I really like the screen contrast and clarity. It's better than a lot of more expensive TVs I looked at. The user interface is excellent and responsive. Setting up peripherals was a snap. I set up a Plex server for videos/music/photos and it works great.
The only trouble I've had is that sometimes the TV stops responding to the remote. I haven't been able to determine whether it's a problem with the TV, remote, or just a battery issue.
There are free streaming channels available via Roku but I find most of them don't work - the connections aren't maintained. But for Netflix and Plex, I can't be happier.
The USB is functional but it only seems to support photos. I was hoping to plug a USB drive full of videos into it and play them, but unfortunately that's not how it works.
I settled on this TV due to pricepoint, and was not disappointed with it. Picture and sound were pretty good. ROKU is also interesting, but besides major apps, the ones users create are pretty basic.
What really disappointed me was that the LED part that I needed to get replaced to fix the TV wasn't available anywhere. About 9 months in I was replacing a digital cable TV box, because the Cable IN is flush to the TV and there isn't a lot of wiggle room, I tilted the tV in a way that caused a minor crack (not visible to me) but all kinds of coloured lines occured.
I called Sharp but they were 100% no help saying since it was bought as Best Buy only they could help. About a week later, someone from Geek Squad came... pictures were taken of the TV, the guy pointed out the crack and said it likely wouldn't be covered but couldn't say for sure.
After having to call back myself, I found out it was not covered which I understood but the part wasn't available from any of Best Buys' suppliers... so now I have no choice but to effectively get a new TV.
I've had this TV for about a month now. It was an Easter weekend featured flyer sale item. I'd read good reviews about SHARP televisions including this one.
The picture quality and sound are excellent, and it's easy to lift as it weighs next to nothing. The set-up was really easy. There's a plethora of channels and apps that you can install. You can also cast from your mobile device and tablet using a Chromecast-compatible app like YouTube.
All of the configuration of this Roku TV takes place via the Roku user interface using the included Roku remote. This might not be intuitive for folks who are accustomed to a traditional TV and remote. For example, if your source is an antennae and your using the internal tuner, you can't jump directly to a channel by typing its number. The remote doesn't have them. Instead you open an on-screen list of channels and choose it. Most users though will have some external source connected by HDMI with its own remote.
It should be noted that SHARP has recently exited the consumer electronics market in North America. The Roku TV is apparently a co-branded exclusive product in North America, and they will continue to sell TVs under the SHARP brand. At least that's what I read on a blog some place so keep that in mind.
That said I like it so much I've thought about buying a second one.
be careful you might have issues using multi profiles for Netflix and Netflix Kids
presently only Roku version 3 supports this
Clear, good sound, quick, easy to navigate
For those wanting to use the USB port you need to download the app from ROKU. Then it will work just fine.
Good TV and takes a little getting used to from your conventional tv. Picture quality is decent for the money and it's a great TV for the kids play room.
I've had this TV for a few weeks and really like the Roku features it includes. It's able to smoothly stream from Kodi over WiFi. I also like that I can open a stream on YouTube on my Android device and then transfer it over to the TV, where the TV's YouTube app will start playing. The TV's YouTube app is limited to searching, so this makes it easy to play a YouTube URL link from a web site.
As for normal TV functions, the picture looks great to me. The built in speakers are adequate if you really need to use them. As with most TVs these days they face the back so the TV will be louder in the room behind it. Digital audio out to a receiver is the way to go.
Cost-effective and have everything it said in the specs.
The Sharp was a very easy set up, not one glitch, picture looks awesome.
the tv works well, good picture, but for whatever reason, sharp disabled the usb port and it does not function from the factory, stupid.
Great product at this price
Not a bad tv for ocasional use bedroom set. I run Netflix on it, so... it does the job.... BTW: star indicator on this review does not work, so take my word for it - it is a 4 star product. :) :) :)
Easy set up, Good Picture, Netflix works easily without any issues. Very happy with it.
First new TV in 20 years.
It was a very easy transition.
Everything sets up automatically and seamlessly.
Very nice addition to my house.
Now to get more time to enjoy it all!
can anybody how to connect this tv with laptop through wifi
Sharp and TV? Who in his right mind would purchase it? Err. Even at a good price? Really? Traps, all Traps. These were some of the thoughts floating right through our collective minds as we went through heaps of reviews of several TV's when the time came to purchase one. Also the Great Debate. Smart Vs Regular.
Except for the first five hours I thank my stars that I made the right choice. The first TV was a disaster. Once installed, it gave a washed out image. The Sharp technician on the phone spent an hour diagnosing the problem and immediately asked us to go back and get a replacement. Oh Yes? On Black Friday? But Best Buy had one more and we walked out of the store an hour after it closed down with a new Set.
It works, the picture quality is wonderful, the sound is better than a Samsung and the Smart TV offers us various free options to roam around You Tube, Face Book, Food channels, Music Channels Movies and about two hundred other options.
I am now a firm believer in Sharp.
Great price for a crisp 1080p 43 incher. Put it in the man cave primarily for console gaming and NHL hockey.
For the price you can not go wrong and the remote is perfect, who uses a remote to change channels unless you do not have a digital box... what is this 1992?
The Roku is the fastest built in smart TV OS i have experience. For the size it work perfectly for me.
The television has a very competitive price. The picture is excellent, and even though the remote is basic, it works very well. Personally, Roku was not the selling point for me with this set. The Roku service is well integrated, runs smoothly and fairly quickly and will run 5G WiFi. This is were it stops because content is king. Roku may have been ahead of the game at one time but a majority of their apps are useless and quick frankly the product needs to mature. The extra buttons on the remote should have been user selected instead of possibly being sold to the highest bidder. The Netflix app layout is in need of a serious update and Shomi and CraveTV apps must be rolled out quickly for this service to have any type of credibility going forward (these apps are missing at this time with no estimated time of arrival). A bright spot is the NHL all which is very good (I have used many different streaming systems with NHL apps). The conclusion is this: Good choice if you are buying the tv for the tv and Bad choice if you are purchasing it to use Roku. I have my Apple TV hooked up to the unity because it blows away any other provider (again, content is king in the streaming world and Apple has many tv rights that others cannot get)
I have always been a fan of Sharp TVs. I have had my 32 inch Sharp for at least 8 years and it still works like new. It will be going to a good home as a basement TV. My new Roku is amazing. Wonderful picture easy to set up and use. I am very pleased and will continue to be a fan of Sharp. This smart SHARP has brought me into the age of current technology.
I initially purchased this combined Sharp Roku TV product, but then exchanged it for 2 separate units. My reasons for doing this are as follows:
- There is no separate Sharp TV tuner, only an 8-button Roku control unit
- The built-in Roku media player is a "Roku 2" model, not a "Roku 3" player
- The differences between the two Roku models are worth considering.
- Terrible sound (tinny) from the TV’s 2 x 8W speakers. Don't let the Dolby "audio enhancement" fool you; the sound is really awful
- 43" screen
- Great picture quality
If it's a Roku TV system you're after in this price range, then buy the Toshiba 40" TV and a separate Roku 3 media player. In doing this, you'll save yourself money and get more features for the price. More importantly, you'll get far superior sound and the ability to move the Roku 3 media player to another TV, now or in the future.
In summary, why buy one when you can get 2 (with more features) at a lesser price?
This TV is good as advertised and the price is great. So far all is working as it should.
I first bought a Sharp LCD tv in Feb. 2009. I use it daily and I am very pleased with the picture. then I bought this Sharp 43" LCD for my bedroom. The picture is outstanding and the setup was very easy, I would recommend this product to anyone. the price of the new tv was approximately a third of the original tv.
I'm happy with the hardware. The TV itself is qutie good. easy functionality, good colours/contrast/picture and all that.
on the downside... ROKU tv is a total bust and complete letdown otherwise would be 5 stars...
Liking the tv - it's easy, the picture is pretty good - user friendly... so far so good
disappointed it does not have a browser
Bought this TV at Best Buy- Etobicoke on Friday evening. Brought it home, set it up and plugged it in. The picture looked odd when we first turned the TV on, but we thought it was some sort of screen test / setup. Within minutes, the TV started smoking and started to melt. Had to return it for another model.
Great smart TV for a great price. Everything works great out of the box.
The only minor gripe is the stand is too short from what I'm used tootoo, but I'll wall mount eventually, so it's a non issue.
I bought this TV for my bedroom and could not be happier. It is an all around perfect choice for value and entertainment.
Very easy set up...Wonderful picture!
There is no qwerty keyboard or Bluetooth connection for one...but be sure to download the Roku APP. I LOVE being able to use my iPhone/iPad as a remote...especially for the keyboard included on the bottom right.
This is a great additional TV for your home!
I give it FIVE STARS but am unable....I can only click four (?).
So far so good , nice tv and easy apps media
perfect better than sony
Very good tv as far as connectivity and picture. Worked like a charm since day 1
Just love it - no more hooking things up - just instant streaming.
