Update - Fixed - Problems with network fixed.

It's early days, Telus has fixed the network problems. The problem with outgoing calls being disconnected and being charged 2 min. have been fixed. On outgoing calls I can let it ring as long as I want, it doesn't automatically disconnect. Now giving it a 5 star rating. Jackorama

New Development in problem with Telus network.

I will keep updating until this problem is fixed. New update. If you let your phone ring the 10 times it doesn't disconnect after the ringing stops and you are charged 2 min. of time even if you use 10 seconds or less to hang-up. If the person picks up the phone 20 sec. after the ringing has stopped on their end (10 rings), you are connected like they had picked up the call after a couple of rings. So, for now make sure you hang up and unanswered call before 10 rings. Irritating, isn't it. Until next time. Jackorama

Update to my 1st review.

After having to involve a columnist at a newspaper to get the higher-ups involved, Telus has recreated the problem of 7 outgoing rings before automatically hanging-up. This is a problem with the network for the prepaid SIM card that comes with the phone. Apparently, I am the first to bring this to the attention of Telus. Everyone with a prepaid Telus account that uses a SIM card is effected. Those with a prepaid Telus account that doesn't use a SIM card (older phone) is not effected. Telus has said this could take a couple of weeks to a couple of years to fix due to other companies involved besides Telus. Today I have tested my phone and it has gone up to 10 outgoing rings before automatically hanging-up. It's an improvement, but I should be able to let outgoing calls ring until I decide to hang-up. Once this problem is fixed, I would give the phone with Telus service 5 stars.

slow...

no befit but the price. freezes often while talking (display becomes dark, so i can't even hung up), doesn't ring even in a pretty good service area and get a caller strait to the voicemail, takes a minute for an app to start, needs to reboot at least once a week as it freezes, etc.

Great phone, fast delivery

Called in to Telus to have them unlock it, and there were no issues, in fact it was free!

Only one problem with it.

I'm a first time smartphone user. Would have given it a 5, but for one problem. If you are trying to call someone who doesn't have a answering machine or answering service, your phone will automatically hang up the call after a short 7 rings. This is way too short for us older people who are trying to call even older people, who don't have answering machines and take longer to get to the phone. Will give a 5 if Samsung fixes this problem. As for everything else, this phone is great. I can do everything on it as I do on my computer. Banking, emailing, browsing internet, videos, movies, music, games, etc. It's a mini computer. I think it's great that I can use wifi as well as mobile data. I would recommend for the first time smartphone user, but if the 7 ring cut off on out bound calls concerns you, pass on this phone.

Great entry-level smartphone

I've had this phone for more than 8 months now, and am still pleased with it. I had been resisting getting a smartphone, but when my previous contract ran out and I was looking for a prepaid, this phone seemed like the most economical choice. My husband and I each got one, and both have performed very similarly. We've had a couple issues with the batteries - every so often it will run down to zip in one day, but in the 8+ months that I've had it, it's only done that two or three times. My husband had an episode lasting about a week where it wouldn't hold a charge, about six months after purchase, but we got through it, and it's now fine again. I enjoy the Android operating system (especially being an Apple-phobe) and while it's too bad that it'll never be able to upgrade to the latest version of it, I haven't yet run into any problems with compatibility of apps that I want. I basically just wanted a phone for emergencies with the ability to hook up to wifi for google searches or map look-ups, this phone has more than exceeded my expectations. It's small, not too heavy, and doesn't feel like you're holding a deck of cards to your head. Another really fantastic feature is the google calendar - it has saved my rear more than once with alerts of upcoming responsibilities. I always used to buy those little paper organizers, swearing I'd use it for appointments and such, then get bored with it and have to resort to digging through a post-it pile for when I was supposed to be where. I love being able to schedule things right from my phone, and that I can see at a glance what my husband's schedule is as well. If, however, you're used to a tablet or a phone with all the bells and whistles, and want to be able to play graphics-heavy games and such, not only will you be frustrated by it's screen size, but it's also a little slow for that sort of thing. One more thing - I have yet to find a case that would fit this phone. It's probably my biggest complaint. My husband dropped his and the screen cracked a couple months after we bought them. While it still functions perfectly well, it's aesthetically not as pleasing. Mine lasted a lot longer, but did eventually receive a knock that has caused a small pit in my screen. A case would, I assume, have helped absorb any impact shocks.

Great basic smart phone

I had a basic LG Flip Phone that I used primarily for outgoing calls. It is a pay as you go unit that saw limited use, yet served me well when I traveled. The WiFI capability of the Samsung Galaxy Discover allows me to access my email accounts while traveling and the touch screen makes it much easier to send and receive text messages if I choose to communicate that way. This is a basic smart phone, and for my needs fit the bill. So, if you are looking for an inexpensive phone without all of the do dads of the big boys this phone is highly recommended.

Best phone deal around

Bought one on sale for travel as mp3 / movie player with 32g micro card with another carrier. Works fantastic! NO BATTERY PROBLEMS IF YOU DRAIN IT COMPLETELY before recharging at least in the beguining. Watched movies in the airport, music on the plane and looked up stuff on the net while transiting. Am still using it to download and play tons of uTube vids and mp3. Liked it so much I bought a second one as spare unit to my more expensive cell phone for when I go ruffing it out. Great value for money specially when on sale, highly recommend it.

Basic Phone WiFi Connection Issue

Bought the phone two months ago when it was on sale, battery drain issue at the beginning, had big improvement after I let the battery dead then fully recharged it, done that 3 times and then the battery can last 1-2 days. WiFi always dropped connection and I had to turn it off and then turned it on. I returned it after 10 days because of this problem [...].

Great deal at that price

Couldn't beat the deal for the price, I purchased it to unlock mainly for travel in the parts of the world where you can just buy a sim card for a couple of weeks, unlike the backwards North American cell phone companies. The [extra] Telus air time was a slight bonus, even though I had no idea at time of purchase.

Low Battery

The phone is fine, but the battery is terrible. I just bought one the other day and the battery only lasts 4-5 hours while on standby. I was a little disappointed to find that it doesn't even last a full work day.

Too bad battery

Bought one at the end of last year, Battery last 7 hours with 4 grids signal. Too bad. Actually I do not think it is the battery, because sometimes it can last 1 or two days. However, suddenly it only last 7 hours and turned off the phone.

Love it

Happy with this phone as a replacement to my low space phone. Fast with ics android and a great companion with my downloaded apps. i can watch tv episodes, etc. I only wish it has a dual cam and a side button for the camera cause it's hard to take your picture :). Battery is ok lasts for hours to a day using the downloaded apps cleaner to free some memory and turning off vibrate and some system sounds like dial pad touch tones and touch sounds, location services, live wallpapers.

Great phone, especially compared to LG Optimus L3

Bought the LG first at Best Buy for about the same price, and it's a much poorer phone: slower, older operating system, much less memory, screen just a little too small and with poor resolution. I traded that in for the Galaxy Discover and am very pleased - really a much better product. After seeing other reviews I worried a little about the battery life, but I haven't had any problems over several days of heavy use.

Very nice phone, and so cheap

No issues with Battery-life. Does all it promises and more. Works like a charm and have not found any issues. Love it and would recommend it. Shame it will never get Jelly-Bean, but hey, for that money it is also very good as mini-tablet. Lacking some functionality (Task manager etc), but still complete.

Good phone, battery needs improvement

Works good on 3G network, apps working fast, touch screen responsive, good MP3 player. WiFi sometimes drops connection, battery lasts maximum 8-10 hours with WiFi turned off and no calls made. Is it bad battery or phone issue? Overall good phone for moderate usage.

Great phone, [bad] battery

The phone works well and has all the features anyone could want. The battery life, however, is the worst of any phone I've ever owned. I need to charge it daily. I do keep blue tooth and wi-fi functional and I realize this shortens its life, but still, one should be able to expect more than 24 hours of life from a charge.

very dissapointed

Purchased this phone and had to exchange 2 weeks later because battery only lasted a couple hours. My new phone's battery life is even worse. My battery lasts 2 - 3 hours while using no data, thats on standby with 1 or 2 text messages. If I call or use other features the battery only lasts 1/2 an hour. The only way this phone can opperate is if I were to have it plugged in all day. Since that is of no desire I will try to get Samsung to refund my money. If they don't, the phone is going in the garbage.

Very Poor Battery

I purchased this phone 2 1/2 weeks ago from Best Buy in Surrey store #961. Unfortunately the battery (on standby with wifi turned off, data turned off, display brightness set to minimum, and apps disabled) only lasts 3 to 5 hours. Of course, if I use the phone the battery life is far less. This extremely short battery life makes the phone completely useless. The phone itself is a great little phone and if the battery lasted it would be great, but in my opinion having to recharge a battery 4 to 6 times a day is ridiculous. I do not know if this is just my phone or a problem with this phone, but I would suggest waiting for more reviews and research.
