this Blu-ray player until I discovered that it is not plug'n'play and it is not like traditional Universal remote controls. Even though both are from Samsung you must go into the Menu and access System|Anynet+ and turn on Anynet+, then do a device search. It will find your Blu-ray player after a few seconds. Then you will be able to control the player with the TV remote including it's menus, settings etc; pretty cool. Power indictor: When you turn off the TV, the Blu-ray player will turn off automatically; no worries that it will be on forever even if you don't turn it off by a remote. I think it will also turn off after 15 minutes if idle. No displays or lights to consume electricity. Also, if you turn on the Blu-ray player, it will turn on the TV and select the appropriate source (input) for you.

Works like a charm...

Connects to the WIFI with ease, plays discs with no problem and Netflix comes through better than on my old bluray. Very pleased with my purchase.

Great Media Player

Bought this to stream media from my NAS to some older TV's, and so far it works like a charmed. Wired connection probably helps. So far I'm happy.

Not Reliable

It started off as a great product but now it doesn't connect to the internet or properly play blurays. not worth it.

Look for something else

Initial setup went well, no problems. However within a week the player loses internet connectivity and no service personnel troubleshooting to date has been able to fix the problem. Common problem if you search the net for reviews. Don't buy it, look for another product.

Disappointment indeed

I have now had two identical models of the Blu-ray disc player BD-J5700 and am frustrated with the difficulty to get the thing to power up. Both manual power button and remote power button fail to make this unit turn on. On the rare occasion it does turn on, usually after changing power outlet, it works well enough. It just is completely unreliable to actually turn on in the first place.

Netflix App

Do not purchase this Player, The support team is disappointing. After 2 chats & phone call, there is no resolution. I updated their software last evening, what a mistake. Netflix will not load even though Internet connection is working. A very frustrating product

does what I bought it for

Bought it because my old blueray stopped connecting to internet and would not update, so it stopped playing bluerays.. the wifi works it plays bluerays and dvd's. am satisfied with it.

Lacking egonomics, poor WiFi. atrocious manual

Starting with the manual, it was difficult to read and very little in the way of details. Description of the remote's operation is limited to labeling of remote buttons, some not at all, hazy description of button function. I still have no idea what 1/2 the buttons are for. The WiFi keeps dropping out. Typically within an hour's viewing 2 to 3 times! My other WiFi appliances work just fine. Ergonomics in a word, bad. Sure entering letters of a password (for example) on a remote is difficult but at least make keyboard operation consistent for all apps. And the buttons on the remote are difficult to use. Imoportant ones that abort some operation are tiny and interlaced with commonly used buttons. In particular miss an arrow button and hit the return by mistake and get to start all over typing a password. Also there's no obvious intuitive layout with, for example, bigger buttons for commonly used buttons. Finally, perhaps a minor point but the remote includes TV controls. Al fair number of them seem to for TV operation However the manual doesn't include codes for various TV brands nor even how codes are to be entered. Perhaps only Samsung TVs are meant to work with this remote. Dunno. No explanation can be found in the manual.

like it alot

i purchased this to replace a wifi lg that had issues. when i hooked it up it could not connect to my network: saw it but couldn't connect. after a couple of calls to samsung i was told i had to change my router from wep to wps 2 [i think thats right] a call to my router vendor for assistance in doing that and all was well/ i do not have an issue w the on/off light missing; i just make sure i turn the dvd off before the tv it has OPERA app umbrella which offers all sorts of other things to watch or follow. i have had no issues with this unit once the wifi connect requirement was discovered/

Good enough...

The machine (contrary to the image as of 23-June-15) has a curved front which slopes away from the user. Personally, I don't like the curve (form not related to function) but that's just taste. On the other hand, the sloped face makes it harder to view the few controls and harder to access the USB port cover. There is no power indicator. I hope they passed on the 5 cent savings to us. But I'd rather have the indicator. Annoying. The wifi connectivity seems to be a little stronger than some. A Roku Stick and LG350 would not allow me to stream but the Samsung does. (Its does connect as strongly as my laptop and phone)
