Two Broken units

I purchased two of these units only to have them both malfunction within weeks, now less than a year later they are both completely broken, will not even turn on. Would not recommend wasting your money,

Invest abit more....

Garbage .... First day I set it up, took at least 15 mins before I could even get into Netflix. Constantly dropping signal for wifi, very slow in response, even with the remote trying to pause/play that kinda thing. Machine was noisy while in use for dvd/blueray. Just took it back, after trying to give it a chance for just over a week. Bought a Philips, lets hope thats better luck.

WiFi does not work well

I bought this player in January and had it for about 3 days before I returned it and bought the Sony one instead (which is more money, but definitely worth it). It worked the first day, but after that it was unable to connect to the internet again for more that 5 mins and would not turn on when I tried it on the third day. Possibly problems that could have been fixed if I had sent it for repair...but I didn't want to waste time with that. DVD player works well though.

Good product, Netflix does not work

Good player for the price but Netflix constantly freeze. I can't see more then 30m of a movie before CRASH! the image is frozen and I have to physicaly unplug the player, wait 5 sec an replug...

very good product. no problems at all. very hesitant to buy after reading bad comments but it works great. anyone having troubles just boost wifi with better router for stronger signal.

Excellent blueray

We got this blueray player as an extra for our bedroom. Was a little hesitant to get this model (5400) after reading most of the online reviews, but i wanted a samsung to match our samsung tv and this one was priced right. It was easy to install. However it would not work on my samsung tv and after an hour of frustration i discovered it was my cheap hdmi cord. I swapped out the cord and it worked fine! It connected quickly and easily to my wifi. Most reviews gave the wifi thumbs down for streaming netflixs and youtube, stating the blueray locks up and freezes after a few minutes of watching. We have the blueray upstairs and the wifi router is downstairs on the opposite end of the house and it streams netflix/youtube flawlessly! Was very impressed! The only thing i dont like is the power indicator light is on the top of the player and cannot be seen unless standing over top of it. So you dont know initially if its on or off! In my opinion you cant go wrong for the price of this model!

Extremely slow, freezes. Awful product.

I can see why there were a bunch of discounted open boxed units at the store. Should have taken that as a sign. Netflix is painfully slow to load, remote takes 10+ seconds to respond if at all, picture quality is marginal at best and it freezes constantly. If you like beating your head against the wall due to needless frustration, then I highly recommend this for you.

quit working

will no longer connect to the internet, only a few months old, going to take it back and get something more reliable, I would not purchase this product if I were you.

I going to return this today. Remote is slow to respond, Netflix freezes everytime and so hard to do fast forward, rewind, and it takes forever to turn off the machine. You have to enter details of your wifi each time you turn it on. If Samsung wants to sell something cheap, at least make it usable. Sheesh!

Doesn't remember Network

In addition to the painfully slow remote which can't pause, rewind or fast forward anything from DNLA server. The player doesn't remember network setting and must be re-entered every time it's powered off.

Purchased a couple of months ago, for the purpose of using Netflix. Nutshell - doesn't work - max viewing length, about a hour, before freezing up completely. Blue-ray and CD functions fine.

Samsung 5400

Bought this to replace non-wi-fi unit to connect with Netflix... wi-fi refused to connect after many hours of trying and speaking to Bell, the machine was not compatible with our Bell modem. Too bad this wouldn't connect because our household is full of Samsung items including TV's large computer monitors etc which are excellent and had no issue with. Replaced with Sony wi-fi machine which works great. Low rating is that it wouldn't do the most important thing I bought it to do and why I replaced my current machine.

Not bad for starter

If you don't have cables or satellite reception, this is just right. Easy to setup with Netflix, it's just like you're watching cable tv but online. The only complaint is the reaction with netflix and the remote control can sometimes be slow as indicated by many other reviewers. other than that, I really enjoyed this player.

I only use Netflix and CinemaNow with this player mostly, and its fabulous. Just as if I am watching tv or a dvd. Only problem I have is with CinemaNow - saying I don't have an hd player so it only lets me rent reg movies...but its very neat how I can rent movies from the hub

Wifi Issues

Don't bother with this unit unless your wifi router is in the same room. It constantly lags streaming anything through wifi (while other wifi devices in the house are fine). Also experienced issues with this unit completely freezing. You literally have to unplug it and plug it back in. Bringing back to replace with a different model.

Disappointed--had to return.

I had to return this Blu Ray. The menu responds very slowly when I press a button. During playback on Netflix, it will randomly freeze or get stuck loading. I even tried letting it load for a half hour (ridiculous to even have to do that) before watching an hour episode and I still couldn't get through the episode. My internet connection works awesome on every other device I have so I know it's a problem with the player, not my connection. Disappointing and inconvenient to have to return.

Everything works good

Everything has worked great on this bluray player, I just bought it today, had no problems setting up the WIFI and I even managed to switch the DNS server number to get access to US Netflix but after quitting Netflix it fails to obtain a connection so I just left it set up to Canada. Netflix runs pretty slowly as does the reaction time from the controller to the unit, I went from a PS3 to this and my PS3 was pretty fast so I'll need to get used to it. Another plus though, the remote comes with a power/volume up/down and video source buttons on it that will work on a samsung TV. I watched Inglorious Basterds Bluray copy on it and the picture is great with my plasma. I would have given it 5/5 had it not be for the slowness of Netflix.

Great Player, small and compact

This player was easy to set up, is small and compact but yet has the same capabilities as a normal player. Connects to everything on my network that contains music, movies and pictures all on its own. Great unit for the price.

Piece of junk

As a blu ray player it was ok (except after two days when the eject button stopped working and the slot wouldn't open). Didn't upscale all DVDs well and caused them to skip or pause play. Wifi was really slow. Netflix took forever to load movies. I have a Wii and it is a lot faster for Netflix, so I know it's not my wifi. Do not buy this player. Total piece of junk that I returned to Best Buy, which they accepted back no hassles! I plan on buying and trying Sony wifi model once they're in stock.

Connection Problems

Unit kept wanting to instal software update. When update done, unit refused to reconnect to network, Unit refused to reset or return to default setting. Lack of on-unit controls or indicator lights frustration. Unit also made a rattle noise playing DVD. Returning it to the store, asap.

Not that great

If you are planning on using the youtube feature on this bluray, think again. It is a piece of garbage. you cannot get through even 2 minutes of video before the streaming stops. even with the internet connection showing excellent the player cannot download fast enough to play video on youtube

I purchased 2 of these units today while I was wandering around. Please don't waste your money. Both of these units are going back tomorrow. Both players power up fine and once the wifi is setup, they start rebooting constantly. I read another review stating a compatibility issue with WHS Windows Home Server and DLNA clients. I shutdown my WHS and same weird self rebooting still happens. There is no way to clear network settings. No lights or front panel to give you any clue that the player is turned on.

Disappointed in lack of connections. Only HDMI and USB. Limits choices, as my TV only has one HDMI input. Inputting text on screen is a pain. I have been unable to access Allshare yet but will persevere. Hope there are no more negatives!

Disappointed with Allshare and technical support

I purchased this Blu-ray player during sale pricing and but experienced consistent reboots when trying to use the it on my wireless network. The reboots occurred when the player detected Windows Home Server on my network. The WHS shares media to all the other devices in my house - computer, Xbox, cell phones and other handheld devices using DLNA-compliant Twonky software. Instead of ignoring the device, Samsung's implementation of DLNA (Allshare) on the player is not compatible and causes it to reboot continuously. Samsung support first told me the product was defective and to take it back but the second unit had the same problem. I found both calls to Samsung technical support to be frustrating and their agents did not offer any solutions or seem interested in having the problem corrected. I am disappointed that I am not able to use this feature of the device as it was a selling point. I am however able to use the device on a separate guest network in my household which allows me to use the Internet connected services.
